Where the hell did that writer get the story Robin was returning? Did Robin tell the Sox he didn't want to return? Or did that first reporter just screw up the story?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) I love that I can hear the stadium from my back porch every friday night. what stadium? -
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Dump Shields however possible (which means just paying him to go away) Retain M. Gonzalez Trade Q and Robertson to Boston for Travis Shaw, Eduardo Rodriguez, Rafael Devers, Luis Alexander Basabe, Michael Kopech, and Blake Swihart I think a trade like this works out great in our favor. There's no question in my mind that we need to trade at least 1 of Sale or Q to rebuild an organization that obviously doesn't have enough talent. A trade like this would add 3 very young and talented prospects into the system to develop while also adding Shaw and Rodriguez to the majors roster as young pieces to build on. Swihart being the wildcard to take a shot on as I'm sure Boston wants him gone. This also adds some payroll flexibility by forcing Boston to take on Robertson's contract as well. I'm sure there will be some outcry because I'm not getting 1 of Boston's big name prospects but I don't think we can sacrifice quantity for 1 big name like Bennitendi or Moncada that will hurt the overall package we can get back. Free Agent Signings Nick Hundley Michael Saunders Jeremy Hellickson -Hundley is another shot at adding a vet to stabilize the C position for now, could be 1 of several names on the FA list if you don't like Hundley -Saunders is talented and relatively young still. Can play good OF D and adds pop as well. He won't be cheap but also won't break the bank. -Hellickson is a solid vet who can be a stable presence to the rotation. Will come back down to earth a little back in the AL but he should be above average and consistent. Again, shouldn't break the bank either. C- Hundley/Narvaez 1B- Shaw/Abreu 2B- Sally/Lawrie SS- Anderson 3B- Frazier LF- Saunders CF- Eaton RF- Melky/Tilson/Swihart DH- Abreu/Melky Eaton Melky Abreu Frazier Shaw Saunders Anderson Hundley Sally/Lawrie Tilson/Swihart battle it out for last roster spot on offense. Most likely Tilson because of D. SP- Sale SP- Rodon SP- Hellickson SP- Rodriguez SP- Gonzalez Middle Relief- Putnam Petricka Purke/whoever steps up as the 2nd lefty Kahnle/Ynoa Late Inning relief- Jennings Jones Fulmer Burdi Just put Fulmer in the pen and let him throw gas. He's not built to be a starter and his mechanics and stuff aren't built for it either. Fulmer/Jones/Burdi could make a dominant force in the pen to shorten games ala the Royals. Go ahead and tear it apart.... Your team for next season would be the worst in baseball. Horrible horrible bullpen and terrible middle relief. And a sub par rotation. We would be the worst team in the AL for sure.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) Yeah, EVERYTHING OWNERSHIP DOES IS WRONG, EVEN WHEN IT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT! Ownership got a lot of praise from the folks on soxtalk when the Sox won it in 05 and even for good seasons. I have been against the type of players we've been acquiring like Melky, Lawrie, Avila, Navarro, LaRoche, all those mediocre to lousy bullpen arms and the like. But this Robin thing makes no sense and fans have to be mad if they are fans. JR is either incredibly loyal to nice guy Robin or he's stubborn and wants to prove the Sox brass knew what they were doing when they recruited him to manage when he was doing nothing but enjoying retirement. It wouldn't even be mean to not extend Robin. His contract is running out. If Robin eventually gets us to the playoffs a lot of us will be happy to eat our words. But right now your post is misguided. We have the right to complain about the demise of the Sox with no apparent plan. I think deep down even Hawk would tell you Robin doesn't have what it takes to manage. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 12:02 AM) 8 weeks out? Welcome to the era of the injury for anybody taller than 6-5. Players play year-round. It's bound to break those bones in the feet at some point. Those knees get awfully brittle as well from all the over-use. Look people. Kids should play several sports, but instead they specialize and that means year-round pounding on the knees and feet. Oh for the days when kids played football in the fall, then basketball, then baseball. Now it's AAU, baby.

