  1. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:04 AM) greg you are not going to change anyone's mind about who to vote for, so if that's your goal just give it up. Even after reading this? Hillary turns to her husband to run the economy. Even the staunchest Hillary supporters must realize she has shown a great weakness in making her husband in charge of such an important part of a president's workload. Please tell me you support her after this bombshell. https://www.yahoo.com/news/the-argument-cli...6289370166.html
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 20, 2016 -> 12:23 AM) If you can't get past anyone supporting Hillary then just stop asking people to defend her. You see how stupid that is right? Greg: Say 3 things good about Hillary!!!! Poster: Ok, 1...2...3... Greg: That's just a Hillary's supporters non-sense!!! I mean come on man, just stop posting about her already and let everyone have some sanity back in their lives. I'm trying to get people to see the light. p.s. I can't believe they closed the bathroom dilemma thread; can't adults on a message board discuss an issue that is ongoing?
  3. Thank goodness for Chris Sale. 9-0 are you bleeping me?? He did what Verlander's (in his prime) do. Put an end to slumps. Hopefully Sox can ride the Sale train into the Royals series. Not much offense tonight. Thanks, Mr. Sands. Was everybody freaking in the game thread for Robin to panic and get somebody up when Sale gave up the homer in the 8th?
  4. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) I really appreciate both of you guys taking the time to try and explain some of this stuff. Its great when we can have civil conversations about things we disagree on since there are a lot of very smart people on this forum. I have such huge concerns with all of the candidates on both sides. There are 2 other things Ive seen online that kind of blew my mind about both Sanders and Clinton but since it never picked up traction in the media I assumed it had to be fake to some degree. First for Hillary, another thing I read was that the Clinton Foundation pays female execs much lower than they pay men. I know that source is trash but it links to their IRS forms so who knows. Could that really be true? If it is it looks pretty bad imo. Then my issue with Bernie is I read he only paid 13.5% federal income taxes. I want to reiterate Im not claiming either of these as facts. Im just curious if someone who knows a little more about this stuff can shed some light on it. If either is true it really exposes hypocrisy in both of the core foundations of their campaigns. Trump has enough detractors but I did getting a kick out of hearing him say something along the lines of "You know I have the best math, people always tell me how great my math is." Great Presidential quote imo. I also appreciate their explaining some important issues. I appreciate both posts. QUOTE (Tony @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) Once again, ironic you can have such strong feelings about something, yet admit you haven't seen Hillary speak once in months. She had her chance. I can't listen/watch her. I know my limitations. I can't take it. Just as I now can't take Chris Matthews anymore. Cant' believe anybody would be a guest on his show.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) I'd ask if this is a joke, but you're completely irrational on this topic so who cares. Did you read the Baltimore story I posted? Hillary supporters/lovers just skip past all the crap she's done. Like Hillary, just laugh it off with one laugh. I never said Trump was Saint Nick. He may be a scumbag, but Bernie ... he's another story. He may have a shred of integrity.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) You can't ask people to defend Hillary all the time and then dismiss it out of hand when they do. I read his long reply and do appreciate it. Very well written and thought out, but it just screams "Hllary supporter" to me. I mean Elizabeth Warren was exposing something simple and important about Hillary. BTW I have resisted getting into the Christina Aguilara thing with Hillary out of respect to the woman's career. I'm not all evil even though I truly feel Hillary needs to just go away not be our most visible American the next 8 years for gosh sakes. Eight years!
