  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 09:53 PM) I think he's right - too many rebuilders. I cause, I think is the 1 game wildcard.. Teams aren't going to go "all in" for a 1 game playoff series. And honestly, it's ridiculous. Instead, dump divisions and the top 4 make the playoffs...or top 6 and run normal playoff series. Agreed. That one game wildcard is absurd. You guys are right. If you are the losing team in the one-game playoff, it really is silly. It means nothing and your season was unsuccessful. One game wildcard? A joke. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 12:43 AM) You can go through these 7-10 year deals they almost never work out. Pujols. Fielder. Ellsbury. Crawford. Owners are tired of setting their money on fire and I don't blame them. Nice post. This is a good thread. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 12:45 AM) Never count Boras out, this is all part of the game. Maybe it doesn't all go in his favor, but all it takes is one team. I also agree with this. He still might strike paydirt with Hosmer and Moustakas.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 05:17 AM) Greg, you must be 70 years old. Who else watches SNL and listens to Rush? Ugh. I don't listen to Rush. Three to five minutes every two weeks does not constitute listening to Rush. As far as SNL ... do you read CNN, Yahoo, google? Their every move is covered by the press, which loves to review the skits trashing Trump. SNL is popular again. People watch it. I don't always watch it but if I"m home I turn it on. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 05:25 AM) Weekend Update has gotten so, so bad. They just need to have Kate McKinnon perform in every single sketch. Weekend update is so so bad as you say. Again, all Trump all the time. I'm sick of Trump. Time to move on and have some funny skits. I agree about McKinnon. I especially love her UFO character.
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 04:04 AM) A good wow? Get a lil pumped reading it? I got so pumped I just started a stupid thread. Please tell me you at least got a half-stick reading that. Yeah, it's all good. A little surprised at that much optimism.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 11:42 PM) This team could actually win the whole **** thing from a Wild Card in 2019 because if things go well they should be getting better as the season goes on. This team will win the whole bleeping thing in 2020 if we don't do anything to f*** it up beforehand. I won't comment. Only say wow at your post
  5. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 09:08 PM) The skit was funny because it's true. Link. Omg. Skit was horrible. Boring. Audience was silent
  6. One thing is for sure. SNL hit a home run last year with all the funny Trump stuff. Saturday's show was filled with Trump stuff and it was boring. SNL needs to move on. That was last year; this is now. Trump stuff has not been funny, SNL. They need some fresher stuff. One skit was unwatchable. A game show called "Does it Even Matter?" The questions were all about Trump and his atrocities with the punch line "does it even matter?" The guests would say yes then the game show host would freak out about trump and say nothing matters. The audience was taken aback by how boring the skit was. Unfunny.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 01:26 AM) Apparently despite hours of tear-inducing statements, a gymnast calling out the president of Michigan State university for looking the other way while girls were being raped, callouts over the head of USA Gymnastics for looking the other way, and multiple legal cases, the 3 cable news networks covered the USA Gymnastics rape cases for something close to 20 minutes total this week. If you'd like to see Aly Raisman's statement, the NY Times printed it in full today. I feel so sad for the gymnasts abused by that creep/cretan. I mean USA Gymnastics according to Aly knew!!! WTF. And they wanted her silenced and not make waves. This is such a scandal. Did you hear the testimony of the one gymnast? It was graphic about Larry (as Aly referred to him) whipping it out and playing with himself as he rubbed the kinks out of the gymnast. This guy attacked these young girls, as young as 13. He is the scum of the earth. I feel so bad for all gymnasts. That sport tears down your body. You need medical attention a lot. And this Larry guy took advantage of little kids and pretty much raped them. This is one of the saddest stories of the last 200 years. I'm sick. God bless you gymnasts and may Larry rot in hell.