Anybody getting bored with Ohio State and Alabama dominance? How do they do it every single year? And b.) Miles should have left LSU on his own after last season or the year before. The cliche hit poor Les. Been there 10 years so people with $$$$ get very very tired of you if you are not winning national championships. Good luck to LSU. Their new coach won't do any better, but the cliche hit Les. It was time for him to go; the alums got tired of him. Little surprised OU alums aren't doing the same to Stoops. -
And as far as my support of Jesse, well, I don't mean to disparage the military. He was in the military as a matter of fact. But I feel like Hillary is a very bad candidate and Trump is a lol, cmon you gotta be kidding candidate. Gary Johnson doesn't make me feel great about his leading the USA so that leaves Jesse. WHy not vote for him? It's my right.
-
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 12:40 AM) I don't know that I've seen evidence of you disparaging both top candidates in the same manner, but that's your right. You seem to be a little more aggressive when it comes to HC. I also don't see evidence that you "learn" from things others post. Also your right. You often acknowledge a good point made that is in opposition to one of your posts, which is fairly uncommon in this forum, but then you go right back to posting the same things. On another topic of sorts, I wonder how you can justify saying that you are going to vote for Jesse Ventura, who, last I checked, isn't running. That seems like you are not taking your right to vote seriously. That, to me, is a slap in the face of our military who have sacrificed for that right. Yet, you are so upset that football players are not honoring the National Anthem and flag properly because it is an affront to our military. I am a little more mean toward Hillary cause I despise her elitism and lying throughout the years. I feel like she's being coronated and being given a lifetime achievement award with the Presidency when I feel she'll be our worst ever. However I can't condone Trump. I mean, geez, I am college educated and I feel he is a.) not a good person. b.) a ruthless businessman. c.) will never be able to lead others because when you are that rich you are out for YOURSELF (just like rich Hillary). QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 03:44 AM) You post worthless links to right-wing talking heads and examples and ignore empirical evidence when presented to you. Cmon. That's unfair. I link a lot of people and listen to all the heavy hitters. I don't ignore things presented to me. Most things don't change my opinion, however. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 04:34 AM) This. You don't engage in any sort of discussion, Greg. You make a statement, usually centered around what you heard on Hannity or what Rush said on some conservative talk show, claim XYZ, then members respond to what you say....and you go dark. You say nothing. THAT'S why people feel the way they do about your posts. I disagree that I 'go dark.'

Now I see what u mean about Brian Badke's coaching. Rice led 14-7 and had the ball 4th and 1 at the 20 yard line or so. They had the QB go under center even though they never do that and not only did the QB get no surge the center got hurt right before half. Carmel took the ball 80 yards and scored and its 14-14 at the break. I think I'd have kicked the field goal since Rice has a good kicker. We shall see if Rice has good halftime adjustments like they've had in the other games. UPDATE: Rice won 49-42 in a thriller. Rice's good running back got injured and was limping badly in the handshake line. It was a great high school game. Rice's defense did reek on this particular night, but did get two stops late. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 01:28 AM) It's fine, we'll just send more students from here in China to pay the exponentially increasing international student fees. Weird thing, I've never had a student in a decade mentioning a desire to go to Mizzou. The Big Ten is really doing a much better marketing job...although obviously having NW, Michigan, Illinois, etc., helps to lift the overall profile of conference schools. Purdue, Penn State and Iowa have a ton of Asian students now as well. How is Kansas doing recruiting? Nonexistent?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) The latest Polls Plus has greg775 down 3% to 97% for people who want to see him keep posting in this thread. I mean, SERIOUSLY YOU PROVIDE NOTHING OF SUBSTINANCE. How can you say that? I quote different announcers/broadcasters/shows; I link to a lot of articles; I express my opinions about both candidates whom I dislike. How can you say I provide nothing of substance when I link articles? Just cause I guess I have opinions different from yours I must be worthless poster in your eyes. Again ... I post links and examples.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 27, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Greg with a home win Friday, the last week of the season could pit 8-0 Loyola v 8-0 Rice at Rice......Loyola does not travel well......of course Rice has to get past Carmel and Rita neither of which are what they used to be. If the Rice QB continues playing like he has, they could be the best team in the state along with HF, Loyola and LWE. That Lockport conference is an absolute beast. The CCL Blue gets a lot of recognition but other than Rice and Loyola the other teams make their noise in the lower classes of the playoffs. There is a huge difference between 6A and 8A in the state playoffs. Nice post. Quick everybody will Rice beat Carmel tonight? Give me a score BEFORE the game. -
Can you imagine how bad KC would have been this season if Chicago and Minnie had just played .500 ball vs. the Hosmers?

