  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) Young players are gonna take their licks and have various issues to overcome. They do call it "development" for a reason and 99% of the time player progression is not linear. What's the gripe with Burger? He had a respectful debut. The only real disappointing season was Rutherford's lack of power. Even his season wasn't a total bomb. I'm confident that both of them will see vast improvements next year... and add Collins to the "likely to improve next year" crowd. Lopez and Giolito both excelled late in the season so much that they forced their ways onto the major league roster. Urg... I don't even know why I continue to speak logically to you about anything related to the rebuild. Here, let's try something new: Juda kopa leekey tradun zabetduc za, za!!! Smooch smooch wink wink honk honk smack smack. It wasn't me who questioned the guys I mentioned. I was talking about posts on Soxtalk. I've already read some 'concern' about Rutherford, Collins, Lopez and Burger. And of course Fulmer. And Rodon bless his soul is a ? mark now cause of injury. I'm not the one expressing the concern. I'm feeling concern after reading the post or two wondering about those guys.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Sample size is amazing. This is one start. His slider was flat, his velocity was still good and he was missing his spots a bit. Thats the difference in missing bats and looking like Cy Young. Lets give him a few starts before we declare him to be a bust in the playoffs. Exactly. If Red Sox fans are blasting him they are idiots. He got lit up. It happens. Like you said let's see what happens next time.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) Yea with Sale it was a cumulative thing. Breaking his foot in spring training stupidly horsing around. Helping to escalate the La Roche situation by taking the side of La Roche and publicly spatting with the GM. Cutting up the jerseys. And all that is separate from the very real phenomenon, which we all saw, of him getting too amped up on the mound when he doesn't have his best stuff, over throwing, and making his stuff even worse because he's missing his spots by a good foot or more. He's a red ass. I played the same way and although Sale has more talent in his left toe than I do in my whole body I can tell you I rarely played well angry. That's a cool perspective on playing angry. The 'only' thing I didn't like about Sale here was he's one of those Verlander (in his prime) types who won't take coaching. He'd be mad as hell if Robin dare take him out of a game early. In Chris' mind early sometimes was the 8th or 9th. The rest of your post however shows how different I am from this board. I didn't mind the LaRoche kid being in the clubhouse. Not at all. And I didn't mind Sale cutting up the jerseys. I mean who cares? Those jerseys were hideous. Read this story. Sale didn't think he could physically pitch in that monstrocity jersey. He expressed his concern beforehand. Did you all want him to get hurt pitching in the jersey? He knew he was going to pay for the jerseys. Did he inconvenience any of the players? Not at all. he saved them from wearing those ridiculous jerseys. Not saying you, chitownsportsfan, but I tire of the majority on here backing our questionable front office all the time. Sale gave the front office a chance to reverse its decision on using those jerseys OR they could have worn them on a day Sale didn't pitch. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/07/chris-sale...ss-first-jersey
  4. I haven't read the stories. Can somebody summarize this for us? Sox have little to no chance of signing this guy because "............." I am 'assuming' it's cause we just spent all that dough on Robert and aren't allowed to bid much and we can't even compete in the ballpark $$ wise. Is that correct? If this is the case ... wouldn't it have been smarter to go for this guy instead of Robert? Isn't this guy pretty much a can't miss pitching/hitting star?

QUOTE (South Sider @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 05:43 AM) Helps make the Sox look a little smarter in dealing him, as bittersweet as it is to say. I'd be very disappointed in a performance like that from Sale had our Sox actually made the postseason with him. It was one game. On the road. Against a good lineup. Sale's been off for six weeks. That's more concerning than one game. QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 05:57 AM) It's a shame we decided to trade Chris Sale and rebuild. Some of us fans hate losing this much and would rather see a fringe playoff team that may get to the wild card game and then get beaten down when Sale starts it Tough crowd here. The sample size isn't that great on Sale. If he's washed up, fine. Moncada could be a superstar who plays every day. I will be happy cause I want to win.
