QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) And he tried for six years to work with an infantile legislative branch. He got Osama. He got everyone health care. Helped push the rights of LGTBQ individuals along. Greg, only reason people probably seem more divided than in the good ole' days is because we have the internet. But no, let's blame him for racism that he was the subject of for eight years. He was a pathetic president, but again, I do like him personally. Nothing against him. Sox fans are welcome in the White House. Race: College campuses are a total mess with protests. Rioting does not appear to be far off. Big cities are crime ridden and racial tension is huge. All under Obama who has shown zero leadership. Economy: Middle class has been decimated. All the wealth is controlled by the top 1 percent. Health care: Skyrocketing costs continue. His plan's implementation was a wreck with nothing but chaos. War on terror: Country gripped by fear with school shootings a common occurrence. Need I go on? The big question are we better off now than 8 years ago? LOL to that.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Obama got an astronomical amount done, especially when consider the embarrassment that he got for Congress. Oh My Gosh. You think Obama was a good president? The country is so divided now after his eight years. On race. Economy. Foreign affairs. Horrible, horrible president. But I do like him personally, his style. He's a bright, funny guy IMO an a Sox fan. HORRIBLE president though. My gosh.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2016 -> 05:57 AM) Greg, everyone probably "likes" or sympathizes (on the DEM side) with Sanders and what he's trying to accomplish, and what he represents. We also know realistically he's not well-equipped to be president because of his lack of foreign policy expertise (or interest)...and the fact that he doesn't have the first idea how he'd actually take power away from banks, as it's a complicated process involving Congress, the Constitution, the Federal Reserve and too many other entities to count. He also wants to give away too many free things (sure, free university sounds great until someone has to pay for it and students have to deal with the dilution in the quality of education)...but he hasn't proposed any method to pay for it. Nobody wants to touch the idea of reforming entitlements, privatization (because of all the stock market disasters over the last 30 years) and especially any type of tax hikes on those not in the Top 1%. As soon as leaders threaten to make American companies pay more in corporate taxes (or prevent off-shore havens), those companies will bluff about taking all their business out of the US...so they cave and give them TIF and every other public financing benefit to keep those jobs in their states/districts. I also don't believe he's open to negotiation or compromise on many of these issues, and that's just a reasonable stance to take politically if your goal is ever to accomplish anything. Finally, he went on his honeymoon in Russia in the heart of the Cold War. That will always be used or held against him. So, you're confusing Bernie "bashing" and Hillary "love" because neither one really exists. The majority of Democrats are not left-wing lunatics who want to burn down or destroy the country and its economic fabric. We wish Hillary would be more progressive and less "reactive." In the end, her prescriptions for change will also be small, bite-size ones that have 2/3rd's+ support but don't really lead to a change in the status quo or the fixing of our numerous infrastructure problems. I'm also pretty sure that a lot of Sanders supporters themselves would tell you they have no idea how he would maintain security in the world...other than some vague idea of the US not being the world's policeman and pulling back from lots of their military commitments/spending and being more isolationist (which is also more or less what Trump's been arguing, "prosperity at home (first)!") Excellent post! I appreciate you for the deep thoughts to consider. As far as my Hillary distaste ... you know, Obama is a likeable guy it appears. Funny, quick witted, has a personality it appears. Likes a good smoke with his cronies. But he couldn't get anything done except a controversial health care law. I am all in favor of having government pay for the people's health, yes I am, so I applaud Obama a tad for that. But back to Hillary ... if Obama, a pretty decent chap, can't get ANYTHING passed of note and really isn't much of a leader, how the hell is Hillary gonna get anything done with her style??? People in government are going to want to block EVERYTHING she proposes because of her horrific personality and elitism. It'll be an eight-year war so to speak with Congress blocking everything. I just picture her meetings, barking out orders left and right and being perhaps the most ornery U.S. leader in history. When I think of a president I think of a likeable leader, Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Reagan. When I think of somebody you would least think her personality would make a good president, I think of Hillary. That's why this board shocks me. I don't see how anybody could actually be fired up for Hillary. I realize what you say about Bernie may be it ... but I don't read a lot of "Yes I like Hillary but only because Bernie and Trump are worse!" You get this Hillary support and considering her past, her teetering on jail, her desire for personal $$$ for limited work (speeches?) I don't get it.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
