  1. QUOTE (Vance Law @ May 10, 2016 -> 07:38 AM) Why in the universe is anyone offering him a 4 year deal? He had to sign a 1 year $5 million deal this year. Exactly. He's past the big contract stage. If he somehow has an amazing year offensively, he might get Kendrys Morales money but I even doubt that. Two year deal max, like one of those old deals Francoer used to get. Two years 14 million is MAX and he won't get that.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:19 AM) So why are you acting like you are special? This has all been about you b****ing about being uncomfortable around others. This is such bulls***. I was reading today that PayPal does business with countries where being gay is punishable by flogging. And they will pull out of North Carolina just cause politicians want people with male body parts to stay out of female restrooms? I want to know where the common sense has gone in America? With all the kooks out there, why should males be allowed in the women's restroom?? It makes zero sense. A lot of you are too liberal for me. Please answer this hypothetical. You are at Museum of Science and Industry and you are walking toward women's restroom with your 10 year old niece or daughter. Just as you get there as she is about to walk in the restroom, a guy wearing a dress and heels who is about 6-foot-2, 320 is walking in at the same time. You mean to tell me you feel OK with your niece or daughter walking in there at the same time??? Just cause he IDENTIFIES with being a woman?? I say, "Hey lets wait til she comes out of the restroom before you go in." If that makes me a bad person I have to shake my head. This is reality folks!! Not all transgendered people who have yet to have the surgery look like Kaitlyn Jenner!!Tell me you'd let your niece in the same bathroom in the scenario I described.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 10, 2016 -> 05:44 AM) 6 games up on Cleveland, 7 on KC and 8 on DET Woooo It's crazy. Don't you agree in past years you might be worried we'd immediately lost 10 in a row and give it right back? I'll admit having the new blood on the team plus the maturation of Sale, Q and Eaton makes me feel confident.
  4. What a great victory. Nice! Frazier 4-for-6 with 6 RBIs? You gotta be bleepin me. He's already produced more than Dunn and LaRoche. The signing is successful. Like somebody said a few games ago, he's a true "slugger." Love me some Frazier. And that pick at third he had on that blast to his right two games ago was remarkable it stuck in his glove. Avi and Jackson 3 hits apiece? This team is off to such a good start. In past years I'd be "worried" about this team going on a 10-game losing streak and giving it right back. I don't feel it with this team (there's no such thing as a jinx folks, calm down). No matter what, it's been a remarkable start. It's so cool to pile up all these wins and have the Royals lose so many games. The season is a marathon but obviously it's going to be strange when we first play the Royals. They are going to be trying to get that old swagger back and sweep us at home and on the road to make up 7 or 8 games right off the bat vs. us. Like Hawk says, strap em up. It's gonna be quite a ride. Lotta ball to be played but I stand by my Sox-Cubs WS prediction.
  5. QUOTE (Green Line @ May 10, 2016 -> 05:11 AM) Rollins is a professional veteran presence on this team that is much needed. His game is not what it used to be, but we need him. True. The Sox are right behind the Cubs in terms of an out-of-this-world start to the season. Rollins has to be given some of the credit for this. I'm not a huge Rollins guy but I would very much be against his being released. Can't deny what he and all the new guys have meant to the team. I stand by my early April post that he should bat ninth however.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 9, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) Welcome to the USoA, 2016. USA 2016 where everybody is special. Nobody needs to follow rules. Like George Carlin jokes about the entitled brats being raised today. "Johnny your team didn't finish in last place. You were the last group of winners." I love his take on being special. All kids are special. At what age does that exactly change? Cause as we know Not all adults are special. We should have a formal party when it's time that little Johnny isn't special anymore and has to enter the ratrace with everybody else and try to make a buck. Little Johnny isn't special any more at 22? 23?
  7. Sometimes it's hard to defend yourself on a message board. You can mock me all you want and say I'm racist because I think the Black Lives Matter protestors are way out of line when they approach people in libraries and scream in their face, but I am not racist. Believe what you want. Say what you want. I am not racist. I was the only white at dinner with three black friends a couple weeks ago and not once did we even talk about race. I think it's worth discussion what to do if these aggressive Black LIves Matter protestors approach you in a library and scream at you or your kids. It's like WTF man, get out of my face. I'm not acknowledging white privilege just because you want me to.
  8. You guys act like he's basically performing standup during the call. How many jokes does Jason crack during a full game?? Is he like Jay Leno?? A little levity is OK IMO. I mean is it Henny Youngman revisited? Is he doing this: "Hey Steve, a guy was walking on Lake Shore Drive when a guy approached him and said ..."hey guy can u spare a dollar?"
