The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) "Don't put your hands on a woman's ass" seems pretty straight forward. e: where else are they supposed to go to expose these creeps? Amen. Kudos to the women who are telling the truth and bring this to public scrutiny. Now if they are lying that's a different story. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) No, this is so cynical. There is an opportunity here to actually change things. Your comment is so similar to the "So ALL cops are bad!? we get it" comments. If the people that take advantage of their power, for one, are held accountable for this behavior maybe it stops. But now that there are so many stories where people are putting their name on the line as accusers we hit a point where we just say "we get it, all men are bad, blah blah get over it". No, let the offenders face real consequences. Nothing was truly being solved by just paying out victims silently. Great post. Excellent IMO. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) No, you are naive. This is not going to stop men, particularly old men that are no longer getting laid, from being perverts. It's not right for a man to grab a woman's butt or vice versa. You got to pay the price if you do it.

Is Al Franken taking enough criticism for what he allegedly did? Maher was easy on him. SNL mentioned Trump being worse as well.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 08:31 PM) The President of the United States, tweeting that he should’ve left three collegiate athletes (and US citizens) in a Chinese jail because one of their fathers didn't display enough gratitude to him, is where we are when it comes to the office of the President. But you keep being greg. I don't like the attitude of Mr. Ball. It angers me. The Trump part of this doesn't anger me as much. It's the entitlement of the players. They could be doing hard labor for 10 years and Trump got them released. If Trump had a do-over he'd probably let them rot in China jail so to speak. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:05 AM) It would be nice if we had a president who actually did things because they were the RIGHT thing to do...not to kick off the latest cultural war. And not for public thanks/gratitude/appreciation. In this case, it's not even clear what exactly the right thing to do was here. One thinks that the 3 student athletes aren't going to receive the message unless they have their athletic scholarships revoked. Even that won't have much of an impact on the Ball family in terms of the serious of shoplifting, especially in a country where they could have ended up with harsh jail term of roughly 8-10 years. Athletes continue to receive the message that they're special and that SOMEONE will bail them out of nearly any situation if they can bring profit to universities and/or professional teams. Not saying Trump was wrong...just that there are tons of other Americans (see the story I linked above) that are suffering even more while jailed abroad. It's just that they are not famous or are lacking political connections to get them out. Good post. One of your best ever.

40-man roster decisions and the Rule 5 Draft
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 18, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) We’re already seeing it. Teams are embracing the tank. Can’t just look at the way things have been done in the past, but have to be forward thinking. I fully expect what the Padres did last season to become more and more common. Maybe not quite to that extent (i.e. three players), but moreso around taking high ceiling, but super undeveloped positional prospects. You ever think teams may be embracing the tank because a.) you get the payroll down to pennies and the owners love that! followed by b.) since some teams have had success with it, you are putting dozens of millions in the owners wallet while doing something that's popular with the fans. I mean you can lose up to 5 years during the tank and everybody's happy. It's the perfect nonsequitir for an owner who likes cold hard ca$h.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Good riddance then. Enjoy Kansas City. Its a rebuild. There are no sacred cows. I said people would be thrilled if I leave. I'm disgusted by the thought of trading virtually EVERYBODY who is decent and not a pitcher. Ridiculous. Abreu and Avi will not be old and decrepit when we are contending again. So trade them and you get 3 more prospects for Abreu (one great one on paper; two decent ones) and you get 2 more good prospects for Avi. Probably one very good and one good. Why? Give me one good reason we need 5 more minor league prospects of which 3 would probably be good but not as good as Avi/Abreu and certainly not leaders like those 2!!! QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 07:57 PM) I was on the fence about trading them before but now I'm definitely for trading them! Again, no need to have the requisite posts, great, trade them so we get rid of Greg.

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) What constitutes a "good chance" to you? The fact that it happened and has been reported on as happening. These types of crimes horrify me. Did you read the item?

