PC out of Control
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 07:37 PM) I actually think it somewhat problematic. Not every kid has a father who is a part of their life, I dont really see the need for schools to exacerbate this issue. When I was a kid there werent mommy/son dances, I dont believe that there even were father/daughter dances either. So this "outrage" against PC culture, seems a few decades to late. If youre school wants to have one, whatever. If they dont want to have one, whatever. Not sure this should register on the President of the United States radar, seems like there are 100 trillion more important things that he should be spending his time on. And there is nothing stopping the fathers from renting out a local establishment and having their own dance. http://www.silive.com/news/2018/02/post_1947.html And that article explains what the school was actually doing. They were postponing it to make it more inclusive. If you strip out the sensational Hannity/Rush style headline, its not even that big of a deal. It was never cancelled. (edit) Greg, Instead of listening to talk shows. Try and read for yourself. Please don't turn this into a blast Greg issue. It's all over Twitter and the websites of news organizations. I'm not making this one up. People are outraged. And from what I read in other stories the dance was to be canceled before the outrage. Whatever the specifics this is a big deal. I'm not finding some obscure story. Do a twitter search on daddy-daughter dances.

PC out of Control
So the always-popular Father-Daughter dances for dads and their daughters are in danger of extinction. A NYC school in Staten Island has called off Friday's dance because of new gender guidelines. Trump, Jr., has freaked out and ripped PC culture for wrecking such a beautiful event. I bet Donald is getting his Twitter ready for this issue. I mean cmon. Anybody who has been to a Father-Daughter dance realizes this is special and there's nothing wrong with it. In the Yahoo article ... "Activities that divide children based on sex or gender are problematic, especially given new research published Monday in the journal Pediatrics, which found that more children are identifying as transgender or gender nonconforming. “Gender-based activities are rooted in old-fashioned gender stereotypes,” Lenora Lapidus, director of the ACLU Women’s Rights Project, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “For example, father-daughter dances exclude children raised by single moms, lesbian couples, a grandmother, or who otherwise don’t have male figures in their lives.” Under Title IX, a federal law that prevents discrimination in an educational program based on a person’s sex, father-daughter dances are permitted, as long as there is also a dance for mothers and sons. “But it’s very difficult for schools to prove why they need to separate boys and girls in the first place,” says Lapidus. “You’ll also see schools that throw father-daughter dances and mother-son baseball games, which enforce stereotypes that girls like to dress up in frilly dresses and boys like sports.” Adds Lapidus: “These father-daughter dances are a throwback to the 1950s nuclear family, and don’t at all address the realities of diverse families.” Addendum: As I write this it looks as if backlash from Trump may be allowing the dance to be rescheduled for March. What is your take? Kill these dances or let them exist? Remember if you have them, somebody may be offended.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 11:28 PM) Only for the counting stats that people aren't putting as much significance on anymore. Should be interesting to see if the voters completely change their criteria in coming years/decades. Because it seems like WAR is the big thing now. However, good luck getting the voters to toss out the normal stats of the past.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 09:13 PM) It's not that people/teams think players suck after they're 29. It's just that no one wants to pay for their mid/upper-30s years. Do you agree with me that because of this, careers are going to be shorter in the future and good luck compiling Hall of Fame numbers if you are a ballplayer? QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 09:39 PM) Because Mike Moustakas isn't getting the 5 year contract he's been seeking, that means all players are done at 29? Come on. Abreu is 31 and still doing very well. In fact he proves you wrong pretty directly. It's just the reality that in a couple years at 33, history says most players begin to fade by then. Some do, some don't. There are plenty of 33-year-olds still playing though, and much older. Why am I doing this to myself? Do you at least agree with my premise that it's going to be VERY HARD or at least much harder for players to put up Hall of Fame numbers in the future with a changing mindset regarding age?

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 08:59 PM) This site is way more enjoyable if you put this poster on ignore. If he's not a troll, then he's the Soxtalk version of a WSCR caller during Mike North hosted programs. I'm not sure which is worse between a deliberate instigator or a natural idiot, but the "ignore" option keeps me from having to deal with either option. I don't know how you could call a fellow South Sider an idiot but to each his own. I'm just a Sox fan wanting to win.

