  1. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 19, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) Did you really just refer to yourself in the third person? I don't know why you think Hilary is a shoe in. Wait for the candidates to emerge, see a few debates/caucuses and then see where the wind blows. 2016 election is a long way off right meow. The article Caulfield posted said she was a lock. All I've heard is she's a lock. She just has to show up, so to speak, to win. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) John McCain was 72 in the 2008 election, Hillary Clinton will turn 69 in October of 2016. Asking for detailed health records for a person that age I have no issue with. Saying we shouldn't vote for someone because they're too old? Says more about you than about the person you're opposing. You missed my point. YOUNG IDEAS are needed. Look at the technology. Look at the demands of the world. Several experts say we're going to have the worst depression in mankind and anarchy could (has it already?) hit the streets. I want somebody to tell me WHAT SHE BRINGS TO THE TABLE. I'm open. I just see nothing but a mean woman who, yes, is very old and has very very little to offer. Bill Clinton, who is normally very likeable, even he came across as a crusty jerk on Letterman the other day.

    2015 TV Thread

Was going to start its own thread: Letterman vs. the field. Have you been enjoying or ignoring the end of Letterman? I thought Hanks was awesome last night. He was on fire as a guest. Eddie Vedder was awesome too playing "Better Man." Some other celebs have been awesome as guests the last 2-3 weeks. My question was: Do you think TV execs told Dave it was time to go out on his own terms? Fallon I guess is a sensation with amazing ratings. My final point is ... Letterman acts like he's made the wrong decision to retire now that it's here. My take is ... he's leaving one job as a talk show host. It seems to me some network would hire him to pretty much do whatever he wants. He can work another 10 years in TV if he wants I'd think, just not as a talk show host. Uh, he's got quite the resume if he wants to continue to stay relevant on TV. Think of the money Barbara Walters has made the last 10 years, past the retirement age.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 6, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) The White Sox aren't trading Robertson. BTW, the World Series bound Cubs are now just as far out of 1st place as the White Sox. Haven't the Sox been red hot since this post? Pretty sure this is when Sox started to play some ball.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) A guy has to be pretty burnt out if minimum wage at Party City is better than baseball. Yes. I was going to say he'll need to have a career to make enough money to support the family. Must be a hard decision. If he's close to making the bigs, he could make a lot of money in a short period of time. If he's not going to make it, better to get going on a real job. But Party City won't cut it $$ wise. Baseball teams should cut out the "clubhouse fees." Embarrassing a billion dollar industry makes the minor leaguers pay for peanut butter sandwiches. The NBA is quite different, NFL too. No minor league. Just join the big leagues out of "college" and rake in the money.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Greg happy! Hulk smash! I just for the life of me cannot see why a great country like ours would put Hillary Clinton in charge. I mean are you serious?? David Letterman is retiring. Isn't Hillary older than Dave? Why would a country with I-phones, amazing technology want somebody that old to be president? I just don't get it. I saw Bill Clinton on Letterman the other day and he seemed OLD. I mean, is Hillary prepared to lead us in a world with all these international tensions (beheadings, nuke threats, threats on our own soil, etc?) Why in the hell is Hillary Clinton a good choice to be president is all I want to know??? I've said it before and will say it until somebody explains it to me ... why is Hillary being awarded the oval office as some bizarre lifetime achievement award? Give her a participation trophy and let somebody with young ideas run the country. I just don't get what people see in Hillary, who by all accounts is one, mean elderly woman. How much proof of this do we need??? Disclaimer: forgive me for the age bias thing. Perhaps I didn't word it with compassion but do we really want an elderly woman to be our president for 8 years??? Are you all going to be jumping for joy the day she wins the election?? If so, please tell Greg WHY??? Enlighten me.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2015 -> 03:09 AM) Minnesota---trailed 4-0 Detroit---trailed 1-0 Cleveland---trailed 3-0 KCR---trailed 1-0, 2-1 KCR---trailed 3-0 Detroit---trailed 1-0, 2-1 Detroit---trailed 1-0, 3-1, 3-2, 4-3, 5-3, 6-3 Milwaukee---trailed 1-0 Milwaukee---trailed 1-0 Oakland---trailed 4-2, 5-2, 6-2 Oakland---trailed 2-0 Oakland---trailed 2-1 Cleveland---trailed 1-0 Little known fact: The franchise was first known as the Sioux City Cornhuskers in 1893. Finally, how can the White Sox, after winning five in a row on the road, and having Kluber AND Sale on the mound, only draw 17,712 fans? What was wrong with the weather? Blackhawks again? That's actually not too bad a crowd for Monday night in May, right? About 20,000 every night cept Thursday, Friday, Saturday? Sox need to make hay on those nights until they convince the fans they are a legit contender. They are playing like a contender for sure, but after that gosh-awful, pathetic start it will take a while for the non-crazed fan to believe that this is nothing more than one winning streak in a long season.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 19, 2015 -> 03:12 AM) just from experience, as someone with bad knees, I could tell right away it was his knee. THen he gestured to Herm and now they are saying "inflammation", which is the body's response to injury and usually not a good sign although not necessarily that uncommon for a pro athlete. Get him on the Derrick Rose foam rolling yoga plan. We need ptatc here and fast! When I hear swelling of the knee I think arthroscope and he could miss 2-4 weeks, right? You can't let it continue all year I'd imagine but ptatc can tell us for sure.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 19, 2015 -> 03:58 AM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 4m4 minutes ago Avi Garcia exited with inflammation in knee. Doesn't sound too serious Nice, but sounds a bit ominous and scary this early in season. Arthroscope in future?
