Hawaii preparing for nuclear attack. Hmmm ... clickbait, fake news or are the end times a coming? https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/a...-by-north-korea

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) If he can provide a league average bat to go along with the elite defense we saw last year, he can be a 4 WAR player going forward. He's taken massive strides toward being that player again over the 2nd half of the year, and next year is his age 25 season. If he can manage to improve his bat (ideally by improving his plate discipline) to anything above league average, he could become an elite player. For how many years? Just curious as to how the WAR people look at longevity. Five great seasons in a Sox uniform then dump him? Or can he continue past 30 and excel as well?

Trade avi in the offseason?
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) At this point I have to imagine the Sox will get some nice offers for Avi this winter. Why? Our fans have pointed out it's all a mirage. Why would other teams think otherwise and actually want him? That's what I don't understand. All the BABIP red flags. Only the Sox fans notice them? Nobody else?

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) Moncada is playing some good baseball lately since switching bat weights. He's always had that eye, but it's nice to see him making adjustments at the MLB level. The pitchers and fielders positiioning will undoubtedly readjust to him as they gather more info on him So it will be interesting to see if he again can readjust. I still maintain that he won’t be that “next level” player that we are all expecting and hoping for however I do think he’ll have a few all-star seasons and be an above replacement player based on his speed, power and tools. Side note to make on this. I wish we would just extend Abreu in the next 12 months. I think he likes this team and is comfortable with the direction they are headed. After he knocks in a few more RBI’s he’ll be one of FOUR players to ever start their career with 20+ HR and 100+ RBI’s in his first 4 seasons. I believe the others are Ted Williams, Dimaggio, and Pujols. To think some of the lineups he’s done this on?? I just think it’s foolish to not keep him around. I think he’s the type of guy who’s going to be productive until 34-35. He puts in the work, is a student of the game. A great mentor for the young guys. Can slide into a DH role as necessary, etc. He’s arb eligible, but will be a FA earliest in 2020. If half way through 2018 he’s again doing the same at age 31? I say you buy out his 2019 and 2020 arb years and extend him 2 more additional years. That’s 4 year extension at say? $15-17mm a year? I’m not smart enough on arb numbers. Not sure what he’ll get each year for 3 years. But if you go over market value there, and then under market value for the last two years? I think its smart. He's a victim of the new cliche from fans: He's too old. He'll turn 31 before the start of next season. Too old to commit big bucks to. I guess right now the prime years for a ballplayer are 25 to 30. After that? Time to move on.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:44 PM) At least you fully endorse your statement that black people shouldn't protest anything that is important to you. Just keep it legal and safe or you should be arrested if u are protesting. Are you in favor in any instance of disrupting traffic or breaking businesses' windows? Please answer. The minute a person is blocked from getting to the hospital because of illegal protesting or a business has to rebuild because of protestors ... that's just wrong. Also at any moment you or a loved one can take a bottle to the head. it happens. This is real life and it is wrong.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
I think the Cubs and Indians are locks for the WS and the Cubs win again. Parade deuce. Cubs and Indians obviously were not into it until recently. They survived the doldrums and are ready to roll again. They have the most talent, folks.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:53 AM) Well yeah, this isn't the 1950s anymore. There will be no "war" with North Korea and that has been true for years. If they really attack anyone, they are gone off the map. End of story, no matter who is in charge, Obama, Trump, or The Rock. That's the main reason they haven't attacked anyone, just acted tough. Thing is, they are gone off the map, but they can take a lot of people with them. If they decide to bomb us, you better believe they will also send some nukes South Korea's way and we won't be able to deflect those nukes. So how do we blow North Korea off the map and at the same time make sure they don't blow up South Korea, Japan and Hawaii? If all those places are demolished with no survivors and there's nuclear fallout all over the world, that's bad.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 06:17 PM) No worries. KJU can't get past Kansas with his missiles anyway. Well, I'm sure the nuclear fallout would affect everybody. The water would be contaminated, etc. I'd think if Chicago got a direct hit, Kansas would be affected almost immediately. One thing about nukes. There won't be any protests once they hit land. We'll all be too busy looking for underground vaults to live in to worry about protesting. Also like I said, there will be no more sports to talk about. It's amazing how it's probably all rhetoric, but we actually have 2 leaders discussing total destruction. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) Kim is the weaker party, he is the one who has to threaten. The US is the strongest country on the planet, there is no need to threaten. Everyone already knows we can wipe NK off the planet, what is the point in repeating it? After the first warning/threat, its meaningless. Watch how it becomes weaker each time: Dont do this or Ill do X I swear if you do it again, Ill do X. I really really mean it if you do it again, Ill do X. One threat is enough, if you make a threat you have to be willing to act on it or it completely loses its value. Makes sense. I am hoping you guys who aren't too worried about all this are correct. Like I said, there are no 'do-overs' once the nukes are launched. Too late.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) Melky was the only thing fun about this team for 2.5 years. He loved playing baseball visibly so much. I'd love that back, but I hate getting a guy one year too late. Paul Konerko, I just wanted him to retire as a sox. But I didn't enjoy that last year at all. I happen to think Avi (and Abreu for the most part) have been pretty fun this past year. I think they show they love the game as well. Avi especially looks like a guy having a blast. He hustles. I disagree with your first sentence big time. The only thing fun about this team was Melky the past 2.5 years?? Sale was fun too; and Q was pretty fun for the most part. Maybe you meant the entire 2.5 year period; Avi of course was only good this season and Sale wasn't here this season and Q was only here half this season.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) The Sox will only be signing guys that provide depth, value (to potentially trade later) or fit into their long term plans. Someone like Melky is good enough to get a better offer from another team, there is no reason for the Sox to sign him unless it's an absolute steal of a deal. So we've learned Melky's advanced stats reek (his traditional stats are very good this year, I'll give that to him; like I said I despised him before he showed that toughness after getting smashed in the face and staying in the game) and he's still "good enough to get a better offer from another team." I'm not defending Melky for sure; I'm not a Melkster fan cept for the abovementioned studly incident) but lets say somebody signs him at the age of 32 for four years, 48 million? Why would a team be that dumb? In Sox message board fans eyes, they would FREAK if the Sox signed some 32 year old for four years, 48 million. Most don't even want to sign Avi to a 5-year, 80 million dollar deal and he's much younger. So why would you, BigRuss, say Melky can get a team to sign him to a "better offer?" Why are other teams so dumb and Sox fans so smart? I'm sure Sox fans have Melky worth Mark Teahen type numbers. Maybe 3 years 15 million max; more like two years 10 million. Even that price would probably piss people off here. So why do you intimate Melky can get a good offer somewhere else? Why would that team be that dumb to sign a 32 year old to a 4, 5 year deal at about 10, 12 mill a year?