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Just wanted to point out, I read this. I have had the times where I've sat down to write down my thoughts for this board. I enjoyed this and appreciated it, but that Elizabeth Warren thing is not an accurate representation of Hillary Clinton. When that bill was sent to Bill Clinton it was done so with a republican majority congress. He pocket vetoed it. Then Hillary Clinton was elected to the senate as part of a +4 pickup of the dems. The senate makeup was then 50/50 split, with a Republican president. The house was majority republican. At the time, democrats did not run the senate as it is today with requiring 60 votes, so the bankruptcy bill would have been reintroduced and signed. Clinton then used her influence to say she would sign the bill to make it bi-partisan, and watered down the bill to still allow single mothers to collect cihld payments evn after the father declares bankruptcy (seriously, this would have been part of the Republican bill). So yes, this is an example of how clinton rules. She saw a fight coming that would hurt people, and engaged in the fight to make it hurt as little as possible. I'm sure Sanders probably abstained and can keep his purity. But a whole of people are better off because she took this fight. Clinton's remarks on the floor: Senator Clinton: I rise today in support of final passage of S. 420, the Bankruptcy Reform Act. Many of my colleagues may remember that I was a strong critic of the bill that passed out of the 106th Congress. While we have yet to achieve the kind of bankruptcy reform I believe is possible, I have worked with a number of people to make improvements that bring us closer to our goals, particularly when it comes to child support. Women can now be assured that they can continue to collect child support payments after the child’s father has declared bankruptcy. The legislation makes child support the first priority during bankruptcy proceedings. This year, we have made more progress. The Senate agreed to include a revised version of Senator Schumer’s amendment to ensure that any debts resulting from any act of violence, intimidation, or threat would be nondischargeable. Earlier today, this body agreed to include a cap on the homestead exemption to ensure that wealthy debtors could not shield their wealth by purchasing a mansion in a state with no cap on homestead exemption. In addition, I was concerned about competing nondischargeable debt so I worked hard with Senator Boxer to ensure that more credit card debt can be erased so that women who use their credit cards for food, clothing and medical expenses in the 90 days before bankruptcy do not have to litigate each and every one of these expenses for the first $750. Let me be very clear—I will not vote for final passage of this bill if it comes back from conference if these kind of reforms are missing. I am voting for this legislation because it is a work in progress, and it is making progress towards reform. With all due respect, Hillary supporters always have a comeback when something cut-and-dried atrocious is pointed out about her. I stand by Warren's short, LOLish explanation of the Hillary flip flop. She is the most crooked candidate we've ever had IMO. Illini ... you say Hillary over walking disaster Trump. You forgot ... Bernie is still breathing. Just give it to Bernie this time and see how he does. Hillary and Trump are evil; at least Bernie isn't evil.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) The problem starts with the fan bases. If they didn't completely care only about winning, some of the other stuff might matter. Too many college teams are win blind to everything else... Cheating, recruiting problems, etc, don't matter as long as a team wins. They will defend or explain away their programs activities, and go pitbull after another. If people held their own schools to the highest standards, things would change, as schools would be forced into it. Instead money only follows winning, so guess where the incentive is? Very true. And by "fan bases" you must also mean the fat cat fans, the men/women with the money. They are building the luxury dorms and practice facilities and paying the coaches 4-6 million a year. If their team is winning, NOTHING else matters. Kansas has a couple former rowers I believe suing the school and state because of their assault/rape cases being handled in their minds improperly. Best way for a head coach to get fired is to take part in any coverup of crimes, especially crimes against women. That coach better be winning at an amazing clip, cause most football, men's basketball coaches have clauses in their contracts where they can get axed for improper behavior. If that coach isn't WILDLY popular, or very popular, he gawn after one of these crime coverup deals. If he's popular, you can bet they try to pay off the victims, do anything to wipe it under the rug.
  9. Is Ozzie still being paid by Marlins? He belongs in a MLB dugout as a bench coach or manager. How bout Fredi Gonzalez who everybody thought was so great? Fired. Ozzie has baseball in his blood. Once Marlins stop paying him he can join a team in some capacity. We know Ozzie loves money.
  10. Caulfield I don't understand your Rollins love. At least flip flop their roles. Give Saladino five games to every two from Rollins.
  11. I'd love for IlliniLaw and all Hillary supporters to read this article and tell me why you support Hillary Clinton. Please use examples in this story and try to refute them. Many say I have no reason to despise Hillary. What about articles like this? http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/o...0517-story.html
  12. Look. It's obvious we have a problem at catcher. Avila is horrible; Navarro is OK as a backup. So fix the problem now. We have a pretty decent team, but obviously it can win nothing without better catching. So trade a nobody for AJP. Release Avila and let AJ and Navarro catch/hit. If you don't want AJP, then target another team's backup, somebody who can hit .240 for gawdsakes and catch a halfway decent game. At the very least, quit playing Avila and catch Navarro til he runs out of gas. He should be catching 6 of 7 games a week. Catcher must improve or Sox are going nowhere. Have Coop work work work with Rodon. He must turn into a stellar No. 3. Have Coop work work work with Latos! He must be an average No. 4. Get rid of that current guy who is at No. 5 starter. Give Johnson one more start. Have a revolving door at 5; do something. Start playing Saladino way more than Rollins. If Saladino sucks, fine. Rollins is done, finished, kaput. If Anderson is ready, bring him up to split time with Saladino. But get rid of Rollins now. Finally, find room for Matt Davidson, even at DH splitting time with Avi there. Davidson is ready folks. Seven homers, 24 RBI, hitting .250. Comments??
