  1. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) Am I the only one here who wants Kenny Williams to stay? Does he have any more fans here? I'm not a fan. He needs to go.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) Wanting to talk about the Cubs on a board for the White Sox seems pretty silly to me. You would think if you were a fan of the Cubs, you'd want to talk with people who were also fans of the Cubs. Here there really aren't other Cubs fans as much as there are the paranoid and angry about what the Cubs are doing, plus the token King of Bandwagons. What is sad is it's pretty obvious they might finally win a WS. Probably not this year but soon. They have the core. Now they just need to keep signing free agent pitchers. For them to not win it all, they have to blow it like we did with Shark.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) Why is Jimmy Carter your baseline of religious arguments, greg? Couple of reasons. Jimmy Carter is one of the greatest Americans ever. No hint of scandal. Never a hint of inappropriate behavior. One of the most amazing humanitarians of all time. Not only that ... he is brilliant. I don't know how many books he's written, but he is intelligent, classy, wonderful human being. He has a news conference to tell the world the cancer has spread to his brain. I could print some of his quotes but basically he said he was fine with whatever happens. He didn't push God on everybody but when the reporters asked him stuff he gave honest answers saying God is in charge of this. To have such a BRILLIANT person, remarkably smart person believe in God, the image of the man upstairs amid the clouds, how can I not use him as an example of proof that it is not ludicrous to believe there is an all powerful GOD in charge of us all? Jimmy Carter is THE epitomy of greatness and class. And he believes. I wish him the best as he battles this cancer
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) It's the NY Daily news. That is what they do. I wonder what the NY Post did. They usually are even worse. This story is really heartbreaking. I will say the silver haired man who runs the station has really been classy in this terrible time. His news conference today exuded class.
  5. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 05:32 AM) apparently subway knew going back in 2008 (NEWSER) – Subway may have known about spokesperson Jared Fogle's alleged desire to have sex with children since 2008. At least, that's what the former owner of a Subway restaurant in Florida tells Business Insider. Cindy Mills, who was a Subway franchisee from 2006 to 2012, says Fogle started calling her every day after she met him at a company event in 2008. She says he would make inappropriate comments, telling her "he really liked them young." Mills says Fogle told her he'd had sex with child prostitutes, some as young as 9, in both Thailand and the United States and even encouraged her to prostitute herself on Craigslist. Mills says she went to executives within the company with her concerns but was ignored. She tells Business Insider she spoke to the CEO of Subway's affiliated advertising company, which employed Fogle, and he told her Fogle had recently met a woman who would hopefully "help keep him grounded." She says she didn't go to police because she feared Fogle's "money and influence" and didn't want to lose her job. Business Insider reports Mills did request to remove all images of Fogle from her restaurant, but Subway denied that request. "Every time I would see him on TV in a commercial with his arms around these children, it would kill me," Mills says. "I couldn't stand it anymore." This is crazy bad. He may be one of the most evil individuals in this history of America if this stuff is true. NINE years old??? My gosh. Is he actually the devil reincarnated? I can't even imagine how sick you have to be to want these things and admit to such activity to people.
  6. Just listened to 40 minute interview with Bernie Sanders. I thought he was pretty boring and had an annoying voice (listen, these things do matter in this day and age). However, I did like what he said about reforming the election process. It's simply insane that Hillary can raise 1 billion dollars for her campaign and Jebbie raise a ton and Trump raise as much to rival the national debt. It guarantees we have Presidents who will let the wealthiest top five percent run our country and have the middle class be stifled and stuck in the muck as always. I like that Bernie baby wants to raise minimum wage big time, make college FREE at public universities and I loved his comment that Social Security is fine and it is an insult that some candidates want to make people work til they are 69 or 70. Let me say this ... it would be FINE to have people work that long, if f***ING businesses would hire people over 50. Age discrimination in this country is now rampant because businesses do not want to pay a living wage. So most businesses hire folks right out of college til they hit 40 and start making money, then they DUMP THEM. The American dream is not to have a good (not great in terms of salary) job like teacher, businessman, accountant, and get laid off at 60, then have to end your career working as an Uber driver, starter at a golf course (if you are lucky enough to get that job), or fast food pusher til u are 69. I liked some things Bernie baby said. Ms. Hillary is NOT for the middle class, folks!!! Give Bernie a look. I'll have to explore Biden's stance on issues as well.
