Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) Well for starters, DJ does it way more than Hawk. That's just in town. The Royals also have the second worse broadcaster in baseball, Rex Hudler. (The worst is Tim McCarver) DJ better watch it. If anybody notices he could get the boot. It doesn't work except for announcers that are legends. Harry Caray had a Sox sidekick fired once cause he and the guy spent a rain delay trashing the team. They didn't blame Harry; they canned the sidekick after the season. Kudos to DJ but DJs are a dime a dozen. If the team gets mad he'll be shown the door.

8/15- White Sox vs Cubs
QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:34 AM) If the Sox lose the Sunday game and get swept there better be a news conference after the game with the firing of the manager!! Nah. It'll be same ol same ol waiting for the club to become the "good Sox" again and creep ever so close to .500. Sox just don't compete. They don't believe in down and get dirty competition even in trying to salvage a 3-3 split with the Cubs. Sox have no rivals; they can't get up for anybody except the Yankees. They'll probably even start a Sunday lineup, though Robin doesn't do that as much as Ozzie to be fair. Boni will play; I bet u Beckham plays and LaRoche of course will be in there. Add Sanchez and Soto and that will be an awful stretch of five hitters. Even Saladino can't hit anymore.

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) Hawk is the Wink Martindale homer. You're bass ackwards. By Martindale, I meant the fake announcers voice. Most teams have a Steve Physioc who ENUNCIATES and talks like nobody in America actually talks. "Fans ... it's runners on first and third and nobody out." QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 08:44 PM) You do realize that Hawk is THE homer in baseball. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it but he is the biggest homer ever. It's the definition of homer. Hawk CRITICIZES the team he works for. He did it again tonight. Why can't you guys admit NOBODY else in baseball does that??? He bites the hand that feeds him and it's GREAT. The Royals announcers like most mock the opposing team as part of their biting commentary. The Royals can NEVER do any wrong and it's sickening. Hawk is different! QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:59 AM) Sometimes a good thing can last too long. Hawk doesn't believe in advanced metrics, he says things that are blatantly wrong ("Those days when you raise your own players in the minors are over"...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?), he does not relate to younger fans (for example, no one under 40 knows half his references). It's not hard. WAR is important, not everyone is the next Yaz, Trayce Thompson is not a 30 HR hitter, and he's an absolute bore. On days when Stony is out, the White Sox broadcast is unlistenable to anyone who isn't a simpleton. Hawk actually does know baseball. Cmon. As far as advanced metrics, how come the producers don't even put OBP on the screen in most broadcasts? It's still BA, HR, RBI for hitters and WL, pitch count and ERA for pitchers. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:23 AM) Honestly, all of this is just flat out wrong. Hawk actually has referenced war a few times. He does not turn a blind eye to advanced metrics contrary to popular belief. His highly publisized beef vs MLBN, he certainly took a black eye, but he came out better for it. His references are found often across every kind of baseball media. To pretend his references don't exist to those under 40 is a joke. You can't go a week without watching sport center without seeing one. Every deadspin baseball comment section mentions him. AMEN! I hate the fact some Sox fans criticize this legend.

