  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 08:59 PM) One thing I never understood about teams holding on to these weird old racist names and logos based on Native Americans. There are so many cool names to go with. Cleveland Spiders was a really cool name. That would be bad ass if they changed to that now. I saw some of the alternate logos people did for the Redskins, some really cool ones. The Spiders would really be good. The Cleveland Spiders. Wow. You have something here. Send some tweets to their media.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 01:03 AM) The advanced stats say that 2017 was likely an aberration. Because of BABIP? One stat. He's destined to drop. Hopefully Avi reports to camp in as good shape as last year and doesn't get fat and happy. If he remains the "in shape" Avi ... look out.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 06:58 PM) Avi got a ton of hate up until this past season. Even now he gets more doubt per square mile than any other player on the roster. Let's face it, there are people on this board (I'd say 40 percent of the peeps, maybe a bit more) who will never "believe" in Avi. His age and his production scream "excitement" and "potential" but Sox fans just can't unequivocally support the guy. That's fine. He's got to prove it again. I'd say if he has the same year this year as last there still will be severe detractors. I guess they will want at least 15 more homers from Avi, a ton more RBIs. The funny thing is that the advanced stats all love Avi and still the advanced statniks here can't buy that Avi is a star. Again, that's fine. We Avi lovers can't win; and Avi can't win. If he sucks in April and May ... wow the naysayers will want to run him out of town. If he excels? Big deal. It's not sustainable. Tough tough crowd and it makes no sense cause of Avi's age and his WAR. p.s. Would the nontender crowd like for Hahn to just dump him for scraps ASAP? Dat's a good question. p.s.s. The Royals getting rid of Moss?? Now that makes sense in all aspects. Avi being dumped? Makes no sense. BELIEVE.IN.AVI. He will deliver, folks.
  4. Scott Baio may not be guilty. He provides evidence.
  5. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 04:30 PM) So you admit that the economy got better under Obama but he didn't get enough credit for it. But if the economy suddenly started getting worse under Trump, it somehow wouldn't be his fault? What I'm saying is it's 100 percent partisan how most see it. The economy is allegedly better. Since Trump has only been in a year, the Demos are saying, "Duh, it's because of Obama." The Trump-ies are saying, "Trump has completely turned around the economy. The stock market is so confident in him it's amazing." My stance? You won't like it. My stance is I have no idea. I'm not the smartest cat on some issues and economy is one of them. My gut feeling is this is not an all-Obama fueled economic resurgence.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 05:52 PM) Plus no one agrees on what his actual worth is. There are so many questions with Avi, it is almost impossible to see him dealt right now. We'll know a lot more in a few months when he either hits like he did last year or regresses some amount. I can buy this take. If Avi is as productive as last season, somebody's going to be acquiring a very good hitter for a number of years. If those other Sox outfield prospects are much much better than Avi I guess it's win/win for everybody when the Sox finally trade him, hopefully for good relief pitchers. But I remain happy Avi and Abreu will be with the Sox this season. I'm sure "many" will be discussing flipping he and Abreu at the deadline all season which is always annoying.
  7. Like everybody said they had to get rid of the logo. They ought to change the name of the team. Times change and unfortunately for them it's very offensive to many.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 02:46 AM) I'm just surprised we haven't seen a comment yet about the Bush SNL impression from Greg... Bill Maher has dissected President Donald Trump’s oft-repeated defense that he’s “the least racist person anyone has ever met.” On Friday’s broadcast of “Real Time,” the comedian said that if Trump kept on insisting it was true then he had to explain “why the single most consistent thing in his whole life is he loves to pick fights with black people.” “Of all his myriad insanities, if I had to pick one line for his tombstone it would be, ‘Here Lies Donald Trump: Picked Fights With Black People,’” quipped Maher. “Think of the list,” he said, before reeling off the names of people that Trump has attacked over the years. “Is it just a coincidence that he’s perpetually pissed off at the NBA and NFL but golfers and hockey players never seem to bother him?” asked Maher, before lightheartedly suggesting another group of people that Trump may like to aim his anger at instead. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bill-m...4b0ddb658c6a899 Voters of color won't be fooled by Trump's claims on black jobless rate https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/26/opinions/eco...nion/index.html You know what, I did watch SNL again. I generally like Will Ferrell. I only liked one skit quite a bit on the show. It was where a bunch of couples were sitting at dinner and were uncomfortable discussing sexual harrasment issues of the day. It was good stuff IMO. I thought the Bush thing was not good. I mean, it's been too long. I didn't see the point of it. Again, I love Will Ferrell. I think I may have smiled at one of the jokes or something but it was dull skit. Again, I thought one skit in the whole show was funny or sort of funny. I really like Kate McKinnon and wish she was in more skits. I will say I do respect Ferrell. He was probably in six skits in 90 minutes, maybe more. That has to be hard to do live with just a week memorizing lines (i realize there are cue cards). In conclusion ... Ferrell on the whole A-plus. Ferrell on this particular show - D, but not through his fault. Bad skits.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 08:27 PM) Funny thing is, is that if the rumors were flipped and it was reported the Sox had no interest in Machado or Yelich this winter, these same people would be complaining about it. Whiners are gonna whine. One thing ignored is that Hahn has said repeatedly they would continue to seek players that can be apart of the next contender and come with long term control. Yelich fits that and until Machado made clear that he would not sign an extension, so did he. I see no inconsistencies whatsoever coming from Hahn. Wrong. Whiners are not going to always whine if you are referring to me. I've accepted the rebuild and am not clamoring for trying to acquire Machado or Yelich. In fact, I don't want to suddenly trade the young guys Hahn has stockpiled. There are plenty of things I've praised about the Sox on my time on this board. Some things, however, make me mad as well.
