QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) Someone that can have this team ready for '16. Fundamentally sound and not make brutal win costing decisions. Someone that can get the most out of these guys. I like Gardenhire as Robins replacement. I know Minnesota has sucked his past few seasons but he hasn't had the best teams. I just want Robin gone. I really do doubt that he's gone after the year. If this team finishes 5-10 below .500 (there's still a lot of games left to define our final record; I'd suspect the Royals series will spiral the Sox to 10 under very soon) Robin just has to go. Simply for the reason we'll be starting the next season again waiting for bad things to happen. He's been here so long that IF we do finish 10-15 below .500 there's going to be a doomsday atmosphere starting Opening Day next year. It's all up to Robin but if the team really goes in the tank, he has to go. He just has to. Can't we steal a veteran manager from another team?? I want an old stodgy veteran this time. Assuming no Ozzie.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Had a gun and a hatchet. Guess we should try and control hatchets now! Hahahaha smh What the f*** is going on?? Why all these cowards going into movie theatres and blasting away? I guess the reason these wackos haven't started killing people in sporting venues on Game Day is they know they'll get caught with so many people around. They'd never get out of the stadium without getting caught. I'm thinking Tex is right. I want to be armed when I go see a movie. Some asshole wants to take a hatchet to me in the dark theatre, I should be able to shoot him. Odds are starting to be pretty good if you go to a lot of movies you might get killed. Nobody can deny there now is a risk when you go to a movie. So now we have to hear about this latest f***brain and his life story. I wish we'd just not identify him unless he's part of a terrorist group we need to know about. Making these killers popular is really bad/sad.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Spouting factually incorrect BS about nationalities he doesn't like is not "telling it like it is". He told people to grow up, that he didn't say all Mexicans who crossed the border are bad. The difference is Trump wouldn't let people force him out of the race on a statement he didnt' mean. He just told people off, told em to grow up and he doesn't think all those who crossed the border into the USA are bad. He did say illegal immigration is bad. It is bad, isn't it?? It's why it's illegal.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:15 AM) Just curious as to why? We have had so many hitters underperform. Why is that seemingly on Robin and not Steverson? Once again, the curious nature of fans. Steverson should be run out of town the way the Sox hit. Walker was run out of town. Why? Well, Walker was a former player who didn't really hit well in the bigs for the Sox. So the cliche was he was no good, a clown. Steverson is some new age genius guy who people know nothing about. Yet he doesn't get blamed at all when he should have been canned weeks ago. There are so many cliches in baseball. It'd take a lot for fans to think Steverson is no good. He's a no name who has been deemed outstanding for some reason. Walker meanwhile is a clown for no reason.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Let's hear some names. I'll start with some obvious ones that'll get tossed around: 1. Ozzie Guillen- His .524 winning percentage with the Sox is a lot better than Ventura's. Left on bad terms though. 2. Dave Martinez- The next great manager according to everyone but the 30 GMs running teams. Worrisome that he hasn't been hired yet, particularly by the Rays. 3. Joe McEwing- Perennial managerial and been with the Sox awhile now. Good 3rd base coach outside whatever the f*** 2 nights ago was. 4. Sandy Alomar Jr- The coveted catcher to manager move. Being groomed as a manager by the Indians. Obvious Sox ties. 5. Joey Cora- Key part of the Guillen "glory days" but without the shenanigans. Vanderbilt educated. Of course I want Ozzie, but I'm saying that's not even a consideration. No way on McEwing. That last decision on the basepaths makes people think he's a total clown, right or wrong. I'd say Alomar or Gardenhire if Leyland won't do it. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Gah. The crusty old man? I'd much rather get someone younger and more in tune with where baseball is headed. Actually an old guy might be good. How old is Bobby Cox?