8/15- White Sox vs Cubs
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:40 AM) Either way, what does it matter? There was no one to trade other than Shark and it doesn't sound like anyone tempted us too much anyways. I disagree. I think we could have dumped Shark, Lexi and Robertson and LaRoche for sure, all to NL teams. We also I think could have dumped Melky and Avi. At the very least I think we should have traded LaRoche, Shark, Robertson, Melky and Lexi. It would have taken guts but Hahn could have re-generated the team with trades right there. Instead we're left with the same crap for next year. Not good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:05 AM) Even a great sale game and the BP cup, this white sox team can't exactly afford to win 1/3 in any series any more. It's August not April and we continued all in at the deadline by not trading our soon to be free agents. We're supposed to be right there at the end, Rick Hahn promised me so. Hahn or Kenny or Jerry ... somebody was too scared to pull the plug and make some big trades a month before the deadline when it was obvious this team sucked. If the Sox weren't gonna make any moves 2-4 weeks before the deadline, they should have at least fired Robin to see if a new voice would have mattered at all. You can tell Hawk thinks Robin is overmatched. He kept mentioning all the mistakes. The fact he's NOT mentioning Robin at all, ever, shows how much he blames Robin. A lot. If he thought Robin was a good manager, he'd be saying players are accountable, etc. You just know Hawk realizes Robin is a buffoon or at least not a leader. Sadly, Robin's teams have sucked. How this team beat Madden 2 of 3 in Wrigley is an anomaly.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) The league realized he can't hit fastballs up and sliders away. He looks like every other Sox prospect that's been called up the last 10 years. It really shouldn't be surprising, he wasn't a good Minor League hitter. True post. Saladino is a dandy fielder but can't hit. Another utility guy on a team full of utility guys (minus the ones we've already gotten rid of like Gillaspie, Semien, etc.; although have u noticed how hot Semien has been)? QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) All I have to look forward to is a Bears season that is shaping up to be 3-13. Just f***ing shoot me. We shouldn't be TOO greedy in terms of our city's teams. The Blackhawks are fresh off a world championship. Some cities (Cleveland) would kill to win it. We've had the Hawks to cheer about and the Sox have won a title in modern history and Bears reached a Super Bowl in modern history. And of course the Bulls were dynastic not too long ago. Our city is not long suffering anymore. The Sox blow, however. This team has been disgustingly bad except for one, ill timed 7-1 road trip. Typical Sox the one week they needed to suck to clear the roster of all these stiffs they excel.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Tomorrow is the game where anything less than a great effort would be inexcusable. Ace on the mound against their #5 with Cubs going for a sweep. I hear you, but what about tonight? A lot of people think Q is pretty good and the Sox had screwup after screwup (mentally) tonight. Robin should be ashamed or embarrassed at least. What a joke of an organization this is. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Historically from as far back as April 18, 1981 10th inning show, EE and JR have not considered the Cubs a 'rival'. That's been a huge mistake in my opinion. Mark Thing is ... Sox have no rivals. The front office probably thinks the Yankees are their rivals because of the amount of WS they've won. When are the Sox gonna have a team that gets down and dirty and plays solid baseball?

8/15- White Sox vs Cubs
QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:47 AM) I can't see how they don't BENCH HIM now!!! Give the young guys a chance and forget that our GM screwed up and gave him a 2 year $25 mil contract!!! You'll save a lot of anger/angst if you accept the fact Sox and most all teams will ALWAYS start and pay the guys making big bucks. LaRoche will get 600 at bats next year as well, even if he's hitting .210 again. Just the way it is.

8/15- White Sox vs Cubs
I know the White Sox under Robin have been the cool, calm, collected, never break a sweat type team whose motto every season seems to be, "It's still early; there's plenty of time left," before finally time runs out, but .... I would think the owner of this team would be flat out embarrassed by tonight's game. If this were a regular business there'd be hell to pay after playing such a s*** game tonight against one's in-town rivals. Oh wait, the Sox players I'm sure don't consider the Cubs a rival, just like the Royals aren't a rival, the Tigers aren't a rival. Sox never get "up" for any team. They're too cool for that. I wish Jerry would throw a fit publicly about this miserable, effortless team.
-
8/15- White Sox vs Cubs
Just getting caught up on the game. I see the Sox have played like crap. This ballclub is an utter failure this year. Never any sense of urgency. Never any extended periods of alert, good, solid baseball. Whether or not it's Robin's fault, this team blows.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) Seems a bit harsh when "policy proposals" are usually pie in the sky dreams that they have no hope or actual desire to see implemented. Demeanor is often a key characteristic. Does he/she look/act/sound "presidential" or not. Sure, basing it on that ALONE would be silly, but I don't see why that can't be factor or even a significant factor. Thank you, sir. Great post. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) Every year, it's the same thing. Cut government waste. Cut foreign aid. Help our own people, etc. The fact of the matter is that numbers aren't going to be adding up over the next 15-25 years with entitlement programs. Other than raising taxes or raising retirement ages, how are you going to control costs when a higher percentage are retired than working? Lots of super rich people think it's basically ridiculous they still receive social security, but try taking it away. Indexing that in terms of net worth would be one step, but even progressive moves like that aren't palatable. If you want to cut waste, why don't you take on all the churches/charities/501 c 3's who take in billions of dollars and spend it on executive salaries, fundraising, posh dinners and congratulating themselves when the lion's share of money isn't going into direct services that are beneficial to everyday people? If you held them accountable and actually withdrew their tax exempt status in the case of poorly run organizations, you'd probably be more effective than trying to reform the government. College sports shouldn't be tax exempt, that's for sure. It's totally big business. Churches? I don't know if you are right there. As far as raising retirement ages, that'd be fine if any business besides fast food would hire somebody over 50. It's all about young, cheap labor now.

