  1. QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) You've figured out the secret to winning games - hopefully Hahn or Ventura is reading this thread. Robin will never do it. I'm sure having a very difficult, no nonsense camp is probably against baseball's nonwritten "rulebook." You've got to just "get your work in" and "be professional" even when these guys need to be pushed as much as football players in many cases. That's why we need a new voice. Robin isn't gonna put them through fundamental boot camp. He's gonna continue to run the kind of camp he probably enjoyed most as a player. If Robin can turn it around I'll be amazed, happy but amazed.
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 04:44 AM) Jerry dybzynski cost the white sox the 83 title Yeah, I'm surprised he's not despised more, kind of like the Sox version of Bartman. But he's really not. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 05:59 AM) Greg, I'm with you on Danks. He's a warrior. I can't stand watching him on the mound but what he's doing after the capsule tear is basically unprecedented. He's worked his ass off to get back from it and even though he isn't half the pitcher he was I really appreceate his dediction and love of the game. I can see the dedication to baseball with him. His body betrayed him it really sucks but he could have just easily half assed his rehab and made the same amount pitching in Charlotte are being DFA. I've not written that in my support of Danks yet, but that is indeed why I love him. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 06:09 AM) The Sox scored 3 runs in that 4 game series. Hard to blame one guy. True, but if Dybber doesn't screw up Sox cruise in the final game of the series behind Hoyt. It was Hoyt's year like Baumgartner in the WS last year. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Nah, I can hate Kirk Hinrich and Gordon Beckham for what they represent. LOL. Why don't u like Hinrich? Ugly guy? Just wondering. He's a pretty good player. Got a lot out of his skill set. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Santo hated his time with the Sox is true. He hated being moved to second base, hated being benched by Chuck Tanner, just a real ass. Carlos May told me this story about Santo when I interviewed him. “The other time was when we got Ron Santo. He was our DH that year. We were in Chicago and it was cold and wet. Dick was hitting 3rd, Bill (Melton) 4th, and Santo 5th. Ron was back in the clubhouse, I don’t know if he was getting loose or doing something but Dick made an out and went back to the dugout. As Dick was sitting down, Ron came out of the tunnel and asked him what the pitcher was throwing. Dick exploded and basically said if he wanted to know what the pitcher was throwing he should have his ass on the bench watching with the rest of us.” Mark Great story. He probably forgot he wasn't on the Cubs anymore where he was king and knew everybody. He was on a new team. That's an interesting lineup with Allen, Melton and Santo all in a row.
  3. Couple of questions. ... -- Any Western Illinois fans? Is Benet QB Jack Beneventi expected to do anything in Macomb? Why did Iowa dump him as a commitment? -- Anybody know where Benet's John Duvic the kicker has surfaced? He has left Kansas. Finally --- Anybody know if Martez Walker is Central Michigan's top running back this season?
  4. I would kill the creation part but I can't find an edit button on thread titles.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) It officially started in 1976 but he joined in 1984 and became their most well known proponent. He should get more credit for being one of the most upstanding individuals in the history of the world.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:45 AM) It's true. I wouldn't post a fake stat but it is very sad. His ERA is lower than you'd think for someone who leads baseball in earned runs allowed, isn't it? Yes. This kind of season should propel him to the one-year 9-10 mill a year territory so many hack pitchers find themselves in. Still he'll please some fan base this offseason when he signs. He still has a name. San Diego 4 years 80 million maybe? Dodgers 5 years 100 mill?
