  1. QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) It takes me about 2 hours to get to a Sox game, each way. Why would I want to spend all that time and money going to watch lousy baseball when I can go to the local park and watch kids play and having fun. I have no desire to go. It's pretty risky to go to a Sox game nowadays. For instance two of the three games where I had free tickets but turned 'em down to Sox vs. KC in KC the Sox were the normal, boring, horrific, embarrasing White Sox. However, the third time woulda been the charm. That was the Friday game in which the Sox won something like 10-1 or 12-1. But if you have to pay, you just can't go to a White Sox game. They are not worth the hard-earned money to risk on a shutout or error fest or Shark implosion. Now if you love the ballpark food and ballpark atmosphere and just have to see a big league game, that's a different story. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Good grief talk about living in the past. Ozzie is gone, accept it and move on. It's just a message board. Nobody's 'living' in the past or even present on the message board, just spending leisure time and commenting. It's not that big a deal.
  2. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Having leury pitch is one thing... What if alexei seriously hurt his arm yesterday? Reminds me of Toby hall playing 1b in a spring training game. His pitch count was getting up there for one inning. I was getting a little concerned for Lexi. He was fine, though.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) They could backload some deals though. In 2017, they have roughly $70.5 million committed to Abreu, Sale, Q, Melky, Robertson, Duke, and Eaton. That figure doesn't include any arb raises for anyone else either. 2017 $$ Cabrera $17 million Abreu $13 million Robertson $12 million Sale $12 million Quintana $7 million Duke $5.5 million Eaton $4 million. Rodon will still be cheap at that point along with Fulmer and Johnson if they go that route. They should have some wiggle room if you look past 2016. I don't know if I should laugh or cry at Melky's salary for 17. You didn't even put LaRoche's salary in here.
  4. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) I would ask why??? There were "rumors that Shark and Cooper do not get a long. If true, it might very well explain how Shark went from decent to horrible. If that is the reason, why would you bring him back since that would be a cancer in the clubhouse, especially w young pitchers. You hit the nail on the head! That's one of Shark's excuses that will still land him 18-25 mill a year for 5 years from somebody. His agent will say he and the pitching coach hated each other, also that he's a better NL pitcher. Also he only used a couple pitches to stretch his arm out once the season was over. He had a couple great starts that he can tell teams to look at on film. As far as cancer in clubhouse, sorry to say the Sox are past that point of worrying about that. After a couple years of being an irrelevant, lousy team, our clubhouse is that of a loser. That really can't be changed until the team somehow starts winning and winning big again. Sox truly are a mess right now. Irrelevant losing franchise. Polar opposite of 2005. Top to bottom franchise in 10 years.
  5. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) Have you ever bothered looking something up yourself? Or do you just ask your wife or kids to get answers for you? Why are u so mean? Are u anti-Greg for some reason?
  6. To any Soxtalker who has time to answer this question ... Let's say I quit my job tomorrow and decided to be a consultant and work for myself and needed coverage. How do I get Obamacare or would Blue Cross individual coverage be cheaper? Anyhow, what is the protocol to get Obamacare? How would I do it? What are the procedures, the step by step instructions to take? Thank u!
  7. We should do a mini poll. Who would you rather have manage the Sox next year if these were the only choices: Robin or Ozzie or Bevington? I'd take ... OZZIE!
  8. You are correct. I'd release Olt now lest they are tempted to bring him to spring training. Might as well ask Shark if he wants to keep starting or not. He did agree to come to the Sox for a year and not block the trade, so we owe him that since the games are meaningless and it's kind of funny to see his ERA keep going up.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:28 AM) How else do you fix the fact that we're below average at 7 positions again? If we're going to compete next year we can't afford to just sign one guy and we need solid upgrades at many positions. Good point. It's scary. Sox as you say are below average at ... catcher, third base, second base, DH, leftfield, rightfield. That's six positions. I gave Lexi average at ss. I guess our only above average everyday players are: center field, first base.
  10. The Sox are an embarrassment. Lot of people stealing money. Can you believe how bad the team's home record is this year? It's pathetic. Sitting right at .500 I believe. I don't see how anybody can buy season tickets for this trash next season. Sox are not going to be able to change the squad dramatically UNLESS somebody's willing to take our high priced guys off our hands which is doubtful. Hopefully the Sox can talk an NL team into taking LaRoche and Melky off the squad's hands. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd have rather given Viciedo or Trayce the 550 at bats than Melky. Viciedo woulda hit .220 with about 25 bombs; Trayce, who knows what he woulda hit? So the Sox have blown chunks 2 straight seasons now. Prospects of a third straight lousy season are very likely. What ya gonna do about it, Jerry?
  11. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 03:34 AM) Do you really think he's going to get that much money? He is going to end the season with 5+ ERA! Yes. There are plenty of excuses he can use to get the $$$s to go back to the NL. Same as Cueto. NL teams to pay the $$$ for the big 'name' pitchers.
  12. Lexi and Leury do the job. Glad I tuned in in time to watch. Can you believe how bad Shark is? Some GM is gonna give that guy 15-20 mill a year for 4-5 years?? My gawd, sports are disgusting in how they throw away money.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) I can remove it or change it to something different. If it's removed, you get a baseball related one as a default. Yeah, can u get rid of the Rongey one? I can't think of anything else off the top of my head to put in its stead. Thanx.