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail! https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/...303108146892801 Stay classy, Mr. President. I have been neutral on LaVar until this. Those players have committed one of the dumbest, most rude, ridiculous crimes ever. They are basketball players in China (uh, I think they stand out in a store a bit as not being from the area) and steal stuff. And the dad of one of them is not mad at his kid but has this type of attitude. It's just flat out awful. The kid apologized so maybe the kid is humble, but the dad should be ashamed of himself. I know that's impossible but I'm fine with Trump's tweet calling out LaVar for his flat-out awful take on this situation. Again, to do what those players did is about as dumb a crime as one could ever imagine. U.S. basketball players thinking they'll get away with stealing stuff in ... China?? Those kids are dumb, LaVar, very dumb for thinking stealing stuff was a good idea in a China store. And lucky Trump helped them out.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) https://www.fanragsports.com/inside-basebal...hed-salary/amp/ "The White Sox are looking into potential trades for stars Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia. Though GM Rick Hahn pointed out that the market “wasn’t necessarily kind” to right-handed power a year ago, about 10 teams are seeking a first baseman, and Abreu may turn out to be a cost-efficient alternative following his excellent season. Both Abreu and Garcia are free agents in two more years, so the timetable of the White Sox and the two players don’t necessarily line up." Now I'm getting mad. This is irresponsible. We're not going to win a pennant without some leftovers. These 2 guys are excellent hitters and ballplayers and both have intangibles a team likes. If Hahn trades these two you may all have your wish, I may be gone as a fan. Done. It's ridiculous to trade these two and think we're going to win one or two or more WS titles with the rebuilt group. Ever hear of a mixture of guys who've been with the team a while and all the new young players? Hahn obviously (if this report is true) loves the fact all the statniks/trade people are praising him daily. Mr Hahn I ask you, what the hell is wrong with Abreu and Avi??? Why the need to trade them for MORE prospects.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 12:27 AM) You realize that things like this happen in nearly every administration, right? Trump did his JOB - he didn't go above and beyond. And no other President has had to demand an apology. Sad. Oh cmon. These 3 guys are lucky, lucky lucky that Trump helped them out. He did his job? Rescuing robbers? I think Trump's a chump but in this one, those kids are punks if they aren't grateful to Trump. Again, they were in deep s*** and got rescued. How can you take the kids' side on this one.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
Those guys should thank Trump over and over. They could have rotted in a jail over there for years. They caught a break, a big one. If they feel entitled over this one, shame on them. Again, they could be in deep trouble in prison over there, torture and all that. Dumbasses steal stuff from stores in China?? Geez how dumb are people?

Can Illinois Survive?
This is not good. A band of thugs not only robbing people in Chicago but beating them first. It's not good when you can't walk around a big city at 10 p.m. It's like New York way back in the day. I read these type of crimes are now common in New Orleans as well. Cops need to catch these thugs and put them in jail for 15 years. Again these types of crimes can ruin cities in a hurry. Who the hell wants to vacation in Chicago if there's a good chance you may lose some teeth or get a few ribs broken by thugs. http://abc7chicago.com/group-of-thieves-be...5-days/2661203/

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Downtown Detroit is having a bit of a rebirth. They are building and renovating a lot of the old rundown properties. Dan Gilbert owns about 15 buildings down in the epicenter. Of course Detoirt isn’t nearly the size of Chicago and where Greg is taking about doesn’t exist there. People forget Cook county is more populated than about half the states in this country. I just thought the South side was dumpy when I checked it out this week. It might have something to do with the weather; drizzly and dreary.

Can Illinois Survive?
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 05:36 AM) Chicago is the opposite of Detroit. Building more downtown then ever and rent is increasing every year. Nice. What is your opinion of say, the area starting at Midway Airport heading south to well past 115th Street; that's a huge chunk of chicago as well. I thought it was very old looking and dumpish.