  10. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 08:21 PM) Greg you make me want to swallow my gun. Why. I try my best. I can't help it if people think I listen to Rush hours upon hours and Hannity (I actually can't stand his voice and won't listen to him more than 30 seconds) when in all reality I catch a take from Rush if I'm not in the mood for the Beatles channel or local sports talk radio in the short spurts driving around town. I want prosperity. I don't see much of it the past several years.
  11. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 08:03 PM) 1. Neither do I, and he's done nothing in his first year to change that. 2. I also want prosperity, but personal wealth (mine, yours, Trumps') shouldn't be at the expense of our rights, the environment, etc. Money isn't everything. As a Catholic, you might recognize "whatsoever you do to the least of My people, that you do unto Me." 3. Ultimately, I want Trump to succeed. I try not to think of politics as an us vs. them thing. If everything is good for the vast majority of people due to the policies of the current administration, what do I care if the person getting credit has a D or R next to their name? Truthfully, I don't notice much of difference personally no matter who is in charge. And, my response to your earlier post was that you wouldn't take the time to look up the stock market results for preceeding years. They were not all negative, as I recall. But, I don't recall Rs rushing to credit Obama. Good point on No. 2 Buffalo. Trump certainly does not qualify as a good person I don't think. I should blast his social agenda more on here. Good points. 3. I agree. As I've stated most of my presidential votes have been abstain or for the Democrat and I am a Republican. I have heard about Obama deserving the credit for the economy being better. But in the story I read it said if the economy was bad now, the Obama lovers would be blaming Trump not Obama. So it's all partisan.
  12. QUOTE (Quin @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 06:18 PM) Greg, you bit on that one hard. I usually believe all posts are true except for the ones from sincity about Avi in the Hall of Fame, etc. That's the only example of baiting/trolling I feel exists. That's why those who say I troll are incorrect. I speak what I perceive is the truth at all times.
  13. QUOTE (Quin @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 07:07 PM) Why mess with alcohol? You can drive drunk and do lots of things impaired. People are so stupid. Do you watch a football game? All the ads are beer. You act as if this is something radical, suggesting people drink beer and get drunk sometimes in doing so. I'm pointing out I never saw the benefits/logic in sticking a needle in one's arm. There's no way in hell I'd ever do so. Or snorting coke and wrecking your nasal passages or taking a pill that u know is gonna blow your mind away. If you have to get high why not do it the way billions of people have done it forever. Drink once in a while. And no, I don't drink. I have had half of one beer the last 3 years. Not really interested in it.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 03:50 PM) Rick Hahn is the voice for the entire organization. Ownership doesn’t give many interviews, so it’s the job of Hahn to speak for the franchise. Because of that, he has to hedge in interviews a bit. He can’t come out and say “Listen, 2018 and 2019 are going to be a mess from a W-L perspective. If you want to see wins, go someplace else.” It’s a marketing disaster. On top of that, why can’t the plan change? What if the team as currently constructed goes out and wins 82 games with huge seasons from Moncada, Anderson, Giolitio, ect. 2019 is just supposed to be a lost year because it was never part of the plan? Things can change. Great post. I do think, however, Hahn doesn't even have to give a year he hopes to first contend. Fans of the rebuild gladly will wait. It's the part of all this I don't understand. The huge majority of fans love losing as long as it's part of a rebuild.
