  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) How Trump is lowering the debate expectations https://www.google.com/amp/www.vanityfair.c...android-verizon Short of physically assaulting her, he'll probably be declared the winner. Similar to the first debate last time where Obama was caught off guard by Romney just lying constantly ands inventing new policy positions on the fly. No way. There will not be one news organization declaring Donald the winner. Maybe Hannity. Did you read the NY Times embarrassing endorsement today? They are all coming. This news organization should be ashamed of itself making her look so Presidential. Cmon. We have two horrendous choices and the NY Times saying Hillary deserves this job is sad. Don't pretend we have a good candidate this year. Trump is a Chump, no doubt. No question. Of course he is. But Hillary is a proven fibber (I won't call her a liar) and one who stretches the truth; also a very very horrible speaker/leader and as elitist as Mr. Trump. And yet the NY Times endorses her in a glowing piece? Sad. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/25/opinion/...ident.html?_r=0
  2. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 07:58 PM) As a fan of this team, I get embarrassed watching stupid bunts, bad lineup construction, an abject lack of command and control over his clubhouse, poor understanding of bullpen leverage, and other managerial failures all leading to a cavalcade of craptacular performances year after year. That aside, if in fact Robin "knows the game," he has a poor way to demonstrate his knowledge. If he had any integrity about himself, he would have resigned at least a year ago. Insofar as his so-called "experience," I'll agree that KW set him up to fail by hiring him in the first place. But, one would anticipate that Ventura would have made some degree of improvement in his duties as manager. I struggle to think of one area in which Ventura has improved. His lineups lack imagination and understanding, his best players run roughshod over him. So exactly how has "experience" taught Ventura anything? How has he gotten any better at his job? Ventura was one of my favorite SOX players of all time, but it was moronic to hire him and to retain him. He's a joke of a manager and honestly, a coward to not resign. Great post. First regarding the Rollins stimulus. That was difficult because the Sox were winning big despite him sucking. It's hard to remember that far back when we actually had a great team (at 23-10 the Sox looked very sharp and they actually were winning on the road) and it would have been difficult to get rid of Rollins. Cmon at that point even though Rollins sucked, the team looked like it was fulfilling the cliche -- "winners" and/or grinders like Lawrie and Rollins were helping the team win. The guys who won the LaRoche battle were leading us to victory! And a likely division title. As far as being "embarrassed," me too in terms of blowing 7 run leads in the ninth inning, doing crazy stuff no other team seems to do. Stupid bunts? You win there. He'll never learn our guys CANNOT bunt. Bad lineup construction: I'd agree. Robin sucks there too. Control over clubhouse? I'd agree. The team has a very poor approach to baseball games. No life. No pride. Zombies. Poor understanding of bullpen: I'd agree again, though Mr. Grumpy, Cooper, probably has some input there. Cooper and Robin are as bad a duo as Seals and Croft. Break them up. Get rid of them both. I do, however, stand by my comment that Robin knows the game. I think he does. I have no idea why he's made some of the decisions he's made, but a lot of this is purely having players suck. He didn't sign Albers. He doesn't make Nate or Jennings or Robertson look great one night, horses*** the next. He needn't take the blame for a starting rotation that is thorougly inconsistent. My point is: Robin is no Bevington. Robin does deserve another managing job somewhere after the experience he's gained here.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) I'm not mad, I'm irritated because you are dense about it. Give me one good reason that either of these guys would come out of retirement to manage the Sox,without saying money or because you want them to Because at one point he was a White Sox. His guy is LaRussa. It may be his dream job. Go get him and give Jimmy an offer he can't refuse.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) Jesus Christ,Greg, when are you going to understand that Leyland and LaRussa are retired? Why get mad? Some guys return when asked. Leyland might miss it. The man is still working. He's managing team USA. HIRE HIM. Money talks. Give him a player-type contract. 10-12 million per annum. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/ml...-life/20138431/ http://motorcitybengals.com/2016/09/22/det...ut-jim-leyland/
  5. Uh oh, Hillary has started a firestorm. She is bringing Mark Cuban to the debate. So Trump now has to figure out who to bring to embarrass Hillary. Maybe Lewinsky or Flowers? http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/24/politics/don...bate/index.html
  6. I know this isn't like college sports where you'd like to get a new coach in place right away, but ... It'd be nice to name Renteria or Alomar a day or two at the end of the season if that's who they think is the answer to our problems. Why interview five guys (Alomar, Martinez, Sandberg, Ozzie, AJ or Konerko)? You either know who you want or keep Robin. Don't do the dumb interview process. There must be a guy our management group thinks is a budding star (who is not a former Sox player). Just name that guy within a couple days. Only caveat is if you need time to convince a Leyland to return. Cmon, no interviews with mediocre candidates. Just name the guy you think is the next Maddon/Francona and do it quickly.
