QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 06:25 AM) I am unsure at this point. I will find out more tomorrow and hope that it isn't too late. Went ahead and made a gofundme. I know none of you know me but like Rock said, I guess you never know... Save my house.... Any suggestions on helping market it? Maybe its just the fact that I've always been poor, but 10k just sounds insurmountable in the time given. I'm exhausted and can pass out any minute now so if I don't get back to you, I apologize. I wanna thank everyone who has replied to this. Took a lot for me to do it, and I'm glad this board is filled with such great people. Again thank you. Take a chance and send it to WGN News and all the news stations. Just say here's a modern day story of a guy trying to save his family's residence with not much time to spare. Say that if there any rich guy's with a heart you will pay them back someday. I'd quickly send your website info to "have a story idea" buttons on the various news websites.

Official High School Football Thread!!!

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) I live in Mt Greenwood. EP is actually better than it was MoPo is not an option Ag School is select enrollment I have one at Rice and two in catholic grammar school. It is worth it thus far as the education is pretty good. My son did get $3K off for being a bright kid. The community involvement is what makes these schools and neighborhoods thrive. I really like where I live compared to when i lived in the south suburbs. I have always lived in Chicago and like it. They converted the tennis court to parking and some of the front entrance greenery is parking now as well. Be weary of Brother Rice until you see how Loyola goes. The starting QB for Rice and the starting QB for Marist both played in the MHR backfield four years ago....Rice kid was the QB. I'm going braindead. What is MHR? I grew up on 103rd and Homan. I was doing a google earth type search and i followed Homan all the way down to 118th street and the Mt Greenwood Little League fields. However one video made it look like the fields were gone. Are u familiar with Mt Greenwood Little League? Are those old fields still up on about 118th and Homan? thx. -
Can you do what Badger suggested? Best wishes.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 04:44 AM) And Thompson will more than likely be a 4th OF. We're just cornering the market on backups! Yep. Sox are full of them. Tons of backups. But also tons of stellar starting pitching prospects. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 05:23 AM) This place wouldn't complain so much if we had a good team. Everyone's tired of it. The only complaining that I think is stupid is the other night Avi hit a home run into the second deck and somebody said, "blind squirrel." I mean complaining after something good is dumb. I mean as much as I hate Melky, when the Sox were hot and he had several multi-hit games I at least credited him for that. Overall you have to complain because this team blows but I don't like complaints after somebody does something good. Like if Flowers goes 3-4 somebody will say, "Great, now Robin will keep playing him." Stuff like that is just bad. I'm not crazy about Eaton, either, but I have to give him credit for his average continuing to go up.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 03:20 AM) It is what it is. Ventura doesn't even bother managing. Saladino batting first was a telltale sign. Last season he batted f***ing Jordan Danks in the number one spot. Jordan f***ing Danks! He loves Saladino. That's apparent. Probably because despite his deficiencies he does try to move runners and go the other way. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) Man when did half the posts on this board just become complaining? ??? What else can we do? There's really nothing positive to discuss because of the continuing losing ways (patterns as well) of this team. It's a broken record. We could discuss Eaton's second half being good. But his arm is so damn weak. We could discuss Saladino and Sanchez being bright spots, but they've reverted back to being utility player prospects at best. We could discuss Trayce being great. We could discuss Sale's strikeouts I guess.
-
This team is so bad. Please shut down Sale, Rodon, Q and Danks. Even Robertson. No reason to pitch any of those guys. Give the starts to EJ, Montas, Shark and whomever else.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Not at all coincidental. When we go to Sox game, I actually watch 90+% of the pitches. My wife probably watches half, if that. The rest of the time she is watching: Her phone Ads on the scoreboard Her phone Woman in the next section over with a bad haircut Her phone The left fielder's ass Her phone The Diet Pepsi vendor Awesome post. It's amazing how cell phones dominate life. Very sad. In the old days, can you believe once you left your house or work you were unreachable. If there was an emergency you'd hear the public address, "Will Robert Smith report to fan accomodation; Robert Smith." I respect those guys who go on dates and end the date when their date takes a cell phone call during dinner or whatever they are doing. It is disgusting and said how everybody is controlled by the cellphone. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) I admit it, if I am close to the action, I still bring my glove to games. Smart move, but a line smash still might carom off your glove. Who knows who the carom will hit. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) I was about 15 rows back from the Sox dugout on Sunday when a foul ball went into the club level but caromed downstairs and hit a lady right on top of the head. She had no idea it was coming. How was the lady? Blood? Knocked unconscious? QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 01:04 AM) Bottom line, when you go to a sporting event, you shouldn't be in danger. Exactly. No other business except sports enters a six month period of doing business aware that 50-100 patrons will be injured as a customer. The reason baseball has resisted change here is on the ticket is says let the buyer beware. If you are hit with a ball or bat the team is not liable. Problem is that may not be enough for a team to avoid liability. People must sue.

