Viciedo holding out for Major League deal
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I never thought it'd happen. As we all know, give him 550 at bats he'll rake 20 homers. But he'll do nothing else. Maybe if those 20 homers are hit at the right time, he'll be worth having around as DH. -
Yet another "racial" confrontation with police, this time in

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) And in the case of a dozen cops talking to people by a pool, neither of them is fine. OR necessary. As shown by the other 11 policemen on the scene. Exactly. The other 11 cops acted professionally. The moron who got fired looked like he was on drugs. I don't understand why some cop-backers in these many threads can't admit some of these cops have been trigger happy. I am not expecting too much when saying cops don't need to shoot people all the time just because a person is not obeying their orders. Personally I'd obey a cop at all times. When they stop me late at night driving home from work (thinking they've got a drunk driver) I'm polite as hell and they always let me go without a ticket when they claim I rolled a stop sign or turned in the wrong lane or something as an excuse to stop a potential drunk driver. I'd never show attitude. But those who do show attitudes shouldn't be stomped on like the 14 year old in the bikini. Cops need to show restraint or be shown the door. p.s. I know somebody who used to work as a cop back in the day in Chicago and there were beatings galore. Just no cellphone cams. Some cops may wish those days were still here. They are not. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Cut taxes for the wealthy, raise them where they primarily impact the poor and middle class. It's crazy. They passed the measure today to s*** on the poor and middle class and help the rich business owners. But ... we the people re-elected Brownback just a few months ago. I need to get out of this godforsaken state. Or do all states suck?

Golden State finally woke up and played some ball. I disagree with all the crap about the Cavs being worn out. I still think Cavs win the series.

Viciedo holding out for Major League deal
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This proves what a 'bum' (in baseball terms) Viciedo is. You'd think he'd go to the minors and learn how to take a walk once a month. If he'd learn how to play baseball the right way, and be more selective at the plate, and at least average in left field, he might get a job. s*** if he'd learn to hit he might be a DH for 10 years. But he refuses like he's some productive hitter. He's not. He swings at everything, has a huge hole in his swing and can't play D. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Basically, he said Robin offered to fly overnight from LA (or whatever) to St. Pete, manage Sunday, and fly to Pittsburgh with the team. Rick told him that was too much, enjoy his time off, and join the team on Monday in Pittsburgh refreshed. Pretty simple decision. Moving on... Damn. This shows true work ethic. Robin offered to fly back to manage on Sunday. Kudos to Hahn for telling him to take the whole weekend off. I wish the people on here would reconsider their position on Robin missing these games. The guy normally works more than 70 hours a week easy during baseball season and gets paid for 40 hours. The guy is going to his daughter's graduation and volunteered to come back for Sunday's game. If he came back Sunday he would be a complete idiot. The Scrooges should just admit they were wrong and wish Robin well. Finally, I repeat: Robin managing the games means nothing. A trained chimp could manage a baseball game. He's an average to rotten manager to begin with. Cut the guy some slack. Admit you were wrong, please!
-
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 04:41 AM) My own father didn't go to my graduation from college because he was playing golf... Oh wait I didn't go either was on Sunday... not missing NFL games! Can't blame someone for wanting 3 days off from a pressure job... but be expecting some grumbles.. I'm sure Robin can handle it. Anybody who has a daughter will not be grumbling.

Thanks to Brownback, who promised to not raise taxes, Kansas is about to have the highest sales tax of any state pretty soon to get out of a budget mess. You can't make this stuff up.