  7. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) The desiccated remains Jimmy Rollins as DH this year? Yep, RV gave that to us. Using Rollins' and his craptacular .483 OPS vs RHP over and over again? Yep, we saw that, too. Keeping Abreu "locked in" at 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in the lineup while his .657 OPS held up the entire lineup early on this season? Check. How about Matt Albers as a high-leverage reliever? I bet you guys loved that, too. And we could go on and on with mind-numbing idiocy by a guy who supposedly "knows the game," yet has made little to no improvement as a manager over his tenure. Again, I AGREE that RV needed better players in the roster. But, the superior managerial mind uses whatever players he has to better effect. Have we seen that with RV here? I'm not too sure. In any case, Bevington may have been the worse manager, but the comparison between he and RV is much closer than you think. Thing is, Robin wasn't the only guy who was excited about Rollins. Once again our people got fooled by spring training as if it means anything. He hit over .300 and Hawk was going crazy about Rollins and the Hall of Fame, etc. It actually looked like a reasonable acquisition to replace Lexi. He also was getting credit for our fast start cause of his experience and clubhouse presence. Same with Albers. Albers had that good first month as well. The only guy everybody gave up on early was Danks. Yeah, batting Abreu where he did was dumb and Rollins should have been ninth every game but again, bevington was so bad he was the embarrassment of baseball. I feel Robin actually knows the game and right now might be a good choice for some other team. Hell, he's now got experience. But he has to go. His Sox teams need to learn how to win. You'd think they had exorcised all demons at 23-10 but nooooooooo. Again, I'm not a supporter. I give Robin a 3 out of 10 for his body of work with the Sox. A 3 for this season as well.
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) and players Yeah the players. I forget them cause they make so much money and frankly do not care IMO.
  9. Brother Rice pounds Providence, scoring over 40 again. Would be nice to beat Mt. Carmel.
  10. Renting the Cell out for concerts is a dumb idea. Sox must need the money.
  11. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 04:21 AM) I think that would make some sense but I sense that KW would not want him back and that Hahn would feel challenged by Ozzie, AJ or any strong personality in the Manager's position. Since putting fans in the seats generates income which helps the team, why not pick Ozzie, AJ or someone who could light a fire under this team? Ozzie would have to agree to a one-year deal. Too risky. It'd be insane to name him manager, but I would love it.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 03:17 AM) 4-22 in Cle, Det, KC this year That's basically going winless on the road. Four measley wins. LOL. Good job, Robin, Coop and the rest of you coaches and scouts.
  13. LOL at Sox again vs. Central. Gonzalez and jennings sucked tonight. They are not stars, folks. They get a little too much praise on this site, IMO. Nine games left in Robin era.
  14. Suspect on the loose. Four shot and killed in mall in state of Washington. Sickening. Again, the lunatic is on the loose. The victims got shot in a Macy's. Our country leaders, citizens, everyone in the USA should be embarrassed. You can't go to a mall on a Friday night without a good chance you'll take a bullet. Sad. Is it like this in other countries?????? Let's get our act together.
  15. Ugh. More games against Central Division teams. Robin's Sox career is so close to over. I wonder what he'll do next year? I'd think he has a lot of friends in baseball. Maybe bench coach for a good team?