  9. He's way better in CF defensively than Eaton. If he hits about .250 and drives in 50 runs and plays a standout center field AND we win the division, I'd say he could sign a two-year deal for 10 million total. In order words his current contract with a second season. Nobody's gonna sign Austin Jackson to a big-buck contract. It's nice to have a good glove in center, but he's not going to get a great offer from any team. Five-to seven million a year is about the highest I'd go for 1-3 years. If Sox don't make the playoffs, move on. But the new CF must have a good glove.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 2, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) It's finally catching up to the Yankees and the Sox are stuck with Fat Panda. Just don't understand the Heyward type contracts. Remember when the Cubs were so cheap they weren't letting the grounds crew work overtime? They sent them home early if there was no rain in the forecast?
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 8, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) Chelsea had never held any public office. She will not run for President, and if she did very few would support her. Your conspiracy loving mindset is getting the best of you. Trump has proven that your first sentence doesn't matter. You fail to realize 8 years of Hillary coupled with the past 8 years of Bill will have made our country "Clinton-aholics." We will want more and more of Clinton and Chelsea will be sitting there not yet middle aged ready to take over. She has eight years to either get her law degree or maybe start out as an ambassador to somewhere. You wait! I'll bet you a Cell beef sandwich and Big Hurt beer she will run for president someday.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 8, 2016 -> 11:37 PM) I didn't say all of Trump's supporters are hateful and violent. I said that Trump's hatefulness is what is appealing to his voters emotionally. Most Trump supporters don't even know what he really stands for. He has issued explanations of many of his proposals on his Website. The media would rather discuss bathrooms, however. He has a health care plan. He has a security plan. If it's Trump vs. Hillary I'm gonna have to vote Trump.
  13. QUOTE (lord chas @ May 9, 2016 -> 01:17 AM) Spending the money for the TSA pre check was one of the smartest things I have done Does it take long when you sign up for TSA pre check? Where can I do it at Midway?
  14. Answer to this thread's main question? "I think he is." Go Avi!
  15. QUOTE (harkness @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:54 AM) don't dislike the guy... but today he was pretty bad. Horrible jokes and some other things. I still think he's pretty solid. No complaints yet. And those 2 have good chemistry. Stone is a different broadcaster with Jason. Whether Hawk believes it or not, Hawk can play the role of the crabby old man. I don't mind it, and don't really care if Hawk THINKS he knows it all, but truth is Hawk doesn't know it all. Stone knows a lot and seems to be on top of his analytical game more when he works with Jason, who isn't going to rip his head off. I like this setup; Hawk on the road.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) First of all, it would look completely inappropriate for him to take exorbidant speaking fees as "First Man." Why? Should he speak for free? He's still a former President even though he's going to be First Man. QUOTE (bmags @ May 7, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) "But there are also no qualifications for president aside from age and citizenship, but if there were, brilliant and well educated on policy would be two strong ones. Brilliant? I don't know if she's more special than most people in politics. She doesn't strike me as brilliant. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:46 PM) Yes. It is weird. But you don't like the way Hillary speaks. And you think she's "mean" (without, of course, the same scrutiny for the way Trump treats others). So I have a feeling that your position on the Clintons has zero to do with substance and everything to do with "judging a book by its cover." I've heard a lot of s*** on TV about superficial stuff. Chris Matthews was going on about Hillary's style. You think Trump's hair hasn't been talked about? What about Bush's voice? The heh heh heh mimicks on SNL. Ford being a clutz clown. If I think Hillary is screaming and talking down to me, it's not just me thinking that. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 8, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) And Greg's pushing the idea of Chelsea Clinton running some day isn't that far fetched. Unfortunately for her, she's more like her mother in terms of likability than her father. Finally somebody sees how Chelsea WILL run someday. And we know one thing, if she runs, she wins, especially if she uses the next 8 years to bolster her resume a little bit. It's our country people that let Hillary know they'd support her as the one to replace Obama. It's her turn and all that.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 8, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) If you strip away the hateful parts of Trumpism, he doesn't even have a chance. He won by appealing to people's emotions, not by taking certain positions. Not necessarily. ALL of Trump's supporters aren't hateful violent people. We'd have had riots if that were the case. Many of them are merely sick of politics and sick of not having any money.
  18. I was thinking about how much I hate airport security lines and all that. So I did a google search and came up with this video. The late George Carlin is a genius and was correct on his take. Get rid of airport security! They've never caught anybody with a bomb.
