Another United Airlines debacle
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Got to the airport on time, checked in but needed to check bags. Their system showed they needed to check us in manually when we did it at the automated kiosk (even as a premier member). They shuttled us from kiosk to line to kiosk to line until we finally got to the right person and since it was 25 min before the flight they told us our baggage wouldnt make it so they had to bump us. Mind you they literally wasted 40 minutes not knowing what the hell they were doing. The next direct flight was 14 hours later or we could take a connecting flight which added about 12 hours onto our travel time. With a pregnant wife and a toddler, this was pretty much a disaster, and of course they already threw our bags on the belt so we couldnt do much but comply. Of course they still charged us for the baggage fees. I actually found a nice lady in customer service that corrected several errors like having all of us in a different row, not having the correct connecting flight and for some reason the moron at the front had changed our return flight to a connecting flight. The funny part was our bags DID make it on our original flight, and we would have made the plane easy since we all have pre-check. So when we got to our destination 12 hours later our bags were sitting in the united office....with nobody in sight. The office was closed so we had to wait another hour for someone to come and get us our bags. It was an unorganized s*** show from start to finish and nobody seemed to want to do anything to help other than the one lady in customer service. Thats the last bit of business they get from me. This is a true horror story. My gosh. You know, I know there's no way you folks could have carried on, but as a single traveler I almost ALWAYS cram it all into a carry on cause just one story like yours is too many for one lifetime. I know you couldn't carry on with a wife who is pregnant and a toddler. You have to live an incident like yours to appreciate how bad something like that is. Travel is exhausting any way (sure it's FUN when you get there finally and get your rental and get in your hotel) but when there are travel snafus and WHEN THE AIRLINE is the cause of the snafus, my gawd it is frustrating. Glad you are holding it against United. It's all we can do is boycott airlines that screw us over. I said on here Southwest has been my favorite BY FAR, yet a buddy of mine tells me a SW Airlines horror story from a few weeks ago. I'm not a fan of travel, just a fan of what happens when you get to your destination up until it's time to go back to the airport for the return flight home. Thanx for sharing your disaster story. Hope your pregnant wife wasn't too stressed.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Greg may be smarter than you all think or the best troll ever. It seems the only reason most people won't put him on ignore is because the temptation to respond to his posts is too great. It makes you feel smarter ( not you per se, all those who do respond to him). He is the most responded to and notorious member of Soxtalk. You can make brilliant observations and outstanding analysis but purposely being "off" gets you far more attention and responses. I don't mean to be notorious. It's taken me this long to express my anger at the fact the team isn't going to be good for several more years. I'll just stifle and respond with my opinions of the upcoming trades once they are made. By now my main points have been made clear and I will not repeat them: I am mad at Hahn, mad at Jerry, still mad at Robin, mad at Renteria's bunting, mad that Fulmer and some of the draft picks have not been so good. Since everybody knows where I stand I will not repeat these positions. If I find myself unable to do this, I'll just go away. Give me a clean slate starting now. I can accept that my positions are well known on the state of the team. GO SOX!