  16. I'll put this in the Democrat thread cause we know who is gonna be deemed winner of the debates. Damn ... debate season is upon us. This is going to be so depressing. Hillary, or Lying Hillary or Crooked Hillary as we Hillary haters tend to call her, is going to be deemed runaway winner of the first debate and it will bother me. This is part of what I've been talking about. The media rally around the Democratic candidate when it matters -- i.e. determining winner of debates. Hillary needs to humble Trump and win and the media will make sure she is deemed knockout winner. Get ready folks, cause it's coming. Coronation talk. They will say Hillary was logical, laid out more specific plans than Trump, finally showed her sweet, caring side, yet showed she can be tough in talking about Putin. Meanwhile Trump will be reamed for trying to be a bully and failing. Hillary appearing "presidential" will be a common phrase while Trump will be called a loudmouth bully fit for corrupt business meetings but not the Presidency. All I would ask is a fair shake from the debate graders, but that will not happen. Trump should never have agreed to a debate with Hillary when all the media want Hillary. Tell me I'm wrong ... who out there would possibly give Trump a fair shake in a head to head debate battle against beloved Democrat Hillary? the result of all this? Just like after the convention, she gets a huge jump in the polls. Remember after the conventions Trump was so far behind. Now he's caught up again. But after this barrage of positive press, it's all gonna be over. Hillary, the debate winner, is your next runaway winner of the Presidency of the United States.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 10:25 PM) It may or may not be murder, but you can't tell a damn thing on that video. The sound is good, that is helpful. But visually, you can barely even see the guy who got shot OR the cops. This is more useful as audio than video. The thing that is standing out to me about this case is the brain injury. That could explain a lot. Also just adds to the sadness of this whole thing. Good post. Like I said earlier, cops in these incidents either are pure evil or some of the dumbest individuals alive. They can't come up with suitable solutions that don't involve killing people. They frankly should be ashamed of themselves. And like I said if they are evil, in this Charlotte case it's haunting them cause all it's done is cause a dozen or more of their fellow police to suffer injuries so far with the rioters throwing s*** at the cops.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 08:24 PM) White chick at my school: Guys it's easy to not got killed by police, just comply with their orders." White privilege at its finest. It seems to me cops don't value lives of the people they serve. In the Charlotte murder, if they valued life, they would not have been in this guy's face watching his every move and looking for the right moment to kill him. They would have gone back to the woman who was screaming at the cops to not kill him and had her negotiate. The cops could have taken cover and waited the guy out by the car. He wasn't going anywhere. Why do these situations escalate so quickly to where they go ahead and murder the guy who has done nothing wrong except not comply completely? Cops don't value lives. How else can you explain them pulling the trigger so quick? That woman was screaming the guy didn't have a gun. s***, after they killed him, why didn't they kill her too? She approached in menacing fashion while filming. Why not think things out and consider their options. They could have negotiated or waited the guy out and seen he didnt have a gun. But noooooo ... they shoot the guy and end the life of somebody who had no gun. Cops are doing a very poor job and ultimately hurting themselves. 10 or more cops were hurt the first night of riots in Charlotte. There would be peace if they made better decisions regarding the harmless guy they killed!
  19. This release of the video in Charlotte is horrifying. This is murder. In cold blood. Look the cops made the decision to shoot this guy. They must pay. Throw them all in jail for the rest of their lives. How can you watch this video and not be disgusted with cops??? They didn't need to murder this guy. My gawd. In this case, I agree with the "f*** the police" chant. I am sick over this. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/23/us/charlotte...ideo/index.html
  20. Well, Cleveland got its division title after all. The last few years they were the pick of many. You get a very good manager like the one they have and you do ultimately rise to the top.