Bet the farm on Okie City. OKC is so hot and so gelling it might not be a long series. If OKC steals Game Two, and it definitely could, this baby is going five maximum. I laugh at teams changing coaches. Scott Brooks had nothing to do with this vs. Billy Donovan. Adams and Kanter are physical presences and can grab rebounds. Collison and Ibaka were OK but these two guys are man mountains and make a big difference to go with a HEALTHY Durant and Westie. Amazing how those two guys being completely healthy with rebounders makes them unbeatable. OKC in five or six. Game two is not a lock for the Warriors. OKC is making a mockery of the regular season homecourt success of first the Spurs, now the Warriors. Funny how the NBA is thriving. First you've got the LeBron/Wade/Bosh show dominance. Then you get the teamwork of the Spurs. Then you get the emergency of Curry-mania and the Warriors. Now you've got the Durant/Westbrook show finally mature enough and healthy enough to win a title or two. AMAZING development is the Thunder.

Off day ruminations
My offday boredom has me bummed for the first time this season. Can't help but reflect on that game we blew against Texas. Looks like the Sox indeed let it carry over into the Yankee series where for the first time all year our bullpen made us look like a mediocre to poor team. Granted the Sox couldn't keep winning at that clip on the road, but it is an alarming development. In hindsight, still can't believe my man, Robin, who I've been proud of all season, used Scott Carroll, who has since been sent down. I mean, in hindsight, being 20/20 what a f***ing ridiculous decision to pitch Caroll against a good team. Geez. Anyway, my off day musing is a negative one. Hopefully we overcome the Carroll implosion vs. Texas and win the division. I really want to beat the Cubs in the WS.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 17, 2016 -> 04:26 AM) And you wonder why we call your posts sexist... I've never seen a place where more people are Hillary fans than this board. I don't get this board sometimes. It's very liberal and very Democrat. Yet the Democrats on this board don't seem to like Bernie. I don't get the Hillary craze on this board. I'm the bad guy for bashing Hillary. My faves get bashed for superficial things, too. It's not a sexist thing. Why in the world does the country want to reward Hillary? For what?? Of course I like Bill. He produced.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 16, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) I feel like Harry was a piece of the a perfect storm on the north side. The "lovable losers", the old ballpark in that neighborhood, the stretch, and WGN. Regardless of where you were in the country, you could watch Cubs games. For a lifelong White Sox fan, I never really got it. Why cheer for a s*** product? But the Cubs accidentally captured all of it. The White Sox, at the same time, had a crap TV deal, built a new (at the time awful) stadium in a less fun neighborhood. I never got Sportschannel as a kid, so I had to go to a friend's house or hope one of the WGN White Sox games was on when I could watch. It's not hard to get why the two Chicago teams are where they are right now, but it's also not as simple as "this team had Harry Caray and this one didn't" Good post. If you, as one poster said, truly had to get a special antennae just for the channel the Sox were on, well that was suicide for the Sox right there. I'm surprised they are still in Chicago after a decision like that. Thank heaven newspapers were a big deal back then and radio was a big deal and they covered the Sox properly.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2016 -> 10:13 PM) That's fine with me. Would you be okay with Bill Clinton running again, Greg? That said, Bill vs. Trump would be some great theater. But even without Bill, Hillary vs. Trump will at least be interesting because the dynamic is totally different in a one v. one format. Sure. Bill, as reported by the same people who say Hillary is the meanest witch you could ever meet, have nothing but good things to say about Bill. If I consider Hillary as annoying as Gilbert Gottfried on steroids, I consider Bill as likeable as the late Andy Griffith. It will be entertaining as you say when Trump in the debates turns to Hillary and says, "Nobody likes you." Then to the audience, "Nobody likes her," as well as the other insults he'll come up with. Whether it flusters Hillary ... whether it backfires on America seeing how rude Donald can be, ... we shall see.