San Diego- OF Rymer Liriano, 2B Jedd Gyrko, and SP Justin Hancock Mets- SP Marcos Molina and SS Gavin Cecchini Thoughts? Realistic? It'd be very nice to acquire the best catcher possible for Shark. No reason to not do that trade ASAP.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) Cooper missed time earlier this season for I believe the same thing. As far as players, MLB does now have a Paternity Leave policy, which covers 72 hours. But in the grand scheme of things, Robin's #1 job is being a dad, not making out the White Sox line up, and it's pretty likely he would have been back Sunday if it wasn't a coast to coast, west to east, day game. It's nice that the organization understands this as well. Exactly. Kudos to Sox management. It'd be ridiculous for him to come back cross country for the last game of the series. His daughter will remember this forever. The Sox? Cmon. Like they need Robin Ventura in the dugout for these three games? They don't need him; his daughter does. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) Here's one man's humble opinion: Only a lunatic detached from reality would have a problem with a father taking 3 days off of work to fly thousands of miles from one coast of the USA to the other for a big once-in-a-lifetime family event like a daughter's graduation. Exactly! How can anybody have a problem with this? QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 12:40 AM) Let's be real, most working class fathers would kill for 3 days off in a row to attend their daughter's graduation halfway across the country. Robin could have easily taken a travel day, a day for his daughter, and been back after 2 days. That he took 3 says something about something IMO. I agree, be there for your daughter, but 3 days? I mean, come on. With great privilege comes great responsibility. You have one of 30 MLB managing jobs, how about you act like it? Of course, he has a lifetime job so he could probably take a week off and nobody would mind. Oh well, I can't stand his managing Parent will probably do a better job. Chitown. You really are grumpy regarding this issue. Robin rocks in wanting to be with daughter for 3 days. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:37 AM) Again, most fathers are not public faces of multi billion dollar operations. Here, go on one of your google hunts Southsider, what other managers have taken two, three day breaks during their tenure for graduations. Good luck, don't think you'll find many. Forget RV, he never even wanted the job in the first place I'm not going to cut him any slack. He's getting paid damn well he can take my abuse on a message board. EDIT: only thing I could find was Bud Black, who yea, didn't miss 3 days: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=2010...b&fext=.jsp You are getting worked up over nothing. Robin is a hero in this situation; so are the White Sox for not making him come back for a meaningless Game 3 of the series. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 02:34 AM) Yep, those are the kind of posts that embarrass a fan base. Seriously, can we at least pretend that we are in the 21st century, and things like being a father are important? Who cares what his job is. Can Bill Gates not take a few days off because he is the face of Microsoft? Seriously if it bothers a person bad enough where they have to personally attack a person, your priorities are seriously out of whack. With all of the truly bad people in sports who really should be called out, this is the opposite of that. This is a father showing his daughter that she is the most important thing in the world to him, not some game. Bravo. If more men were like this with their daughers and sons, this world would be a much better place. This does deserve national press. Some fans mad at manager for taking 3 games off to be with daughter. It's not like Robin is some great baseball mind who will win the games with his great managerial moves. They should let a different coach manage the three games. That'd be fun and a great competition in staff to see who wins, who loses.

To the hockey experts: How is the matchup going? Do u think the Hawks have what it takes to win a best 2 of 3 not having home ice? Give me your impressions of the 2 of 3 series. Is it all on Crawford? I say the odds are heavily in favor of TB.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) greg775 Translator: Generalization, grumble, mumble, more generalizations, rabble rabble. Grrrrr. I'm angry. Why can't they taze? Oh I know. It's not assured the taze will work 100 percent of the time. So they need to shoot bullets. Give me a break. The tazer will work. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) greg775 Translator: Rabble, rabble, I'm the self-appointed voice of the anti-police generalization movement, rabble, generalization, rabble. These police incidents are causing riots which threatens my life and others. Wait til one of these hits in Chicago. Do you want looting all over downtown Chicago and Chicago itself?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) I think the supreme court ruled that they do NOT have any duty to protect you. They don't want to pull this type s*** with cities who fund their police stations and pay their salaries. Cops need to realize they have caused this bulls*** to begin with. They need to calm the f*** down and serve and protect or go get a job at Wendy's.

greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Filibuster
These cops are way too trigger happy. Nobody will ever convince me they can't use better judgment and taze people in some of these situations rather than shoot them. Glad this hyper cop got his ass fired and hope more cops get kicked to the curb for over zealousness. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) A four game sweep took them to a 20-7 record in May? Interesting Without winning six of seven vs. a lousy Chicago team ... they'd have been in the cellar where they belong.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) Neither. Just think it will be interesting to see the "counter reaction" from police across the country. Okay...well, if you're not happy with how we're doing our jobs, let's see how happy you are if we do the bare minimum or look the other way. Can't imagine it would be an easy thing to stomach for the best officers. It's the same argument as a local teacher's union, when they take such an action that works against the benefit of the students. Problem is cops can't do that. Don't they take a sworn oath to protect and serve? Also cities fund their police stations and pay their salaries. They are civil servants and if they look the other way the must be filmed and fired.