  21. QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) "I abhor this argument. I was called a s***ty Chicagoan and sore loser for not rooting for the Cubs last year. I couldn't believe the guys were serious when they were saying this stuff to me. I am South Side born and raised and while I don't pay the Cubs any extra attention than any big fan of of any other team but where I am from, we were raised like it was ar rivalry. We would never support them in the playoffs regardless of being from the city. I know everybody is all evolved now a days but I am competitive as can be as a person. I don't change allegiances like that on a whim. I'll never root for them and I'll never want good things for their fans." This x100. If there's one thing I am more tired of than the Cubs hype, it's this incredulous reaction I get from people when they learn I'm rooting against the Cubs. It's always some variation of "you're a bad Chicagoan" along with an underlying implication that you must be some sort of miserable and bitter person to, you know, root *against* a team. This is sports for god's sake. Rooting against teams is part of the fun. And this is Chicago sports. I'm 40, and I'm old enough to remember when it was more or less assumed that a Chicagoan "picked a team" and rooted against the other one. You know, "...the Go-Go White Sox and whoever plays the Cubs." That's the traditional way of approaching baseball in this city. This milquetoast "I root for everybody!" style is all well and good, but that is the departure from the norm, not the act of rooting against your city rival. (Yes, rival.) I expect nothing less from the Cubs fans when we're in the playoffs, and respect the ones who give as well as they get. Unfortunately most Cubs fans use their defense mechanism of making a big show about how little they care about the Sox, since their own self-perceived first-class status is all they've had since the Sox finally got their WS. I won't play that game. Go Mets/Giants/Nats/Dodgers. Excellent post. You really have to want the Cubs to lose if you are a Sox fan I think. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) Either way, something's gotta give. The constant agony, wait 'til next year, it's gonna happen, flythew, Bartman, 1969, etc. stuff has to end. Please! No it doesn't have to end. If some team can knock off the Cubs this year, it could start a Detroit Tigers type spiral when it counts. Lose the big ones. It'd be nice to keep them out of the WS completely. I'm telling you if some team can figure a way to beat the Cubs it just might keep the ineptitude going. The Cubs are probably going to win, but it doesn't have to happen. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) 'We Got the Fire' is an anthem for Cubs' postseason. We got the goat is more like it. what a great post! QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) This is what annoys me the most. People that don't even pay attention to baseball (especially outside the Cubs) and never have, have latched on and just become insufferable. It's the Blackhawks 2010 all over again. I don't need you to be able to recite stats or discuss advance metrics, but don't try talking s*** to me as a Sox fan. I am 100% positive I am a more rabid baseball fan than you and I will talk you under the table if you bring that nonsense. I was at Wrigley 2 years ago for the Crosstown Classic, there was no one there. Please dont pretend like your fanbase isn't fairweather as f***. Small anecdote from another experience at Wrigley: some friends and I went to the final game of the 2012 Wrigley sweep Crosstown Classic. After the game, not only was I called a f***** by Cubs fans, but 2 tried starting a fight with my friend and I and some others were telling his girlfriend how ugly she was. Why should I ever want that fanbase to feel joy? There are bad eggs in every fanbase (The Sox have plenty), but that type of behavior is unacceptable in my belief and there is a decent amount of it in that fanbase. Not the first time I've experienced that sort of stuff there. Great post. Remember this. Cub fans hate the Sox and wanted us to lose in 05. For sure they did not support the Sox. f*** the Cubs. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) I always want them to fricken lose. But I can tell you what; if they win, I will be enjoying the party that will ensue afterwards. Terrible post. Terrible. I guess you could pretend to be happy if it gets you free beer or helps you pick up women but cmon. You always want them to lose but are gonna celebrate them winning? Ugh. Awful post.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) WTF does the highlighted mean? "Robin is not a buffoon. He just isn't a very good manager." That means Robin is not a clown, somebody to be mocked, somebody who embarrasses the franchise with his ineptitude like a Bevington. Like I said, Robin is an OK manager. He just overall, in the big picture, blows. Maybe if he had better talent he'd be the next Lasorda. But as it stands, he is horrible. Way too many meltdown losses in his career. Way too many bad trends on the team. The record vs. the Central, inability to bunt, horrible bullpen and bullpen decisions, ridiculous play right after the all star break normally burying any hope we had, a few road trips of total ineptitude. All that kinda stuff. Bevington as I wrote was simply in over his head. Robin is not. Bevington was a clown.
  23. The White Sox the last 10 years or so do seem to win only on the occasions we blast 3 or more homers and get the requisite strong pitching. You are right in that we need home run hitters. HOWEVER ... there is no power in baseball anymore, so we're gonna have to get used to this. We still have one guy and one only who can hit A LOT of home runs. That's Frazier.
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 12:03 AM) Can't they just protest peacefully which I support? Why do they always have to loot and tear up neighborhoods, same thing every time. License to steal 101. They have been peaceful in Tulsa.
  25. The protesters are back on a Charlotte highway. This is where I draw the line and say, "Arrest them all." OK ... every protester knows it is very very wrong and dangerous to be out protesting on a highway where the speed limit is 70. They are doing this pure and simply to cause trouble. Lock them up. They deserve to be charged and convicted of a crime. There's no reason to be out on the highway. Protest in the city until curfew hits all you want. The second you break a window. The second you shake a car or jump on the hood of a car, bye bye. You are going to jail! p.s.people throwing rocks off overpasses at cars ... not cool. How bout attempted murder charges there??