  7. Just have Hawk do all home games and like somebody said, the Boston and Yankee road series and Cubs road series. He doesn't need to be doing all those boring Central Division road games. I hope they don't bring in some golden throated homer. The former Sox announcers are great. Let Stoney do the play by play in the games Hawk doesn't do with DJ as his color man. Let the remaining two radio guys do the radio, whomever they may be.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) Time to clean this lineup up. Get rid of some guys Yes sir. But Rodon for President as well! He's special. Shut him down the rest of the year and let him enjoy this success.
  9. I see the good Sox showed up again today. Rodon has shown enough this season. He's a future star. So I'd agree to shut him down all of September. Let EJ replace Rodon. You might consider shutting down Sale and Robertson too. Let somebody else close and maybe add another starter from the minors to give Q and Danks a couple extra days rest the rest of the season. Eaton is hot and getting his numbers up to respectability. Sure hope he does better the first 2 months next year than he did this year. He's our catalyst and can't suck for the first 7 weeks. GO SOX. Trayce should play every single day; ditto Micah. Don't let any guys like Beckham even have one at bat. Go with all the future stars, not the dead weight guys. Any minor league catcher down there who needs some seasoning as well?
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Yes exactly. There are many people who would vote yes. Most of them can't turn a computer on though. Dammit. There I go offending people again. That is offensive if you meant it. So you and those who don't believe are so smart and we are the hick buffoons who believe in the all knowing man in the sky God. A lot of intelligent people believe ... Jimmy Carter who is the definition of true faith.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) I know this has probably been addressed over the 109 pages, but why do we even have a Cubs catch-all thread on SoxTalk? Why not? Cubs are a team in Chicago. Can't ignore them.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 09:58 PM) You can't refuse the search if they have probable cause (i.e., smell drugs / booze on you or see something in the car seat), right? Or am I incorrect? Also, I thought you will lose your license for a year if u get stopped at a DUI checkpoint and refuse to cooperate. The cop can always have an out and say he smelled alcohol in your car and that was probable cause to give you a DUI test. You refuse it and you lose your license. Attorneys? Is this right? So if you are stopped for a DUI checkpoint you pretty much have to answer the cops' questions. It appears to be different regarding a citizen checkpoint. You can stifle there and not say anything.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) A real simple question with Joe Biden is "what role would he actually fill in this campaign?" Is he going to ideologically tap into a group that isn't well served by the current major candidates? No. We've actually got a good spectrum from "Confederate Flags aren't that bad" to "guy who calls himself a socialist" and a good set in-between already represented. Is he a better campaigner than any of the major candidates? No. Extremely gaffe prone, without the backing of outright racists like Trump has who overlook that stuff. Could he come out with a policy proposal set that is significantly better than the current candidates? Maybe, but he's several years behind the curve in developing such policy proposals. Is he going to outdo Hillary in fundraising or something else like that? Maybe could suck up some money, but certainly not going to outdo her when again she's got a 12 month+ head start. What's the point of a Biden run? It's basically to pacify people who for some reason can't personally stand Hillary Clinton, like you. I'm ok with him meeting with some people about things, it's always nice to have a "backup plan" in case the "here's the floor plan to the structure in Benghazi and the key is under a fake rock to the left" email Republicans have been dreaming existed for 4 years actually did exist, but other than that, he'd hurt himself by getting in unnecessarily and there's no reason to think he'd be an improvement except for people like you who are actively considering voting for Donald Trump. Not exactly a strong endorsement. Excellent post IMO. The one thing though you are missing IMO is the fact Joe is getting old, he doesn't have THAT many years left to live (once you hit 70 or so it's a crapshoot) and he personally MIGHT want to be president. I mean he's so close right now, why wouldn't you go for it?? No. 1, all these people have big egos and he can run for president and get in on the debates (if there ever are any Democratic debates) and he can be important one final time. He can be relevant and in the news all the way through the primaries. Maybe even longer than that if he's lucky or Hilly is unlucky. So my point is to your "what role would he actually fill in this campaign?" Well, he'd fill the role of trying to PERSONALLY be president. If Hilly screws up ... if Hillary is indicted later down the line ... if the press catches her up on something, he'd be there ready to mop up and win. But as far as technicalities as they stand now ... you are right. He brings nothing to the table. He can't touch Hillary. But if she's indicted .... meet your next president, Joe Biden.
