  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon, Erik Johnson, Carson Fulmer, John Danks, Free agent?, Chris Beck, Francellis Montas. Not as strong as this year's rotation on paper but could very easily be just as good. Equally fair question in reply would be "who the he** will play 3b and RF and C and 2b and SS and DH" for the White Sox next year if we don't move him to fill some of those gaping holes. Quintana will be dealt. The problem is we usually trade or let go the wrong guy. Look at Santiago. Look at Mark Buehrle. Look at McCarthy before he got hurt. In the offseason maybe they could package Q and Danks and Micah, make somebody take Johnny's salary and we get one Puig and Ethier in return. I think the obvious trade is for Ethier and Puig. The question is what do we give up? I say Q, Danks and Micah.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) This is the first reporter I have seen that mentioned Ventura NOT being safe. How can management go for it again next year with a lousy, sub .500 team that will have the same core group? It's not going to magically start beating the Royals and Tigers. You've got to at least change the manager. I think it's safe to say we're going to start next year as a continuation of this year without major changes in personnel and staff. I mean just our improved infield of Saladino, Lexi, Sanchez and Abreu is one of the worst hitting infields in all of baseball starting next season. Our catcher position is horrific offensively. Our DH is so bad it's laughable. And Melky is nothing special, Eaton is overrated and Avi is a question mark. The pitching is great; what else is new?? Fire Robin at least.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) I can't help myself here... 1. Asking "do you believe in God/creation" as a yes/no is like asking "do you believe Tyler Saladino is an OK/MVP player?". You're getting a lot of "no" votes from people who do believe in God in some form because you've asked what might be the worst poll question I have ever seen. Huh? Do you believe in God is a pretty simple question.
  4. Jimmy Carter is one, brilliant man. And he's all about believing in God. http://news.yahoo.com/jimmy-carter-focuses...-134742207.html
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 05:58 AM) I'm pretty sure Obama is not actually religious. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but like you said, in the political world, if you're anything that's not a Christian denomination or Jewish, you're screwed. I've heard Obama talk about God. So far seven of nine do not believe in God. That's pretty crazy. What if we get 17 people to vote and 15 don't believe?
  6. Six out of eight so far don't believe in God. I really hope more answer my poll. Six of eight is interesting.
  7. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) Where is greg with his tongue in Danks ass? You shouldn't say stuff like that. I am hetero. Also I am not a bad guy I just happen to love Danks. Why does that bother people so much?? QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) Sox dugout appears dead. Not much life in these dog days. Guys seem rather late to get on deck as well. That's why our record is what it is. Think of how many games the Sox have zombied away. The good Sox some days; the bad Sox many others. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) I know it shouldn't but it does amaze me how many seem irritated when Danks pitches well,a nd love to go on and on about him when he is pitching poorly. He is a 5th starter. Look around the league. Not many of them are contending for a Cy Young. Excellent post. It irritates me that so many are irritated when he pitches well. I don't understand the Danks hate. If he hadn't gotten hurt and had to have surgery he'd have earned his salary. He's a five starter. Deal with it. Sox could eat the money and not pitch him. They elect to throw him out there every five games. Sometimes he excels and Greg is happy! Sometimes he sucks. Whatever.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 10:47 PM) Petricka gives up far too many hits. Definitely isn't a set-up man He's just another guy. Fathom has a good read on our talent this year IMO. Unfortunately Saladino and Sanchez are Just Another Guy's as well. Ditto Flowers, Soto, Beckham. And I'm fearing Eaton, Garcia and Melky are teetering toward the Just Another Guy category which would would not bode well for our team's future.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Starting with the game Friday, the Sox have 13 games against teams with losing records, Mariners twice, Red Sox, Twins. For them to have any hope, any chance at all for even a winning season I said they'd have to go at worst 10-3 in this stretch. They've just used up one of those losses. Mark Finishing sub .500 with this many "name" players would classify as a very very disappointing season. Normally a fireable offense for the manager and coaches IMO.
  10. I see my boy, Danks, got rocked pretty good today. I still think he's a work in progress from the surgery. He is what he is ... a decent No. 5 starter. Now can he get good enough to be a 3 again? How the hell do I know? I am not a scout (of course the Sox scouts blow chunks as well). It's the Sox's fault for giving him all that money, not Danks' fault. Anybody who gets a lot of money in the future (Shark ring a bell) is gonna be the next Soxtalk whipping boy. Almost nobody earns their $$$ in baseball nowadays. I see LaRoche has 12 homers; Abreu 23. So LaRoche could still get hot and finish with 18-20 homers. Abreu could hit 30. I don't wish LaRoche ill will. If he could regain his stroke he might conribute next year. For him to contribute fully, they shoiuld let him play first and DH Abreu who is still not exactly graceful afoot at first, though I do love him as a player/hitter.
  11. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) I suspect we've already had a non-religious president or three. Even today, it's political suicide as a national politician to admit you don't believe in God. Those days are rapidly closing, though. As to the original question, I consider myself agnostic. No one know what happens when you die, but if I had to guess it's like going to sleep indefinitely. Why are those days rapidly closing? Trump has mentioned God and I'd have to check on Hillary's stance. So why is it changing? The world is so politically correct and we don't want to offend anybody so the atheists are winning regarding holidays like Christmas. I'd say in 100 or so years it'll be a country that never mentions God because of PC times 100 and Christmas will not be recognized by workplaces as a day to give employees off.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) The Sox should be in "wait and see" mode right now. Give everyone another year to develop . The Sox would have a slick fielding SS/2nd base combo with Sally and Sanchez and all cost controlled for many years. Wait til next year doesn't cut it. Sally and Sanchez would be the league's weakest ss and second base combo offensively.