  19. QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 6, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) I'll try since I'm ancient and love the subject of history. About five decades ago Bill Veeck said that all things being equal Chicago would normally be partial to the Cubs. This was at the tail end of the go go era, in which the Sox had 17 straight winning seasons, beat the Cubs in attendance all but one of those years, and ruled the sports pages. Sports writers like John Carmichael, Warren Brown and Bill Gleason made sure the Sox got strong if not always uncritical press. That began to change after 1967. The Sox quit winning and were no longer on WGN. Coincidentally the Cubs began a 6 season streak of winning which included the epic collapse of 1969. Writers like Rick Talley of the old Chicago Today and others were openly fawning towards the Cubs and correspondingly hostile to the Chicago White Sox. Starting in 1984 the tide really began to change and I attribute that to the Tribune Company buying the Cubs in 1981. Everything was Cubs Cubs Cubs and little kids in places like Enid, Oklahoma and Bowling Green, Kentucky would come home from school and finds the Cubs game on TV. This is when the Sox really lost the popularity battle not only on their home ground but nationally as well. The changing demographics of the Chicago area favored the Cubs too. Additionally places like NW Indiana and SW Michigan, that were definitely Sox territory in the go go era no longer were. I know this is an extremely capsulized look at the issue but the Cubs have decisively won on the popularity front. When is the last year the Sox beat the Cubs in attendance? The Cubs are far more popular now, they can get 3 million or so to come to the park in years that they stink. The Chicago area is not the population and jobs mecca it once was and I don't think that it's etched in stone that the Sox will always and forever remain in Chicago. If the Sox decide to ever move, or have to move because of people leaving the city in droves, I hope they consider the Western suburbs of Chicago. It's a very different vibe out there and the Sox would sell out every game I betcha in Naperville or Schaumburg or Lisle, somewhere like that. Build some kind of palace, 8th wonder of the world in the suburbs and get some rich Chicago company to build it and embrace it. Only place I'd support the Sox besides Chicago and the Western Suburbs is Vegas. Otherwise they'd be dead to me. However, they'd probably build an indoor stadium in Vegas cause of the temps and I hate indoor baseball. The Sox would take suburbia by storm, however. Do you agree?
  20. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 8, 2016 -> 04:20 AM) At a SW side wedding tonight, total CFD/Polish (down by the airport variety... you know... fly in the extended fam from Warsaw) and half the men gathered round the TV watching the Sox. Lotta Sox talk, the buzz is palpable amongst the base. That's pretty awesome the wedding crowd was into a Sox-Twins game. Glad to see the Sox have done the best possible thing to neutralize Cub fever -- get off to this red-hot start. One thing I've noticed is how hard some guys hit the ball. My gawd, Lawrie, Frazier for starters. Great win. Sale is the master. Hope the Sox keep it up. I guess bringing in the new blood has really helped the team. I don't feel like they're going to bow down against the Central with the new blood leading the way, coupled with the maturation of Sale and Q. Melky obviously is feeling comfy at the plate in his second season with his new team. Rodon is going to be a big key this season; we need 3 fantastic starters and Latos/No. 5 probably will wind up iffy. GREAT WIN TONIGHT. Crowd was into it again.
  21. He looks good. I have two pairs of glasses is all. If I didn't hate shopping so much I'd probably buy more as well.
  22. I'll trust Hahn on how to handle this one. Like the column said, Reinsdorf has been very loyal. True the contract is about up, but considering how badly the Sox have fared overall under Robin, it's probably fair to wait til the end of the season. Robin is doing fine, though, this season.
  23. Trump says Bernie should run independent because of his treatment by the Democratic party movers and shakers. I'd be for that. I wonder if that would guarantee Trump the 'W'
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Should be Time's Person of the Year if he hasn't already....Nobel Peace Prize, on its way as well. If Obama can win it based on what he might have been able to accomplish in the future (mostly theoretically)...then Francis clearly should receive the award. Great point. Francis is a prime candidate for Person of the Year.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) It would be idiotic for Hilary not to take advantage of his insight and experience...that said, MANY things have changed in the sixteen years since he was last president. He looks frailer, weaker and less energetic. Can still give a great stump speech, far better than his wife, but that's not exactly a high standard to meet. Agreed. It is weird that when I think of Bill I think happy thoughts. WHenI think of Hillary ... I don't need to go there. But it's weird I love one of the two so much and don't like the other.