  6. QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 05:52 AM) Ready to eat some crow greg? Cmon, give the guy a break. Read this as a matter of fact. The author here says he's been in a 6-week funk. Maybe he is another guy who can't last a long season and sucks at the end. I wouldn't write him off though. He got lit up by a good lineup on the road. Let's see how he does next time. But as of now I can't really defend Sale's performance. He was rotten but I don't think we can write him off as some kind of bum. Now am I to eat crow about the trade? I said I like Moncada a lot already. But I still say Sale and Q provided a nice 1-2 punch and in my world we build a team around that not the rebuild. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/red-sox-...a-choker-takes/

The underhedline on this post is kind of classless. Sale is still a great pitcher. He did get hammered today. Anybody watch it? What was the problem? We saw some rare bad Sale starts with the Sox as well. Stuff happens.
  8. I realize my fellow Republicans are mostly to blame for this, but there should be a law that forbids Americans for having assault weapons. It's common sense, people. It should be very very difficult to obtain weapons of mass destruction at the very least. I know there's the argument, "he would have found a way to get weapons." Maybe, but cmon. It's not that difficult. Ordinary citizens can't acquire these weapons legally. Let's use common sense and change some things.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) BUT DON'T KNEEL FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. So you won't accept the fact I consider that a "team" issue? Wrong for one guy to be on an island in a team sport. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) greg just doesn't really "get" civil disobedience I get that they had to spend 16 hours in jail, get booked, post bail, now have court dates to get sentenced to jail or probation and now can't find a job that pays squat the rest of their lives. I watched the 45 minute Reb Z video of their protest on the highway and subsequent arrests. Chanting s*** that nobody hears cept a couple hundred youtubers and ultimately getting arrested does not seem so smart to me.
  10. I was wrong. Big time protests Tuesday in St. Looie. The protestors shut down a highway and 143 people paid for it by getting arrested. So because these people blocked a highway which is very dangerous, their lives are basically ruined. The protestors will never be able to find jobs as they all will have serious charges on their records. All because the are unwilling to protest legally. They've got to go block a highway even though it's been documented time and again they are preventing people from taking loved ones to hospitals on said highway. More power to those arrested I guess. In standing up for what they believe (as dumb as it is to march on a highway; I pray no people who needed to get to the hospital died on the highway) they've sacrificed future paychecks for this half-assed protest. Now if they protested LEGALLY, in front of city hall during the day or something, they might have actually gotten some publicity. Instead they protest at night, shut down a highway, get kettled, arrested, need to pay for bail, a lawyer. And the only publicity they get is from youtubers on the scene. So to all the dads out there, if your son or daughter marched on a highway illegally for this cause and got arrested, would you approve? Would you be happy? Would you be willing to support them the rest of their lives, cause they won't be working any high paying jobs with this on their records? Look ... it's f***ing stupid to break the law in protest of issues. It's fine to protest LEGALLY. It's great to protest legally. But tell me, if your relatives were arrested for this, you'd be proud? Or furious?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 07:25 PM) It is truly amazing how much heroism human beings can show in the face of immense danger. And yet, many of us treat one another like complete s*** on a daily basis, under normal circumstances. Really an interesting juxtaposition of human nature. I was thinking about this the other day. You are right. After hurricanes, people drive 200 miles with their boats and rescue strangers. In an incident like this, heroes galore. Strangers helping strangers. But like you said, on a daily basis, what's with all the terrorism so to speak in the workplace. People grabbing power and terrorizing people, stepping on people at work, backstabbing. Road rage for no reason. People screaming at fastfood workers, basically a caste system in which people with money s*** on the little guy all the time. It's crazy. Yet in crisis time after time, people help people. You said it best in your last sentence. Perfect words written by you to express the sentiment. That said, thank you on behalf of humanity to the heroes in Las Vegas. Thank you. And screw you to all the morons who do the other things I mentioned in this post. Shame on you people in America who do not embrace the golden rule.