  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) The odds of me being named manager and the odds of Ozzie being rehired are probably similar. The dude wore out his welcome, and he is not a very good strategic manager. Are there any good strategic managers? Maddon has been called out and Girardi called out this postseason for dumb decisions. Francona's team flopped. I just wondered if there are any good strategic managers. Ozzie seemed to have as good a feel for the game as any except for the Sunday lineups.
  2. The quitting on the team thing is so cliche. It was late in the year. The Sox wanted to get rid of the mouth that roared. He didn't quit on anybody. He did exactly what the front office wanted ... leave. Ozzie's demise is a great lesson in humility for the working class. Remember no man is bigger than the company he/she works for. ANYBODY is replaceable. Open your mouth too much (once for normal working stiffs) and you are GONE. Remember that. It's why those people getting arrested during protests are so stupid as well. You get arrested, you are done for life. No high paying job for you, arrestee. The world stops for no one. We are ALL replaceable. Ozzie is unhirable cause he opened his trap too much. Case closed.
  3. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 02:16 AM) I disagree. He was average at best. If you have an opportunity to get a better manager, you do it. And Girardi is available right now. My Ozzie love aside, this is a move they can make now if they wanted to. Give Girardi the reins to the rebuilt team. Hire Renteria as special assistant to whatever KW's title is. Why would you not want to give Girardi this young core??
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Why do managers change so much in the postseason? Closers that have never worked more than an inning get 2 innings. I'd think it'd drive the stat geeks in the front office insane if managers are making moves they have no data on. It's happened for years like when starters are brought in late in important WS games. I'd think you'd want to do what you did during the marathon regular season ALWAYS in the post season for consistency sake. How dare hie pitch Morrow again! It's funny how in the regular season, manager's screwups aren't noticed much as it's all big picture. Now these managers wear clown hats consistently. Glad we were well-managed in our 4-game sweep of the Stros years ago. Go Sox!
  5. It's the offseason and people are not posting much which means they'll still get mad at me for bringing this up ... but I've been reading a lot of Ozzie speculation stories -- to the Yankees or Tigers, which are just reporters dreaming to get great-copy Ozzie on board. But it made me think. The guy is still young and has a WS ring and speaks Spanish. This guy, who assuredly has matured, would be perfect for our rebuilt team. Get him to sign a waiver saying a committee of three (Jerry, KW and Hahn) will have the right to fine him $100,000 for any controversial statements on Twitter or on radio or TV that they deem harmful. A second violation would be immediate dismissal. And he's also fined $100,000 if he ever makes the statement, "I'd tell you what I really think but I could get fined $100,000 if I do so." The only risk is that Ozzie will open his mouth in negative ways again. How many times did he truly get in trouble opening his mouth in his Chicago years? Not that many. Miami was the bad one. I know he's probably blackballed by all owners and will never work in baseball again, but the White Sox are a different organization. Allegedly so loyal. If Renteria doesn't work out, why not forgive and bring Ozzie back? Before you freak out and say I'm trolling or whtaever, remember Ozzie HAS BEEN in the news this week. Some stories have been written saying Detroit and NYY should hire him. Stephen A Smith called for Ozzie. It's not like I'm trying to cause trouble. Yes I worship Ozzie Guillen if that's the right word. Yes I want him back. And some of these articles give me a smidge of hope. So in your minds ... would you accept Ozzie back?? Please answer. a.) Yes. b.) No. c.) No Bleeping Way. d.) Yes dammit of course! If this topic angers you, sorry. But he is a part of Sox history and he's still young and available and talented.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 28, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) The crazy alt right media pundits are losing their minds. Hannity cannot take it. I'm amazed that all the talk show guys on radio seem to be far right. Limbaugh, Hannity, that guy Joe Pags. All Trump love all the time. TV is a bit different starting with the View. Almost all TV analysts are Trump hating people on the left now that O'Reilly is off the air.