  15. Scott Baio is denying all charges of inappropriate relations with Nicole Eggert when she was underage. His facebook live defense is interesting to say the least. Worth a watch if you have 10 minutes. His wife appears to be supporting him 100 percent as he has some key facts in his defense. Not judging Nicole by any means, just saying it's interesting.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2018 -> 02:59 AM) With the way he treated Anita Hill I can understand why you like him. You should have written you "can't understand" why I like him. By writing "can" you are attacking me. You are either saying I approve of bad behavior toward women or am racist or something you have no clue about to make those charges. In fact you are wrong if you feel I am either of those. I just read about Biden's treatment toward Hill. He said he wishes he'd have run the court sessions better. He said other were attacking Hill and he didn't do enough to stop it. Nobody's perfect. Biden to me doesn't seem like a bad guy. But your saying that about me is unacceptable and sad.
  17. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 27, 2018 -> 02:33 PM) I feel like Greg will ignore this. Information learned flipping through channels (and landing briefly on a conservative radio or tv program) holds greater weight for Greg than any other form of information. And he doesn't even like Trump. But, come on guys...he's just askin'. I don't like trump. I do want prosperity. So yes i want him to succeed
  18. Are the millenials messing with drugs? I never could figure out how anybody could willingly put a needle in their body or take a pill that they know will f*** with their mind. Cocaine? Is that still in? Marijuana? I guess that's the only drug I can understand although it will smell up your house, your car, your clothes. Give me 8 beers if I have to get mind altered. Why mess with drugs? People are so stupid.
  19. Was switching channels and one of the cable networks had a host yapping about how Trump is not getting the credit for the surge in the economy. Said if this was a Democrat everybody would be celebrating in the streets over the economy.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 27, 2018 -> 02:45 AM) He said tonight he hopes to be ready by ASB. So he will probably be ready by 2021 All Star break? There won't be any reason to pitch him after that. He's out for the season?? Geez.
  21. QUOTE (zisk @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 11:20 PM) I'd be cool with owners not spending on questionable free agents if they would lower prices on tickets with the savings. I always go at least once a year to a home game, but if it were a little less expensive I would definitely go more often. FWIW I'm 55 and am financially comfortable. Its got to be tough for younger less affluent people to afford a day at the park. Amen. But that ship has sailed. If you want a good seat, not some ridiculous nosebleed, you will pay huge bucks. And baseball wasn't designed to be a sport for the elite. There are so many games it was supposed to be the affordable sport. Baseball and the NBA now are for the elite (if you want a good seat). Ridiculous but it won't ever change. As far as baseball players, they are screwed because of modern sabes and metrics. Now 32 is considered old and in the past baseball players easily could play til 40 and were very productive. Now the cliche is you can't sign anybody to a significant deal over 32. Lorenzo Cain is 31 and people are thrilled he's gone. Because they think he'll hit .140 as a 36 year old in his final year of contract. The players are in trouble cause they are now ancient at 30 cause of the Sabes people.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 02:11 AM) It'll be interesting to see if Biden goes for it in 2020. He was my first choice for 2016 and is probably one of the dems best candidates in some of the rust belt states. I worship Biden. I know why he didn't run last time, but it's a shame. He would have defeated Trump and we'd all be loving life so to speak. We were stuck in Hillary mania and there was no way of knowing America would for sure veto Hillary. If Joe is healthy at 80, I still hope he runs if all we have are the usual lousy candidates. Of course I love Bernie as well but he's a bit more radical than Biden.
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 05:43 PM) I'd be reluctant to spend huge cash on a guy heading into his 30s on a rebuilding team. Especially, with the loss of a draft pick by signing him. This can't be true. If it is, I hope our fans don't like the move. Time to be consistent here. If you don't wanna sign Abreu for age reasons and don't want Avi for concern about his remaining as good as last year, you certainly don't want Moustakas for age reasons and same thing, he could get fat at any time. Also we already have Davidson who is unpopular I know, but also Burger who was supposed to be the 3B of the rebuilt WS era.
  24. Read an article about the asshole who molested all the gymnasts and will rot in prison. Yay! That bastard. Anyhow the article said MSU may get the death penalty over this. And then I read another story that said the school may be forced to close. Simply shut down by the state if indeed everybody knew about that bastard doctor's behavior. Really? Is this possible?
  25. Royals fans would fit in well on this board. They are thrilled to lose Cain. Why do so many of you favor management so much? My gosh you want these owners to make sooooo much money. Royals fans are saying Cain isn't worth the money and five years is too many and they are thrilled they get a compensation pick. I don't know why people have the deep down desire to tank and sign as many unknown players as they can. You know a lot of unknowns bust. Take the Royals. Bubba Starling was a top pick. He flopped. Also that infielder who they got rid of, Christian Colon, was a can't miss high draft pick bust. I agree with Boras. Baseball has been ruined by the tank mentality. Very few teams want to win. Sad. And fans are backing the teams on this. They don't want players like Cain cause they make a few bucks too many. Yeah right. Cry me a river for the poor owners.