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) If NK hits a country with a weapon, well cross that bridge when we get there. But for all we know that could be the precipice for deescalation because at that point Kim will know an actual response has to happen. It really shouldnt be about what some people think. This isnt High School, we dont have to prove that we can beat someone up. Words are meaningless. I know but Kim said the same thing, that he'd destroy the USA. USA is just responding with the same rhetoric. Hopefully it won't happen. Once nuclear war begins like I said we won't be worrying about the Sox No. 1 draft pick. There will be no more sports once nuclear fallout hits, etc. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Greg, the words you think were nice to fight back with was a threat of genocide. A threat to kill 25 million people. The President of the United States went to the United Nations for the first time and threatened to wipe out an entire country. Think about that next time before you praise someone for 'talking tough' Kim did the same thing and there's no outrage? Look up his exact words about terror or whatever he said. I mean Kim is the one firing up missiles. If one is nuclear and there's an accident and it hits Japan, we're all f***ed. Like I said the time to really worry I guess is when Trump tells all Americans to get out of S. Korea and Japan. this isn't good, folks, none of it.Like I said before, Trump and Kim are both crazy enough to be the ones who start the end of the world as we know it. We've never had a loose cannon like Trump in there before. This is scary.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
So Melky in his age 32 season hitting .284, 17, 79 and has good advanced stats. Never been one of my favorites until this season when he stayed in the game despite getting hit in the face with a ball. I won't blast him because except for the BA he has Avi-like numbers but in this message board world, Melky is certainly beloved by Sox fans while a younger guy like Davidson who is trying to figure it out is not so loved. Although the poster who started the thread did praise him for his perseverance and putting up some decent numbers in his first season. So I'm assuming we all want Melky back even at 33? Cause that's a guy we like, right? I guess if he were to get too much money he'd be hated on the board and we'd want no part of him, but I'm assuming everybody is thinking 2 years about 5-6 million a year which is OK in Sox fanland.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:33 AM) Because the entire NK propaganda machine is based around making it look like America wants to obliterate NK for trying to have it's own power. So now Trump is doing exactly that. They don't have to edit s*** together, just roll the tape. I can see your point. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:35 AM) NK already has almost complete control of the media, they can just make things up they dont need real news. In my opinion one of the biggest problems is that people tend to just write off NK/Kim as completely crazy and underestimate that their may be an actual end game for them. I think that their is an end game, NK knows that unification of Korea isnt on the table so they promote that in order to obscure what their real goal is, and that is to legitimize NK as a real power. NK knows the truth, their survival is tied to China. If something were to happen in China (revolution, etc) NK is done for. So I believe that they are attempting to create their own alliances with countries that are openly antagonistic to the US. While this may be a small list, NK knows that if they can supply nuclear weapons to their "allies" that it will create a military stalemate. Thus NK is trying to show countries like Iran that if they work with NK and get nukes, they will be able to stand up to the US. So every time NK sends a missile and Trump makes an idle threat, it supports their end game which is to create an alliance of nuclear states opposed to the US etc. NK is getting everything it wants right now from Trump, they are getting him to threaten to wipe them off the planet, they are getting him to suggest he will renege on the Iran deal. My guess is that NK leaders saw Trump is prone to bluffing his way through life and figured that they would test him. They called his bluff about the missile laucnhes and now the US has for the short term lost. If the US attacks NK, we lose. If the US does nothing, we lose. I do not know how any American can be happy with how this situation has turned out. Olympics are about to be in SK, Kim is going to be the talk of the town. This all makes sense. Not a bad post IMO. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:52 AM) Trump has a lot to lose in life. He is not going to do anything that will change the world order. As long as Trump does nothing, tomorrow he and his family wake up as rich people with great lives. There is no incentive for him to risk that. Calling Trump insane and crazy is lazy, the same way as it is to call Kim that. I may disagree with a lot of what Trump does, I may think he is not the smartest guy in many rooms, but whatever he is doing, he has an angle. And his angle is to make people think that he is maybe "crazy enough" to do it. But at the end of the day, I think Trump knows war is extremely unpopular. Death is extremely unpopular. And in a digital age, the pictures of a nuclear holocaust are going to be unbelievably unpopular. Why do you think the countries that are immediately threatened by NK arent asking for intervention? And if the US did nuke NK, what the hell are we going to do about cleaning up the Korean peninsula? Not one country wants the US to do this, we are going to be pariahs with a lot of blood on our hands. Look at what Trump said about Iraq, etc, things like "We should have taken the oil". What is to be gained here for the US? The answer is nothing. I hope you are right cause he has me thinking he's an old guy who is willing to drop nukes. Remember, all it will take is an accident. Kim's bombs have been flying over land right en route to falling in the sea. If he hits Japan or Guam, Trump IMO will start thermonuclear war. Hope you are right that he won't. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:54 AM) Maybe it's just me, but I think it's bad when the president of the United States threatens genocide. Some people would argue that it's nice to see us fight back words against Kim's words. Kim has threatened to bomb us. That's not good either.