Regarding your post ... I know baseball can't be compared to the real world, but there are gads of White Sox employees behind the scenes involved trying to make a living here ... and failing. Can you believe the White Sox higher ups were dumb enough to believe this team would be able to vie for a one-game wildcard thus made NO MOVES at the break? In the real world, this is unacceptable and so many people are fired. For instance ... the projection was totally incorrect. Whether it was Hahn, Kenny, Robin ... unless it was Jerry (which it could have been), heads should roll. The Sox had a lot of bodies that could have been dealt for some valuable pieces. Just the fact they probably could have gotten rid of last winter's acquisitions and failed to pull the trigger on trades is unacceptable. We should right now be like Detroit, starting a rebuild without Melky, LaRoche, Robertson, Duke. Those 4 guys could have been dealt and think of the $$$ it woulda freed to try for better players. As far as your main point in your post, just as the Ozzie era pretty much had to end, this Robin era has to end. You all get mad at me for repeating myself, but nobody seems to address my comment. How in the hell can we expect to avoid a season-opening sweep against whatever Central Division team we open with next year and how in the hell can we expect to avoid the same pattern of s***tiness (bad performance on road; bad performance in all divisional games, only a so-so performance at home) under Robin and his staff?? The White Sox utter failure the last 2 seasons means the whole coaching staff and most of the front office needs to go. Now will it magically improve the White Sox? Probably not, but we know one thing: The pattern has been set in stone and this regime won't be able to change the discourse. Who is with me: FIRE EVERYBODY (staff and most of the everyday players). -- p.s. If they hire Dave Martinez or Alomar or Bell, I am going to puke. As far as GM ... Dombrowski was available. Now he's not.

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura
greg775 replied to Bananarchy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regarding futility of Robin ... until there's an obvious choice to replace him maybe the Sox should keep him another year. I mean does anybody really want a replacement of Dave Martinez, Alomar, Buddy Bell? These are the 3 we'd probably get as our leading candidates. I'd take Gardy right now but the Sox really don't have any good options out there. If Robin gets canned I'd be OK with a one-year deal for Ripken or Thome or somebody like that waiting until somebody good gets fired and emerges. I know you guys get mad at me for suggesting oldies, but what about Leyland for a one-year deal or LaRussa for one year or even Lasorda one year? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) If you are sitting close and nervous about it bring a glove.. You will look like a geek, who cares? No adult wants to lug around a glove before during and after a game. Put up the nets now. What other business would just assume 50 or more people are going to be injured at their place of business in a six month span? It's probably more than 50 a season.

As an addendum to this horrible story ... five dead in Chicago shootings on Wednesday morning. Geezus Chicago is a fricking warzone. What is going on? It sounds like it is a true warzone in Chicago. Government officials should be ashamed it's come to this. Does Chicago finally lead the world in killings per month? Per year? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0902-story.html

How do u change your personal info? Like my Rongey fan club label?

If they trade Sale or Q it better not be to the Cubs. Don't help them win a WS. Also it better be to an NL team. We don't want to face Sale. He'll mow down the Sox game after game year after year to get even. What you need to do is sign that Cuban player everybody was talking about a couple weeks ago if he can truly hit. Then you can plug him in left and get rid of Melky. Let Thompson play right and get rid of Avi. Be creative and maybe you can get something for Melky, Avi and throw in Robertson.