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) How about when the Astros recently traded Josh Fields for Yordan Alvarez? There are plenty of examples in baseball history of teams turning modest assets into gold by targeting raw, low level prospects with big ceilings. The idea of holding onto a free agent to be because somehow you don't think the return will be worth it is beyond ridiculous. In fact, it comes across as trolling as it defies all logic and common sense. And Greg isn't Rick Morrissey, he's Skip Bayless. Say something stupid, ignore all (well argued) counterpoints, rinse & repeat. Whether he's a true troll or not is up for debate (I have my suspicions), but at a bare minimum he is purposely being obtuse & outlandish to get attention. I mean how many times can we sit here and allow him to say "alleged rebuild" when there is zero doubt we are rebuilding. Honestly, I love this website and the community of posters, but Greg is starting to make posting here a challenge. And sure, I could block him, but his presence will live on through the numerous responses he gets a day. I'm just really tired of having to sift through his bulls*** to get to the quality discussion & debate. It's really unfortunate that one indivual poster can have this much of an impact on the board and nothing can be done about it. Don't worry. I'll lay off. I'm just mad at the current state of the team and the fact I can't get over the fact this division sucks this year and I was convinced we still had enough talent to contend had we not traded Sale and signed a few free agents. If Hahn can get 3-4 players for Melky, and Frazier, good for him and do it now. I happen to think not much of them and that they won't bring anything of note, but if Hahn can bring "something" in I guess I'm wrong. I have expressed my position enough and everybody knows I am down on the team so I will stop ruining the board with my anger at the team.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 05:26 AM) Let's blow through 4 trades in the last 30 years, real quick: -In 1987, the Braves traded Doyle Alexander to the Tigers. In return, they received John Smoltz. -In 1997, the Red Sox traded Heathcliff Slocumb to the Mariners. In return, they received Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek. -In 2008, the Indians traded Casey Blake to the Dodgers. In return, they received Jon Meloan and Carlos Santana. -In 2016, the Padres traded James Shields to the White Sox. In return, they received the second coming of Christ. This is why you trade guys who don't have much trade value. Anthony Swarzak has been a very good reliever, but he's 31 on a 1 year contract. If you understand economics at all, you understand why he doesn't have much value. You are not going to spend a lot of money on a 22 year old Honda Civic that recently had work done to the transmission, even if it's running phenomenally right now. Same story, except that you don't have a contract that expires with that Honda Civic at the end of the year, whereby that Honda Civic can pick its new owner. Greg, you're smarter than this. Stop trolling. Good post. We'll see how it shakes out. If the Sox are able to trade the impending free agent guys like Frazier, Swarzak, Melky, as well as guys I happen to despise (Holland, Pelfrey) I'll just wait and see what you all think of the return. Even though you make a good point that whoever we get could make it and our players are free agents anyway and we might as well get 'something back' we'll see if you guys think the return is reasonable or kind of a worthless exercise.

Attendance is Actually up 8.1%
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 05:52 AM) Lol - "glory of the game by itself". That's beautiful. Is that what White Sox fans should grasp onto AND have been content with these past 12 years since 2005? Forget the "WAHHH - I don't wanna be reminded of the owner's 40 years of futility!" facts. Let the "glory of the game by itself" flags fly over Guaranteed Excuse Field these days and damn anyone who dare criticize the horrific rate of winning that has occurred within. That's the approach less-than-serious fans seem very content with taking, which is just fine. If one playoff series with its lonely one win over the past 12 is good enough for those fans, then just say so. Go ahead, exclaim your satisfaction with that seemingly less-than-desirable record of achievement. In the meantime, let the more serious bunch amongst us share our views as well, without being subjected to the lame insults along the way. My favorite posters change once in a while, but Bosley has come out of nowhere to impress me and please me! Good posts Thad Bosley. Although I will never downplay the 05 title. I applaud them for that at least. Good job. But since then ... puke.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 01:21 AM) War. War never changes. I guess we can wait and see. But frankly I'm scared. We have a pretty unstable President it appears and kind of a strange duck as president IMO. He's pretty much capable of attacking N Korea at any moment. And we've got china and Russia who do not appear to be very sympathetic toward our position. If China and Russia wind up backing N. Korea on this for whatever reason, I think it's a tense situation.

Another United Airlines debacle
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) In all honesty this is how you SHOULD handle things like this. You mean the passenger? I disagree. She has lost feeling in her arm from having to hold the child for 3 hours. She paid for the child's seat. I think you owe it to yourself to speak up. You paid 950 for the ticket for the child. It's unacceptable for the airline to not fulfil the transaction and let the kid fly in their own seat. I tell you. If this ever happens to a passenger, the passenger has to make it clear to the moronic flight staff that you WILL be going to call the TV stations as soon as you get off the flight. You will be posting your story all over social media and you will be difficult. You can make a stink and be polite. If I misinterpreted your post, my bad. But I feel like this was not the way you should handle things like this because you the customer are getting royally f***ed. You are out 950 bucks and you are injuring yourself holding the BIG child 3 hours and possibly endangering the child's life. I also am very surprised the passenger who was seated next to the mom didn't offer to leave. I know we all have to get home, but ... clearly the passenger heard how he got the seat; there's a 2.5 year old kid squirming in the seat next to you for 3 hours. I mean, give up your seat to the kid and get off the plane. I thought United made it clear it was changing its policy to have the flight staff be able to solve situations like this using common sense. How could an entire flight crew and pilots think this was the correct outcome? How the hell did they get the kid under the seat belt on mom's lap? I thought we all had to be strapped in properly before the flight took off. I can't imagine one seat belt making it over the lap of a kid and a mom. That's my take. That United gets a Fat F and should lose in court over this one. Mega damages.

