  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2015 -> 12:08 AM) Not only that, but the tightness is leading to problems in all those other areas we keep noting. For example, today....Danks was so used to Abreu playing 1B that he assumed a ball was going to go down the line for a hit and he started backing up home, then was too late to realize it was actually LaRoche playing 1B and he'd made a wonderful play to stop it, only to have problems dealing with the throw in his haste to recover and get back to the bag. Micah Johnson is starting to be impacted by the pressing, as they moved him to leadoff and also his defense is getting a bit shakier. I guess the excuse for Eaton's poor play on Friday was that he was sick...that excuses everything that happened on the field of play and exonerates Ventura from any blame as well. Of course, if that wasn't the case, shouldn't someone have noticed and pulled him from the game after his first mistake, or second? Micah's play saddens me. I guess I expected a huge huge impact. Stolen bases galore, etc., after hearing Hawk gush about him all last year. I know he's OK and all that but I had way out of whack expectations for him. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2015 -> 04:04 AM) There's another good one. Guys I would love to see manage the Sox: 1) Stone, just to see if he could control his ego for an entire season 2) Harrelson, mostly for entertainment purposes 3) Ozzie again 4) Jack McDowell 5) Carlton Fisk 6) Bill Melton....well, just because we're already a laughingstock 7) Kenny Williams....also to see him bristle at being second-guessed by the media who basically has treated him with kid gloves 8) The best SABES team the internet could put together, working as a committee (like Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, lol) 9) Dick Allen (the player or the poster) 10) Greg775 11) This guy, http://houston.astros.mlb.com/hou/team/exe...mejdal_sig.html (Would be first Indian-American manager) 12) Kim NG (just because it would be interesting to have the first female manager in history) Thanks, Caulfield. That's actually not a bad list IMO, especially witih Greg on it.
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 3, 2015 -> 11:01 PM) The problem is we would be stuck with Cooper or Parent probably. I doubt we hire someone during the season I want Cooper desperately as interim. I am dying to see how mad he gets at press conferences. If this team is going to be this abysmal let's add some funny stuff. ... unless somebody bored would like to come aboard for the rest of the season like Lasorda, LaRussa, Leyland, Gardy. Anybody like that would nullify my desire for Coop. And of course my earlier suggestion for Ozzie. $50,000 salary rest of season with major incentives for getting wildcard and ALCS and WS of course. If he mouths off at all, bye bye. Who cares about $50,000. If he excels he gets one year deal for next season with similar figures. He'd probably manage for nothing to try to reinvent himself.
  3. Do people just eat their tickets? Will there be a lot of no shows the rest of the year? When a team is this bad it must be hard for season ticket holders to dump tickets on anybody.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 3, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) I'm not watching but just saw the score on Twitter. Could realistically see them making a move after this upcoming homestand. Sounds like there may be some sick players? Which doesn't mean anything big picture, but usually front offices don't like any small things getting in the way, they want it to be as clean as possible. But, I would be very shocked to find out the front office has not been speaking to available canidates over the last week. Yeah, you are right. The "guys being sick" excuse probably eliminates any of the anger toward the team/Robin from front office types. One thing is sure. They're not winning the division now, so they've already taken care of that drama the first week of May. Now it's wildcard or bust.
  5. Sox have probably single handedly sold a lot of tickets for the Twins. Their crazy fans probably think they can contend for a wild card now.
  6. People are right though. Jerry is getting old and with all of his peers dying he probably has a whole different lease on life these days. Maybe this doesn't sicken him.
  7. QUOTE (reiks12 @ May 3, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) I feel bad for robertson. Didn't he sign with us because he thought we would be winners? Most experts said the Sox kicked ass on the trade market and would be the most improved team in baseball.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) Question starts to become if there's any reason to think they can compete next year. If not, then see ya Sale. I finally do not care who they trade off. I have no emotional ties to any of the players anymore. I could take a total rebuild with all no names.
  9. When is the last time the Sox swept a four game series? I'll probly be surprised by the answer.
  10. It used to be that owners would get mad at their players for stealing money and visit the clubhouse and kick some ass. Now, everybody is making so much Monopoly money, nobody cares about the kind of money that is being wasted on this incompetent team. But they probably try to save pennies with everybody else who works for the team i'm sure (grounds crew, etc)
  11. This team is not capable of a four game win streak. Twins win four in a row vs. one damn team.
  12. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 3, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) Does anyone else notice that Dick Allen has gone silent? I think he finally realizes that no BS excuses can be made for this sorry team. I'm all for supporting Ventura or anyone else, but enough is enough already. Sox have bad roster but this is ridiculous. Their road performance is historically bad.
