White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:04 AM) Getting Machado for just this year is about the most pointless thing they could do It makes zero sense. He is not signing long term with the White Sox. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:05 AM) Why would ANY TEAM, much less your KC Royals, trade 3 TOP prospects for a two month rental like Johnny Cueto, when there was no chance he would resign with them? Well the Royals were trying to win it all that year. The Sox signing Machado makes no sense for 1 year. I hate the idea of "flipping" him at the deadline. That is just stupid as well. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:25 AM) What's the point in adding him for one year when you aren't trying to compete? Exactly. There's no way he's signing long term with Chicago. If the Sox could, as the one story suggested, have the trade contingent on Manny signing an extension within 72 hours or the deal is off, that is the only possibillity that makes any sense at all. I don't buy that he would EVER sign with us. Sox just aren't going to give him 10 years 300 million. The Cubs might, not the Sox. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 02:25 AM) Unless the plan is to then flip Machado at the deadline to a team in contention this would be the dumbest move we could possibly make right now. God I hate the flip idea here. So Sox deal 4-5 prospects they've acquired to gamble they can sign Manny to an extension, then realize they obviously can't and flip him for 4 different prospects. Weird. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:18 AM) F*** I hate this but I love it so much more. Getting Machado a year early would definitely help negotiations, especially if the kids develop and they have a a good development year. Also WSD is a legit source as they come,he's proven plenty he is legit. Cmon. It won't help negotiations. If Sox don't have the money to compete to sign him they don't have the money. Period.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
I have a serious question nobody has addressed. Why would ANY TEAM, much less our White Sox, trade 3-4 TOP prospects for a one-year rental? There's no chance in hell Machado will sign prior to free agency. Why would he? So rather than flame greg, please answer my question. Nobody has addressed this except me. What player the caliber of Machado has EVER agreed to a long extension with one season to go before free agency. s***, even Cain, Hosmer and Moustakas, who are average to above average players, did not do that and they like Kansas city, a nice, quaint town.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 06:17 PM) This has been discussed ad nauseum, but there are many things people didn't think Reinsdorf and the board would approve, but they did anyways. Again, if the White Sox are not willing to spend a significant amount of money in free agency next year, this rebuild will have slowed down monumentally. I don't know why I'm discussing this or anybody is because you simply do not trade four top prospects (even though I hate prospects) for Manny when he's a free agent in a year. It makes absolutely no sense as he's not going to sign with anybody before becoming a free agent and getting paid the maximum amount. The Sox can't win the pennant this season with Machado so it would be absurd to deal 4 propsects for a one-year player. That's why I say it's not worth discussing. If you must play fantasy baseball dream of next offseason and let the Sox try to get in the bidding war for Manny. Discussing things like this seem counterproductive. Sorry I elected to take part, but I won't post any more about Manny. It ain't happening just like Otani wasn't going to consider Chicago cause Chciago had no money to dangle to him.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) I still think it’s a year too early to cash in on our prospects though unless a deal is simply too good to pass up. It seems ridiculous to change course midstream and trade 4 top prospects for Machado especially when there's no way in hell the Sox will be the team to give him his 10 year 350 million dollar deal in free agency. I can understand trade talk but this is dumb to even talk about. Some things you know the Sox are not going to do under Jerry and one of them is sign Machado. I can sort of see why you'd want to trade 4-5 guys out of the guys acquired to sign Machado, but to do it for one year is silly to even discuss. Again, he's not choosing Chicago Sox in free agency. You can dream all you want but that is not happening.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newLDR_81.htm I do not see "destroying company property" mentioned anywhere. These are sports athletes. Where's the part of that article talking about the higher ups in the company refusing to listen to the concerns of one of its most important employees? It goes both ways. Sale started out by merely voicing his concerns about the uniforms. The team could have used them on a day he wasn't scheduled to pitch and solved the conflict. Sure he committed a no-no in destroying the uniforms. The team had a right to have him arrested I guess, but again, this is Sale we're talking here. If a company's top employee doesn't want to do something it might be wise to listen to said employee especially in sports.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 10:32 PM) Not really news or anything but Austin Jackson is doing an AMA on r/baseball and had this to say about his time with the 2016 Sox. Someone asked him about the clubhouse's reaction to the Sale jersey cutting. "I absolutely loved my time in Chicago. One of the best organizations I've played with. Enjoyed the clubhouse, the team was a really close-knit team. As far as the Sale incident - I actually wasn't there for that, I had surgery for a torn MCL. But when I went back, everybody seemed to be laughing about it. I don't think anybody took it to heart." https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/...winter/dr5iizy/ I still can't believe fans got worked up about that. Sale was hated by many on here for some reason. I applaud him. He told the front office he wouldn't pitch in those horrifically uncomfortable uniforms. Rather than risk blowing out his arm while pitching in jerseys that he hated and put him in a rotten mood much less uncomfortable mood, he took the scissors to them. Big deal. He had to pay for them and got fined and he prevented his teammates from wearing those monstrocities. Why wouldn't the team laugh about it? Why would anybody take the front office's position on this? Sale was a star and stars can be moody.

Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:04 AM) This is exactly what I said when I was mentioning the Hahn meeting I was at. Same with Avi . Dick Allen, predict whether they'll be traded or not. You saw Hahn when he said it. Wouldn't you say 90 percent yes they'll be traded? 10 percent no, until the trade deadline?

The Avi Thread
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:30 AM) Market for #WhiteSox's Avisail Garcia is heating up, and Leury Garcia is appealing to some teams as well https://twitter.com/670TheScore/status/940755173131079680 Hahn is licking his chops to trade Avi and Abreu and complete the tearing down. Then the heat's on him to get those younguns to the majors and start winning. Oh wait, the heat's not on GMs who rebuild. Fans love the unknown and the window of patience will be at least five more years with Sox fans who like all fans love the rebuild.

Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 05:57 AM) I love that you never use facts to support your "logic" - it's such an endearing handsome quality, big boy Dick Allen of our board here convinced me Hahn was determined to ship Abreu and Avi. After being convinced of it, it's easy to see why. Like I said it completes the gutting of the roster and the full rebuild is assured.
-
Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) So basically just "Rrrrargh, I hate the rebuild" is what led you to that conclusion? That's what I get from this post. Just give me credit for saying the trade 100 percent would happen after it's completed. Sox are determined to completely gut the roster before finishing the rebuild.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:01 AM) Not saying this applies to anything going on, but as a young man I "played the field" and wouldn't commit to a woman because I just wanted to experience what was out there. This led to a lot of bitter young women who made up plenty of false claims to slander me. I think their motives were often "well this will get his attention and scare off other women at the same time". A scorned woman is a powerful weapon and I was smeared like crazy for loving and not committing. Not proud of my actions looking back but I had plenty of false info spread about me that I had to unfairly answer for. I'm sure many of you experienced the same thing. Not saying this applies to any of these famous cases, but that level of scorned & crazy is certainly out there in droves, men and women. Can't help but wonder. I'm proud of the women who were assaulted coming forward and i'm sorry for the men who are innocent. And we'll never know who is who since they are all guilty first. Human beings. I hope the "false info" didn't involve the women going to the police with false allegations. Scorned and crazy is one thing, but if the women are falsely accusing men of crimes, they deserve to be prosecuted themselves and thrown in jail. You can ruin lives very quickly through false allegations. What did these women specifically do to you?

Giancarlo Stanton traded to Yankees
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 09:11 PM) MLB is soon going to have the same issue that the NBA is now having. Three or four "super" teams...Dodgers, Yankees, Indians, Astros. A small number of very good teams...Red Sox, Cubs, Nats and all the rest mediocre at best or tanking / rebuilding with ZERO CHANCE to win anything. Not good for the fans and not good from a business standpoint when fans stop watching or going to games because there isn't any point. I agree. Baseball is doomed. Millenials don't get baseball and actually despise it. It's way too boring and slow paced because of the umpires' refusal to care about the game and obey the rules and speed up the game. Those playoff games took forever and people just don't want 4-hour baseball games. Pretty much you can bank on the first three innings taking an hour. The next three taking an hour and the final three taking about 2 hours. Or at least 90 minutes for a 3.5 hour game, sometimes 4 hours. Ridiculous. You make a great comparison with the NBA. Only thing that can save baseball is the "tank" factor, though. Now, teams' fans can embrace 4-6 year rebuilds and feel they truly have a shot. They can laugh at those who laugh at their record and point to the rebuild. "Wait til next year" is a very valuable tool in marketing of fans. Always has been. And now with all the tank jobs, wait til next year is huge. At least there's a "reason" for teams sucking and fans love sucking if it's part of a rebuild. Very astute of front offices to embrace the build if they don't have the $$ to compete. Meanwhile, the rich will truly dominate like you said.
-
Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 06:31 AM) It seems obvious to you that they're going to trade Abreu based on Hahn saying they're not going to trade him unless they get the right offer and others saying the asking price is far too high. How did you come to that conclusion given that information? Dick Allen heard it from the horse's mouth. Plus I feel it's a clean sweep. He gets rid of the final two White Sox players who are worth a s*** and in return the rebuild is complete. He'll add 3 more top five draft picks as well. Unfortunately we're still going to need some veterans from other teams when it's time to win it all. I doubt all the players he acquired will be good enough to get it done, but maybe they will. There's no reason to keep Abreu and Avi in this current climate. Although the Twins and Tigers are very weak and it's like we're conceding the division to the Indians and Twins as the rebuild takes hold. Losing Abreu and Avi should guarantee last for 2 more seasons and that means coveted top five draft picks for Hahn and the rebuild.
-
Abreu trade "unlikely"
I still say you guys are wasting a lot of breath here. It's pretty obvious to me we'll be trading Abreu this offseason. Get used to the idea. It's happening IMO. In fact it seems like a front office no brainer considering what they've been doing and hinting as well. I fully expect him to be traded. Avi as well. After those two are dealt, the deals are done and it will be Hahn's baby completely. He'll be in full tank mode for 2 more seasons, 2018 and 2019 and then it will be time to win. He still might keep his job regardless of if we win the division in 2020 or not considering all the $$ he'll have saved the owners with attendance remaining pretty darn high. Plus don't forget he'll have a high draft pick next June as well as June of 2019 and 2020. That's three more top 5-15 draft picks. Our fans seem to be into this rebuild thing. I will say Rick Renteria had the boys playing very hard the last six weeks or so and if they continue to play hard that's probably all we can ask til 2020. GO SOX!