  9. Great win. Gotta love what Eaton did in scoring from third on the ball escaping the catcher. You know how HUGE and impressive that play was? Amazing baseball savvy/speed by Eaton. Lexi with the nice leather and Melky too. Sanchez with the game-winning hit? Damn. Sox are hot. Not to mention great pitching. Just saw in the play by play Avi got hurt? Is he OK? Comiskey sounded loud! This city is ready for a White Sox winner again. It's time.
  10. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 18, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) I hope the same people who were blaming Robin for the team's bad start are giving him credit for the team's turn around I'll give him credit. In many organizations he'd have been fired after that Twins' series. That was a point where they easily could have canned him and nobody would have thought it unjustified. Lot of ball to be played but it's a miracle in my mind the team is .500.
  11. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 17, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) Robin has been a different manager during this road trip. I'm not saying we all should love him now, but yesterday night holding the short leash on the BP won us a game. I was watching the game with a Sox fan and I said, 'Time for the four-out save' and Robin did indeed get the hack reliever out of there. Robin didn't sit back and let the relievers blow it. He went with his horse and got another win. I didn't think Hahn and Kenny's calling out Robin was going to help anything, but it appears to have woken everybody up.
  12. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ May 18, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) He looks like Miguel Cabrera every game. Hahahaha He's hitting about .350. He looks like the real deal.
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 17, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) This will not last at all. Whether it does or not, he is excelling and actually looks like a good pitcher. I say give him credit for now and enjoy this. The guy has been good; several other pitchers can't say the same of late, including some relievers who have been iffy (not meaning Robertson who I think is amazing).
  14. I ripped Shark in the game thread, but obviously he got it together and shut up critics like me. Nice job, actually, in finishing off the A's. Big walk by Beckham. Nice to get some breaks like the smash off the pitcher's glove, the catcher firing the ball past first baseman, etc. Hawk really mis-read that Avi blast. What a shot. Eaton hustle double. Hope the White Sox have learned it's fun to play like this. Time to match KC, Detroit and Minnie win for win. Glad to see Rowand yell "yes" with Hawk on the home run call.
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 17, 2015 -> 05:49 AM) Anyone else worried about Robertson? He doesn't seem nearly as sharp lately. Also can't have Shark throw his standard 50 pitches through 2 innings tomorrow, we need our starters to go long into games without an off-day the rest of the month. Actually no. He got the four out save and threw some nasty pitches still. Also, every other reliever sucked today, not Robertson. Duke sucked. Petricka sucked and Jennings sucked. Robertson was the one savior. Four out save. Great win. Top five guys in the order got a lot of hits. Danks is quite a grinder. Great great performance on the road. Robin is shutting a lot of us up. He survived the lousy stretch and since he got taken to task by the front office is looking like a real manager.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 14, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) To me, this is a short-sighted move. If they weren't willing to be more patient with him than this, they shouldn't have made him the stater. Amen brother. Good post. The more I think about this move the more it makes me mad. They weren't very patient with ol Micah, but Robin??? Hmmm. I mean Micah is hitting .270 isn't he? That's not .195. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 14, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) Please don't cite number of errors in defensive arguments. I'm a Micah defender in some ways, but even I can see plainly he is struggling defensively. I often got ripped on here in the past for my "eye test" commentary on players.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) Bonifacio at 2B Dumb to make Boni the starter. I'd go with Sanchez and spot start Boni as has been the case. Boni is not the answer by any stretch.
  18. I didn't read the whole thread but to think of last year when Hawk was singing Micah's praises like he was the next great thing ... to the reality, now. It's just sad. Hopefully he's not a complete bust.
  19. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 12, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox 1m1 minute ago Rick Hahn confirms Rodon will start Friday at Oakland. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 3m3 minutes ago Rick Hahn announces that Carlos Rodon is being transitioned into #WhiteSox rotation, incl. Fri. YES!!!!! Thank God. Proves Hahn can admit a mistake. If Rodon sucks as a starter, then we send him down to get seasoned but at least he's where he belongs. If he runs out of innings and we're a playoff team, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 14, 2015 -> 04:24 AM) Sox could have Hoyt-McDowell-Walsh and get swept in that dump. One place that just gives the Sox fits. Very very true, but it can't get any worse than the road series at Minnie and KC. So that's a plus. The Sox know it can't be any worse than those games.
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 14, 2015 -> 04:22 AM) WHO f***ING CARES ABOUT HIS BAT FLIP. I don't. We had a big lead and that bomb didn't matter at all. I thought it was kind of neat/magestic watching on my mlb.com at work on my laptop. I love the background in Milwaukee. Home runs are cool in that park. I knew we were gonna win and the bat flip didn't bother me. Robertson has to be the best Sox closer in my lifetime. I loved Bobby but he had some jittery moments. This guy is just amazing.
  22. Sox haven't done much since winning the WS. They have nobody to blame but themselves. That was the time to take over the city's baseball fortunes. They could have been known as the "good team" in town. Cubs still would be more popular and draw more probably, but Sox had their chance. It's going to take a division title followed by an ensuing season of success to have 30,000 plus regularly. I used to think KC would never draw because of the cost of going to the game but give them one WS and they've already had 5 sellouts.
  23. Great game by Sale/Robertson. That would be a small step for mankind if the Sox could win this road series and continue making baby steps to mediocrity. GO SOX!
  24. QUOTE (Condor13 @ May 13, 2015 -> 02:49 AM) That's how you beat the shift Amen.