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) Kansas is about the last state in the country where you'd find a kid willingly identifying as a girl to have an opportunity to win an event in track...unless it was done completely as a joke and EVERYONE was in on it, in which case the event managers would probably get a sense about that and put the kibosh on it. Of course, the repercussion would probably be the top girls' parents (who theoretically should have won) suing the school for potentially ruining their daughters' opportunities for scholarships due to being denied the opportunity to run in a "fair" race. On the flip side, the state high school association didn't want to be sued by the kid who identified with being a girl. It was easier to put him in the race.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) So the reason the Sox don't draw well and have had only one exciting season under JR ownership isn't because they haven't had sustained success and multiple playoff appearances back to back, it is because JR let Harry go to the Cubs and couldn't get the Tribune Company who also owned the Cubs to put all the Sox games on WGN. Thad Bosley is 'shrooming again. Someone needs to let him know Harry has been dead for 18 years. Harry was known as an ass hole (not to the common fan, but to the bean counter types) and the Sox were glad to see him go. Unfortunately the common fan worships Harry, rightly so, and that destroyed the Sox. Harry going over to the Cubs was a major hit.

The TSA lines are getting ridiculously long. Some people won't go through the Xray machines as fear of cancer. Others won't do it because they are sick of other people seeing their privates. TSA needs to get its act together and speed up the process. There is no fricking reason you have to take your belt and shoes off. Get some f***ing bomb sniffing dogs up there. Having to disrobe in 2016 is a joke!!!!

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 16, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Lol. Dicks in a shower. I'm sure that's a huge issue. And Greg show me the link on the second half of your rambling. I'll find links if you can't look it up. Google the Kansas State High School state track meet. Some person who has a male body part demanded to run on the girls track team cause he identified as a girl. He got second in the 800 instead of finishing last as a boy. And the other link I saw said the government guidelines to schools say little Johnny WILL be allowed to compete on the girls team as Jane. What a f***ing joke. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 16, 2016 -> 01:30 PM) Wasted posts. You're afraid of transgender people. The sooner you admit that, the sooner you'll recognize what we already know. You don't understand transgender people and therefore they must be trying to assault your daughter. In this day and age when parents are so protective of their little babies, I thoroughly don't understand how people can give the OK to letting people who have dicks in the same locker room as girls. It makes absolutely no sense at all. If you go through the operation, fine, you have proven you truly believe you are a girl. Otherwise, just go into the men's room ... please.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) I'm sure for some on the far religious right, it is an attack on the "T", but for a whole lot of us, it's just simply we don't want any dudes allowed anywhere that our daughters are naked. I have sympathy for the problems that transgenders are facing. I just think we've come up with an absolutely horrible solution. Great post. QUOTE (farmteam @ May 16, 2016 -> 05:25 AM) But what's the reason behind it? Is it because you don't want them checking out your daughter? In that case, are you ok with a lesbian near your naked daughter? Is it because you don't want your daughter to see a penis, even one attached to a human with no interest at all in your daughter in any way shape or form? If so, you're just scared of having your daughter catch a glimpse of a body part. You're entitled to hold that view. But it's not a good reason to marginalize a single person, let alone a whole category of people. He said he didn't want his daughter in a shower with dicks in the shower. It's ridiculous that America is siding with the small population of men who "identify" with being a woman. Hey I just read this today. Part of the law is if a male identifies as a girl, in high school he MUST be allowed on the women's basketball team if he so desires, not the men's team. WOW. This will be interesting. I think it'd be a helluva lot of fun to DOMINATE the high school girls games. If I were in high school I might fake it so I could score 40-50 in the women's game vs. five points in the boys game. Seriously this is ridiculous. The boys are gonna be able to say "I identify as a girl!" and be allowed on the girls softball team! Wow.