Can Illinois Survive?
Spent some time on the far South side this week and was not impressed. Hopefully we are not gonna become the new Detroit. Old old houses. What's up with construction on Cicero streets around 95th St this time of year? People that run cities need to realize upgrades are needed. Thought Mt. Greenwood/Oak Lawn area was very run down. It was kind of spooky seeing Brother Rice had the exact same dugouts as when I went there many moons ago. Their baseball field looked like a dump IMO. My old Q of M church was locked up on Monday what was up with that? Churches don't close. The 115th St. Little League fields where I played as a kid classify as a dump. Some guy was working on them so they must still be in use. And I found out Wonderburger has closed. I will say there was a nice new little shopping area with a nice new Mt. Greenwood sign over near 111th and Kedzie. I wanted to grab a hot dog at Pop's on 103rd and Kedzie. Too crowded so I went to Portillos by Christ Hospital area. I will say the Oak Lawn Hilton has the right idea. it's a nice building and good hotel. What are your takes on Chicago's south side. Kind of a dump I'm afraid.

Dan Hayes Leaving White Sox Beat
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:52 PM) I thought he got rid of the nervousness. He was fine the past couple of years. I would imagine being mostly a writer and then getting regular on air gigs , takes some adjusting. I liked his content. It wasn't just all fluff pieces like we will now see. But that sells a little better I guess. I think if Dan had some more time on his contract, he wouldn't have been laid off. I wonder if Scotty Pods will be back in a part time pre and post game role. I don't know what he added. I don't watch the Cubs much but was Patrick Mooney used on their telecasts as much as Dan was on the White Sox? Maybe they are starting to prepare for the Cubs fleeing and like Gonzo with the Tribune only in reverse, Mooney will switch to the White Sox when they flee. Great post! Heaven forbid it take somebody time to adjust to something that was new to him. Some people who put thoughts on paper probably need adjustment time to formulating the words. You could say, "Then hire somebody who can speak in a camera!" Well that person might not write as well or have the contacts of this writer. Some people are so mean.

Athletics interested in Avisail Garcia
I hope we trade Avi to San Diego and are done with all the Avi talk regarding trades. He's one of my favorites and at least trading him to San Diego would make me forget about him. Let's face it. Sox are in a no win with Avi. Keep him and he does well and the money people will say, "Oh no. We can't afford him (as we save Jerry penny after penny)." Keep him and he reverts back, "See we should have traded high on Avi." I fully expect us to deal him at winter meetings or in that time frame. We'll probably get one good prospect, two fringe guys from somebody. I'd keep him and sign him to a nice deal but not earth shattering but like I said it'd be nice to not hear about trading Avi any more and if that means trading Avi, please do so.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) You step out of the box, you get a strike. Really unnecessary to have to adjust your batting gloves after the pitch you just took. It's ridiculous superstition of the players. Habit. They do the batting club adjustment. I'll have to see these changes in place to believe them. The umpires won't cooperate. They don't give a s*** about baseball. Their union is so powerful they wink wink at the game by calling the strike zone they want to call not the strike zone in the rulebook. They aren't going to agree to any pitch clock and they'll let the hitters do whatever they want outside the box even though it's so boring. TV needs to step in unless they really want 4 hour games. It's ridiculous that it take an hour or more to play 3 innings on the average.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 11, 2017 -> 02:37 AM) Gregg likes to ignore the facts to make s*** up as he goes along to support his whiny narrative. Hahn and the front office think the Sox next window won't begin until 2020. That puts Abreu beyond his current contract and at age 33. Abreu could be a player that ages well, then again he may not. Honestly, I think it would be better for the Sox and Abreu to trade him to a contender now. Sox get a few more prospects and Abreu gets a shot at playing post season baseball in 2018/19. Yet some of the guys that you guys want us to sign will be just as old as Abreu. I just wonder why I've got to be the guy who is always defending our players. Nobody else as far as I can read here is as mad/passionate at me in defending players. Who else out there is incensed at the idea of not having Abreu around for our WS contending years? Let me know.

