Police keep killing black people
This release of the video in Charlotte is horrifying. This is murder. In cold blood. Look the cops made the decision to shoot this guy. They must pay. Throw them all in jail for the rest of their lives. How can you watch this video and not be disgusted with cops??? They didn't need to murder this guy. My gawd. In this case, I agree with the "f*** the police" chant. I am sick over this. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/23/us/charlotte...ideo/index.html

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
Well, Cleveland got its division title after all. The last few years they were the pick of many. You get a very good manager like the one they have and you do ultimately rise to the top.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) "I abhor this argument. I was called a s***ty Chicagoan and sore loser for not rooting for the Cubs last year. I couldn't believe the guys were serious when they were saying this stuff to me. I am South Side born and raised and while I don't pay the Cubs any extra attention than any big fan of of any other team but where I am from, we were raised like it was ar rivalry. We would never support them in the playoffs regardless of being from the city. I know everybody is all evolved now a days but I am competitive as can be as a person. I don't change allegiances like that on a whim. I'll never root for them and I'll never want good things for their fans." This x100. If there's one thing I am more tired of than the Cubs hype, it's this incredulous reaction I get from people when they learn I'm rooting against the Cubs. It's always some variation of "you're a bad Chicagoan" along with an underlying implication that you must be some sort of miserable and bitter person to, you know, root *against* a team. This is sports for god's sake. Rooting against teams is part of the fun. And this is Chicago sports. I'm 40, and I'm old enough to remember when it was more or less assumed that a Chicagoan "picked a team" and rooted against the other one. You know, "...the Go-Go White Sox and whoever plays the Cubs." That's the traditional way of approaching baseball in this city. This milquetoast "I root for everybody!" style is all well and good, but that is the departure from the norm, not the act of rooting against your city rival. (Yes, rival.) I expect nothing less from the Cubs fans when we're in the playoffs, and respect the ones who give as well as they get. Unfortunately most Cubs fans use their defense mechanism of making a big show about how little they care about the Sox, since their own self-perceived first-class status is all they've had since the Sox finally got their WS. I won't play that game. Go Mets/Giants/Nats/Dodgers. Excellent post. You really have to want the Cubs to lose if you are a Sox fan I think. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) Either way, something's gotta give. The constant agony, wait 'til next year, it's gonna happen, flythew, Bartman, 1969, etc. stuff has to end. Please! No it doesn't have to end. If some team can knock off the Cubs this year, it could start a Detroit Tigers type spiral when it counts. Lose the big ones. It'd be nice to keep them out of the WS completely. I'm telling you if some team can figure a way to beat the Cubs it just might keep the ineptitude going. The Cubs are probably going to win, but it doesn't have to happen. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) 'We Got the Fire' is an anthem for Cubs' postseason. We got the goat is more like it. what a great post! QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) This is what annoys me the most. People that don't even pay attention to baseball (especially outside the Cubs) and never have, have latched on and just become insufferable. It's the Blackhawks 2010 all over again. I don't need you to be able to recite stats or discuss advance metrics, but don't try talking s*** to me as a Sox fan. I am 100% positive I am a more rabid baseball fan than you and I will talk you under the table if you bring that nonsense. I was at Wrigley 2 years ago for the Crosstown Classic, there was no one there. Please dont pretend like your fanbase isn't fairweather as f***. Small anecdote from another experience at Wrigley: some friends and I went to the final game of the 2012 Wrigley sweep Crosstown Classic. After the game, not only was I called a f***** by Cubs fans, but 2 tried starting a fight with my friend and I and some others were telling his girlfriend how ugly she was. Why should I ever want that fanbase to feel joy? There are bad eggs in every fanbase (The Sox have plenty), but that type of behavior is unacceptable in my belief and there is a decent amount of it in that fanbase. Not the first time I've experienced that sort of stuff there. Great post. Remember this. Cub fans hate the Sox and wanted us to lose in 05. For sure they did not support the Sox. f*** the Cubs. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) I always want them to fricken lose. But I can tell you what; if they win, I will be enjoying the party that will ensue afterwards. Terrible post. Terrible. I guess you could pretend to be happy if it gets you free beer or helps you pick up women but cmon. You always want them to lose but are gonna celebrate them winning? Ugh. Awful post.

Was Terry Bevington a better manager than Robin Ventura?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) WTF does the highlighted mean? "Robin is not a buffoon. He just isn't a very good manager." That means Robin is not a clown, somebody to be mocked, somebody who embarrasses the franchise with his ineptitude like a Bevington. Like I said, Robin is an OK manager. He just overall, in the big picture, blows. Maybe if he had better talent he'd be the next Lasorda. But as it stands, he is horrible. Way too many meltdown losses in his career. Way too many bad trends on the team. The record vs. the Central, inability to bunt, horrible bullpen and bullpen decisions, ridiculous play right after the all star break normally burying any hope we had, a few road trips of total ineptitude. All that kinda stuff. Bevington as I wrote was simply in over his head. Robin is not. Bevington was a clown.