  13. QUOTE (wizeguy57 @ May 19, 2016 -> 06:02 AM) This is why you don't go overboard after only 30 games. Positively or negatively. The Sox fans were talking playoffs and the the Tiger and Royal fans were talking wtf is going on. You don't get a true reading on any team until at least 50 games in. You can only hide your weaknesses for so long. Very true. We were getting close to becoming consistent winners, though. Texas put an end to that by throttling the bullpen. Little surprised coming home to face Houston we folded like this. We haven't had a lot of home games. Lack of home runs continues to hurt the Sox. Frazier has been sick, but we really need Frazier and Abreu to bash tons of home runs. I don't think anybody else has the power to hit more than 10. Maybe Lawrie can hit 15.
  14. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 18, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) If I'm baseball, I want the Cubs to win the World Series ASAP while their guys are young. The media surrounding that franchise would be huge for the sport. If the Cubs had a "dynasty", it would be like the Blackhawks in the NHL magnified tenfold. Good comparison to the Blackhawks. I would think with the $$$ they are spending and willing to spend and the current talent assembled, Cubs probably are going to win three WS in the next 5-6 years. If they don't win it this year, then there truly is a jinx. Team is head and shoulders better than anybody. I was hopeful the Sox would have this dynamite pitching staff all year and stifle Cubs in WS. However it's all come down to earth like a boulder thrown off a 10 story building. Our pitching ain't anything special after all.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 19, 2016 -> 12:47 AM) Baylor is proving your point I wish college sports presidents weren't puppets and would clean up college sports. A good start would be to take away all athletic scholarships for four years and just see what athletes want to play for what schools. I know ... too late to do something like that. ESPN and the other networks would cry bloody murder; fatcat alums who build the practice gyms and renovate the football stadiums and build the luxury dorms would cry bloody murder. I'd do it like the Ivy League ... no athletic scholarships, none. Let the pros be the pros. As far as scandals go, I would say the Penn State situation was the worst one of all time by far. Those poor victims of the defensive coordinator. Sick and sad. I'm sure he's paying the price in prison.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 18, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) They are getting Ben Simmons though, who I believe is a superstar. So they'll have 1 more superstar than the Bulls currently have giving them a better chance going forward. Bulls are in basketball hell. I'd like to see the Bulls trade up to get Jamal Murray. Don't know what it would take but aside form Ben Simmons, he is the guy I'd want for the Bulls. You can have Brandon Ingram. It's Murray who is the gem (along with Simmons). I still like the Thunder in five or six. Good job by the Warriors tonight, though, but as the Spurs proved in Game One vs. OKC, margin of victory means nothing. The OKC fans are crazy; GS in deep trouble still. Bet.The.House. Thunder to cover for sure in Game Three.
  17. greg775 replied to Jake's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't mind him stirring it up vs. KC if we get off to a bad start on Friday. If it's 4-0 Royals and that stiff, Gee, is mowing us down, I wouldn't mind Lawrie starting a fight or something. Anything but Royals sweeping us in the Cell.