  13. Nice win. Another extra inning win. Five under .500.
  14. Yay the good Sox are back again. Another win. So team is five under .500 Team can afford to play well three more nights in a row max to cut it to two under .500. Then they'll get all worried and tight again and lose five in a row to get it to the comfy seven under again. Good win tonight though. The good Sox are back with three wins in a row!
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) Yeah, and for whatever reason, organized religion sometimes seems to serve as a landing spot for these types of individuals, which could not be a worse place for them to land. They're put in a position of authority and power and they seem to either abuse it or enjoy it just a bit too much. Yeah, I totally despise the abuses of power you mentioned. I remember when I was an altar boy and through two years at Brother Rice no priest or lay ever made any advances toward me. Though some of my peers weren't as lucky. The worst I remember was one priest being a chain smoker and he smelled bad of smoke as we did Mass. Of course both my parents smoked on the south side so I should have been used to it. As far as the pedophiles, It would be nice if all were caught and imprisoned forever. It is interesting in a growing liberal culture we've never had a President who was an atheist or non believer. That's pretty wild. You'd think in this growing non-God culture there would be some political candidates who do not believe. Yet to date all have mentioned God. I know Bill Clinton did. I would assume Hillary is not an atheist as well. Oh well not a lot of responses. I'd love to hear if Soxtalk has way more nonbelievers than believers which is my suspicion but so far it's only 4-2 voting.
  16. Two great posts. Amazing that in one case a private school teacher makes it hard for you to graduate for no reason and in another some pervert regligious tries to hit on you during an important counseling session. Chalk up two very negative instances re. religion.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) Why is it silly, Greg? Look at this thread, look at some of the horrible things that have happened in theaters? Who cares what age they are, teenagers find access to guns and do horrible things just like older people. All this s*** you are talking about in this thread over people being outraged over theater shootings, and you call it silly to check people for weapons. I mean they have teenagers working there checking the customers.
  18. They are checking handbags and backpacks here in Lawrence. Seems kind of silly. The low paid movie people are all teenagers.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) What's scary (and, well, good I guess) is that elite glove light hitting 2B 23 year old rookie Carlos Sanchez might finish with the 5th highest wRC+ on the team. Sanchez is holding his own but goodness where the hell is the overall production. Hindsight is 20/20 but it's obvious Carlos should have been named the opening day starter at 2B. Not only is his defense elite, he also did nothing but hit in spring. The ORG however sold the narrative of Micah and it sold them right down a historically awful defensive start. Excellent post. It was a very bad decision as it turned out to go with the sieve Micah over vaccuum Sanchez.
  20. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 06:11 AM) It's really going to suck if a team gets a wildcard spot with 83 wins, that'd be such a huge missed opportunity. As bad as this team is and has been, it's only five back in WC. I am not dumb enough to expect a WC run but like you said, what a missed opportunity. So many games just wasted.
  21. The good White Sox showed up again. It sucks that this team has been so bizarre. Still only five out in the wildcard race. Obviously too many especially considering we play KC six more times. It's been talked about a lot, but Sox really have to attack this Central Division problem. Until we break the jinx against these teams we're gonna have a lot of losing baseball seasons ahead of us. I mean lets say the Sox got red hot and STILL tried to battle for the wildcard. You know we're gonna lose 4 or 5 minimum against KC in the final six and certainly we play other Central Division teams the rest of the season as well. Until baseball wakes up and reduces the number of games against division teams from 19 to about 10 Sox are gonna have major problems. Tonight's win: The good SOX. Sale and the bats returned.
  22. I was watching some Bill Maher shows on youtube and enjoyed his debates with Bill O'Reilly and various other people about God and religion. Maher believes there is no God, thinks the Bible is a fairy tale, and says once we die we're kaput forever. We will have no knowledge of anything; we'll be gone. Religious people believe there is a God and our spirits will live forever. Some people elect to practice on Sundays; others do not. I was hoping to get a thorough count on Soxtalk of believers vs. nonbelievers and how many of you practice your religion by going to church services or Mass if you are Catholic on Sundays. Feel free to put any comment no matter how brutal about whether u believe or not. My guess is Soxtalk is vastly full of nonbelievers. I do not say that because I don't like Soxtalkers. I think Soxtalkers are very brash and skeptical if that is the right word and I sense an 85 nonbeliever; 15 percent believer count.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 05:15 AM) Carlos Sanchez has been hitting very well lately. We know his defense is elite, but if he keeps hitting, he'll be a MLB starter for a long time. His defense is so good it's amazing. If he hits like this it could be our new Ray Durham for longevity as you say. I am now down on Anderson the minor leaguer after watching his at bats. I wouldn't count on him with the long swing and the huge bat he uses. Is he can't miss offensively? I don't see it.
  24. The good Flowers showed up today, folks. If he was rested more maybe he could be stellar (better).
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 03:53 AM) Carlos Sanchez is hitting .314 over the past 33 games. That's pretty good.