Bear with me please. Jake Burger is 21 not projected to be a big leaguer til he's 24. The new line of thought is you are washed up after your age 29 season. So Burger has five seasons to do something in baseball. Interesting. The way this is going nowadays, not many ballplayers are ever going to compile Hall of Fame-ish numbers. Players aren't going to be getting started til 24 or 25 minimum and will be considered expendable at 30, 31. How did we get to this point there's such a small window for baseball players? Every ballplayer should be furious at the age of analytics. Killing their checkbooks.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2018 -> 04:57 PM) Well at least we've settled it, Greg is ok with Nassar being let out of jail as long as one parent gets to punch him a few times. I don't think I said I wanted him out of jail. If I did, I apologize. Obviously I want him in solitary 23 of 24 hours a day the rest of his life. Give him one hour a day outside the cell. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 12:00 AM) So why do you want him out of jail so badly? 5 posts in a row: "we get it, but the judge has to keep the extracurricular stuff under control or the case will be thrown out on appeal and he'll be released" The next post by Greg: "MORE EXTRACURRICULAR STUFF!!!" That can only translate as you really, really want him out of jail. Why do you want him out of jail so badly if you're afraid of something happening to your daughter? I don't want him released. His crime is one of the worst in the history of mankind. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 07:07 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-gre...-143647887.html With the F1 girls now being ended...how long before ring girls at boxing matches or even cheerleaders fall victim to the #metoo movement? What about beauty pageants? The SI Swimsuit Issue? Just curious what everyone thinks. Got to get rid of all of that. No more cheerleaders. No more beauty pageants and no SI swimsuit issue. All must go in this day and age.

White Sox Bullpen Battle
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 03:30 AM) No we’re not a closer and a setup man away from competing for the division. That type of thinking is what got us stuck in mediocrity for so long. So you are expecting Cleveland to roll again? I'll never get used to this era where we like losing. Drives me insane. I think not contending in this crap division should be a fireable offense on a yearly basis.

After all, if you went out and shot a bunch of dogs, other dogs wouldn't be mad at you. They should go sit around and be happy that you've been nice to them once or twice and not complain. Here have a biscuit. That's a good way to shut me up. Write a post I don't understand. Not sure of your point. I thought Bernie's policies would be good as far as social issues which is usually a Democrat strength.

White Sox Bullpen Battle
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 12:48 AM) This is seriously a cliche at this point. Look, everyone from top to bottom of the organization knows this is still another rebuilding year. The young players will learn, grow and go through rough patches together. You seriously think losses with the bad bullpen blowing the games will break them? In this day and age, wins to a pitchers record is about as meaningless as, well, having a dominate closer on a rebuilding team. If you don't want to watch another long and boring and frustrating season, you should tune away from any Sox games in '18. On the upside? We have stock up both MLB and AAA with hard throwing reclamation projects. With the cost of bullpen arms in the FA market, if we can turn 2-3 of these arms into Kahnle, we will have some cost controlled bullpen arms when we're ready to compete. I don't see why we have to have the worst bullpen in baseball. I mean our division reeks yet we make no attempt to improve the worst part of our team. Nobody's ever said on the record that our goal is to lose all our games. Look, Detroit and KC arguably reek. That leaves Minnie and Cleveland. Cleveland is the cliche. The Indians haven't completed the deal and unless they are like the old Braves may be ready to have a bad year and play closer to .500 than dominating. Minnie isn't for real. They are cheaper than the Sox organization. I contend if we actually had a closer, a setup guy and let either Soria or Nate be the third reliever we might actually win the damn division.

White Sox Bullpen Battle
QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 3, 2018 -> 04:23 AM) What a colossal waste of money that would be (I know you weren’t suggesting signing him). Cooper may be overrated in some areas, but one area where he’s had consistent success is bullpen arms. We should all know that by now. I love Hahn trying to collect as many lottery tickets as possible for Spring Training, see if you get lucky one 1-2. Waste of money?? Why do we care about Jerry's money for gosh sakes? We need some real bullpen arms. It won't help the confidence of our young players at all if they get us a 6-1 lead and our pen blows it from the fifth inning on every night. If our starters can take a lead into the sixth, how frustrating to have a bullpen thais bad. This bullpen is going to be historically rotten. Nate Jones is an injury waiting to happen and Soria is laughably bad. The other guys? Nobodys on paper. I mean if we're taking all season again, fine, but the worst way to lose is to have the bullpen suck night after night. Makes the games insufferably long and boring and frustrating.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 07:08 PM) It would be one thing if he got to the guy, but he didn't. That monster not only committed these crimes, but has zero remorse for what he did. I hope he fears for his life every minute that he's in prison. Did you see a dad went after the creep today in court? Pretty cool. He asked the judge if he could have one minute alone with Nassar and she said no. So he said, sorry, then stormed Nassar. He got off without being charged with a crime as after lunch he apologized to the court and said he wasn't trying to upstage the victims who included I believe 3 of his family members! I hope the guy gets his 20 minutes of fame at least for trying to punch Nassar. Nassar is such a scumbag.