  8. QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Oct 28, 2017 -> 03:00 AM) Why not? That would like Phil Jackson going to coach the Sacramento Kings or Bill Belichick going to coach the Buffalo Bills. Why would a serious manager come to an organization that can't even be remembered by ESPN? Joe Girardi is never coming to the White Sox. I never thought the Sox were a laughingstock organization just cause the Sox are located in the great city of Chicago. Cmon. Harry Caray made Chicago his home for decades. Michael Jordan played in Chicago for many years. Gale Sayers. Walter Payton, Dick Butkus, Bobby Hull. Kane. All those Cubs like Williams, Banks and now Bryant. Sox had Bo Jackson come to town. Frank Thomas. Sox won it all in 2005. I don't think it'd be embarrassing at all for Girardi to move onto Chicago. Sure he probably wouldn't do it, but I think it'd be because of the Kenny Williams factor. A true baseball man probably wants nothing to do with Kenny. Aside from that ... Chicago. Anybody's kind of town. Famous or not.
  9. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 05:56 AM) There is no reason for Girardi to want to come here. Why not? He's a baseball guy and knows Chicago is a great city for baseball and sports in general and we have one of the up and coming teams on paper. What would he have against Chicago except the front office dynamic of Kenny sort of in charge and Hahn sort of in charge? QUOTE (MEANS @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Can you not make 1 post even about managers and not mention your man crush Ozzie? It's really sad...give it up Ozzie is in the news. Why can't I mention my favorite? Also I haven't mentioned him in forever. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tige...ager/714921001/ http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2013..._love_to_p.html
  10. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 04:40 AM) I'm not in favor of dumping Ricky for Girardi, but it wouldn't be the same scenario as the Cubs. Renteria took a 67 win Cubs team and won 73 games. Renteria took a 78 win Sox team and won 67 games. I understand that was not Ricky's fault the Sox sucked this year, and it was stacked against him, but the Cubs fired him right as their rebuild was rocketing towards the finish line. The Sox *would* be firing him after the lowest point of the rebuild. This is about opportunity. How could the Mets not have waited a week? They didn't hear rumors Girardi was getting axed? They could have had Girardi in a coup. It would have embarrassed the Yankees big time. The Sox should hire Girardi. Only he, Francona, Maddon are the alleged difference maker managers. Rick Renteria will be fine. He'll be a highly paid coach as long as he wants to coach. He's just fine. But hire Girardi and let him have his way witih all our young talent. And give him some power to suggest trades or personnel moves. Kenny is a joke; Hahn appears to be good. The Sox scouts we know reek and our player development people reek. The only guy who is proven at developing players is Coop. He does a fine job. Nobody else has a track record at all. I am not demanding Girardi be named. Rick R is doing a fine job except for the bunting b.s. But this is a chance to grab him. If he broadcasts a year, you can bet we'll hire him after next season UNLESS as I said before KW is threatened by any big name managing hire, which is possible. He won the war with Ozzie and he knows how miserable the Ozzie years were for him. Peace out.
  11. I wonder who the Yankees have in mind. My guess is the owner is sick of Girardi just because he's been there 10 years. Stupid, however. He probably should be second in AL manager of the year voting behind Houston. The Yankees did great this season.Obviously this is a case of the guy being there too long. Sox probably should do what the Cubs did, in fact. It's cruel and heartless but he probably should be the guy to manage our young team starting now. Girardi probably is too big a name for that, though. Kenny probably wants to make sure he's the most important guy in the organization now that he was able to purge himself from Ozzie. No chance we hire a name manager as long as KW is there. I'm OK with Renteria, but if you truly wanted what's best for the organization ... you'd get rid of Renteria and bring in Girardi to fuel the WS years.
  12. Trump is so cocky and full of himself it's incredible. He was talking on some show today about standing ovations he got at some rally and on and on about how people love him. Hard to believe such a rich creep fooled America to vote him in. Seems enough voters just liked his non P.C. style in a debate format and speech format and they overlooked how rich and unlikeable he is. Good thing we have a system of checks and balances or he really might do something destructive. He is one annoying rich guy that is for sure.