Another United Airlines debacle
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) United f***ed over my family and I on our trip two weeks ago. I immediately cancelled my credit card and transferred all points. I'm never using them again. What happened? When you get a chance please tell us. I feel flying United and American is scary bad. Don't like any aspects of it. And Delta.

Cafardo: Cardinals interested in Avi
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 02:12 AM) You'd be well served to actually read the posts you quote because you clearly don't, seriously, just give up and move on. Either you're getting your jollies or you're impossibly ignorant. This site has so many good posters who present actual facts to support their arguments and it makes for good discussion then you jump in with a high level, obtuse, oh gosh garbage post, congrats that's around 5000 in a row, you're very gifted at not understanding things. Please just stop. Referencing the fact that people hate your insanely ignorant opinions in 1/3 of your posts doesn't earn you brownie points, you just suck. Please, actually do a modicum of research on ANYTHING or just leave. It's not fun, you're just a nuisance. Literally no one enjoys this s***. If you actually gave a s*** about learning baseball you could have here, instead you just tucked your head up your ass and trolled. Weird post to respond to with a freakout. He is 2 for 31 and you'd think the law of averages would prevent such a slide at this point in the season from a .345 hitter, BABIP be damned. I am an Avi supporter by and large. Weird response from you.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) Why is it in North Korea's interest to lob a single nuke our way? They already tossed a bomb w/in 300 miles of Japan. One accident and it hits land and there's immediate response. To answer, their leader is a nut who knows he someday will lose power anyway so why not take us with him to his grave. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) We've already got two wars that have lasted well over a decade, cost trillions upon trillions of dollars, cost hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives and sparked huge refugee crises. Why not add a third? Sometimes you have no choice. Nobody wants war. War may be necessary here or to at least seek out Jon Un, kill him, and hope China and Russia don't bomb us over it. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) The bigger concern is NK selling advanced nukes to rogue groups/terrorists. They don't have the tech yet, but they will eventually. Sanctions haven't work. Global intervention hasn't worked. This faux show of military force hasn't worked. We just need to make a decision - are we cool with NK getting that technology or not? If not, there are difficult decisions to be made that would include military intervention. Great post. This is serious. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) It would be very hard to bankrupt US with a war unless the outcome is China winning and putting onerous requirements on US. If China defeated us in war, would they take over our mainland? Man, that is scary. Can you imagine having to go to some town meeting where the Chinese tell us what's up? And they begin torture, etc? s***. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) Regardless of the cost financially. The large loss of human life is what should be considered when thinking about war with North Korea. Very true. We don't want all those people killed in South Korea (from immediate response) and North Korea (our bombs). But think about it, Jon Un could attack S. Korea at any time and it's on. He could hit Japan with a bomb and it's on. He could blow up one of our ships hovering there and it's on. I think we're closer to catastrophe than anybody thinks. Plus Trump is aggressive. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) What we have been doing hasn't worked at all. It has still allowed them to keep advancing all of their weapons programs, including their nuclear one. It has been a joke. Exactly. They are the enemy and we must treat them like the enemy more and more. The question is ... do we treat China and Russia as mortal enemies as well? Depends on their response over the N. Korea situation.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) That's the absolute best way to get people killed. There's no real incentive for NK to launch nukes. Everything NK has ever done has been to stay in power. They've seen other regimes fall without the nuclear safeguard. There's no real incentive for them to fire first. And if they do, there's no guarantee that they'll be able to hit the US mainland, but there is a guarantee that they'd be wiped off the map. Deterrence isn't the sexy option, but it keeps Americans and South Koreans and Japanese and Chinese and even more North Koreans from getting killed. With a guy like Trump in power I think it's sooner rather than later something big happens in North Korea.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) Just stop it. They may not have value to you, but they may have value to other MLB GMs. Now only time will tell on the latter, but to keep pushing that everyone (outside of DRob & Q) is worthless is simply ridiculous. OK. We shall see how it plays out.
-
Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) Anyone you get for Swarzak is probably a long shot to be an MLB regular. But that is better than nothing, which is what you get if you don't move him. That is really all there is to it. OK. I guess he projects to earn decent to good money in free agency since that appears to be what you are saying. The Sox can't just keep him for scraps I guess.
-
Tim Anderson
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) I already called him out for this. If that ain't trolling, then god help us all... All I'm saying is his numbers project well as a catcher, really no where else at this time. He also has a good arm. Do you guys deny all these observations? If he keeps this progression up, he'll be a tad worse than Lexi's career, which I guess is still OK. Lexi was reliable. If Moncada and Anderson are as bad defensively as they appear to be, the Sox could be weak up the middle defensively when they have an MLB big-league roster again.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) Getting somebody that has the chance of being something on your next competitive team is better than holding onto guys that are impending FAs and will 100% return NOTHING. Pretty simple stuff. My question to you is: Do you really believe these players we mention have a chance of being something on your next competitive team? Is a guy like this going to earn squat in free agency anyway? I guess deep down the goal is to lose so many games there's no doubt who gets the No. 1 overall pick cause you guys certainly want to get rid of anybody with a pulse. It will be funny watching Nate Jones close next season. I can buy your premise if the guys we get for Swarzak have a chance to help a contending team someday but I severely doubt that.

