  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:14 AM) We obviously have the pitching pieces in Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Duke, Robertson...the problem is there's not a single offensive player without a major set of flaws (offense, defense, baserunning, etc.) on the roster. Eaton and Garcia have a lot of potential (still), but neither are "sure things" at this point. I'm a bit more confident in Eaton fwiw. Then there's LaRoche. The problem is that leaves LF, 3B, SS, 2B and catcher as ongoing issues. That's a lot of positions to fix when you are stuck with some contracts like Danks and Cabrera, we still don't have much of a minor league system from which to make trades (and that probably not even being the wise strategy at this point)...the best players are still 1 to 1 1/2 seasons away...and there's not going to be a huge amount of financial flexibility compared to this past off-season. Good post. You identified the only assets this team has.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:11 AM) I get it but this isn't the last few weeks of the season. There are 100 games left. There's so much mediocrity in the teams ahead of the Sox it ain't even funny. TB, NYY, Boston, Baltimore, Minnesota, Cle, Houston etc. I still think we're better than all those teams if we get our baseball head out of our baseball ass. We have so many optimistic posts. Sox just let another lousy team rejuvenate its season. Detroit takes 2 of 3 in Chicago after coming in having lost 7 in a row. Sox are a joke ... still. Wake us up when the Sox are five over .500. Then we'll talk.
  3. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 05:10 AM) You realize last series was tied 2-2 after 4 right? Yes but these are the Finals. TB isn't going to let a title slip away if it's 2-2 and a best of 3 with 2 in TB.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) Danks has been one of the worst starters in baseball the last three years. His performance during his contract-extended years has been simply horrific. All I said was he's had some good starts the last two years and he has had some good starts. And I stand by saying he's way better than Noesi and not nearly one of the worst players on this last place team.
  5. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 04:39 AM) NO! You think we can win the series if it's 2-2 after four? I don't. Hawks need to win the next two and start planning the parade.

QUOTE (scs787 @ May 11, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) And through all that, they're just 4 back in the wild card. The 2nd spot currently being owned by the Twins. Are we really buying the Twins? After the Twins are the Rays, who the Sox are 3 back of, and just lost their 2nd SP for the year. Sox are just 2 games or less behind the rest of the bunch. 12-16 doesn't look good, but sans the top 4 teams, the AL is looking like the NBA Eastern conference. I'm not buying the Twins, but the Twins own the Sox. That's why they are in first, their utter dominance of Chicago. I love all the optimistic posts, but like Rongey said, til the Sox show excellence for a 2 to 2 1/2 week span, they are what they are, last place team.
  7. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) It's not just about did he win or lose its also about does he give his team a chance to stay in the game. In the end its hard for me to blame him when the team scores 1 run. But John Danks just doesn't have MLB stuff or control. He's had some good starts too the last two years. Noesi is much worse. Remember he just pitched a complete game recently. Danks isn't trash and we have a lot of players way worse than Danks.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 02:42 AM) If you've followed him in Ames, you understand. Watch this s*** Fred says "we aren't running offense anymore. They can't guard my power forward off the dribble." No offense, but the Bulls made a big mistake in hiring Fred. This team needs Tom Thibs more than the clowns in the front office.
  9. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:05 AM) Definitely, such a winnable game. That was frustrating. I thought when Chi went up 2-1 it'd be the Hawks making this a short series. Oh well, 1-1 in the enemy arena. Now it's time for the Hawks to kick ass and go up 3-1. It's all up to them. Take care of home ice and the Cup is Chicago's. If Hawks go 1-1 the next two, hate to say it, but the Cup belongs to Tampa Bay. Ugh.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:44 AM) Seconded. Even if it's the final wild card spot. They're also stuck in a situation where unless Alexei doesn't rebound at all in the second half...where there's just no way they can give that position to Tim Anderson heading into 2016 and pretend to fielding a playoff-caliber roster. They'd have to play exceptional baseball to make the playoffs. I'm just hoping Hahn realizes that despite having Sale, Shark, Q and Rodon this team blows and adjusts accordingly. ... Maybe behind the scenes he should interview some managerial candidates and see if they think they can win NOW with our rotation.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:29 AM) Verlander had a very solid rehab start in AAA tonight as well. The rest of the division has kept us in it for the last two weeks...but we just don't have it. 14 hits for the Tigers tonight already. Yeah, losing 2 of 3 will be about right. Sox curing what ails the Tigers if Det. snags 2 of 3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:54 AM) .159 and now two walks for Sanchez. Not even Bill Mazeroski could retain 2b with those numbers. Sanchez, bless his glove, isn't a major leaguer. Neither is Conor. Neither is Soto. Neither is Flowers. Neither is Nieto. Neither is Boni. Neither is Shuck. I hate to say it, Melky is close to not being of any value at all. Don't the Sox have any hitters in the minor league system at all?