The problem is simple: it's home runs and .OPS
The White Sox the last 10 years or so do seem to win only on the occasions we blast 3 or more homers and get the requisite strong pitching. You are right in that we need home run hitters. HOWEVER ... there is no power in baseball anymore, so we're gonna have to get used to this. We still have one guy and one only who can hit A LOT of home runs. That's Frazier.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 12:03 AM) Can't they just protest peacefully which I support? Why do they always have to loot and tear up neighborhoods, same thing every time. License to steal 101. They have been peaceful in Tulsa.

Police keep killing black people
The protesters are back on a Charlotte highway. This is where I draw the line and say, "Arrest them all." OK ... every protester knows it is very very wrong and dangerous to be out protesting on a highway where the speed limit is 70. They are doing this pure and simply to cause trouble. Lock them up. They deserve to be charged and convicted of a crime. There's no reason to be out on the highway. Protest in the city until curfew hits all you want. The second you break a window. The second you shake a car or jump on the hood of a car, bye bye. You are going to jail! p.s.people throwing rocks off overpasses at cars ... not cool. How bout attempted murder charges there??

Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 01:50 AM) I want Guillen and Cora back Awesome. I love Ozzie but even I admit it'd be a huge mistake to bring him back. He hasn't been doing anything really since the Marlins fired him. There's just no reason to go back to Ozzie. It's a big big world out there and there are many qualified individuals to manage/lead. There's a great chance Ozzie would get upset in April getting used to habits of his new players and probably lose the clubhouse very early. He doesn't know these guys and there is a very good chance it'd be an unmitigated disaster. That said, I reiterate I love Ozzie and OZZIE FOREVER!

Was Terry Bevington a better manager than Robin Ventura?
Robin is a much better manager. Robin is not a buffoon. He just isn't a very good manager. Bevington was a buffoon. Robin really blew it. He might have had a long career as a manager had he figured a way to build on that 23-10 start. At the first sign of adversity the team folded and Robin's laid back, even keel personality didn't help a bit. Since 23-10 this team has been historically bad.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) Animals. The protestors tackled a female TV reporter and sent her to the hospital. They tried to throw the photographer in a burning car. How many incidents have we had of late? These cops keep shooting people without f***ing guns. Shooting to kill. Whatever happened to tazing? I guess they don't work. Ridiculous. Charlotte has been pretty dangerous. This stuff is escalating and nobody seems to care. So the guy in the parking garage gets beat up by a mob and pants yanked off. Just great. Our world is in serious decline.

Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 22, 2016 -> 05:05 AM) The job is Konerko's if he wants it and lets Jerry know. It has been a long sleep walk this year and that is not what fans want to see next season. That is why I would go bold and hire AJ or Ozzie to wake these blokes up. AJ is underrated for his baseball IQ and his personality has been misconstrued by opponents who dislike his competitiveness. Ozzie has calmed down considerably and IMO would be welcomed back by most Sox fans. Konerko might be another Ventura, a nice guy and former Sox star that cannot manage his way out of a paper bag. Ozzie would be great. Won't happen. We've had the PC, calm Robin. We're not going back. No reason to even though I'd love it. There's no reason to gamble on him again. AJP would be a total disaster. Ridiculous idea. No experience. There's very little chance he'd succeed. Former players with no experience managing are out. No way the Sox will go that route again. I'd say 75 percent Renteria. Maybe 10 percent Cooper. 15 percent open it up and take forever with a job search that ends with Alomar. This is all moot if Buddy Bell wants it and tells JR he wants it. If he gets it I quit (probably). He can't manage. He's considered a genius by our higher ups, though, and thus is a danger. Could get it.

Police keep killing black people
All hell is breaking loose in Charlotte. The protestors have been ultra aggressive this time, storming a police station. I'm telling you. This aggressive cop bulls*** has to stop. It's leading to utter chaos. With the economy sooooo bad people have very little reason to behave themselves. When they upset they are starting to get really really violent. There must be an awful lot of bad cops out there. That's all I can think.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) You're saying that for black people to not be shot by cops that, they need black cops watching white cops? My bad. I'm calling for an emergency meeting called by Obama of all police stations in the country. Our cops are out of control and I want Obama to lecture them on it. I said out of each cop station I want one black cop, one white, one Asian, one Hispanic, etc. Four or five cops from every police station in the U.S. Rent a speedway and have a couple sessions of 150,000 cops per session.

Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox
I may be done with baseball if it's Buddy Bell. I think it'll be Renteria though. My choices ... a.) La Russa. b.) Leyland. c.) Whoever Maddon's bench coach is with the Cubs. d.) Gene Lamont.

