  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 25, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) At least no Hawk bulls*** about how this guy has never looked this good. Pitchers know they need not have good stuff they just need to throw close to the zone and sox will get themselves out. So true. Do the Sox hitters realize how pitchers approach their at bats? Easiest outs in baseball I'd imagine.
  2. That would be neat if you are right. Generally, however, a team doesn't suck radically at home on a homestand and go do something that you suggest is possible. Rather I think a 3-7 road trip is more likely. Or 2-8.
  3. QUOTE (spiderman @ May 25, 2015 -> 05:47 AM) Too many easy outs in this lineup. Not enough impact hitters. I was just thinking it's really hard to like this team. It generally falls behind early, the hitters won't take walks and their approach at the plate is very annoying. Do you guys agree with me or is it just me? This team is hard to love, at least for me. The only time I love this team is when Robertson is pitching for some reason. Agree or disagree on the likeability of this club?
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ May 25, 2015 -> 04:11 AM) **refuses to engage with greg** I wasn't trying to argue. I was wondering if soxtalk was happy with LaRoche's bat or not. Legit question not trying to be a dick at this time.
  5. QUOTE (spiderman @ May 25, 2015 -> 04:46 AM) This year looks to be no different. 8 games behind two very good teams and another surprise team in the Twins. Another depressing year to be a White Sox fan. After an off-season in which the team appeared to address many holes, they still have an offense that lacks impact. I can't believe how early the Sox are out of it again. School lets out and team is buried already.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2015 -> 01:34 AM) Currently he's a disaster out there. Damn, u just can't win baseball games with bad leftfielder, bad rightfielder, lousy armed centerfielder, lousy armed catcher, horrific defender at third and first. Just can't do it. I'd say two games over .500 is this team's high water mark, 25 below .500 is the low water mark. Will prolly finish about 12 below .500.
  7. Garcia is a good player. He needs to learn to settle down just a bit IMO. Can you imagine if he was a bit more selective at the plate? His defense? I haven't watched enough games to say he's a disaster out there. To the experts ... is he adequate in rf or is he a disaster defensively?
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 25, 2015 -> 12:55 AM) Some people have this fantasy that there are trophies for certain types of fans. When you go buy a ticket they don't care what type of fan you are. I have changed. The Sox won it in 05 and I stayed loyal to those players through thick and thin. I was suspended twice for arguments in which I backed guys like Bobby Jenks, Ozzie, Jermaine Dye, etc. Now none of those players remain so I am a bitter mean "show me the product" fan now. There are no current players I feel the need to defend cause they haven't done squat yet. Just win baby and shut fans like Greg up.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 24, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) Laroche just seems now to be the 'flavor of the day.' Some need someone to hate on. The entire offense is bad and our super stud starters have not been as sharp as we would have hoped. Lots of issues right now, but whether we win this year or not I think we have talent and they just need to gel as a team. I think things will get better So are we saying LaRoche is a good hitter? Are we happy with what he's put up? Just wondering.
  10. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 24, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) I'm still not giving up yet. I would feel much much worse if we had put together great stats and had a 19-22 record to show for it because we kept losing 6 games by one run to win the 7th by 14. What's not sustainable are the stats our players are putting up. This team has already shown the ability to put one winning streak together, and another 8-9-10 game stretch of really good baseball isn't just possible, it's an eventuality. We have no hope of the division if KC stays this hot but I refuse to believe this particular group of players doesn't have an 85-90 win season in them. You are a better fan than I. I know it's not over yet, but this year I refuse to get sucked into the "stages of the season" crap. The "it's still early" nonsense. My eyes tell me this team blows. We shall see if they prove me wrong.
  11. 2-8 or 3-7 road trip should about eliminate this bad team
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) Just to keep poitning this out....Jose Abreu is a major part of the problem right now. I thought he was pretty good except for his sloth-like game on defense.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) All matters what direction they want to go. I think they will go for it again next year, which means a Sale and Q stays. If they are looking to rebuild and trade veterans, then one of them should be dealt. Fathom, you can't 'go for it' with a defense this putrid. They aren't winning anything and I would think they'll FINALLY figure out you have to catch the ball and throw the ball and start to rebuild.
  14. QUOTE (reiks12 @ May 24, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Yeah but Sale is one of the only two marketable players on this team. They aren't going to trade him. Not with the abysmal attendance figures and low popularity in the city. I bet there are a lot of people like me. Now that all the 05 guys are long gone and it's a new group of players, I have no attachment to any of them. So trade any or all of 'em if it makes us better, except Abreu (maybe Sale).