  8. I was wondering if this current period of time because of Trump is closest we've been to a completely divided country, almost to where there would be another Civil War. Trump is so despised by a segment. Yet there are those who voted for him who are very aggressive and they constitute a sizeable amount of people. Add to that all the unrest over the cops killing people of color and the white supremists vs. BLM and you have a truly divided land. If America wants to be divided it has succeeded. Perhaps the most divided ever except in time of official Civil War? that will be Trump's legacy. A split very angry country.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 06:38 PM) If there was a question about this being a .500 team next season, this should answer it. This is the post of the year or at least the offseason. Shields and Gonzalez as choices? LOL. People will pay to watch those guys be 2/5s of our rotation? Ridiculous.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 09:52 PM) If you think people don't begrudge the owners money you haven't read the posts on here about JR being a billionaire and too cheap. Or the comments about the McCaskey's being too cheap. This town dislikes most owners because they are rich and "cheap." I totally am against the owners. They are the ones who pay the big bucks and started the escalating salaries. To show you how out of whack salaries are ... the owners passed the expense onto the fans with ridiculous costs for parking and food and drink. The sucker fans are willing to pay 10 dollars for a beer and whatever it is for parking. There's no reason with sound systems and TVs being as great as they are that anybody supports MLB teams with their attendance. People should attend minor league games and college games and watch MLB on TV. The costs are insane and I blame the owners. You can say what you want about how cheap it is to go to an MLB game. I don't buy it. I'm not talking about nosebleed seats. Nosebleed seats reek. I am totally anti owner. They caused this mess by paying so much.
  11. Seriously when Orson Wells had a fake end of the world thing on the radio, some people killed themselves. To see an official report of bombs coming in Hawaii ... I'd think some folks would panic and kill themselves at sea.
  12. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 07:29 PM) You realize this would essentially legally bind women into having sex when they sign this contract, even if they change their mind afterwards right? I never thought of that. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 07:32 PM) It also misses the main issue here, that consent isn't perpetual. Good point. I never said I was smart. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 07:53 PM) greg, you are about 13 years too late on this idea https://vimeo.com/183089808 Wow, I swear I didn't steal Dave's skit. I hadn't seen that. Great mind thinks alike (kidding).
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 09:30 PM) Why isn’t the Stormy Daniels story a bigger deal? http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/19/politics/sto...ysis/index.html National Enquirer Shielded Donald Trump From Playboy Model’s Affair Allegation Tabloid owner American Media agreed to pay $150,000 for story from 1998 Playmate of the Year, but hasn’t published her account Don’t we trust the PMOY a little bit more? https://www.wsj.com/articles/national-enqui...tion-1478309380 Notice the very conservative WSJ was the source for both these stories, originally I was thinking the same thing. This is huge as Trump would say. I mean he was married and if he had affair with a porn star, that's kinda crazy. I would think wife would leave him immediately at the very least.
  14. Guys, guys guys. Was driving to get a haircut and listened to Rush. Hmmm, he said the economy is thriving under Trump. Said stock market is doing amazing. Said everything Trump is doing is working. Says Democrats are causing a ruckus over the shutdown to deflect attention from Trump successful economy. Before you deem me some Rush fanatic, folks, I listened for a grand total of 3 minutes before commercials hit and that was it.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 02:14 AM) Greg, it's not so complicated. We're supposed to have EQ and sense when someone is hesitant or not completely comfortable. That's when you stop whatever you're doing and ask, "Is that alright?" or "Are you okay?" Or you simply should be so confident of yourself that you allow the women to lead the physical interactions in the beginning stages of a relationship, until you're 100% sure about how she feels about you, that she's "into you" or whatever phrase people use these days. Not a bad post Caulfield. It's hard to discuss this topic on a message board.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 11:13 PM) Or you could just, you know, ask the person. What point are you trying to make? What, on a first date, a formal declaration? Asking if she wants to have sex? Are we to that point? I think many people (I hesitate to say most lest I be called some kind of scumbag) have had one night stands in which (whether you were in college or not, uh beer beer beer and more beer and parties parties and more parties) things just sort of happened. I'm all for changing society and making it a formal question on every date if that's what this has come to. Making it illegal to have sex unless a formal question has been asked for permission. And perhaps we should tape the exchange and/or sign documents agreeing to sex. I'm all for gentlemanly behavior at all times, but it seems to me because of the nature of some of these incidents of he said/she said, we perhaps should go to a formal written contract saying both parties agree to sex. If you are a celebrity you certainly have a career to lose in a second even if wrongly accused and you did nothing wrong. Better to get it all in writing in the future. If you are into the wilder lifestyle you could carry contracts around much like people carry anything else in their wallet or purse. It's OK to redefine legally what is allowed to happen on a date.