Sox vs Stros game 1
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 04:21 AM) Giolito with another strong performance. Definitely. I hope Rodon is healthy next year cause Lopez, Gio and Rodon isn't half bad. If nobody else is ready, actually sign two "good" starters, not hacks like Shields and we might have a good rotation. Of course the bullpen as many have said still would assure last place even with a great rotation. Lotta rebuilding still to do.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:00 AM) I picture Kim really happy. All he wants is attention and to be noticed. He is getting everything he wants right now and in the process making the US look weak. He knows that the US cant nuke NK, its not an option. So the entire point is to show the rest of the world that they can call the US bluff as long as they have nuclear weapons. He has done more to promote nuclear proliferation in the 6 months than any other country had done in the previous 50. All the US has to do is make threats it can enforce. But Trump has to take it beyond what we can actually do, and in the process it has made the US look extremely weak. That is why you only threaten what you can deliver on. The only possible end game is for the US is to walk back all the threats and start the game over. I disagree with the premise. The US doesn't look weak here IMO. In fact it looks insane and crazy. I picture Trump as telling the truth. When I heard it I thought he meant it. Also there was a murmur in the hall when he said it. We can disagree here but I think Trump means it. Yes he's crazy enough to be the president who ends the world. Sure he is. You know I know not a lot are religious on here but I'm starting to wonder if the end times are near. Earthquakes, repeat hurricanes basically decimating a few countries so far, and two nutjobs: Trump and Kim Jong-Un to hit the nuclear war buttons. We have never had a nutty dangerous president like Trump to be matched against the crazies of other countries. As much as I despise Hillary and am neutral on Obama, they of course would not have us this close to nuke war. I disagree that people know the US can't nuke NK as you say. I think Trump would do it. Yes he's that irresponsible or whatever word you want to use. If one of Kim's bombs actually falls on land in Japan or Hawaii I believe Trump would blow NK off the map. The only thing that puzzles me is he hasn't ordered all US troops to get out of S. Korea in advance of possible bombings of the North which would force Kim to blow up South Korea and kill so many of our troops. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 05:04 AM) It also makes North Korean propaganda much, much easier. Why? They have threatened us. Now the USA is threatening back while mocking Kim calling him Rocket Man. I disagree with your premise.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 04:30 AM) Greg, the President of the USA resorted to name calling and used an emoji and hashtag to threaten to murder over 25 million in a nuclear holocaust. Well when you put it that way, it's not good. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 04:34 AM) Rocket man is a terrible reference. It makes me think of Elton John and in that song the Rocket Man is not a bad guy at all. It actually makes Kim seem like a sympathetic figure who is doing this because its his job. It just struck me as funny calling him Rocket Man. I can picture Kim fuming.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
Trump told the U.N. he might "totally destroy" North Korea and called Kim Un Jung "Rocket Man." Even if you hate Trump you have to love the Rocket Man reference. I wonder if Jung heard about it. s***, if you are an advisor and tell Jung about it, he might have you killed just for the hell of it. I hope you all are right and Jung doesn't want thermonuclear war. I don't feel like missing the 2018 Sox season living underground somewhere in a bunker. You gotta admit, as repulsive as Trump is, this tough talk is refreshing. Kim Jong Un is totally in the wrong with what he's been up to. GO SOX! GO USA!