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) Lol. Pampered babies, yet you are too scared to order a sandwich behind a guy in a dress. I love the way message boards work. When you finally throw up your hands at a person who dissents you attack the person and try to mock/humble him. Not "scared" If you read my posts I'm trying to be polite to how the person in the dress looked. Do you get the hint ... guy in heels in dress, Greg, Greg's stomach not wanting food? I'm not afraid of him. I'm not liking the visual very much. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 15, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) This dude is telling people to toughen up when he had to leave a subway because of how someone dressed/looked. Fantastic. I don't have to toughen up in a restaurant. My stomach has to be not grossed out and want food still. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) It would be fun to see him freak out if a guy in a dress saddled up to the urinal next to him. I would continue doing my thing. I'm not going to get arrested. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) Let's just say what this is, a fear of transgendered people sharing a bathroom with you because omg they are gross. I don't want people with dicks getting their jollies off looking at women and maybe the nuttier ones attacking them. I want people with dicks to stay away from the women til they get the full operation and/or change their birth certificates completely. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) How many f***ing times do people have to say that it's not a fear of transgendered people--it's a fear of straight people taking advantage of the situation? It's only been said fifty times in this thread? Are you that dense or just intentionally ignoring what's been said because it doesn't jive with your far lefty commie views? And yes, there are already plenty of cases of straight guys doing exactly that. Great great post.

The Bathroom Dilemma
This is one of the most absurd issues in American history. Considering the amount of people this affects the main gay and lesbian rights group should be ashamed of itself for jumping on this bandwagon. How many people in this world have a penis but "identify" themselves as women? How many? And we're going to change all the restrooms in the entire f***ing country for them. All because they might be inconvenienced for the amount of time it takes to go to the bathroom. Listen, it's time to toughen up. If you have a f***ing dick go to the men's room! One other thing ... this PC stuff on campus is out of control. Comedians won't venture anywhere near a campus anymore cause of the PC bulls***. Jokes aren't laughed at by the pampered babies of this world. At the mere mention of the word black, they hiss. Gay they hiss. The audiences boo the comics off stage, famous comics. It's disgraceful what has happened to America. Maybe Trump can change the PC bulls***. What do u all think of this article. Sounds like Americans are gonna homeschool their kids rather than have them subjected to this crap. And why wouldn't they homeschool their kids over this? Here's what this means in real life: A junior football player comes to school and decides he'd love to go into the girls bathroom so he simply walks in the girls bathroom. He hangs out in there. When approached by the dean: WTF are you doing??? He says, "I identify as a woman. I demand to use their bathroom." Boom! He's in. By law! If this is America ... time to homeschool or go to private school where they can make rules and do as they please. http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/05/13/tx-l..._article_footer Hmmm man choking girl in women's bathroom. http://www.wnd.com/2016/05/obama-obsession...s-in-bathrooms/

QUOTE (South Sider @ May 15, 2016 -> 02:48 AM) I know it's straying off topic from Jason vs. Hawk, but I want to chime in on some of the Cubs vs Sox talk and pose a question I have been pondering recently. In the event that Michael Jordan was actually awesome at baseball and played his career out on the White Sox, do you think he would have heavily influenced fan interest towards the Sox? Do you think he would have made no impact, brought it close to 50/50, or turn it into a Sox town? If he was awesome? Probably. He probably would have played 10-15 years with the Sox if he was awesome. BTW, that ESPN show on Jordan's baseball career was awesome. He actually turned himself into a pretty good baseball player. He was stealing bases that final year and he was learning how to turn on his pitch and drive it. He had a few home runs. He became a pretty average baseball player. I remember Francona or somebody saying he was on track to be a big leaguer.