  18. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:10 AM) The Royals is going to rip this team to shreds this weekend. You know it. The Moustakas return game Saturday is gonna piss me off beyond belief. He has a flair and pencil him in for two homers and five ribbies on Sat minimum. Why can't he sit a few more games?? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:22 AM) Putnam isn't close to being a "prospect" anymore...he's more of a journeyman veteran who seemingly has found a home in our bullpen but hasn't been AS effective as he was in 2014. He's fine for a "second unit" in the pen, but he's not currently the guy who can blow away guys (see Giles yesterday) and tends to pitch to more contact...which is fine as long as those sinkers and forkballs are hit at fielders and not elevated. Btw, your OKC obliteration of the Warriors isn't working out so well. I chose the wrong word on prospect. Sorry. I kinda meant (in my mind anyway) the candidate to be our best eighth inning guy now that Albers is throwing meat up there screaming "hit me." Not prospect but our best choice. I think he has more talent than Albers POTENTIALLY this season is what I was going to say. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:26 AM) To add insult to injury, it was Rajai Davis who tied the game for CLE, yikes...Kipnis just made a highlight reel play, 2 outs for the Reds and nobody on base. At any rate, Quintana vs. Dillon Gee strongly favors the Sox, Gonzalez vs. Duffy (on a pitch count) is a toss-up and then Rodon/Ventura could go either way. We miss Volquez/Kennedy entirely, so there's no excuse for not taking 2/3 against KC this weekend. KC is going to be on a bit of a high since they're back to .500, playing much better defense and Moustakas is returning on SAT. Damn the Moustakas game bothers me.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:25 AM) They cared way too much about saving the comp pick this past offseason Great point. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:34 AM) Rodon will be fine. It's the 4-5 that are scary bad We can't win with those 4-5, that's for sure. Only way we're going to make the playoffs is if our starters DOMINATE. Remember when we were dominating 1 through 4 with only Danks lousy? Sox are in big trouble. Like I said, what about the LaRoche haters? When are they gonna kick some clubhouse ass and get the team going? Sox look like patsies right now. Royals smelling blood this weekend. Only hope for us is their starters suck as well, but you know how the Sox generally look against lousy starters?
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:18 AM) There's something the Sox can do in the next week to prevent that. This is where the new blood, the LaRoche haters, have to do what it looked like they were gonna do: Be bad-asses and stir something up. I heard today the players in major league baseball have more to do with attitude of teams than the manager. Lawrie, Frazier, Rollins need to get these corpseballers (of late) fired up!!!! Just.Do.It.Leaders
  21. Sox doing a poor job of bouncing back after tough losses. Bad game tonight. A pessimist might say our starting pitching suddenly stinks with just two excellent starters and three so-so starters (at best). Obviously Rodon will be excellent some day. Bullpen, as has happened ever since Joe Morgan said it was the best in baseball, gets off to a red-hot start now looks average (cept for the lockdown closer). I'm hoping Putnam will continue putting up zeros cause in theory he's a better prospect than Albers IMO. Sox are catching the Royals at a bad time. This team blows right now.
  22. Central Division is very very weak this year. I'd expect 5-10 over .500 will win it.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Albers is getting in trouble because every pitch is on the same plane. Needs to do a better job of changing the eye level of the hitter It's time to quit using him so much. He's pitched himself out of that role for now. Gulp, use the other guys more.
  24. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ May 17, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) It's hilarious that there's even a controversy about traveling in the NBA. Yes, Westbrook traveled and dragged his pivot foot on that play. And he and everyone else does it the entire game. The traveling and dragging/moving/changing pivot foot makes the NBA borderline unwatchable for me. I don't even understand how you can play organized basketball your whole life and feel (in a physical-muscle memory way) like it's ok to travel. It feels so odd to me when I play to take an extra step. And pickling up or changing my pivot foot - out of the question. That's what the people I was with said immediately. A traveling controversy in NBA??? WTF. OKC is healthy; Adams has become a player; Kanter is useable. OKC in four, five no more than six! Bank it.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2016 -> 07:39 AM) Well, since we don't have any great internal candidates to replace him, Albers would probably be pushed back to the "second unit" with Petricka, Putnam and Jennings. Of course, that would leave the question of who can hold the lead in the 7th inning an open question. In all likelihood, they're going to have to trade for someone if it continues to linger as an issue. Personally, I think Albers is just a bit gassed. He doesn't seem to be in the greatest physical condition, he's an older/veteran player and he's been utilized a LOT by Ventura in the first quarter of the season. He SHOULD bounce back. It does seem his stuff isn't as crisp, not as much movement as before. They're unlikely to just DFA him at this point when he's been one of the major strengths of the team until the last 10 days or so. Our big three starters are going to need to go 7 consistently or we aren't winning anything. No playoffs again. Amazing that it's almost June already. My god the calendar flies by. It was just spring training.