Just saw we blew a 5-0 lead today. That would have been a s***ty loss. Good to pull it out. I was thinking about the Royals series. First of all I should not watch any of it as I'll just get extremely pissed. They are gonna have all sellouts and their team is so much better than ours that it truly will take a miracle to win one game. Royals are playing OK and again, all games are sold out and they are good at mopping up at HOME on lousy teams. That said, I would play Thompson all 3 games in KC. Try something different against the Royals. Play Thompson in right and platoon Avi/LaRoche at DH (I realize we can't just bench LaRoche cause of his salary so I won't even pray for that). Play Saladino all 3 games; play Thompson all three games. And as much as I LOVE Flowers play Soto all three games to try something different vs. KC. Seriously guys. We do the same ol same ol and it's SWEEP again for KC. And a sweep doesn't help us any since the trading deadline is long passed. Maybe Thompson gets hot and single handedly wins one of the games. Maybe Soto runs into a couple. We know Flowers is in one of those funks and needs the weekend off. And playing LaRoche all three games is insane. KC actually, uh, has advance scouts and they know how to f***ing get him out. Ditto Avi. So platoon THEM. Please comment on my post. I think you'll agree Greg is right on this one.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Rodon is so bad out of the stretch He should have been in the minors all season til September. He's been lousy as his 5.00 ERA shows. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 07:34 PM) He's a rookie who was barely out of college this time last year. If he's been disappointing then the problem was your expectations. I still laugh at the person who told me that bringing up Rodon in April would be worth 10 extra wins for this club, but that's where people were in their thinking early this season. I blame the team for bringing him up. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) Seriously, no one should be worried about Rodon. Most pitchers aren't immediately awesome. He still has "new guy" syndrome with the fans. People are excited bout his name and draft position. The results (so far) have sucked. I'm not down on him yet but he's been un-special. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) Rodon's ERA all the way up to 5.00 now. Personally, I'm not disappointed in how he's done, but I did think he would fare better. Lets face it. He's stunk. No biggie, but he's sucked. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) I'm just looking forward to next February's articles about how LaRoche is ready to put last year behind him and how is he has come into camp looking "fresh and ready to go". Loved that post.
-
Just getting caught up on the game. I'm happy Avi did so well today. He does seem like he tries hard and is an easy guy to root for. I don't want him to fail and suck. Congrats to him. Sounds like Rodon was bad again. Yikes. Don't know what to say bout that. Good relief work though. Our team is so inconsistent, lol.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 04:53 AM) http://www.nationaljournal.com/magazine/do...umping-20150731 Have to get The Greg's reaction to this one... Sums up the Trump "campaign" as well as any article yet written on the phenomenon. http://opportunitylives.com/three-ways-the...an-trump-trump/ Or this one... Good stuff. Thanks. That first story was wildly entertaining IMO. Of course that reporter was right. This is like Howard Stern running for president. Sure he'll drop out pretty soon. But as I said, I merely like the fact Trump tells it like it is or how he thinks it is. He doesn't take crap from anybody and I liked that about the controversy about the border when he didn't apologize. Didn't pull a Hulk Hogan and cower and leave the limelight forever. I said I probably wouldn't vote for him, I just love his style. And I'm sure that's been his appeal. He actually should keep saying crazy stuff for a while and not apologize for it. I did like his take on the Planned Parenthood controversy as well. He said he'd shut down the government til they took away all funding. I like all that. I'm sure I'll tire of Trump, but I think that first story shows how he already won. He got all those media to follow him to the border and pack two buses. Hilarious.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 04:34 AM) Just responding to some of the posts I read here tonight: "Robin Ventura's managerial career is over in two months." My response is I wouldn't bet the house on that. Robin is still very well liked by JR and I don't need to explain how much that counts in the organization. Plus he's under contract through next year. JR does not like to pay people not to manage. And of course if the Sox fired Robin that would make Kenny look bad. He hired him and had to talk him into it. This organization does not like to admit mistakes. "I'd still like Leyland or LaRussa. If they won't do it, Piniella. Of course I'd love Ozzie, but his mouth ruined possibilities of that." Leyland is 73 he's not coming back. Tony is already turning the D-backs around as president. Piniella is also older and has no desire to return. As far as Ozzie, he quit on the team in 2011, b****ed and moaned about his salary and contract. Insulted the fan base numerous times (remember his comments about the fans not liking his lineups? Or how about the infamous "pissing on statues" comment?) If Ozzie was the last manager on Earth, I'd say no thanks. As far as going 7-1 right before the trading deadline all I can say is that's typical White Sox luck if you look at the history of the franchise. Finally some were asking for a Micah Johnson return. He's currently on the DL (yet again) at Charlotte with left hamstring issues if I remember right. That marks the second straight year he's had leg issues. Running is his game...if he can't run basically he's useless. Could just be an unlucky guy who can not stay healthy. Mark excellent post. That 7-1 stretch still confounds me as a fan. f***.