QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) Pile on Avi time! There are 159 qualifying hitters in MLB. Avisail Garcia is 152nd in Zone%, or percentage of pitches thrown to him that are in the strike zone. He is 2nd in Swing%, or percentage of pitches thrown to him that he swings at. Not a good combination. Nobody throws him strikes because he'll just hack away at anything. He had actually started to show progress on that last year, but it's completely fallen apart. That can't be corrected in the big leagues. Send him down for the rest of this year and all of next season

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 05:24 AM) McEwing didn't really cost them the game. The next 3 guys could have popped out or struck out. It was stupid and the wrong decision but I blame Duke and Robertson more than a damn coach. Stop blaming coaches for the entire season. It's really lazy. It's not lazy tonight. Yes the relievers sucked big time. But the Sox were going to win that game. McEwing single handedly ruined that with his unforgivable blunder. He just went braindead or got caught up in emotion. Lexi had no chance. First and third nobody out would have been nice. It would have been a big come from behind win. Woulda been the third time the team battled back, finally to win. Now ... I look for a sweep; definitely 2 of 3 Tampa minimum.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 05:37 AM) This White Sox team is 50-50 since their 0-4 start. So the 0-4 start prevents the team from ever getting over .500. Cause this team has zero chance of climbing over .500. Just can't do it. QUOTE (South Sider @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 06:13 AM) McEwing has been an awesome 3B coach this year. Not his fault this team is in a must-win position right now. I'm not entirely saying he's not to blame here, but the lynch mob should take a step back and realize no one is perfect, and the team as a whole has made more costly mistakes this year then this one call by Joe McEwing. Thanks. I don't think it's true he's been a great 3B coach. I do know tonight's mistake was unacceptable. Boneheaded move of all time. He admits he saw Lexi start slowly and still sends him against that arm?? If Eaton was in center, maybe. The fact it cost the Sox such a crucial game is mind boggling.

McEwing took ownership, but he was a clown tonight. Cost the White Sox a game. And it's the game that assures them of not contending for .500 and a wild card. The dream is dead. Thanks, Joe.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) This one. Never getting to .500. Not happening. There have been so many bad losses, but yes, this is the killer. Sox won't get to .500. You are correct. The funny thing is this weekend in KC may be the final nail that most of us thought was coming last road trip. Losing 3 to KC after this homestand should catapault the Sox toward the bottom and a top five draft pick.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:49 AM) Rongey trying to rationalize McEwing making that decision... Nobody out! Done! That's the only factor McEwing needed to know. Period! Just heard the McEwing interview. Said it was a "terrible decision" and he'll take "full responsibility." Nice sentiments. He f***ed up and knows it. I guess there's no reason for a lynch mob. Just an unfortunate thing. Geezus, Joe. Get your head out of your ass and concentrate next time. He was asked a followup and Joe even said Lexi "froze" on contact. So Joe even sent him knowing he initially "froze." Not good, Joe. Please learn how to coach third base so when we have a good team this does not happen again! Thank you.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:38 AM) I was at that game, he originally sent Eaton right when Eaton was touching 3rd, then put the stop sign up to late because McEwing wasn't that far down the line where Eaton could react in time. Then he's a complete idiot. Good thing we don't make the playoffs. He'd probably do something ultra-bizarre to cost us in the one-game wildcard. If you made the gravity of a mistake McEwing just made at your workplace, you'd be cautiously updating your e-mail every few minutes to see when the owner was going to rip you a new one. The "baseball book" probably doesn't even allow anybody to say anything to McEwing. We should let somebody like Pods coach third until he proves he can't do it, either. Thanks McEwing for ruining that game.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:34 AM) Of course he'll be starting tomorrow. He's Hahn's pride and joy - Avi the "untouchable." Even though he got the double, he needs the two-day LaRoche time off minimum. You'd think at some point the Sox season would play a different tune. Instead it's the same song. Everytime they get near .500 they play some of the worst baseball you've ever seen. It's just bizarre. Last week during the road trip they were murdering teams and looked like picks to click in the playoffs. Now they look like the bungling buffoons they've resembled many times this season.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:31 AM) I think he tried to hold Eaton last week and Eaton literally blew him off and ran right to home That was probably in the back of McEwing's mind ... ugh. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) The thing is....it's just laziness on McEwing's part and/or lack of scouting. If Kiermaier didn't play for the Rays, he'd be in the Gold Glove conversation. He can really do it all defensively. The Rays' announcing team was simply incredulous he was being sent there. It's not laziness, it's stupidity. Being baseball stupid. Not even thinking about the situation. If Lexi ran through a stop sign, let me know and I'll re-direct my anger.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:29 AM) Don't get me wrong, I know it was a terrible move and I think he should be fired, not just for this but for all of his horrendous decisions this year. But we're the White Sox. We won't fire him. I hear you, brother. I'm so mad at McEwing. Like somebody said, a good Little League coach would know better. McEwing has to be ready to make an educated call. He probably never even considered the fact there were NO outs. He got caught up in it. Pretty idiotic. I think it's baseball etiquette to not interview McEwing after the game, so the writers can't grill him about it. Probably unnecessary anyway. But it was a send that cost the Sox a game. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:30 AM) it's been common knowledge for years now that the Sox cannot win games when there are expectations set upon them, hell even Rongey admits it and he waves the damn pom poms every night. it's like they're scared as f*** when pressure is on Never thought of that, but you are right. They'll start playing good ball again when they are 8 under .500 probably. Web gems. Big hits. Key bullpen performances. And then they'll get to one under .500 and reek again. Sickening.