Sox vs Stros game 1
Those were some miserable at bats in the ninth. Embarrassingly bad. Oh how I hope this team wins next season. What a waste of six months otherwise. Losing is really annoying and dull at the same time. Horrible game tonite cept for Gio and Moncada. And glad Avi was 1 for 3 to keep the average going.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 05:26 AM) The problem is is that the purpose of protests is to disrupt. It is why one protests injustice. It is supposed to be uncomfortable for the majority, and it is perfectly legal based on the constitution. The issue isn't the protesting itself; it is the fact that the police don't allow it. Where the hell is the ACLU? The problem is that most people want to maintain the status quo and don't actually want to help other people. Modern American society denigrates the qualities that make us decent human beings(compassion for others and community) and rewards the behavior of sociopaths and narcissists. Look no further than the man who is running the country. Society rewards the power hungry, ruthless, and cruel, and always has. Until we as humans evolve our thinking about these things, we will continue down a path of species self destruction. I can accept this post.

Police keep killing black people
Last night the coppers really got aggressive. I watched the tape of Reb Z getting arrested. They kettled in a group of protestors once the windows started getting smashed and a lot of innocents got maced and arrested. So did some of the professional protestors. I'm telling you, these St. Louis cops were not like Ferguson. They kept their patience but later at night the past few nights they made some arrests aggressively. One of the cops called Reb Z "superstar." They really were looking to get him it seemed. They finally nabbed him. I tell you, if you are innocent protestor and windows start getting smashed and you stick around, you are pretty dumb. Those people arrested are not gonna get off lightly. St. Louis cops came to play once the windows started getting smashed each night.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) 2.) Whenever somebody goes after the flag, it is usually an unwinnable situation because you are offending our great men and women of the military past and present. He can say all he wants about treatment of minorities but not standing at attention for the anthem?? You are attacking the soldiers who lost limbs serving our country and gave their lives. Usually these athletes that take a stand cannot survive such behavior because they are personally slapping our military personnel in the face. Watch the Military when the flag is present. Have you been to a military funeral? If the anthem is played ... wow, such respect. Your words. Wow. I endorse my post. Well written IMO. Heartfelt.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) Sad if you believe that to be true. I dont think people are inherently evil, I think that its often times easier to do bad things than good, but I like to think there are more "good" people than bad. So you think there could be a society without cops and the courts, etc? No way. There's a percentage of people that would run amok and gain power and cause all sorts of mayhem. I love good people but without authority? A few power hungry people (I won't say the H word) would take over before long. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Yep, I think he has that flipped. A small percentage of people commit crimes, a small percentage of cops are bad. But thats what makes good tv and thats what Greg pays attention to. I'm just saying we need cops. Do any of you disagree? I mean think of the workplace. Usually (at bad jobs) there's a couple aggressive power hungry warriors that move to the top and make life hell on everybody.

Police keep killing black people
The vandals are gonna face felony charges. Hope it was worth ruining one's life over to toss a garbage can lid through a window. Can you imagine if that's your first offense and your temper in this protest effectively ended any hope you had of making a good living? You are convicted of a felony? STUPID decisions protestors. This navy seal Gov. means business. (And if some cop threw a brick through a window, he can face a felony too). http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/g...885318db8a.html

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 04:04 AM) They actually have video of cops breaking windows. So shame on them I guess. Actually not true. Cops addressed this with videos at the scene of alleged cop window breaking. Yes there are bad cops. But without cops society is over. Man is inherently evil and man would run amok without cops. Sad but true. Now are there bad cops? Hell yes. I'm still steaming about the condescending prick who pulled me over that night in Kansas when he was dying to catch a drunk but I haven't had a drink in years. LOL to him. There are bad cops. But these protestors piss me off when they disrupt society as they have been doing. We just have to put pressure on our judicial system to convict crooked cops when the evidence says they committed a crime such as murder. From the "experts" on TV it seems it would have been tough to convict this past cop. Hence the judge did not convict.