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 04:39 AM) There was all kinds of speculation about whether she was lying about having sustained a concussion during some Benghazi hearings. First it was all about her faking it and later it was about her being permanently brain damaged and therefore being unfit for office. Wow. Missed that. Thank u.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) This list just proves that MLB contracts are idiotic. Baseball is the worst. At least football they can cut a guy immediately if he starts to suck and not pay him. The bonus money is what matters there.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) You would want the government shut down - leaving millions without paychecks (you know, those that work for the feds) and millions more without access to services over a heavily edited video regarding Planned Parenthood? That's not governing, no matter your stance on Planned Parenthood. As for Hillary Clinton, Greg, what is your biggest concern with a Hillary Clinton presidency that would cause you to move to Canada for 8 years? That she's egotistical (as opposed to both Trump and Cruz whose I don't give a crap attitudes you love)? Her specific policies? If so, which policies do you oppose and why? My biggest issue with Hillary Clinton is that, for 20 of the last 28 years, we've had a President named Clinton or Bush. I don't love the idea of another 4-8 years of a presidency from either of those two families because of dynastic issues. I don't have a problem with Hillary's policies or personality, but I do think familial presidential dynasties are problematic. I will, however, almost definitely vote for Hillary if nominated, largely because the Rs are unlikely to run a candidate who either isn't dangerously far to the right or named Bush (see my earlier complaint about Presidential dynasties and Hillary's policies are much more in line with mine than Bush). I've linked to at least 2 articles that point out why I despise her. I tell you one thing that is interesting, though. The media has to be torn at least a little bit. They always want the liberal Democratic candidate to beat the stodgy out of touch Republican. Well, this time the media is being treated like crap by Hilly's people. They put up these ropes herding them around like sheep/cattle. I would think it would be hard for a media member to sing Hilly's praises like they do when deep down they have to know Hillary considers media scum, if that's the right word.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) Everyone's arguing that Bush (by simply being reasonable and articulate) has been helped the most by Trump...and I've never met a single person who wanted Cruz to actually be president. In the end, would want Walker because that's the classic argument of these times....labor unions vs. outsourcing, DC vs. states' right, the protection of the 1% (Koch, etc.) and corporations to the disadvantage of the middle class and poor, wealth gap widening, rejection of Federal Aid at the cost to weakest and most vulnerable and implicit desire to push those people out of state. You've now known one. I currently want Cruz.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 04:16 AM) Missed this game, what was up with Sale? Did he look like Boston with good stuff just not great control? I hope they give him a little rest and give EJ his next start or something. His pitches were screaming, "hit me" again at inopportune times.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 04:13 AM) Only the hapless Braves and White Sox below 24,000 tonight in attendance.... White Sox with 18,499 (bump up by 2000 from last night partly due to Sale/Archer?) Atlanta 18411 Would the attendance really be worse if we'd dealt Samardzija? Det 35039 Pitt 34993 Phil 28733 Cincy 25969 Wash 26112 (that's disappointing for them in a close playoff race) Nyy 48522 Tor 26504 Miami 23822 Only way attendance would grow is if Sox built on that 7-1 road trip and were smoking through this current homestand instead of going 1-4. We should have traded Shark back when I was chirping about trading him. When the team was really sucking in May or June when I was calling for us to trade all the guys we acquired last offseason. I hope the fans boo tomorrow if we suck again. Boo them out of town.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 03:02 AM) Well that'll be the last HR of the year for Garcia No offense to Avi, but boy, that was the definition of a meaningless home run. With the score, 11-2. I don't know how he went down and golfed that into the stands. I miss the lift and pull days when we had a lot of guys hit home runs. I don't miss the double plays, though. Those sucked.