Winter Meetings 2017
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) I would think it's the exact opposite. Throwing 6 innings is more stressful than one inning two straight days. Rodon to me seems destined for the bullpen. Do you know who you are disagreeing with? Ptatc is a medical expert! He knows this stuff. Any medical info you need he is the guy to provide the info. He's either a doctor or something in the medical field. He knows his s***.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 12:18 AM) What does everyone make of the Warren Moon case? Seems the pendulum is going to swing back the other direction...that no married men (especially) dare hire any woman that's slightly attractive because the potential for things to blow up is too high to take a chance. From reading some of the background, it seems like the woman in the case was very ambitious (which is fine, in and of itself, for men or women)...but that she allowed herself to be put in situations that would potentially be compromising, that she had some sort of inappropriate relationship with Moon, she traveled with him/stayed in a resort or hotel room on at least one or more occasions, it went south, she was demoted and then she's now seeking revenge/compensation. After any workplace relationship goes wrong, does that mean that "sexual harassment" is now the umbrella for anything that's remotely inappropriate happening at work? Moon's got a very spotty track record, I think there was a case of domestic violence/battery in his past (already)...my point is more along what PTAC's been arguing, these cases are very hard to "prove" one way or the other in a court of law, so what's going to settle in as the accepted standard? Is there one standard for celebrities/elite/rich/athletes/politicians (usually settled out of court), and another for "regular" workers? My comment would be I'd like to think if a man boss behaves himself properly and does not sexually harass those who work for him ... I'd like to believe he'd avoid problems for himself with the company and/or the court system. Seriously. If you behave yourself I still have confidence in our legal system and I'd think companies would not fire the bosses without proper investigations. If you are innocent you have nothing to worry about I'd still like to believe (I can't believe I'm standing up for the suits here; I am normally not a huge fan of those CEOs who run certain businesses and the ultra rich certainly don't need Greg's support). But anyhow I can be naive, but I'd like to believe the law has your back if you are not guilty of sexual harassment. I'm sure there are many cases of people, men and women both, saying they got harassed to either a.) try to get some $$$ settlement or b.) get even with the boss for rude behavior. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 01:05 AM) CNN/WaPo working on a story that 20-30 congress members about to be outed for sexual harassment/misconduct. Supposed to drop very soon Seriously? That is a fricking lot of congress members. Kick 'em all to the curb if they guilty. And I think Access Hollywood should release the Trump tape. Why not? have him say it out loud so we can get him impeached. Bernie baby in 2020!