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) Bill James Online‏ @billjamesonline 1m1 minute ago More Tim Anderson of the White Sox had an official At Bat in 97% of his plate appearances, highest in the majors. Bill James Handbook 2018. I wonder if Tim's .257 batting average is one of the best all time of anybody with as many as 587 at bats and an official at bat in 97 percent of plate appearances. You draw 13 walks all season, it's very unlikely you are going to hit much higher than .257 just because of the laws of probability I'd think.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) You just act like you are in the minority in all of your posts. We ALL, if not most, loved the 1-2 punch of Chris Sale and Quintana. It's not like you had an original thought/idea/opinion about them. We all loved what they were and how great they pitched for us. Its' similar to your Abreu posts. You're the only one who values Abreu according to you. Again, take a deep breath. I am not the enemy. I am not the stereotypical message board enemy. The 10 percent of people who like me on here realize I can listen to reason and simply am emotional about my perceptions of how it should be re. the Sox. I thought I was in the vast minority of those wanting to keep Sale/Q and try to win divisions now. I didn't mean to imply nobody liked them as much as me. BTW if you were around then, I didn't care that Sale cut up those uniforms, either, as I understood his not wanting to wear the uniform and he had reportedly asked the Sox to not have him pitch the day they wore those monstrocities. I'm not the only one who values Abreu, but I did get very upset when people acted as if that record was nothing just cause he was older.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Are you f***ing serious? Only a "small percentage?" I was trying to be nice. I thought those of us who didn't want a rebuild were in the vast minority. You seem to freak out over my posts. Take a deep breath and realize I am not the enemy. I am a Sox fan, too. If I am wrong, give me your take, but you don't need to freak out and be bothered by me. I don't disagree with you folks that much. I am wait and see on the rebuild rather than excited about it; I like Avi and Abreu and Davidson a bit more than most and get defensive when they get criticized, yes; I tend to be more disturbed about our bullpen and 3 lousy starters (Shields, Pelphrey and Holland) than most. (Yes, I understand why they are here during the "we don't care about winning" part of the rebuild (waiting for younger players part of rebuild). So that's about it in terms of gross disagreements with the majority here. Relax and enjoy the upcoming winter. Oh wait. It will be horrid like all winters.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) I don't hope and pray about anything. That doesn't do a darn thing. I vote with these issues in mind, call representatives, try to educate myself about the local laws before my district blows up over something similar. Try not to be the person turning a blind eye, and try to support the people who have had to deal with this rather than insisting they go away so you can go back to turning a blind eye. I'm just pointing out another incident has come and gone. Did the blocking of traffic, smashing of windows of businesses, arrests of a lot of people whom I'm sure right about now (lawyer fees, rioting on their record forever) wish they hadn't protested, prove worth anything? At least your actions, calling representatives, might help some. So another incident is over. Judges and jurors have been slow to convict cops in these cases. Maybe prosecutors will do a better job getting these cops convicted.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) LOL. These incidents have been happening your entire life. You've just been able to turn a blind eye to them because there weren't camera phones and you didn't have to worry about it happening to you or your family because...well. Don't you hope/and or pray they stop? There has been a lot of progress with body cams, etc. Now we just need juries to convict.