-
Sox get clobbered, 11-3. Thanks White Sox for going 7-1 on that road trip, then immediately sucking. You players convinced everybody you were in the WC hunt to stay, so Sox didn't trade Shark and some other guys they should have dealt. Now the team will have to do all its trading in the wintertime and will just get some dumb compensation pick for Shark. Ugh. Thank you White Sox for nothing. How you guys won all four from Cleveland and three of four from Boston is one of life's great mysteries. I know those teams suck but it still makes no sense you'd go 7-1 right before the trade deadline.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:58 AM) If they cant take back what they dish out too bad. Well that's kind of a cheap shot saying he should write about how lousy Robin is doing now. It doesn't make much sense to write that Robin blows a few days after praising him.
-
I'm pretty sure Hawk knows Robin is a lousy manager. He doesn't praise Robin incessantly like he always did Beckham. I bet u when Robin gets canned or resigns after the season, Hawk's schtick next year will be how Robin is a great guy but the organization is really looking forward to play under the new manager.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:51 AM) Yeah I am. That's two Chicago writers for me. Michael C Wright got mad when I talked to two Jets writers about something he reported. Showed him he was wrong and he blocked me. Turned out I was right. The Bears did have enough money to sign a guard(he said we didnt) and the person he said we had no interest in was wrong. David Haugh said "Dumb comment, but I'm sure you amused yourself. Congrats." All I asked is why is he quiet on Robin's job now that we are on a losing streak. Apparently only when we're winning is it a good time to comment. What thin skin some of these guys have. Why send snide remarks to writers? Nine of 10 times they'll do what those 2 guys did. Block you. Those guys are paid poorly, work in a dying industry, have bosses that are complete assholes and they don't get paid overtime. They take 6 a.m. flights to save their dying companies money. Ballplayers for the most part hate them. Fans hate them. I read somewhere sportswriting ranked 200th of the 200 worst jobs in America. Last year it was 199, one better than lumberjack. Give those guys a break IMO. They know they have wretched jobs.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:45 AM) Offspeed pitch to Mahtook from Robertson last night pretty much ended the season...and the disastrous bottom of the 9th. You are right. The season did officially end last night. Good post. Thanks, McEwing. That did make it official IMO. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:46 AM) shut down Sale for 15 days please Yep. Good call, big Hurt. No reason to keep trotting Sale out there. DL time. Save him for next season when we try again with a great pitching staff and little else. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:49 AM) Sale's ERA gone from 2.85 to 3.46 in the last 2 games. I trust your figures, but that is really amazing how quickly it can skyrocket. 3.46 is pretty un-spectacular. 2.85 is great. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:56 AM) We'll never know, but without getting to 49-50, I'd be interested to know who wouldn't be on this team right now, if anyone. Robin Ventura's managerial career is over in two months. I think u are right. Although the times we creep to within a game or two of .500 it seems like he's as good as any manager. The ups and downs of this team suggest he really should be shown the door, though. I'd still like Leyland or LaRussa. If they won't do it, Piniella. Of course I'd love Ozzie, but his mouth ruined possibilities of that. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) Give Thompson an AB so he doesn't have to think about tomorrow all night. He should play every day the next seven weeks. Why not? Give him a tryout. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:31 AM) 3 years ago I said as long as KW is still with the Sox, I am not going to a game. I used to go to 15 to 20 a year. That's pretty cool. You actually were right to blame him. You may be the smartest Sox fan alive. I didn't realize KW was that bad, but in reality he is.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:15 AM) You had no idea, last home stand against good teams told the story to me. .500 is a distant memory again. I got fooled. It's not easy to win on the road and we were murdering those teams. We were getting great pitching and the hitting, led by Melky, looked like it was on fire. At least now, mentally, I'm back to realizing Sox just don't have it this year. No reason to get mad. The team just reeks.
-
Tampa just has a better team than we do, folks. 3-1 lead. Lots of losing is coming up cause no way we can beat the Royals more than 1 of 3 (slight chance of that) this weekend. To those of you who knew we were about to go in the tank after the 7-1 road trip, congrats. I had no idea we'd stink this soon again.
-
I can't believe how much I oppose Hillary. When she wins I may have to move to Canada for eight years. Her statements on Planned Parenthood today are insensitive, but nobody cares. I love Trump saying he'd shut down the government before funding them after this scandal. I wish Hillary supporters would tell me what they see in her, besides the fact she's democrat and you hate Republicans. I mean I voted for Obama last time and I'm Republican.