  12. Five hits and two walks won't cut it. Horrible pitching won't cut it. Last place is well deserved at this point.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) 5.5 behind KC, which is all that really matters. Twins aren't a playoff team and will regress hard soon enough. Not trying to be a dick, but weren't the Sox just 3 back a few weeks ago? We've actually regressed a bit.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) And KC has the fewest innings out of their starters in the major leagues. Their bullpen is going to be taxed as the season goes on. All the teams in the Central are flawed. The Sox are still in it if they can play anywhere near their potential. The Royals hitters stopped drawing walks and the lineup on cue went to garbage in a hurry. Like you said the starters have sucked without an anchor that the players all trust (Shields). Now if you want to add psychology bulls***, they played like every game was a WS game for the first six weeks, causing fights; throwing at opposing hitters; acting like dickheads after they got hits, even meaningless hits so finally they are a bit 'weary' if you will as the dog days of the season near. Their defense should keep them in it all year, but they are struggling! Detroit sucks ... yes they do. Minnie is not going to keep winning. The Sox turned their season around by losing four straight and six of seven to that lousy team in a span of two weeks. Cleveland also sucks and had its season turned around by the Sox. As Rongey said tonight, Sox are still going nowhere until they can play good ball for a solid two week stretch. One win tonigiht doesn't mean s*** if Detroit, as they probably will, take the next two. That said ... GO SOX! Wake up SOX! o.s. Can you believe we have Sale, Rodon, Shark and Q, four amazing starters, plus the best closer in perhaps Sox history, and we aren't even .500. LOL worthy.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 03:38 AM) Best pitching performance of the season by Petricka. Nasty stuff tonight. He did well. Hopefully the defense stays solid with Sanchez/Beckham/LaRoche in there remains solid. And hopefully the warm weather will mean a lot of homers this summer. Let's face it, the offense is horrific but could be average if several guys start hitting home runs. Tonight was a good start in the HR regard. It was nice in the ninth to see Eaton get on base then sprint to third like a speedster on the hit by Lexi.
  16. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 03:30 AM) Pretty productive night... we won and every team in our division lost. That's gotta happen several nights in a two week span and the Sox could move up in a hurry. Nice win, better than the alternative, but long long way to go to .500.
  17. Yes! We're gonna win tonight. f*** the Tigers.
  18. Make em pay for the error! Cmon.
  19. So sad about the woman hit by the broken bat in Boston. Shows what can happen, anything can happen, when you have good seats at a baseball game. Her little kid was there in horror. Please let her live. Please let her be OK. Heartbreaking.
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 03:01 AM) Sanchez strikes no fear into pitchers Let's face it. He's a defensive specialist. He cannot hit.
  21. It's gonna be homer or nothing for a team that doesn't hit (many) homers.
  22. Damn. This pitcher has good stats. Gonna be tough.
  23. Beckham really needs to get on base. Cmon Gordon. The new Gordon has to a.) get hit by a pitch here. b.) draw a walk. c.) get a bunt single. d.) base hit up the middle. I want one of the four. The old Gordon would pop out here.
  24. Nice play by Sanchez. Need that leather to win big league games.
  25. No matter what happens, good call to pitch Robertson. Gives Sox one more half inning to win it. If Sox can't score in the 10th, it's the hitters fault. Good call Robin.