Baseball in America on a Wednesday night Sept 21st
What a terrible game. Sox are back in the tank. Playing bad baseball, too. This should assure Robin's fate. Team is a disgrace.

The Anthem
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) Oh Greg. Any protest is really only meant to do one thing. Ignite discussions. The problem with this country is we can't even do that right. Instead of listening and wondering WHY Colin Kaepernick and others are protesting in this manner, we shout PATRIOTISM at the top of our lungs and grill him for it. Americans act on the act and not on the issues. That is wholly wrong in every way. My point is this...who cares who he is or what he does or how much he makes. Listen to him. Listen to Megan Rapinoe. Listen to Tommie Smith and John Carlos. Hear what they are saying. If you don't like athletes protesting, then do something about the underlying issue. I'm all about the military. If ONE military man or woman is upset then I am upset. I respect the hell outta the military. Colin is going about this in a very wrong way.

2016 Republican Thread
I'll put this in the Republican thread. My feelings as of today. I prefer Trump to be President over Hlllary. However, I will vote for neither. I will still write in Jesse Ventura. I still don't believe Trump has a chance. Cause this is all according to form. The stories recently are all about Trump having a chance. That's setting up ALL the stories about how Hillary won the debates by an overwhelming margin and she will run away with the election. You wait. Trump should refuse to debate. Cause all the Chris Matthews' of the world and ALL the pundits will claim she just plain KILLED Trump in head to head debate competition. No media pundit would EVER admit to Trump winning a debate. So the coronation is beginning folks, right after the first debate. You wait. She will be declared the big winner just as she was over Bernie.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) It is this example for why I am embarassed about the message we are sending to the young and impressionable children of our generation as it relates to this election. The manner / lack of civility that people are showing one another in this process and the way people are trying to get elected is just deplorable and sets the stage for people thinking this is okay (and yes, I understand it is each parents job to instill quality morals, etc, but man, if you can't look at the president of the US and say that they exhibit fine behaviors, then that is a really bad thing, imo). I don't agree with Obama, but I certainly don't have an issue to how he holds himself up in the public eye and I would be perfectly fine if my kids looked at him as an example of a mentor, etc, for how to speak / treat others, etc. I would have a problem if it was Trump and to be frank, while to a lesser extent (purely on this ground), issues with the other side as well. I don't think you have to worry about sending any messages to children. The Millenials have proven that parents are doing such a poor job of raising kids that they don't want to work, they are lazy and all the other things people say about Millenials. No need to worry about children. They have no chance cause since American adults certainly have proven they don't know how to raise kids. Participation trophies; coddling them, screaming at teachers who give Johnny and Julie a B instead of A, on and on.

Police keep killing black people
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) And who exactly will police the rest of the nation when every police officer is at this symposium? Or do we just hope that nobody notices all the police are gone today? Sorry I meant send one person of every ethnicity in every police force in the country. So lets say Oak Lawn would be represented by a white cop, a black cop, a Mexican cop, etc. 4-5 from every department.

2016 Republican Thread
Allegedly the gap is closing and Trump today has a chance. I wonder if he'll blow it in the debates? It's a hard call if u are Trump. If you attack Hillary mercilessly you could be seen as a bully. If I were Trump, I think I'd try to be as polite as possible. First of all what does he call her? Hillary? Madaam Secretary (of State)? Gov. Clinton? I think I'd always be polite and say, "With all due respect, people cannot trust you. With all due respect, people see you as a liar because of things you've said. With all due respect, you would be a disaster dealing with Putin and China." I think people will be turned off if he just screams, "Crooked Hillary" at her. Yet she kind of ate polite Bernie alive. Can she do the same to Trump? Bernie cost himself the nomination when he backed her on the email thing.

Police keep killing black people
I've been thinking about this. All these bad decisions by police are leading up to something major. The police need to cut this s*** out. Incident after incident is just asking for some kind of revolutionary violent protest, the likes of which we've probably never seen. There needs to be a national symposium with Obama demanding all police forces (yes every single police force in the USA) send representatives of all ethnic groups and get them together NOW. Hold it at a racetrack that seats 150,000 or more people. If we're talking 350,000 people then have two sessions or something.

The Anthem
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) Fine. You disagree with what he's doing and can't understand it. Fantastic. Nobody cares. People have clearly argued both sides in this thread and nobody's opinion is changing. Why it needs to be rehashed by quotes with some other famous person's opinion makes no sense to me. Well, that's the nature of arguing and arguing one's point. An effective tactic in arguing a point is citing what different people say. When I say the military is upset and many say the military is not upset, it's taught in debate to cite instances to prove your own point. I try to cite those instances. Also when I make a point, off times I begin to wonder if indeed I could be wrong. When I see somebody support my point, it fires me up and makes me want to cite such person.