These teams do not share the ball like the Spurs do. I applaud Curry, I really do, but some of those shots are really really bad. Ditto LeBron. Say what you want about Jordan. He didn't take awful shots like both these stars have been putting up.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 02:51 AM) You going to give him some credit now? Probably not. This sport makes my head hurt. Nice win. I don't get the Crawford hate from my relatives on Facebook and others. It's not like he's giving up many goals at all. Anytime you give up one goal, I think he's star of tonight's game. I think he's a good goalie if not spectacular. I'm hoping the Hawks can catch a Tampa team playing a s*** game in either Game 5 or 7 as Anaheim did last series in the final game. It's not likely, but possible our experienced Hawks team could stay consistent, while TB has one rotten game at home and Hawks win third Cup in 6 years.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) wow. The whole series? Seriously? Pardon me, but that is f***ing horse s***. Geez. Is your middle name "Scrooge?" He has daughters. Daughters are precious and special and oft-times emotional about their daddy. Kudos to Robin for saying "f*** baseball" for a weekend. Family matters. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:06 PM) Good. He's trash anyway. OMG. That's a bad post IMO. He may be a mediocre to C-, D-plus manager, but he's NOT trash. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) The entire weekend is excessive. No it isn't. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Only Soxtalk would complain the manager they complain is managing won't be managing. His daughter goes to college in CA, the Sox are in FL. Typically 2 games are missed but it is not practical he gets back for the Sunday afternoon game. Exactly. It is not practical at all. Why kill him in terms of travel at this time. He deserves and should be at the two-day graduation. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 01:00 AM) Mercy. Haha man sometimes I wanna puke when I read some of these hate-filled comments. It seems like genuine hatred. Real hate! Mercy, it's just baseball! ? Anonymous internet will do that. I don't hate Robin. I just think he's a blah manager and we have a blah front office as well to share blame equally. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 01:47 AM) To me, this just demonstrates Robin's lack of passion for the job. I have no problem with a parent attending his daughters graduation. However, any manager who really had a strong commitment to the position (and to the team) would minimize the time away. I doubt there is another manger in the league that would miss 3 games for this occasion. Almost all would miss one. Some would miss two. Missing an entire series just shows that our manager would rather have a vacation instead of working. That's a problem. Oh please. It says nothing about his passion for the job. Are you serious, Sincity? It's about being a DAD.

Torii Hunter got ejected and was throwing equipment, etc., freaking out during the latter stages of the Twins loss to the Royals. Doesn't Hunter realize the Twins are NOT contenders. The sole reason they got jump started and over .500 was their utter dominance of Chicago. That four-game sweep and then two of three in the Cell carried them the next month or so. Ridiculous. The Twins are NOT a good baseball team.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) http://news.yahoo.com/mckinney-police-offi...-190534788.html Bishkin said Casebolt had worked one suicide and one attempted suicide in the hour prior to being dispatched to the pool party that reportedly involved teens fighting. “The nature of these two suicide calls took an emotional toll on Eric Casebolt,” Bishkin said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference. Now I know from the rhetoric flying around here on these situations that most law enforcement personnel are going to say that's part of the job, you know it going in and to use it as an excuse after the fact is convenient...if anything, I would think dealing with that kind of a (suicide) situation would make more MORE likely not to want to use deadly force and work out things by talking more amicably, but that's just me. Great post, caulfield. It's hard for me to understand how that cop could be such a clown, especially in this day and age of cellphone cameras. He HAD to be fired for his assault of that young girl in the bikini. That was flat out wrong and bizarre and fricking crazy behavior. That cop would have been smarter to destroy the kid's cellphone who was filming it. Looks like just one person filmed it. p.s. Just read on cnn the community is in an uproar and wants to charge him with assault of a minor. They don't think the resignation is enough. I think firing him is enough only because those two kids (sort of) charged behind him for a second when he was roughing up the bikini clad teen. Normally I'd say charge him with a crime as well but I think in this case getting fired is enough. -

Sox are OK once they play teams that aren't in their own division. They sweep Houston after losing 2 of 3 to the crappy Tigers? Hard to fathom. Great win though. Robertson is amazing. Finally hitting home runs in the Cell. That's big cause it's the only way we can score. Sox win; Hawks win. Nice night. p.s. you know darn well if we played KC or Cleveland next we'd lose the series for sure. Keep us out of the Central, baby!