  17. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 05:03 PM) His wife has probably known about it for years and doesn't care. I don't think she stays married to him because she's actually in love with him. But a porn star complicates things. That's kind of a wild affair. Trump's wife could get quite a settlement.
  18. This thing about Trump and the porn star could get interesting. His wife could leave him over something like that. That would shake things up even more in this travesty of a presidency.
  19. The incident in Hawaii was horrifying. To tell the people a missile is coming ... I mean that's one of the worst situations in human history. I'm surprised some people didn't commit suicide on the spot with a missile allegedly coming to blow you to smithereens.
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 04:17 PM) But it's not really clear, even if you believe her side of the story. Again, she readily admits to numerous sexual acts throughout the night and she could have left at anytime. Was he pushy? Sounds like it. But she didn't help the situation by sending out mixed signals. It's not really fair to (1) willingly participate, (2) regret it and then (3) talk to a blog or whatever that website is and pretend like it's a case of assault. Let's face it. The bottom line is when she first resisted AT ALL he needed to turn on the TV and say "my bad, I misread the situation let's watch some TV." Can I get you some water, some coffee? Let's just chat." Then if he got bored, pretend he's falling asleep and hopefully the date ends right there with her catching an Uber or continuing to watch TV til she wanted to leave. There are no excuses for men in these situations. If a celebrity in the past has "pushed" as Azid did in this case, his career may be over and he may be in jail facing charges as well. I have no opinion either way except you now must be a gentleman at all times. It's just the way it is. In the past you also should have been a gentleman but we all know when you meet somebody things can escalate. The term is one-night stand for a reason. There can be no more one night stands, folks. Celebrities beware. One night stands are ova.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 04:20 AM) He basically admitted to it anyway. This dude is writing the book on how to not be presidential. Policies aside, he is representing us so poorly. We are a joke around the world. He is a poor representative, agreed. But what did everybody expect. You guys all get mad at my simplistic view of Trump, but it's kinda true. The stereotypical rich older guy, who has had yes men and women agreeing with his every move and stroking his ego for what, 30 years now? You put an entitled rich guy who only tolerates yes men and women around him and this is what you get. Personality wise this is what you get. The only saving grace for the US could be is as a rich businessman there's a slight chance he could turn the economy around completely. He's used to $$$ issues and we might become elite country $$$ wise again. It would be nice if he got impeached. However, his VEEP isn't exactly great either, is he?
  22. How can we assume the first source is correct when several people are saying Trump didn't say the word? Trump is gonna have a field day with the "fake news" charges he likes so much.
  23. Hmmm. Lots of people at the meeting now saying Trump never said 's***hole'. Interesting. Libel suit?
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 09:47 PM) Apparently you must be a Democrat if you take a liberal arts class. Ugh. Republicans are either doctors, engineers, lawyers and MBA grads. Let’s not forget that the majority of immigrant groups majoring in STEM subjects are definitely not GOP voters...nevertheless, all Millennials majoring in humanities are unemployed/don’t pay taxes, live in their mom’s basement and voted for Sanders. I guess the corollary is that all white/male non-college graduates voted for Trump, but are never duped or uninformed. The wonders of groupthink. College graduates (especially women) are brainwashed by liberal professors. Everyone else by Facebook, Russian bots, FOX News and Breitbart. Since the majority of SoxTalk has at least a BA/BS, and are disproportionately white and male, compared to the general US population, shouldn’t they be voting or identifying with the GOP following that line of logic? Perhaps the solution is to invite some Ricketts-worshipping Cubs’ board posters to the Filibuster to make for livelier debates? No stereotypes there at all, right?
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 03:30 AM) There are republican posters here? I'm still Republican though as you all know I've not voted one for President in quite a while. And I'm a huge Jimmy Carter fan. I think Trump's comments usually suck. However did he really say this or not?? I want proof.
