White Sox vs Blue Jays 5/27 game thread

If I were Robertson I'd ask to go out in the 10th. Why not turn a bad day into a good one right here? -

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 27, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) The Jays will win this game. I am 99.99% certain. I've been good at predictions this year and this game had/has a feel of a win to it. Just cause we can't get swept by everybody. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 27, 2015 -> 08:43 PM) Sanchez non bunt hurts now. I didn't see it. I'm assuming he couldn't get bunt down with first and second nobody out? If so that's par for the fundamental course. -

Well, even Robertson is human now. I can think of 3 saves he's blown. Sox are due to win a game. This one may not be over yet. -

I heard the announcers say last night's rally was a "season changer." Sox have helped change the seasons of Cleveland and Minnie, that is for sure. Now maybe Toronto. Anybody else? -
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ May 27, 2015 -> 04:00 AM) Indeed. To turn up the heat a bit, maybe nobody in Chicago gives a damn about the Sox except for low SES Southsiders, who have less discretionary income than most and who stay far the hell away from the park when they've got a dog on their hands (which is most of the time)? That's probably true. I would assume the true blue Southside fans know a lousy team when they see one and merely watch the games or part of them on TV. I bet a lot of companies buy tickets and a lot of fans go for free when they claim those tickets. I bet all of the skyboxes are sold, too. So the Sox aren't hurting. And you're still going to get a lot of fans to go to 1-2 games a year even when the team blows. Now when the team is great, it's a different story. Royals are averaging over 30,000 this year and until this year wouldn't draw 20,000 for a weeknight game all season. 18,000 or so was a good crowd til they reached the WS.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 27, 2015 -> 04:15 AM) Doesn't help when the bottom of the order doesn't get on, huh? Yeah, I really do not know how many opportunities he's had. He's OK but he needs to draw some walks or his career on base percentage is going to be awful beyond belief.
-
He has 11 walks in 167 plate appearances. He has one stolen base. I still think his 4 RBI total is embarrassing but last time I brought that up I got mocked as lead off guys aren't supposed to knock in runs. Still ... four RBIs in 167 plate appearances to me is kind of lousy.
-
I've become jaded. Because whenever a new guy arrives, he seems to always start slowly, at least the hitters (Robertson, Duke were on fire and quite effective out of the gates). But if we bring up a hitter or acquire a hitter, it seems to me he always starts horrifically. I'm not talking about a home run on opening day for LaRoche; I'm talking the first 25 at bats.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2015 -> 03:22 AM) That's why you see if anyone wants Samardzija, assuming you know how much he wants in free agency. Alexei is another person that could be moved. I wish they'd leak the info to national baseball writers which guys are available and start the ball rolling. A team is going to want to get as much as it can out of Shark cause he will not be worth the kind of cash he's going to ask for as a free agent. He's a rental for whomever gets him, so if we want to get a haul for him the trade must be soon. Nobody's gonna give us 3 great prospects for Shark in August. In May? Maybe.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 27, 2015 -> 03:19 AM) the worse thing we can do is panic and start selling off the team. The season is still young and even if we don't get into the playoffs this season we have a good solid group of talented players for the future Disagree on all counts. The only way I would give this unit a chance and not trade everybody but Sale/Abreu is if the Sox fire Ventura and we see if this crew actually can play ball better under a new manager. If the interim is somebody like Buddy Bell or Cooper, however, scratch that. Those guys would be just as ineffective as Robin IMO. I'm a little surprised you think this crew can get the job done, el rockin.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 26, 2015 -> 10:06 PM) I think a big part of being a Sox fan is we are notably the most pessimistic fans in the country. We will watch the team from a far when they are bad and every loss is the end of the season. Optimism my friend, only comes when they win it all. I disagree. We're actually knowledgable. How can you be that fired up when the defense is this bad? When the baserunning (and base stealing, lol) is so bad? When the pitching has been blah for the most part and the hitting has been rotten? At least tonight's game had highlights. A lot of games have no highlights. Didn't somebody post that the Sox have scored one run seven times and been shutout twice already? Yikes. We're not that pessimistic; we've just been given very weird baseball to watch the past few seasons. What are we supposed to do? Actually believe the Sox can beat Central Division teams, catch the damn ball and play smart baseball before the team does it for a month at least? And not fall 8 games back in May?

QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 27, 2015 -> 03:28 AM) This will be a 1-9 trip. I can just see it now. The 1-9, 0-10 disastrous stinker of a trip usually is that one out East in September or late August, right? I tell you, it's not easy being closer. I can think of two games Robertson has blown. He's been unhittable in so many others. But he blows a couple more and he'll be considered average at best in some circles. Remember when Reed blew an occasional save and people wanted his head on a platter? I won't rip Robertson as he's been great, but my point is a closer can turn into a mediocre closer after 4-5 blown saves. Horrible loss, BTW. I didn't watch the game. Hopefully the hitters took some pitches and hit to the opposite field and are starting to get it rather than pulling everything and getting lucky when the other team isn't in a shift. Did the hitters have a clue tonight? Opp field liners?

QUOTE (spiderman @ May 26, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) 4-7 or 3-8 is probably the two most likely outcomes of this road trip. 5-6 or 2-9 being the next candidates. If this road trip goes the way I think it will, they are likely 10 games out of 1st place by early June. Everyday that goes by means Samardzia has less value with his contract status so Hahn will need to be in a spot where a major decision will need to be made early. It's hard to see the White Sox getting major value for him if they wait until end of July. It's easier to see the team getting good value with a move in early June should the wheels fall off. If the White Sox just tread water, say 5-6 on this road trip, and are 8 games back, what then? The same questions still apply. If Hahn wants to resign a guy who won't talk until free agency hits, do they take that risk? They would get a draft pick back in that scenario (to my understanding). So, a major decision looms Good post. Trade Shark and Robertson NOW and get a huge ass haul in return.
-
I guess that was a joke about the game being fast. Everything the guys say and do this season is that of a team that knows it is horses***. I'm surprised Robin didn't add another good thing was the team was able to go watch the Blackhawks game since the shutout was so fast.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:51 AM) And literally no one will ever sign with the Sox again. How do we know these players aren't anxious to get the hell out of Chicago, or at least get off this lousy team? Maybe they'd welcome contending. I'm thinking about sending guys to the Giants, Dodgers, Yankees, Cardinals, Royals, teams like that.
-
Exciting finish. Sad ending. It's tough to come back all the way from 3 goals down. I don't know what to think about this one. Definitely a disappointing ending. Hawks got caught with their pants down on that last goal. Crawford made the initial save, nobody to clean up and get the puck the f*** outta there. Easy carom for the goal. Good comeback or bad loss? I can't decide yet. Stunned.

I'm kind of excited about prospects of a midseason "do-over." I remember one year the Sox acquired Bobby Bonds, not Barry but Bobby. He was so bad they recognized the problem and dumped him. I believe they did the same with Dan Pasqua. They also knew they erred in acquiring Swisher and also that lousy leadoff hitter Erstad. Dumped all of 'em before the fans picketed. If Hahn does this right, he can get so many good prospects for Shark, Lexi, LaRoche, Melky, Robertson, Duke it'll make our heads spin. Please Mr. Hahn, start planning some amazing trades. I still say we might be able to steal a few KC prospects for Shark. They are talking daily here about Cueto. Why not Shark? Robertson will be a huge chip for a contender! Don't mistakenly keep these guys we acquired last offseason in hopes they turn it around next year. When a guy is a bust, he's a bust (can u say Adam Dunn?) Surely some of you agree with me?!
-
If he needs a scope or procedure, then by gosh, put him on the shelf for a while. As much as it sucks that he gets hurt a lot, you have to medically take care of problems when they occur. Fix him even if it means a scope.