  13. If the Sox aren't gonna fire Ventura they need to do what the Royals did the year before they won the division. Royals put George Brett in the dugout a month; we need to beg Big Frank to be in the dugout a month. Or Bo Jackson. Bo might even be better. Just do it, White Sox. The status quo is ridiculous. We are 2-10 on the road this year and it's only going to get WAY WORSE. Minnesota has a s*** team, complete s*** and we're about to go 0-4 in Minnie vs. them.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 3, 2015 -> 04:37 AM) If they became sellers I think that erodes the fan base even more. What good would getting another team's prospects when this organization doesn't seem to be good at developing baseball players. My point is the Twins finish ahead of us and are .500. If the Sox were .500 after years of this s***, people would come. I will tell you this. As smart as Hahn is, my being a GM would have the Sox in much better shape cause I'd have acquired Billy Butler and Torii Hunter who are better than LaRoche/Melky.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 3, 2015 -> 05:28 AM) The hitting coach is former Athletic, Todd Steverson. He was widely praised last year. It's not a coaching thing with this quad I think -- I think it's a leadership void mostly. The locker room has zero strong personalities and they lack leadership from the manager. Gardenhire would work fine the more I think about it. Just get someone that's won a little in here and see what happens. Nobody can look at Robin and think "this a guy that has managed some big games". At least Gardenhire has done that. For all the losing at the end Gardenhire is .507 for his career. FWIW, that's miles ahead of Robin. Somebody pointed out the Sox road win percentage is something like .333 in a significant amount of games. Team loses series after series and yes we were told in the offseason this team should contend for playoffs. Robin said it; Hahn said it; everybody said it. No way Robin's gonna get axed this early but like I said, he should be fired if Minnie completes the sweep Sunday. That's flat out sickening and embarrassing. All the money paid to these guys and they can't beat Minnie one of four?
  16. I have one question to ask everybody and I would love a SERIOUS answer. Sox are 7 games out. IF and I say IF Minnie completes the sweep tomorrow, what harm would it be to fire Robin?? Sox can afford the salary even though I'm sure it would be an annoyance to the payroll people to have to pay Robin to go away. But seriously ... the season is all but over except for the wild card and school is still in session. Tell me please ... what harm would it be to axe Robin?? As far as replacements, this is my suggestion but I can understand if management won't do it. This is a perfect chance to give Ozzie a tryout. He's interim coach the rest of the year. We pay him $50,000. That's it, with incentives if we win the wild card. Ozzie would do it for $25,000. We get to see if Ozzie behaves. If he does anything controversial we move on. Then at season's end, if he's changed he gets a 1 year deal for next year; if he's the same Oz we move on to Gardenhire/LaRussa or Leyland. If you don't like my second part of this ignore it and at least answer my first part. What would it hurt firing Robin tomorrow if we go 0-4. I mean, Sox fans will always love Robin, etc. We know he's had s*** to work with compared to Ozzeroo. But an 0-4 to one of the worst teams in baseball, cmon. This is Chicago and it's happening too often.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) You just gotta tip your cap there's great clubs in this division like the Twins. Hard to win up there in the Metrodome. Wait, what year is it? This is like the old days. The sox are officially out of the division chase on May 2. They ain't going to make up 7 games on Detroit/KC. Anybody who thinks it's possible with this team's performance against Central teams head to head is dreaming.
  18. Notice how we never blame the hitting coach now that the hated Walker is gone? I don't even know who our hitting coach is to tell you the truth. It's all cliche. This current hitting coach should be getting roasted over the coals as much as Walker was.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Hahn could have had half a dozen gm jobs. If he doesn't have final say he should move on. The laroche move especially and the shark trade reek of kW meddling. LA Roche is the most kW free agent ever. LaRoche reminds me of Swisher. Trade him as soon as trade season begins with the rest of last year's acquisitions. Time to stockpile some talent, baby.
  20. What is so hard about going on the road and beating Minnesota a game or two? Robin definitely could be fired after tomorrow's loss and nobody would see it as an over-reaction. Just for comedy sake I'd love to see Coop get the rest of the season then we hire Gardy or Leyland this offseason to work with our totally revamped team.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:30 PM) There's no trade market the first week of May. Robertson being traded...means they're rebuilding again, which they cannot afford to do. And the return (die to his salary) wont be great unless there are 2-3 closers from contending teams all down simultaneously. Alexei looks older. LaRoche and Cabrera cant be moved, and Danks will just be salary relief. If you want to watch Beckham, Sanchez, Micah and Trayce Thompson play everyday....but you will be back to 2007 again. I think they can afford to rebuild. s***, these veteran laden teams can't sniff .500. The Twins are .500. Fans will still come to see Abreu and the team will probably be better anyway during rebuilding than it is now.
  22. What organization would desperately want Shark that we could rob blind in return? It's time to start planning some big-time trades and Hahn has to win all of them.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Alexei to the Padres makes a lot of sense if this continues for another month Definitely.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) They built a team with speed that is bad at stealing bases. Due to the need for speed, they neglected getting enough power in the lineup. Way too much reliance on Avi showing power development. The team speed is still putrid on the whole. It's still mostly a station to station team. Couple guys can run a bit.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ May 2, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) He'll take blame because that's what GMs do. But I still like him and think he's a smart GM. That said, he needs a new manager, and his team president and owner need to allow him to do that. Only way out of this mess. Fire Robin and the entire staff after the season ... after all the guys we acquired in last year's trades are shipped during the season. Start planning the firesale now and get some amazing baseball players for Melky, Robertson, LaRoche, Duke, Danks, Lexi. We have some pieces contenders will want. Go young and go for talent.