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) I do think the resignation was the right move for the party, but otherwise, for once, I think you're right. Twas a bad speech. My "problem" is he obviously wants to continue on and he says he is fully confident the Ethics Committee would have cleared him. He also in his only reference to his accusors was the fact he says he remembers the incidents differently but at the same time respects women enough that he needed to allow them to say what they felt happened did indeed happen. Well, my guess is there will be more Al Frankens having to resign. Trump obviously should resign as well just because of the Access Hollywood interview. If he really said he grabs women intentionally, etc., he should get the boot as well. Him saying it's just locker room talk is kind of weak. there will be many more resignations to come over these type incidents is my guess. But Franken did not want to quit. That's obvious. And if he was going to be cleared by the Ethics Committee as he felt, why not stay? He did say he wouldn't have time to do both his job and defend himself but I dont know about that. If he was going to resign he probably should have apologized at least. Of course if he admits guilt in any of these instances it could open him up to lawsuits.
-
The Sexual Assault problem
Two takes on Franken after hearing his speech. a.) he didn't want to resign. Clearly he did not want to give up this job so he shouldn't have. He should have forced them to have a hearing, etc. Because again, he clearly didn't want to quit. b.) If he was going to quit, which he did, he should have not given such a ridiculous speech in which he takes no blame and merely pulls a Kathy Griffin by saying Trump and Moore are bad, too. Not a strong effort, Al. I wouldn't call his speech very classy.

Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:35 PM) We better be competitive in two years. If we are Jose Abreu is the offensive force to lead the young talent to a championship Love El Rockin. Best fan ever. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) I sure can understand where you are coming from, but if we keep trading our best players especially team leaders like Abreu we find ourselves in perpetual rebuilding. I do agree with extending him and Avi Garcia. The concerns about injuries and such are just part of the game El Rockin baby! Keep posting.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) According to this, China would be more likely to take N. Korea's side. https://amp.businessinsider.com/china-north...cise-us-2017-12 If China takes North Korea's side, trouble is brewing. I wonder what a realistic scenario is of how the incident that spurs total destruction could occur. a.) Kim Jong-Un simply decides to nuke us and we immediately respond with nukes as those bombs are heading our way. China learns what's going on and launches an array of nukes at the USA mainland that effectively wipes us out. b.) We fear Kim is soon going to strike and we bomb North Korea sites of interest, factories, Kim's palaces, with more conventional bombs and then he responds with nukes to Japan, Hawaii and the US mainland. If China supports Kim in this, I fear much.

The Sexual Assault problem
Matt Lauer should have been FIRED after this interview. Fired, fired fired. He asks Hathaway what lessons can be learned from her incident? Lessons? She was trying to get out of a car and a creep photographer shot her inappropriately as she got out of the car. WTF? And his interview with Sandra Bullock in which Bullock calls him out for being a creep. "I have seen you naked?" Jerk. This guy got exactly what he deserved. Rude.

If you had to trade either Avi or Jose....
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) There will be regression. it's a matter of how much regression we have been debating. Not trying to flame (you see I've been quiet lately), but your two sentences got me thinking. I wonder how many players you can say that about in terms of "regression." There will be regression? Hmmm. ... I'd say of all the players who hit over .320 and hit 25-35 home runs you can expect regression next season. Why do we rate our own so harshly? Anybody who had a GREAT season, expect regression. Give me a percentage. 80 percent of all guys expect regression? Don't eat your own.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 06:28 AM) Our racist president stopped taunting China because North Korean taunts were more ballsy and they noticed. If you have a problem with this maybe you should have voted against it. How would that be possible. My choices were Hillary vs. Trump. ... Pass. I woulda voted for Bernie though. My hope is China saves the world from thermonuclear war.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 06:27 AM) He's laughing at you for supporting a standard, multiply divorced, sexual harassed and being ok with that. You're a laughingstock. You guys act like I'm president of the Rush fan club rather than catch him on the radio while driving my 4-door car to and from lunch sometimes. Man you guys are a tough crowd. Also that's a pretty mean take from a moderator. You say someone is laughing at me and you call me a name, a laughingstock for having different opinions than yours. How do you get I'm "supporting" Rush anyway. I listened to Jim Rome's TV show for 10 minutes today for the first time in a while and if I say he predicts an all LA super bowl I guess I'm now a Rome fan. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) So, you listen to Rush and come here and post what you heard him say. "Don't shoot the messenger." But, you never post anything from other sources. I guess you wouldn't get much from the Beatles or other music channels. I suppose there might be an occasional deep political thought on one of the two comedy channels, but I haven't seen you come here and act as Jon Stewart or Lewis Black's "messenger." And, yes, that is Rush. Other sources? I'm not a fierce political take guy. For instance I think the new tax plan will lead us to another Great Depression. Yet you guys think I'm all Republican all the time when I haven't voted for a Republican candidate in forever.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) What else are we supposed to do? Just listen to the Beatles? A little Rush throughout the day is ok. Occasionally a post reveals that some people read what I'm saying. Nice. I normally think I'm ignored.