  14. Is it safe to say Joey Belle was the meanest person in Sox history? Or is there anybody else rivaling him? Seems like he was a pretty big prick especially judging the one story about him calling one of the Soxtalk members a xxxxxx for taking his pic in spring training. That's pretty bad. I can see why some dont wanna sign autographs, but a picture? Cmon Joey.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:59 AM) I'm shocked people still think these games matter for the playoff hunt and that the Sox are going to win like 20 of 25 or some s*** and finish with 87 wins. Uh, that ship has sailed. This is a mediocre team at best. Seriously, nobody on this board thinks they are in contention for a WC. Grobstein laughs off any caller that suggests such an absurdity. I think it's worse than mediocre. I think it's a sub-par team. I would agree with anybody who calls it a "lousy team." I did see you said mediocre "at best" which is probably fair. AT BEST.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:20 AM) Man this team is DOA. The nights they are DOA offensively coupled with the nights they play like clowns (defense, baserunning) is what has made them a bad bad baseball team.
  17. Serious question: If Hahn acquires Kendrys Morales instead of LaRoche would the Sox have been a contender this season?
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:04 AM) You can't have Flowers Saladino Avi and LaRoche in the lineup and expect to win. Avi has talent. He may need the Viciedo treatment (year in the minors to reinvent himself).
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:15 AM) Yep, the exact location the great Tyler Flowers called for that pitch No offense to Fathom, who has had a great season posting IMO, but are Sox fans the only fans in baseball that always blame the catcher for pitcher f***ups? Nate is not great (I'll give him a break like I do Danks, though, in guttily coming back from injury). I ALWAYS blame the Pitcher.
  20. Nate tattooed on that one. Prolly doesn't matter anyway. Sox bats are broken tonight (again).
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) Yeah, Walsh is really the only guy that comes close. Maybe Pierce. Most of our pitchers have been so overrated by us Sox fans... LaMarr Hoyt, Jack McDowell, Mark Buehrle, etc. are so much worse than SoxTalk posters seem to think. Don't get me wrong, they're good, but their stats really aren't great. Hoyt would have been an icon in Chicago history if not for Dybber. Hoyt was 24-10 that 1983 year with a 3.66 ERA. If Dybber doesn't mess up the series is 2-2 and Sox EASILY win the Sunday game to take that series behind Hoyt. Then they continue steaming to a WS title. They won 99 games that year. I'm surprised that what ultimately happened that season is not discussed as one of the biggest chokes ever by a team. Sale is amazing, though. If he stays healthy he'll be best Sox starter ever. He really ought to ask experts about his delivery. Longevity is all that may escape Mr. Sale. he is superb.
  22. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 02:59 AM) The Sox have had their chances against this bum. But when you have s***ty players in the line up you expect s***ty results. This game is a good lesson for our front office if they think they can avoid an overhaul of the lineup. They cannot. Guys whose production must be upgraded or they must be replaced: Melky, Flowers, Avi, Eaton, Saladino, Sanchez, LaRoche. Only acceptable at bats might be Thompson, Lexi (counting on bounceback year), maybe Avi, maybe Soto as backup. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:00 AM) 119 pitches thru 6. Robin, if you put him back out for the 7th, you are an idiot. It's not up to Robin; it's up to Sale. He gets mad when they yank him. ... Wow Robin had the stones to yank him (updated).
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) I'm not really sure why. We've become less and less religious over time. Church scandals and extremists haven't really given religion a good name the last few decades. Communities used to be based around their local church, but that's not the case anymore. Churches and congregations are dying. Literally, the audiences are just old people in a lot of places. Once they go, the Church will too. edit: and others have said, you're on a message board on the internet. Members here are mostly "young," mostly affluent liberal people, i.e., the ones most likely to not be religious. It's interesting to me. I hope everybody votes so we see if it's mostly those who do not believe.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) Unbelievable when he had the gun out pointing it at her as they talked and he stepped back for a moment like he was positioning better or having second thoughts. Its crazy how none of them noticed him pointing the gun only feet away. Horrifying. Think of all the wacked out assholes who will use this as a copycat. Always be aware of your surroundings, people and prepare yourself mentally to act fast and get involved if you are in a public place and somebody goes for a gun. Be ready to act like those guys on the train did.
  25. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Yeah that video gave me chills down my spine. It's crazy how we all probably watch violence of TV and don't even bat an eyelash. This is scary because this is apart of life in this country. Very true. I just watched the gunman's own video. He had to be holding his phone at the same time as he held the weapon. Our world is in deep trouble. We are a killing society and every minute you leave your house you are in some kind of danger. It's only going to get worse. If the gunman really wanted to make a point he could have jumped out with the gun to these people who he perceived as his work enemies and said "Right now I could kill you if I wanted to. This gun is loaded." And then shoot it into the ground, leave and let his enemies live their lives in peace! He could post that on social media and be a hero in his own mind. Instead he is so f***ed up he has to actually kill them then end his own life. Scum of the earth.