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2016 -> 12:47 AM) That's why we have the Constitution. To protect the rights of the minority from being infringed upon by the majority or even "factions" (feels like the perfect word for this election cycle.) I wondered when I read Greg's line what an internet message board would have looked like in say, 1935, "those pesky Jews, why should we, the Nazi Party be afraid to step on..." Of course, bathroom discrimination vs. holocaust atrocity isn't quite the same thing (nor is Trump Hitler), but the point remains that the system exists to protect individual rights from being trampled. The operative question, of course, is what are those individual rights and who defines them. During the Bush Era, we saw that the Patriot Act could supersede our rights, rightly or wrongly. What are Greg's rights (to be offended or to "protect" his daughter, even it's an imaginary need) vs. the rights of those wanting to utilize the bathroom where they feel most comfortable? What provides the greatest good for the greatest number of people? Are there millions and millions of fellow Greg's out there, a Nixonian silenty majority on this topic that are afraid to join Greg's crusade openly and publicly? The state of Kansas, which is run by a moronic governor (he'd still win re-election tomorrow if there was an election cause of the fact it says R before his name, even though he's damaged the state dearly) is probably going to pass one of those laws that says if you want to go into the ladies room you have to have 'lady' written on your birth certificate and you'll have to get it changed lest you get thrown into the men's room. So Kansas will face all the boycotts, etc. Missouri I believe survived unscathed; the law didn't pass. But Kansas has some who are pushing to deny use of the women's room to anybody who has a penis.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 14, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Bloody hell greg! You are one of the most rigid, black and white posters on this forum. Stop speaking in absolutes so your posts are more bearable. All politicians get ripped and the fact that you use the media as evidence is god awful. Rush and Meghan are conservatives, so they will naturally be biased against any liberal. That socialist nutjob tidbit comes from the right wing base as well. The criticism of Trump are pretty much from both sides of aisle. Did you watch any Republican debates this election cycle? They were insult filled slug fests. Seriously, go watch them, I dare you because you will find out your posts have zero merit after watching his alleged republican colleagues rip him on national television. The hardcore Bernie supporters have been harping on Clinton for a while now even to the point there is a Bernie of Bust movement. Look it up! No one is free of ridicule and the fact that you think it's one sided shows how intellectually lazy you are. Come on now. It is one-sided. Do you watch cable channels? Hillary's transgressions rarely get mentioned. It's like they don't want to even acknowledge the email problem exists at all. It should be part of the discussion how badly she wants power, but nobody in the media is digging at all.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 13, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) You said to trust you - that where there's smoke with Hillary there is definitely fire. The only reason that I should trust you on that point is if you have personal knowledge of Hillary Clinton's actions and defenses. I can say "I don't trust Trump with foreign policy because his statements have no basis in reality" (getting Mexico to build and pay for a wall between the countries). I can say that I consider Trump's rhetoric regarding foreigners to be ignorant and inflammatory. In both cases, I have evidence backing me up. In neither case am I saying "Trump is a war criminal! He's going to jail!" IF you were merely saying that you do not trust Hillary Clinton because she has changed policy positions repeatedly over the last 20 years, or that you don't trust her because the e-mail scandal, at best, shows a lack of judgment that raises concerns about her ability to lead, I might disagree, but at least you would have support for your argument. Time and time again, you assert that Hillary Clinton is not a nice person (without considering the fact that someone might consider Trump or Cruz or Kasich's actions that of a not very nice person either). Time and time again, you rail on Hillary Clinton as a liar and someone heading to prison without any support for those arguments. Simply put, you have an ax to grind against Hillary Clinton and your posts contain zero analysis or objectivity on that point. Please IlliniLaw and others. If you are Clinton fans here is EVIDENCE of some of her flip flops and shoddy behavior. Elizabeth Warren is a liar, right? Watch this and tell me if you are not sickened by Hillary or at least bothered by her. Oh, but many will blame the messenger ... WARREN IS LYING!!! Sure she is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d60AzoIqvE