  14. You are good bowler, code. I have a subtle curveball. My career best is 245. It took me well into adulthood to finally break 200 as I'd choke in the 10th frame. Then I finally went crazy and shattered it. What are all your career bests in bowling?
  15. How's Harbaugh been received and working out in Michigan? Does he walk on water or is he considered human and the scrub QB that once reeked for the Bears? I'm not a Harbaugh guy. Sometimes seems rude in interviews. How's he been with the Michigan press?
  16. Do we have to worry about the Cubs reaching the WS?? Will Pitt take care of Chicago in the one-game playoff?
  17. Royals fans are really worried. They are upset with Cueto big time. The Royals slide makes one wonder how in the hell they pulled away so far so quickly and never were challenged in the Central this season. Their starting pitching is putrid right now. Meatball after meatball. Their defense has been made human with the benching of Infante for Zobrist who is no good at second, lol. Rios remains a cancer just by being Rios. The bullpen has had some sore arms and stuff. There's a good chance KC will be fine and cruise to the WS. But the Royals have definitely reeked especially since the Sox kicked their ass finally. Makes you wonder if the Sox manned up earlier and beat the Royals a few times they'd have had a much worse record. Many times they'd be struggling then get well on a diet of White Sox ineptitude.
  18. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 06:00 AM) [troll]RV replacment? How about that Ozzie guy? [/troll] Ok, if the mods want me to cease and desist, just ask. But I've been thinking about this. ... In light of Danks' and Beckham's quotes in that article ... how bout a return to Oz? Yes as White Sox manager. He knows how to motivate baseball players to get off their high paid asses and compete. He makes the game fun. He is able to take the pressure off lousy players like Melky and LaRoche by being a colorful manager. How bout a one-year contract for Ozzie with tons of incentives. Ozzie loves money. Sign him one year for 1.2 million. He gets 200,000 if at season's end Reinsdorf decides he was good with the media and not too controversial. He gets 200,000 for a Central title and 100,000 for a wildcard berth. He gets 800,000 if we reach the ALDS and 1 million if we win the world series. Meanwhile, Robin gets promoted to Buddy Bell's job. Bell is fired!!! I like this a lot. Please, Ozzie Guillen can manage. We all know that. -- I am serious. If this post is out of line let me know and I'll stop. I was suspended over Ozzie/Jenks arguments in the past and would like to stay qualified to post.
  19. People that say he quit slay me. How come that is never mentioned in the media? Cause it's stupid. The Sox wanted him gone and he quickly negotiated a deal. This is big-boy sports. The White Sox did not want him. They chose KW. He bolted. So who cares?? Seriously. This quitting thing baffles me. I've NEVER seen it mentioned in the media. The only thing they mentioned is the hatred of Ozzie/Kenny and all the non-PC stuff Ozzie said to the press. Quitting? That team quit on Ozzie and he merely left. None of you wanted him back for the final year on his deal, anyway. He did you all a favor. Who cares if he quit with a week to go and why is that NEVER mentioned in the media?? Cause it's a non issue to most.
  20. Lexi with the putrid at bat. Man, he couldn't lay off that crap pitch on 3-2? I see Johnny baby pitched well tonight again. Sweet.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 02:41 AM) What policy positions of his do you support Flat tax, baby!!! No IRS!! http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/ben-ca...ands-10-issues/
  22. I'm falling for Dr. Ben. He needs to be our next president, folks. He is not a politician and simply cares about what's best for our country. At some point we have to let the lifetime politicians know (Hillary, Bush, et. all) that we don't care for do-nothing rhetoric. We want the successful surgeon. Or should want the successful surgeon.
  23. The Sox need desperately ... a.) power bats. Anybody available from Cuba that the team could sign? Or is Viciedo gonna be ready for the comeback? b.) bullpen. The bullpen is horrific. Can it be fixed? c.) defense. The defense blows. Can it be fixed? d.) Some righthanded veteran starting pitcher who can pitch effectively. All four of these areas must be improved drastically.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) Over the past 10 seasons we're 29th of 30 teams in the big leagues in defense. Only Cleveland is worse. The White Sox regularly flat out don't care about defense. The best teams over that time have won an extra ~50 games due to defense. I wish Sox had better defense, better bullpen and some guys who could hit home runs in the Cell besides Abreu.
  25. Today's game is ANOTHER reminder of how bad this team is and how far it has to go. It's not just going to magically start winning in April. I do hope we finish last in the Central if we can't finish first. Sox haven't exactly beat up on Detroit this season, either. One thing about the Sox. Buying a season ticket is really a bad investment if your goal is to have fun. Now if you just LOVE the ballpark and got to be there 30 times a season and give the rest of your tickets away, fine. But look at today's game. During the Robin era, there's a good chance if you go to a Sox home game you get what happened today. Sox are one under .500 now at home. That just blows. Wonder how they are gonna fix this mess. Even with 'arguably' the best starting staff in the AL we are a pathetic team.