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) I doubt the Cubs care one bit about the Sox right now. Also, no way they could arrange the move this quickly with the Nightengale tweet a few hours ago. Exactly. Just as in 05 we didn't care about the Cubs at all. There's no way in hell the Cubs care one iota about the Sox. The Sox are a total joke right now, a nonfactor in a division they should be dominating. The Cubs have $$$, they have youth, they are looking at domination for at least 8-10 years. Don't for a second believe they even know there's a team on the south side right now. Sox blew their chance to own the city. Somehow the Sox have to get it back now and it WILL NOT be easy.

Does anybody else hate the word "lozenge?" I think it should be banned from the language. I prefer the Chicago way of saying it. "I'm going to buy some cough drops. Does anybody have a cough drop?" Anyhow I despise Hillary but this story on her coughing is ridiculous. ... http://www.theamericanmirror.com/video-hil...f-coughing-fit/ Lozenge as a word ... yay or nay?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/news/alicia-machado-i...-162627092.html Wonder if anyone ever had Alicia Machado as the one name that would bring Trump's campaign down? Limbaugh made a great point today. Wolf Blitzer would NEVER EVER have mentioned something about Bill Clinton's indiscretions but he goes after Trump on this today as a gift to Hillary. Look ... Trump needs to all out attack the Clintons now. This is ridiculous. Everybody's jumping on Trump over Alicia. It's time Trump attacks the Clinton family about all of Bill's transgressions and Hillary's alleged making life hell on those who cheated with Bill. Limbaugh had some good points today about this issue. Limbaugh especially attacked Wolf.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 04:45 AM) Why laugh. You can't have students shouting the N word at people without grave repercussions, meaning enrollment declines of monumental proportions. People have to start behaving.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
greg775 replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've been thinking more about this. It's impossible to bring Robin back. How in the hell are the Sox salespeople going to sell ANY season tickets. You can't stay status quo. Our team is too s***ty to stay status quo. -
Official 2016 Soxtalk White Sox win total prediction thread
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I guess I didn't predict. I can't believe how many people were so wrong, thinking we'd be good. Well, you guys that thought we'd have a good record probably were counting on LaRoche being on the team. Kidding. -
USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
greg775 replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Back to the topic ... Maybe the Sox have decided there's nobody exciting available out there. Maybe if the Yankees flop in the playoffs they'll fire their manager and we can get him in a year. Let's face it ... If the Sox can only get somebody like a Martinez or Alomar, why bother? That's what they may be thinking. Robin is a poor manager, sure, but why hire some guy who will likely fail and we'd have to give him at least 3 year contract. Until a good one becomes available we keep Robin. Not saying it's right but it may be the issue here. I do wish Robin would work on his deficiencies. Cmon Robin, the four wins on the road vs. the Central HAS to be addressed. The Sox have some decent players. We shouldn't be THIS bad every year. Don't mistake this post. I want Robin gone, but I'm just saying the people available may suck. -
Trouble in Columbia, Mo. A fraternity is suspended cause some members screamed racial insults and got caught doing it on tape. The N word. Seriously ... how can any white person yell that at people? Where do college students develop such hatred? I'm like all of you. I don't look at color ... at all. Why do some people hate their fellow human beings just cause of color?? Sickening. I wonder if Mizzou will still exist in a couple years at this rate.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
greg775 replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Does anybody on soxtalk agree with the move to keep Robin? Does anybody think Robin is capable of fixing the recurring problems prevalent in his Sox teams? I love Robin Ventura and would love in a perfect world for him to return and lead us to pennants. I just don't see logically how he can reverse these areas of s***tiness that plague his teams. -
So a teenager has a gun and shoots a few people at a school. How wonderful. Very very sad stuff here. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/28/us/south-car...ting/index.html

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) Here's the thing Greg, I get what you are saying, but men in power only want one thing. Power. If there's no North Korea, there's no power. He is "showing his power" by conducting these tests and pushing the boundaries. His best ally is the us vs. the World scenario. Yes but what about my scenario. Let's say he's told his power is about to be gone. There are N. Koreans outside his mansion and they ARE going to kill him. Doesn't he wanna go down in the history books as the guy who nuked Seoul and started the end of the world?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 12:02 AM) Here ya go, greg Just a few pesky statistics to prove we live in the safest time in the history of human kind. Well I guess you guys are right. Even though it seems very very dangerous. Sad that there was a shooting at a school today.