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) Being a bust as a player though is different from being hated. And I was told a story about Swisher from one of the beat writers. In the second half of 2008 after the Sox got Griffey, he tried to help Swisher who was in a bad slump by offering some hitting tips. Swisher literally blew him off I was told and just ignored him. Mark That's amazing. I really despised Swisher when he was here. I was quite vocal on soxtalk. I hated him. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 01:08 AM) Navarro is #1 ..............John Danks #2 Geez. Really? Mr. Blackout game starter? QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 01:27 AM) Without a doubt. He is one of the most hated players in the league by teammates. There is a reason that he needs to travel from team to team. He is truly one of the most dislikable people you've ever met. In Baseball he is on par with Bonds and sheffield. Any stories? We'd love to hear stories about AJP the prick. Is he despicable in restaurants/bars to fans, etc? QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 02:18 AM) I don't "hate" anyone. Hate is a strong word for me. I don't like what he did to people and I know how most people view him. Any good stories? QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 02:58 AM) Considering we gave up a draft choice, pay him more and signed him for more years, Melky was a far worse signing than Laroche. And yet, people act like Melky has done his job. He's been terrible. I agree. Melky bothers me greatly. Only reason I don't totally despise him is he's pretty much the reason the team got sort of "hot" for a stretch and actually looked like it might actually wake up and vie for a wild card. But his clownish behavior in the Royals series and his lousy stats bother me to no end. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:06 AM) Danks has been average to below average this year. If it wasn't for his shoulder problems, he could have been one of the better Sox pitchers of the past decade. He was absolutely money in 2008 and had 4 seasons where he put up 3.7 WAR per season on average. I love John Danks the baseball player. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:24 AM) Danks had one of the best performances in franchise history in the tiebreak game. He shouldn't be close to anyone's most hated list. Amen. You speak the truth. Interesting somebody said Santo. Didn't he say he just hated his one season on the Southside? Was miserable? Kessinger was a big bust, too, as a Southside player/manager. I don't know if he hated being a Sox though. He probably did as well.
  8. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 02:37 AM) If Robin is coming back, then I'm sorry, but there will be no point for me to invest in any way, shape or form into next season. It will free up a whole lot of free time for myself without the Sox. Maybe I'll get to those hobbies or never realized dreams I've never started. So in that way, thank you Sox. But a big F U to Jerry. You know what, that's a reasonable position to have. If Robin is back there is no way the team will change its identity of this nonachieving lazy mistake filled bunch of ballplayers. I LOVED Robin as a player but it's true. How the hell is this team going to next April 1 turn this around? It can't. Unless he totally changes, starting in spring training with a military like camp (which he won't do) and thousands upon thousands of ground balls, fly balls to fielders; situational hitting; situational baserunning drills, nothing can possibly change. Even if its change for change sake. I can see why you'd skip the season as a fan. Cause there's no way in hell we're going to finish over .500 with Robin. It's just true. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 5m5 minutes ago #WhiteSox VP Kenny Williams says he is flattered about rumored outside interest but he's also comfortable in Chicago Kenny Williams a few minutes after talking to reporters: "All right, what did I say this time that's going to get me in trouble?" That's actually pretty damn funny. Kudos to Kenny on that one.
  9. QUOTE (Carlo Paz @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 11:59 PM) Thanks for that, it was an enjoyable read. I agree. Thank u for your perspectives on the game and dugout.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) The quality of these pieces are stunning Will. Tons of great insights in here. Amazing job!!! Digged the nugget on Montas from the NL East scout. Amen. You guys do an amazing job. A plus.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:15 AM) Is there any fan that likes Hawk saying "Kansas city Special"? Nobody likes it. Nobody. Even I hate it and I worship Hawk. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:16 AM) Jeff Samardzija leads MLB in hits allowed and earned runs allowed. If that's true, he's one of the worst pitchers in baseball! And somebody is gonna pay him 18-24 mill a year because of his "name?" Professional sports and contracts just disgust me. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:22 AM) Start the youth movement for the rest of the year. It's ok to give Eaton/Melky/Avi a day off once in a while for Trayce. Amen brother. I wish they'd bring up Micah too and Davidson!! Play them. Why not?? QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:23 AM) At least we showed some fight in the 9th Big deal with all due respect. We already know the team is good enough to win most nights. It just doesn't. the ONLY thing this team did well all year "team wise" is win extra inning games. FIRE ROBIN please!!!
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 02:29 AM) #WhiteSox, who have a .305 team OBP, tied for 23rd in MLB, came into the game with 55 outs on bases, 3rd most in MLB. Lg avg is 43. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/636000943713189888 Is Vince Coleman still first base coach? He obviously has no clue. And our 3B coach is a buffoon. That one game he cost the Sox was pretty big (at the time).
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:03 AM) A team is nuts if they give him more than 12 or so a year. Exactly. He's like those hacks the Royals pick up for a year like Volquez, Guthrie. He SHOULD be a 2-year 24 mill type guy or one year, 12 mill type guy (in today's baseball prices).
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) Stupid base running. Avi is horrible on the bases Exactly. That was f***ing ridiculous. If the coach sent him, he's idiotic, too. Pathetic.