Can you imagine if you screwed up at work as badly as McEwing just screwed up there? You'd get raked over the coals and depending on your reaction to the chewing out, you'd be fired or at least DEEP in the doghouse. Will anybody even say anything to McEwing? The Sox have a bad enough team ... they don't need coaches making the players' jobs even more difficult. Thanks, McEwing. We'd have probably hit into a DP and tied the game, but noooooo.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:20 AM) Let's be real... McEwing won't/shouldnt' be fired over this. He just cost the White Sox any chance of getting the wild card. He MUST be fired. I mean if he uses 1/10th of his brainpower he does not send Lexi there. He just has to go. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:20 AM) Choke fest all the way around on this one. Terrible managing and coaching. Sox now lose 4 of 5 since the 7 game win streak. Total choke. I was fooled by the road trip. I thought we'd steal a WC. Buffoon-ball. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:20 AM) Absolutely the game where you know it ain't happening this season. Terrible. If McEwing sent him all the way, worst call I've ever seen. There's never been a worse send. I mean get your head out of your ass. You are a coach. You don't let emotions get to you. You cannot let the runner try to score with nobody out. The White Sox would have tied the game minimum. They've completely tanked since winning seven in a row. Just unbelievable.

I can't believe I witnessed a grown man, in baseball his whole life, send a runner on a base hit with nobody out on a play in which the outfielder had the ball about the time Lexi took one step past third base. It seems like we have the worst 3B coaches the last few seasons. Good god, how can that man live with himself? How could anybody with baseball knowledge send Lexi there? He must apologize to the team and the city. I mean if it made even a smidgen of sense! How can you send Lexi there?? It's impossible.
-
How can a 3B coach who has made unbelievably bad sends before, be that stupid? He must be fired now.
-
Look. You've got to fire the 3B coach. Immediately. I mean is this actually happening?
-
How can you not hit to the left side there? He's got to go left. Maybe bunt that way.
-
Hate to say it, but I'd rather lift and pull than hit into a DP here. Nice hit, Lexi.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:08 AM) Still pissed they didn't try and get Astros or Yanks interested in Robertson last week Best bet is to just pitch no name guys as closer until they lose it; then go with the next no-name guy. Robertson overall deserves a grade of B-minus though I'd say.
-
Is it hyperbole or wrong of me to say this is the season right here? If we win in dramatic fashion, we still are a scrappy team with a chance? If we lose, we are a joke and will ultimately vie for a top draft pick?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 03:05 AM) Robertson has been another disappointment He's had some miserable performances, that's for sure. Isn't he a decent closer for baseball in 2015 though?
-
Oh well, if we lose this game we deserve to lose. Robin made the rite call putting in Robertson.
-
I loved Bobby Jenks.
-
I like that fan who has been in it the whole game yelling stuff at the players. Nice to see a fan into it.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Thornton was one of the best relievers in the 21st century overall for the Sox. There have been a ton worse. At the end of his Sox stint he was horrific, you must admit.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) Belisario is definitely #1 Thornton was pretty pathetic at the end.