  13. Turner is so hot it's unbelievable. What a postseason. The beard is hideous but he is simply amazing right now.
  14. This poor guy needs to become a coach. His body is broken.
  15. Has Holland announced his retirement yet? Has Shields? Has Pelphrey? They need to go away.
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 05:58 AM) Now greg, I was told by you it was a LOCK that the Cubs would be back in the World Series. I was told not to even think twice. So why should we take your prediction of Cubs “one and done” seriously? Well, even the best gamblers only win 60 percent of the time. Who would have known the Cubs would hit the brick wall after the big elimination game win over the Nats? If all the Cubs were as consistent as Rizzo the last three years (almost identical stats) they'd have won it all, though he also blew chunks in the Dodger series. Cubs magic is gone. Now they are just another team. I thought they'd have a Blackhawks type run with 3 titles in six years minimum and maybe 2 straight and 3 of 4 right off the bat. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) Sounds like a scapegoat so that Maddon can reunite with his old pitching coach. Not good to have scapegoats. Maddon may lose the clubhouse over this if he did it for personal reasons and if players liked the old pitching coach.
  17. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 10:00 PM) Can I suggest you look it up? Going to be honest, it’s the main reason you seem to come under attack on this part of the board. You say so many here engage in “group think” and you are only interested in posting links that are of interest to you or not being discussed. Maybe it’s “group think” because more people want to talk about General Kelly getting caught up in a fairly blatant lie, the media calling him out on it, then the White House calling the media “Highly Innaproproate”. Or the events surrounding Niger. I’m only speaking for myself, but that is more interesting to me than SNL calling Trump a cracker. Not trying to be a dick, either. 100% sincere in that. He can't accuse Greg of engaging in "group think." Say what you want about me, I speak my mind and my opinions differ from many.
  18. My take: Cubs ran into the real Dodger team, not the one that lost 11 in a row. Cubs were lifeless, almost as if they'd run out of gas (if you want to take the cliche avenue for why they lost; not just crediting Dodger pitching and the redbearded star hitter). Zobrist is suddenly over the hill; no magic this series. My take: Cub pitching coach unfortunate scapegoat, but since I don't even know his name, who cares? At any rate, Cubs looked like a dead team; could be it was the Dodger pitching making them look that way. It does appear they are another 85 Bears though. Cubs one and done; just like the Sox. Only one WS for Cubbies. Now it's Sox turn again.
  19. Rizzo had a very good year. Is there a player more consistent? He hit 32 homers, 109 RBI this year; 32 hrs, 109 RBI also in 2016; 31 homers, 101 RBI in 2015 and 32 homers, 78 RBI in 2014. No way the Cubs will go for Hosmer if they have Rizzo. Wonder who wants Hosmer desperately?
  20. Don't let Trump anywhere near that area. It's a trip that will probably not end well. USA meanwhile is preparing for North Korea doing something stupid. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/19/politics/nor...h-up/index.html
  21. Q had a good year.
  22. Is Hosmer worth 200 million total? I can't believe teams are still willing to pay this kind of jack. That's the rumored figure Boras wants for Hosmer.
  23. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 03:48 AM) I'm with you, I hated the trade and this postseason did not change that. It did not take much to see than Kahnle's turnaround wasn't a fluke. Robertson may not have been valuable on a rebuilding team, but definitely earns his salary and more on a playoff team. Not trying to start a fight and I'll stifle if I'm wrong but Sox fans undervalued Robertson as they tend to do their own IMO at least.
  24. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 04:25 AM) Roberts starting Utley and Granderson was idiotic. Your team has been absolutely rolling and you decide to mess with your starting lineup and put in two of the worst hitters in baseball? Utley is like 0 for his last 30 or somethig and Granderson cannot hit a breaking ball to save his life. Good post. This is going to be remembered as the Cubs IMO continue winning. Roberts has been deemed a genius until tonight.
  25. Having the Cubs in our division would be typical baseball and awful. I would think the Sox brass would love it. It'd likely help attendance in theory, at least until people got used to all the games. Don't do it baseball. I still can't believe baseball thinks it's great to have teams play teams in their own division 19 times. It's gawd awful.