I don't understand why African Americans despised Bernie. Makes little sense. His message wasn't offensive in any way. I feel like Bernie mania would have usurped Trump mania in the long haul.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 09:42 PM) This could turn out to be the worse bullpen in the history of the franchise. Trading David Robertson was nuts. On paper this is a miserable bullpen. Nate and Soria are very bad and they are the best of the bunch. Sign Holland or lose 105 games

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 06:38 PM) You're only looking at one year's worth of data....and even then, his second half was a lot better than his first half, even with a bad September: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...mp;t=b#all_half I'm just trying to use the same standards regarding Avi and Abreu as Hosmer and Manny. For instance except for Hosmer's defense, Abreu looks like the better employee. Avi and Manny are about the same age and one is considered a god and the other a blah.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
What about Manny Machado's stat line last season makes him worth all the money he's going to get? If he has an off year it should be interesting to see the excuses of fans still wanting to pay him 30 mill a year. Last year .259, 33, 95 RBI. His OBP .310 with 50 walks against 115 strikeouts. Since everybody's talking Avi's BABIP, what does Manny's suggest for this year? Decline? Or he's going to be great? I mean I like Machado's traditional stats OK enough. .259 is blah. But at a similar age, Avi hit .330 with 18 HRs, 80 RBI. 33 walks, 111 Ks. Avi's BA was much higher, Manny's HRs and RBIs greater. Manny had more than 100 more at bats. Hosmer, who is considered a god and about to make 20 mill or more year hit .318, 25 HRS, 94 RBI, 66 BBs, 104 Ks. He's about to enter his age 28 season and wants 8 years. Abreu hit .304 with 33 HR, 102 RBI and .354 OBP with 35 walks, 115 Ks and he's entering age 31 season. Arguably he's better production than Hosmer only 3 years older.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 07:43 PM) Yeah for sure. And looking at the free agent tracker, you have Morrison, Melky (teammates seemed to like him), Bautista, Duda, Ethier, and Carlos Gonzalez (rotate between DH and OF) just to name some. I wouldn't mind Davidson getting a chunk of the at bats (he'll still get a decent amount between 3B/1B/DH and based on what other positions a new primary DH can play) but I wouldn't be mad if they signed someone else. Or depending on what else comes over, a deal for Kemp. Good point about Melky. If the Sox truly were going to go after a Kemp-like DH, you'd think they'd just sign Melky for a year or two. It's pretty odd that so many players have yet to sign. It's getting late. Normally teams are pretty set by now, just a couple weeks out. Hosmer and Moustakas need to sign with somebody as well as a ton of other guys as you mentioned. Melky isn't that old and he doesn't have a job yet. I guess there are so many rebuilding teams a lot of veterans are going to be surprised when they get zero offers.

QUOTE (Real @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 01:41 AM) SANDERS didn't have the name recognition nor had the corporate media behind him. We also know that Clinton literally funded the DNC herself and had all of the strings of power. Exactly. Bernie had no chance because accept it or not, the DNC and Hollywood and everybody on the liberal side wanted to coronate Hillary President because it was her time, her turn, her career achievement award. Bernie may have had a tough time winning it all because of the Socialist tag but he wasn't given a fair shake. In a way I don't blame the Democrats. You'd think anybody, any candidate, could beat Trump. So give Hillary her achievement award and let her claim what was rightfully hers in terms of coronation. I think Bernie had time to win more people over and I do think Bernie would have beaten Trump. He had a lot of momentum with the youngsters who loved him. Just as Trump mania was understated in the media, so was Bernie mania. I remember Hillary spoke in KC before the election and they couldn't fill bartle Hall. Half full maybe. Meanwhile Bernie came to Lawrence and the building was sold out and lines around the block. DNC didn't give Bernie a chance to sweep the country with Bernie mania cause of the aforementioned reasons.

All 30 MLB clubs will now have nets extended past dugouts for the 2018
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 09:27 PM) the replies on Ken Rosenthals tweet about this are so stupid. PEOPLE SHOULDNT BE ON THEIR PHONES THEN THEY WOULD BE FINE. Come on now, little kids have been hit by foul balls and bats, and it has had nothing to do with a phone. True, about the little kids getting hit and others just simply not paying attention. However we could start a whole thread on phones. I drove thru campus today and counted 60 percent of all students were on their phones while walking. Six out of 10 is about right. It's crazy how to millenials and those under 25 how their whole worlds are tied into the phone. It's pretty crazy when six out of 10 students on a very cold day were walking on campus using their phone.

White Sox interested in adding a DH
Davidson/Delmonico would make sense, especially if we still are trying to lose. Not trying to be a smart ass. Why add some veteran slugging DH. Let the kids bat and if we lose, we lose. Addendum: (My stance hasn't changed. I like to win, but I've accepted the rebuild).

The Sexual Assault problem
ESPN the Mag has a good article on Nasser. It seems to me he could have been stopped a long time ago. Very very sad. My heart goes out to the gymnasts and I hope they can go on to lead fulfilled lives despite this creep violating them and removing their innocence as little girls. He is a rat. I don't wish for him to be beaten in prison. I'd prefer him be in solitary forever. Or just one hour a day near people; 23 to think about what he did.