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) Hawk deserves every piece of criticism. He is a complete joke. How come it seems half our fan base hates our legendary broadcaster? Any team that has a legend seems to embrace their legendary broadcaster but not White Sox fans. Hawk is entertaining, his voice is not grating, he's creative, he's funny, he actually blasts the team that writes his checks (or at least has a great say in his hiring) on occasion unlike all other broadcast crews, he doesn't mock the opponent like other teams crews, he tells good stories, he has good catchphrases but doesn't overuse them (except KC special for some reason). He's great. Why do some people want a plastic, Wink Martendale-voiced homer?

Shark
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) Come on, guys... you can hate on Samardzija, but it really wasn't a bad trade. We'll see how Ravelo does, but as for the others... there was no place for Bassitt on this team, Phegley is a backup, and Semien has been the worst defensive player in baseball. I dislike when people say things like this because it was a horrible trade. Sox gave up way too much. Now if the Sox would have traded Shark well before the deadline and got 2-3 pieces back, it would have been great. As of now, Sox got a one-year player who has been lousy on a lousy team.
-
Shark
QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) Now is the time to sign him. Buy low Ugh. Hope you are kidding. He's average at best. Somebody will sign him for HUGE bucks in the offseason, though. He's got the name. Why oh why did the Sox not trade him when he was on that roll earlier in the season? They could have gotten so much for him. So scared to make a trade.

8-14-15 Cubs vs Sox 3:10CDT (Hendricks vs Samardzija)
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) Lol...come on now. One year of Shark at $15M isn't much of a risk. I know you are joking. Amazingly though, somebody will give him 19-22 mill a year for 5 years. That GM should be fired the same day he signs Shark to that deal. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) At least we got Garcia and Montas back from Peavy. If Samardzija finishes with a 5+ ERA, he might actually be better off accepting the QO for just one year. Somebody will pay him. it's the way baseball works. In the offseason it'll sound like a great move to the fanbase of the team that acquires the great Shark. Reality will hit once the season starts. By June the fans and front office will desperately want to get rid of him.

8-14-15 Cubs vs Sox 3:10CDT (Hendricks vs Samardzija)
Cant wait to read through the thread. I missed the game today thankfully. Sounds like a game that might have been a bit frustrating when you want the Sox to win. Seems like Shark reeked and LaRoche continues to suck. Just bat LaRoche ninth if you have to play him. We're catching the Cubs at a very poor time, folks. They are red hot. We are red not.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) The market will not insure my spouse unless they are forced to do so. He mentioned health savings accounts, a favorite of "market" driven health care, and they're useless to me because of pre-existing conditions. Literally impossible to put enough funds into an HSA to pay for insurance when insurers won't insure you unless you're on a group plan. That's the whole point. That's probably the only reason to elect Hilly. Any republican will take away the new health care plan. One thing that may doom Trump is the longer he's in the more it's going to be revealed that he is incredibly rich and has stepped on a lot of little people in his life. I get that people like me love his candidness and non/PC behavior, but he is not a savior for the little man at all. He's a rich guy who likes to step on the little man and anybody else to earn a buck. We need a Trump demeanor wise who has heart and they are not out there. Hillary is too mean. Bush is too dull. maybe the former surgeon is the answer. I'll have to read about him.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) 2. A couple months ago I pointed out how the Republicans wanted to take health care coverage away from 15 million+ people. You couldn't believe that anyone would that callous at the time and now you endorse that. I won't even bother noting that the Deficit has shrunk by almost 75% under the current President compared to the last budget of the previous administration or that the bill you wanted to repeal in #2 has been basically the biggest long-term deficit reduction bill since 1993 because you won't pay any attention to that. 2. He had some health care plan that included the market or something. I didn't understand it but he mentioned it. The deficit is shrinking? How so. I thought it gets bigger every day and is soon to cripple us from what they're saying. it will be the end of us when it reaches a certain number he said.