Tyler Flowers is MLB's Most-Improved Player
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) I say good for Tyler Flowers. There's guys who haven't panned out elsewhere who have done so with the Sox, and vice versa. Hopefully for his sake he'll get a decent contract and make some nice $ for when he's done playing. I agree. He's already done a lot more than most ballplayers, assured himself a great pension and likely a spot on a big league club for a few more years. Good for him. He's way better than the hacks who have replaced him the last few seasons.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) THEY. ARE. REBUILDING. But if guys have no trade value do you really need 2 scrubs of return to dump in A ball somewhere and release in 2 years? The Sox have two tradeable assets in Robertson and Q and that's it. The rest will bring scrubs who mean nothing to a rebuild. You guys perplex me.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) He's just a harder guy to make trade talk fun over compared to others because there is probably a 95% chance I'll have never heard of his return. He'll get something, either a reclamation project or a projectable player with high uncertainty, and those trades can sometimes strike gold. But to be entertained by trade talk with him is mostly just scanning random teams top 12-20 players for a trait you like. Why trade guys who have no trade value? Bodies? Sox need a couple closer candidates this year and next or they'll win even fewer than Hawk's coveted 60 games. Nate Jones is NO CLOSER. I don't think the draftniks want the sox to lose 115 games but maybe they do.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
I think personally it's time for an official warning. We tell China, Russia, North Korea and South Korea that if there is one more missile test, we will be dropping 3 bombs on North Korea, hopefully where Kim Jon Un is residing. We tell S. Korea to take the necessary precautions. We tell Americans in South Korea it might be wise to get the hell out of there. We cannot risk this any more. The last bomb can reach U.S. soil. We have not developed technology apparently to blow up the bomb in the sky. What else can we do? War sucks but if China and Russia won't get him to stop this nuclear bulls***, we have to try to take out the North Korean president. Otherwise he will lob a nuke at Alaska and eventually our mainland. Do you agree?? They are leaving us with no options.

July 5th Game Thread: White Sox at Oakland A's
QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 05:28 AM) 1-5 against oakland... a good thing i guess... It's great if you want your team to be considered the laughing stock of baseball, the biggest joke of a franchise in the AL. San Diego is worse in the NL.

1000 more people shot in Chicago vs same time last year
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 07:41 PM) Nope. Are you as worried about the 15 other major cities that are more violent or nah>? Chicago better get a better PR department if it's actually one of the safer cities. Because Chicago is the city that is getting the mention as THE most violent city. Trump just sent in 100 experts or something like that to help cure the problem.

Todd and Melky
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:36 AM) Very likely it won't be anyone near top 10 Exactly. If you were fan of a buyer, would you accept your team acquiring Melky Cabrera? There's absolutely no reason to acquire him. He'll kill a contender defensively and he's an average hitter. He's not exactly fast either.