  17. My same friend whose body was ravaged by all the chemo and radiation and is down to 95 pounds, the same woman whose 20 something daughter was hit by a car and killed a week ago, now has her other daughter in ICU. They thought they were losing her but she's rebounding nicely as they are inserting proper fluids to rebuild her system. One thing after another and my friend is a good good person. Special ed teacher, salt of earth type.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 10:42 PM) You are literally the only reason I doubt my position on the rebuild. At least I have the guts to admit to my rating of 4. I'm not hiding behind my rating. It's gone up from the 2 last time. It can keep going up. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 11:08 PM) You're the only poster out of what -- 5,000+ who is going to rate this effort a F... does that tell you anything? The rebuild is off to a good start. It has a long way to go. I'd have given it a 5 (at this early early stage) but a.) did you see our record this year? b.) have you read the posts here? Some well respected posters in the last couple days have expressed some doubt regarding Burger, Rutherford, Rodon, Fulmer and during the season expressed concern about Lopez and TA. Also to have a great rebuild we're gonna need a bullpen someday; we're gonna need a DH, etc. Hence, 4 (AT THIS TIME). Why is my position so offensive? Cause I haven't drank the koolaid yet?? Be patient. My grade can go up. We're rating the rebuild right now. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 01:48 AM) Yep but you're talking to a poster that has admitted they don't follow the minor leagues which makes their rating of a rebuild utterly silly. I mean, how can someone rate a rebuild when they don't follow the minors? Derp! I know Eloy is doing great and know about Collins, etc. I follow it enough to know who is looking good. I'm pretty satisfied with the performance of our key players. Don't know why my position is so annoying. I want the rebuild to succeed; I acknowledge the rebuild could succeed. But I really don't think it deserves an 8 or 9 right yet.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) Four of the largest rebuilding trades by the Sox ended up with the other team making the playoffs. Eaton - WAS Sale - BOS Quintana - CHC Frazier/Robertson/Kahnle - NYY BONUS: Clippard - HOU Maybe they had a decent manager to work with the stars. Just a thought.
  20. You guys all love the Sale trade. A small percentage of us Sox fans think Sale and Q were a pretty potent 1-2 to head a pitching rotation and only a lousy manager in Robin prevented some pretty good success. We had some pretty good ballplayers on paper during the Sale/Q era. Hopefully the Sale trade will fuel a nice rebuild; we shall see.
  21. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) one is fight. Ricky's guys don't quit. At least this year they didn't. And that made them fun to watch. There were only a few games where I thought they were just out of it and all teams have those games. But they fought for Ricky and they fought for each other which leads me to the next point...they are, for the first time in a LONG time, having fun. I think a lot of that lies at the feet of Yolmer, as that guy can have fun at a funeral. But it seems they genuinely enjoy playing the game and with each other. The moment I realized that was the moment Avi made the catch in the RF corner and high fived the young girl. Then the videos of the guys dancing in the dugout before the game started showing up. Yolmer being Yolmer. They are loose and having fun. That makes it fun to watch. It sucks when your team loses, but there's a bigger picture. This is the new MLB...tear down, rebuild, win. Tear down, rebuild, win. Kenny's retool plan doesn't work anymore unless you get lucky on drafts year over year. I watched some of the fun games. I do agree with you for the most part. I enjoyed the effort in "many" games I watched. I'm pretty sure Anderson scored from first on a single the other night and that was neat. Yes I did enjoy the "fun" moments, which we see because of the great Sox camerapeople on the broadcasts. However, as devil's advocate, I think the team still blows (as of today) as evidenced by reality setting in in the last two series with Cleveland. Man we got blown away or stifled. Not much fun when the bats are dead and when we start bringing in that core of bullpen zombies. I did feel better recently when I asked a statnik Royals fan I know what he thought of the Sox. He said, "A lot of teams have had success with the rebuild." Yes he was a bit worried. That made me feel better.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) Yeah, I am deleting my posts. No interest in rehashing all of that again. I stand by your posts. Yes I gave the rebuild a 4, it's up from 2 earlier though. I'll be glad to amend if/when we start winning. If it's worthy, baby, I'll give it a 7, 8, 9 even a 10. But right now I'm with south.
  23. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) I would do that trade in a heart beat. His contract might not be great right now, but in a few years when all of our guys are reaching their big arb years, the contract may look relatively normal. I also think that with his new approach at the plate he can sustain this level of production, though not this many home runs. Plus, giving up Dunning and Adolfo doesn't leave leave any holes because both of those are really positions of strength in our system. He turns 28 in November.
  24. Well, after two weeks of protests it appears to me the St. Louis protests are over. Life goes on until the next incident. Maybe there will be no more incidents. We can hope and if we are religious, pray.
  25. Just another example. ... 500 injured; 58 dead in Vegas. You live a good life, go to a concert in Vegas you probably were looking forward to for a long time, and you don't come home. Your time on earth is over. Your one life to live is gone. For no good reason.