The Republican Thread
Just took a long walk and listened to Trump's interview with Hannity as I walked. Hmmm. Trump gave a lot of specific policy issues. -- Laughed at critics and said it would be easy, 100 percent assured, to get Mexico to pay for the wall. -- Said he'd kill Obamacare immediately. Can the next president do that? -- Repeated the bulls*** about China and bringing manufacturers back to the U.S. I still wont vote for Donnie because of the fact he makes his ties there because "it's business" when he could be a trailblazer and do the right thing and make the ties here. I wish Hannity would have grilled him on that. He merely let Trump say he'd bring manufacturing back here. -- Said he's the best candidate far and away for the economy. Said he will turn it around. Says without him, if that deficit gets much bigger, it's the end of the world as we know it. Once again, he sounded good. Can't imagine any of the Republican bores knocking him off the top spot. It's gonna probably be Hilly vs. Trump. He said he would probably bring up Bill Clinton's marital affairs during the debates with Hilly. Not 100 percent sure but said it's fair game. Said he'd be better for women than Hilly. Repeated that he paid Hilly's campaign money so she'd take his calls, go to his wedding, etc.

2015 AL Central Thread
The White Sox season has been maddening and will continue to be maddening (I fully expect the Angels to get revenge on us with a sweep and we'll lose all six or five of the six remaining with KC) but tonight's Royals game again shows how weird baseball is. They are 20 some games over .500 and rolling along but look at the things their fans have to worry about ... Davis and Holland both sucked tonight. Holland has been human this year; very good to great, but human. How will that bullpen fare in the postseason? Next ... Rios remains Rios. Can Rios the loafer actually reach a World Series? And their starting rotation. Hmmm, on paper in a 7-game playoff series. They got some pretty implodable arms. Duffy? Excellent against the Sox but has struggled some. Guthrie? Lights out against the Sox but sucks. Ventura? Excellent last postseason but will he suck this postseason? Are Cueto and Volquez enough to ride all the way through? My guess is they will go on a postseason roll and Duffy and Ventura will excel in the postseason to go with the 2 studs, but even at 23 over .500 I guarantee you the talk shows will be all worried on Friday about KC's postseason chances. p.s. any of you who are still optimistic about Sox getting over .500 at some point, remember Angels to gain revenge next road trip and KC is still out there to mop us up six more times.

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?
Hawk is great. Last night's game is a pure example of how some of you take him for granted. The game went 4 extra innings and he and Stoney were absolutely a delight to listen to. I'm serious. They are both baseball people and talk about interesting s***. I'm sick of listening to Steve Physioc of the Royals and his perfect enunciation and constant blabbering about how to buy tickets and ridiculing the opponent and typical broacast bulls*** when you are a shill for the team. Hawk is a homer "put it on the board, yes" but I'll support him forever cause he does rip the White Sox. Any announcer does that for another team and they're gone, fired, gonzo after the season. Hawk WILL and does rip the White Sox and I love when he does that.

How Much Is a Good Suit?
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:30 AM) All I can say is no matter how expensive the suit, whether sixty three hundred dollars or a poultry three thousand dollars it will not grant you the respect you deserve. Come on. Damn is $3000 still a cheap suit? QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:32 AM) All men's stores have tons of sales and you shouldn't ever spend the tag price since its BS. "If there was no sale coming up could I barter like buying a car? "980 bucks? I'll give you 650 right now or see me when the sale is coming up."

David Robertson calls out Mike Scioscia
I thought it was rude of Scioscia to not take the argument a few steps off the plate. I mean Robertson should have been warming up or playing soft toss with Tyler the whole duration of the argument IMO. It was selfish/prickish to stand right on the plate!

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 03:16 AM) Anybody think Hawk will slip up and say something that may get him fired? He has said some pretty stupid things. The "Latin guys aren't funny in the clubhouse." comment. "Typical Asian motion. Deceptive!" when talking about a submarine asian pitcher. Saying "oriental" sounds kind of weird too. I'm not saying those examples are offensive, but I can see him taking it a step further on accident and offending some people. Did he really say the Latin thing? That's getting close to fireable offense in the day and age of PC stuff. Hawk is an idiot for saying Sox have more talent though. I agree we might win two positions of the nine. Yes we have better starting pitching and they have a better pen. Their bench is way better. Thing is even though our pitching is better, their scouts are so much better they absolutely know how to get our guys out and keep 'em in the park. So what happens is we basically lose every series against KC and almost every game. That's hard to do when you play 19 times.