QUOTE (harkness @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:41 AM) It's ventura. You could bring in Mike Trout and he would start sucking under this group of incompetent zombies. How come White Sox players rarely earn their paychecks? Very few guys are worthy of the cash they are receiving every paycheck.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:41 AM) Been doing that all season. Has the look of someone who lost their bat speed. Same goes for Alexei Is LaRoche a clone of the 'old' Paulie? I'd rather Paulie not retired. Couldn't he do what LaRoche is doing at the bare minimum? Paulie forever! QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:43 AM) George Kottaras is hitting .310/.512/.517 in 43 PA at AAA Nice post. I'd bring him up now, release Flowers, let Soto stay til we decide which minor league guy is backup. Flowers and Soto are not big league caliber sorry to say. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:53 AM) This team's plate discipline and pitch recognition is embarrassing. I read the whole thread. Fathom had some nice posts, this included. QUOTE (harkness @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:55 AM) Shut out by a guy with a 6.91 era. Unbelievable. Our hitters are just plain abysmal. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) Stone going off on the defense Yay! Love when Stoney and Hawk tell it like it is. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) 2 non-infield hits tonight. Worst offensive effort of the season by far. Season is in critical status right now. Season has long been over. Hate to be a reactionary, but cmon. No defense, no team speed when competing against the likes of KC and Minnie and Detroit means fourth or fifth in Central. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) Time for Steverson and Robin to go. Yeppers. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:23 AM) If anyone will be let go of, it will be Todd Steverson. Hopefully they can his ass now. Ah, let the cliche begin. This is the first thread all year that Steverson is getting singled out a lot. Not ripping you. I do agree. I would prefer Seitzer, a Seitzer clone or BIG HURT TO THE RESCUE NOW!!! 2 month conract to fix these guys. Or Paulie. After hearing his philosophy on hitting during the game broadcast Sunday I want Paulie!! QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:37 AM) This road trip will go down in the annals of Sox history as "The Swirsky Trip". LOL. Great line. QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:40 AM) Alexei wouldn't talk to reporters after the game. Do we even know what his voice sounds like? Ugh. Now our guys are not talking to media? Another sign of a bad, bad, baseball team.
-
Did you guys see Marcum got lit up today? As expected. Sox need a new offensive philosophy obviously, as well as better players.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) @CST_soxvan White Sox at Jays, 6:07, CSN: Eaton cf, Beckham 3b, Cabrera lf, Abreu 1b, LaRoche dh, Garcia rf, Ramirez ss, Soto c, Bonifacio 2b. Noesi P By big league standards that is a pathetic lineup. It's probably a miracle Sox are just three under. On paper, Cabrera, Abreu, LaRoch, Garcia, Ramirez is a decent fivesome though albeit with little power and speed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) I think the bigger problem is that some people think a baseball ticket entitles them to way more then it actually does. Baseball is a sport. It is entertainment. It is a game. It isn't some sort of place for people to get an ego fulfillment because their team owes it to them, or some weird 21st century entitlement idea. The ideas about stomping and pouting and demanding the team do this and that because they owe it to you, the fans, is just silly. I don't know when that idea came into sports, but people need to get over it. These aren't gladiators. This isn't life and death on the line. The whole idea that staying away and quitting somehow makes you better than people who don't, because the team isn't delivering something it apparently owes to you to get you to show up is just mindblowing to me. Even worse is taking to the internet in an effort to get some sort of cyber pat on the back because you are all sad because the team hasn't won enough for you. Baseball is not an entitlement program. It doesn't owe you a regular championship as if you get a trophy just for signing up as a fan. If you need that to feel good about yourself, sign up for another team. I don't get your point. We should love baseball because it's baseball? The greatest sport on earth? Well I'd argue that the umpires and players have tried to ruin that (pace of play is appalling and strike zone squeezing abominable). However back to my point. Baseball is big business and fans deserve a good product. The product the White Sox have been throwing out there for some time now is not the worst in the industry but very bad.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ May 25, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) Buehrle and AJ interest me, as does Plawecki Buehrle would be great but he should never have been allowed to leave in the first place.