  15. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Maher mocks religion because the abuses of the institutions are dangerous. True, but I've listened to him a lot on youtube lately. He mocks the being also. He thinks he's a myth, a fairy tale.
  16. Clayton, Rios and Swisher would be right up there. Dunn and LaRoche are right there as well for me. Of course Navarro like many said. Ron Blomberg was a big bust.
  17. The guest host on Limbaugh today was blasting Hilly for being a boring candidate with no positions, thus nothing to talk about except the email scandal. She's doing exactly what I said she should be doing - nothing. All she has to do is hang out and watch everybody else fall up and down in the polls. If she just exists, she's going to have enough votes to be the next president. She doesn't have to say a damn thing, cause near the end is all that counts and at the end she'll still be standing. The system already has given her enough electoral college votes all she has to do is shut up and not get indicted.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) It is anything but simple, Greg. The definition of God is not the same for every religion, and that is what NSS is trying to get across to you. You are asking for a simplified answer to a complicated question 10-4, Yikes! I am asking if u believe in God; the guy who is sitting up on the throne in heaven. The religious version of God who is up there looking down on everybody and created everything. Not just a spirit but God, the big guy in charge of us all.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon, Erik Johnson, Carson Fulmer, John Danks, Free agent?, Chris Beck, Francellis Montas. Not as strong as this year's rotation on paper but could very easily be just as good. Equally fair question in reply would be "who the he** will play 3b and RF and C and 2b and SS and DH" for the White Sox next year if we don't move him to fill some of those gaping holes. Quintana will be dealt. The problem is we usually trade or let go the wrong guy. Look at Santiago. Look at Mark Buehrle. Look at McCarthy before he got hurt. In the offseason maybe they could package Q and Danks and Micah, make somebody take Johnny's salary and we get one Puig and Ethier in return. I think the obvious trade is for Ethier and Puig. The question is what do we give up? I say Q, Danks and Micah.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) This is the first reporter I have seen that mentioned Ventura NOT being safe. How can management go for it again next year with a lousy, sub .500 team that will have the same core group? It's not going to magically start beating the Royals and Tigers. You've got to at least change the manager. I think it's safe to say we're going to start next year as a continuation of this year without major changes in personnel and staff. I mean just our improved infield of Saladino, Lexi, Sanchez and Abreu is one of the worst hitting infields in all of baseball starting next season. Our catcher position is horrific offensively. Our DH is so bad it's laughable. And Melky is nothing special, Eaton is overrated and Avi is a question mark. The pitching is great; what else is new?? Fire Robin at least.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) I can't help myself here... 1. Asking "do you believe in God/creation" as a yes/no is like asking "do you believe Tyler Saladino is an OK/MVP player?". You're getting a lot of "no" votes from people who do believe in God in some form because you've asked what might be the worst poll question I have ever seen. Huh? Do you believe in God is a pretty simple question.
  22. Jimmy Carter is one, brilliant man. And he's all about believing in God. http://news.yahoo.com/jimmy-carter-focuses...-134742207.html
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 05:58 AM) I'm pretty sure Obama is not actually religious. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but like you said, in the political world, if you're anything that's not a Christian denomination or Jewish, you're screwed. I've heard Obama talk about God. So far seven of nine do not believe in God. That's pretty crazy. What if we get 17 people to vote and 15 don't believe?
  24. Six out of eight so far don't believe in God. I really hope more answer my poll. Six of eight is interesting.
  25. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) Where is greg with his tongue in Danks ass? You shouldn't say stuff like that. I am hetero. Also I am not a bad guy I just happen to love Danks. Why does that bother people so much?? QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) Sox dugout appears dead. Not much life in these dog days. Guys seem rather late to get on deck as well. That's why our record is what it is. Think of how many games the Sox have zombied away. The good Sox some days; the bad Sox many others. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) I know it shouldn't but it does amaze me how many seem irritated when Danks pitches well,a nd love to go on and on about him when he is pitching poorly. He is a 5th starter. Look around the league. Not many of them are contending for a Cy Young. Excellent post. It irritates me that so many are irritated when he pitches well. I don't understand the Danks hate. If he hadn't gotten hurt and had to have surgery he'd have earned his salary. He's a five starter. Deal with it. Sox could eat the money and not pitch him. They elect to throw him out there every five games. Sometimes he excels and Greg is happy! Sometimes he sucks. Whatever.