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) LaRussa is a Diamondbacks executive. Leyland is happily retired. Both are in their 70's and don't want to manage anymore. Stop mentioning their names. I did not know they were in their 70s. How do you know Leyland is happy? He seemed like a baseball lifer.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:09 PM) If Dodgers want to give the sox Seager and Urias, then sign me up. Better yet, those 2 guys plus 3 more. Seriously, it's time for a killer deal if we trade Sale. A difference making deal for the Sox future.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) Begging a guy to come in for 1-2 years to "save the franchise" sounds silly to me. We need someone who can take time and give the team a chance to grow up and recover from this trash. I don't know. I want a proven difference maker. QUOTE (flavum @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) Come on now. Be passionate, but don't be stupid. Why stupid? LaRussa has to hate retirement; ditto Leyland. These guys can get the dysfunction out of the Sox!
  18. 8-1 against a team that swept us in Minnie. We've lost six of seven to Minnie, lol. I swear, don't let Paulie get on a plane. Interim manager with Big Hurt the hitting coach. Hire LaRussa this offseason to manage. Beg Tony to save the franchise. If not him, Leyland. Beg them.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) Why not trade Sale then? Especially it he's a two-pitch pitcher now, why not deal him before his elbow explodes? It won't happen, as this team will try to compete next year. You could be right. The Twins were hitting him so hard it's like it was on a tee. I do love Sale and Abreu, though.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) Avi has been far and away the most exciting hitter for the Sox this year. I like Avi, but it still pains me to watch him swing at every pitch.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 24, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) How many of you actually foresaw all the moves we made performing well below career norms? I'm not buying this sudden revisionist history from a lot of you. Trading them doesn't make sense either, because we'd be selling low on basically everyone. Even Robertson probably wouldn't get much in return, he's a reliever and we're paying him a ton of money. It sucks because if everyone just had the season they had last year things would be looking very good. Of course we should have expected sone regression but not to this degree and not from everyone. Pretty much have to stick with it and see if some of the guys can turn it around enough to be valuable by the deadline. I disagree, because at the deadline teams will be clamoring to get Shark if we leak it to the press he's available. There will be a race to get Shark and Robertson, even Lexi. These are key pieces (on paper) to a contender. Melky is a valuable bat; ditto LaRoche (on paper and to fan bases; we know better). I think it is a perfec scenario. That's why I said TRADE everybody except Abreu/Sale.
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 24, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) I iust hope they sell early to get a jump on the rest of those that are out of it. Me too. There have to be some guys who can field and yet hit .280 with power (for the Cell).
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) It's a strange situation, as almost all of Hahn's moves have made sense on paper. For one reason or another, a lot of them haven't worked out so far. The most logical explanation is the players just have underachieved significantly to their ability. To me, the following moves were good and made sense, regardless of what the production has been: - Eaton trade - Reed trade - Abreu signing - Melky signing - Samardzija deal - Robertson deal - Boni/Beckham deal I disagree on Melky. That was a ridiculous acquisition. I do agree with you about guys underachieving. I'm at the point I can't stand the sight of several guys at bat, which is not good for Memorial Day. Guys who make me ill at the plate: Eaton, Melky, LaRoche, Flowers, Soto, Avi only because he swings at each and every pitch; Lexi and Gillaspie. It's not fun to watch any of those guys bat which again, is sad since it's only May. Even the great Abreu who I love swings at every single pitch.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) Unfortunately, LaRoche and Ramirez aren't currently playing well enough that anyone is going to give up anything useful for them, and trading Samardzija at the deadline doesn't save much money. Furthermore, if they just trade off Ramirez and they have to choose from "Anderson or Sanchez" as his replacement next year, do you have confidence in those guys making this a competitive roster? Yes they'd save money by trading LaRoche and Ramirez, but who replaces them? We'd have $22 million to spend yes, but we'd have weaknesses at SS, DH, 2b?, 3b, and C again. I disagree. Semien was gobbled up. Ditto DeAza. I think LaRoche and Lexi and Melky will be popular targets of NL teams. Shark will be wanted by everybody. Ditto Robertson and Duke. TRADE, TRADE, TRADE.
  25. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 24, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Everyone was happy with the deals. People wanted Melky, LaRoche, Jeff, and Emilio Not me. People got mad at me for ripping on Melky. Emilio was a joke of a signing. Shuck as well. They are inconsequential bodies. Shark sounded good cause in theory we'd have an above average big three of Shark, Sale and Q.