The Sexual Assault problem
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) And that's the slippery slope. Personally, I don't see it as predatory to go out for drinks with a girl and end up back at one of your places to bang. It's never been that way until recently. They were called one night stands. Are these now a thing of the past in college? After reading this thread, sounds like the days of one night stands are over.

2018 Celebrity Death thread
Forgive my rant ... just saw one of Jerry Lewis' sons on TV. I think there were 4-5 boys from his first marriage, maybe 3-4. He left them NO MONEY. He left everything to his second wife and his daughter from that marriage. I know Lewis probably has reasons to be pissed at his first wife, but that's just bulls*** for a celebrity dad to not at the very least toss each of his boys $1 million. He'd still make his point. I mean ... again, from all I've read the boys were just normal kids. Yes a couple have blasted Jerry in interviews while Jerry was alive, but isn't he a big boy who can take it? Very sad to give his own flesh and blood nothing. If I were the second wife and daughter I'd give each of them $1 million. It's only right.

Your Off Season Plan
Hasn't he hit 30 homers and driven in 100 the last 4 years? He should be worshiped by our fans instead modern baseball ... "trade him! He might not continue doing this well. Besides he's a bad defender and not that good!!" Hate to tell ya ... unless he's been lying about his age he still in theory will be productive during our 3-4 year window of possible WS titles.

UCLA basketball players arrested in China
So Lonzo Ball's brother and a couple other Bruins were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and taken away by Chinese authorities. UCLA is there to play Ga. Tech on Saturday. Lot of speculation that they could spend 1-10 years in prison in China. Speculation that they won't be let go on bond and could be in jail 100 days before they even decide to try them. Any legal experts? Are these kids in trouble or will they get out of jail as good will by the Chinese government? My other comment is: If you were the coaches would you now refuse to play the game Saturday? I would not play the game. Get the teams the hell out of China and keep an administrator there working with the US Embassy to get these players home safely.

Another mass shooting, church in Texas
QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) If it's a white guy, the left calls for gun control. The right blames mental health and pretends it's a non-issue. If it's a Muslim, the left calls for gun control. The right starts blowing their racist dog whistle. Meanwhile, if there's a hurricane we all help each other. All races, all religions, no questions asked. Total assistance. Very weird non sequitirs.

White Sox unlikely to chase big free agents
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 06:38 PM) I will agree that it is very surprising the percentage of fans who think there is about a 0% failure rate on a rebuild. Hopefully it all works out. They do have a few really good looking prospects. Good take. I'm telling you fans who think this way. Please look inside and decide whether you are acting like a "wait til next year" fan. That's a dangerous way to be a fan cause you'll be waiting for decades. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) This is a great point. Posters are worried about spending $36MM for a closer but have illusions of "saving" money to make a big splash next offseason? Who exactly are they thinking the Sox will sign next year as a "big" free agent that will cost less than $75MM even? Even with all their prospects, there are a lot of holes on this roster now and in the coming years. I don't see management going all in on a Donaldson or Keuchel type let alone Machado or Harper. Even with all their savings, I think they will sign 4 or 5 guys in the $15-50MM range before they sign a single player in the $75-250MM range. Face facts. Sox won't be signing any big time free agents. If we're lucky, we'll sign some veterans for good but not great money and hope they fill a leadership role like a Zobrist has and like a Robertson did for the Yanks. Sox have a ton of work to do before they are serious contenders -- can you say bullpen anybody? I wish we'd get some more coaches the caliber of Coop? IMO he's the only one who is elite.

Another mass shooting, church in Texas
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) When I said he misses the point, I meant that people aren't criticizing politicians for offering "thoughts and prayers", they are criticizing them because that is all they ever do and doesn't help anything. Rush is too close minded to see the big picture. Or he's on ludes. OK, that's a decent point IMO.