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition
greg775 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You guys don't even need to follow this. We play Central Div. teams all month which means a ton of losing. You are going to have to put up with about 8-10 wins, though, just law of averages. The rest will be L's so why follow it? You're going to get your wish. I had a chance AGAIN to see sox-royals for free friday night. Am gonna decline for same reason I did 2 weeks ago. Don't need to see the carnage in front of a full stadium. Sox are due to win ONE in Kauffman however, though I do not think they'll get that win this weekend. Three more Ls to KC. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 05:13 AM) The bullpen is mediocre but the real problem is the putrid offense. You hand over a 1 or 2 run lead enough and you're gonna blow games. That's what Hawk always gets wrong. Suddenly, when you're up 6-2 instead of 3-2 your bullpen looks a helluva lot better. Is it too late to trade Robertson and Duke? I'd suggest doing that. Although Nate threw up a meatball tonight that got bludgeoned into the upper reaches of the stadium. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) How is hawk acting weird? He made a few mistakes like saying Alexei hit the home run, not Avi. Stoney made some point and Hawk first said loudly, "What??" Then after Stoney repeated it, Hawk said he never heard of that before. He was speaking very loudly tonight. When he said that about Stoney's point, it's almost as if Stone didn't know if Hawk was being mean or weird, so Stoney didn't say anything. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 04:16 AM) Nice swing by Saladino. Beckham with an impressive bubble blown rounding 3rd I noticed that, too. I guess Beckham is a decent utility player. Sox have so many of those. Gillaspie was not one of them cause he is so bad defensively. But Beckham, Saladino, Sanchez, Flowers/Soto both are all part-time at best players. Same at DH as LaRoche should never step in the box against a lefty ever again. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 03:57 AM) Hey only two years and 10 million or so for Duke. But I guess him and Cooper had a great meeting before he signed!! Boy does he stink. He's another guy Fathom could pick up a bat and get a hit against, IMO. These lefties we have strike no fear in anybody. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 03:54 AM) Please don't give Saladino a starting job next year. Utility player at best I feel like this is a great post. The only way it isn't a great post is if .230-.240 is becoming a "good" batting average now in this day and age of batters unable to hit. Offense is dead and gone in baseball and I agree he blows, but like I said, what if .240 is the new .290? -- This is a perfect example of a bad, poorly coached (on fundamentals) baseball team vs. a good team. That bunt by the Twin was perfect. To exaserbate the problem, though, Duke throws it past first and game ova. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) 1. Trayce has strong position splits against lefties, and being a little careful with him is not a bad thing. 2. Adam LaRoche is still under contract for $13 million by the White Sox next year. Like it or not, Adam LaRoche is going to be on the Chicago White Sox in 2016 starting a lot of time at DH and 1b. 3. Adam LaRoche has had some hits lately, with a .930 OPS over his last 7 starts. 4. There is a righty on the mound. If you can get Adam LaRoche's confidence up and help him have a good last month, that at least improves your chances of getting something useful out of him for $13 million in 2016. When there is a righty starter on the mound, Adam LaRoche should be in the lineup, at least until the White Sox are ready to eat his contract. Exactly. LaRoche is going to play a TON because of the money he earns. We have to accept this. He will not be platooned ... ever. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 12:41 AM) Sale doesn't really pitch well in big games, it seems. He's letting Minnesota get to him with being crossed up, throwing some fastballs WAY off location I'd be interested to know how he'd fare in a pennant race Why did you type that, Tizzle? This wasn't a big game by any stretch. No pressure at all tonight. Sale throws way too many pitches. Good thing they just yanked him at 115 or so through 6 1/3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 01:17 AM) Why do they keep putting Saladino in the 2nd spot? Give Sanchez or Avi a try. It's disappointing how they have 30 or so free games and keep seemingly playing them as if it's May. I agree. It's frustrating even though Saladino sometimes tries to go with the pitch and drill singles to right, which I like. His batting average kind of blows and I wouldn't mind seeing him ninth for a while. -

Flowers' grounder there is why baseball players have such rotten batting averages nowadays - scouting. If a player is able to actually hit the ball, there's a GREAT chance the opposing team will have a shift on and the defense there to snuff out any potential hit. Flowers just now rapped a base hit up the middle ... however there was a defender there right over second base. That's why players must bunt and do funky things to beat shifts. Or they'll all be doomed to hitting between .230 and .250 with .250 suddenly becoming an awesome batting average. -
The more I think about this the more mad I get. If the Yankees claimed him, why not let him go?? He is an unnecessary expense and this team needs to revamp its lineup and needs the cash. He has been an average closer and there are other candidates to close. Why does a lousy team need a closer? Sox blew this one. Trade him.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) Because it's very hard to get a better closer at the price. Robertson is the least of their problems. If they are actually good soon, he'll be an asset. He's had some tough BABIP luck and some control problems but for the most part he's been very good. Worst case they suck next year and they get more for him at the deadline. We never move guys at the deadline. Just save the money, dump him given the chance and give Nate a tryout as closer.
