  1. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) Since 2009, in games 4 - 7, the Blackhawks are 41-14. TBL has a TON of pressure on them for game 5. Why? Because the BH have been here before. They don't get too up when they win nor too down when they lose. A young, inexperienced in the SCF team can easily let the pressure get to them. Of course, it hasn't happened so far, but the 'hawks haven't played their best hockey yet. IMHO, I think the Lightning have come closer to playing the best they can than the Blackhawks...and it's still tied at 2. Plus, I don't worry until G6. Great post. Great win. I love Crawford. He gets very little credit from some fans who have backup quarterback syndrome, but damn, he stopped a few shots that easily could have tied that game. Kudos Crawford and everybody else. Had just enough offense the last two games with 2-1 wins thanks to Crawford in large part. If Hawks win this series, back to back 2-1 wins are pretty special. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 03:18 AM) It's already increased. Can't get in the door for less than 1000 I predict nobody will pay 1000 bucks. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) Maybe let's stop planning the parade yet. Great point. This thing is far from over. Have the Hawks lost home games in the playoffs? Yes. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 04:11 AM) Fans are allowed to look ahead, the players aren't and that's all that matters. That's true.
  2. I got fooled by Gordon's hot start. I thought he'd found himself. At least he's now considered good glove/no hit. His glove is pretty OK.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) I'm starting to believe this. Great points. He may be way older than we think.
  4. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 11:59 PM) Some people couldn't wait to get rid of AJ and replace him with Flowers. Just about everybody wanted AJP gone. I got hammered for backing him on here.
  5. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Phegley also batting over .300 Anytime the A's want your players you need to reassess your opinion of such players. Obviously Semien and Phegs were good if Oakland wanted 'em.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 01:33 AM) With how much our best trade piece has struggled there is genuinely no reason to rush this one. Worst case scenario we're still at the bottom of the division mid-July and players are still as worthless as they look now. No way that's worse than where we stand right now. Maybe Samardzija has a non-awful month and some idiot is more willing to take a chance on him in late July than they would be right now. He's already been so bad he's a sunk cost, anything we get back for him is just barely compensation at this point. Balta is right, I know that, but I'd still like to get rid of Shark ASAP. Some NL team might take him off our hands. Just get a top catcher prospect and an infielder and call it a day.
  7. Good link. I especially like this line in the story. ... "A short video of officers in McKinney, Texas, shows us the avoidable results of an unnecessarily aggressive approach to policing. But in the same video, we can see a few seconds of policing the way the way it should be done."
  8. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) Yeah, sure. He trusts a guy as his bench coach who doesn't even have the sense to pinch hit Soto OR Boni vs. LHRP, instead staying with Flowers and Sanchez (who while being a switch "hitter" ostensibly, has never hit lefties well) What does that say about the staff and their strategies? LOL at wanting Boni and/or Soto to pinch hit. Both guys are not big league caliber players.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 2h2 hours ago View translation #WhiteSox for 6/13: Shuck 8, Ramirez 6, Abreu DH, LaRoche 3, Garcia 9, Cabrera 7, Beckham 5, Sanchez 4, Soto 2. Samardzija vs. Archer. Eaton out of the line up again, and he's wasn't happy. And I agree with him. He should constantly be in the line up. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 4m4 minutes ago Eaton out of the lineup today. Had a rather spirited closed door discussion with Mark Parent after the fact. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 4m4 minutes ago Parent said during his media session that he's fine with a player being upset when he's not playing. They want guys who want to be there Eaton needs a break. This will be good for him. He probably should be benched by Robin, not Parent though.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/teacher-fir...1365623792.html Two teachers have now been fired for supporting the police officer and/or denigrating African-American kids. People never learn about how to filter themselves at facebook and twitter. Good point, caulfield. How dumb to go on Facebook and make racist comments. I mean were they just begging to get fired. That one teacher said she almost was in favor of segregation to keep them on their side of town. Geezus. Are people raised to be that fricking ignorant?
  11. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) I didn't attend my own college graduation... because I just started a new job and didn't want to miss. I didn't want to stick around my out of state school an extra week to attend graduation, but figured it was something I should do or I'd regret it forever. I stayed and was bored that week waiting for graduation and indeed thought graduation was very boring. I did convince my parents not to make the 500 mile drive and they reluctantly agreed to not come. I probably should have let them come because I'm now convinced graduations are more for parents than the graduates. And mine paid for education so it would have been a way for me to thank them. At any rate, it was very boring. Robin will be bored but proud to support his daughter. Nice of the Sox to let him skip three meaningless games to honor his flesh and blood.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) Jen Lada ‏@JenLada 2m2 minutes ago Hahn: as we sit here today our hope continues to be we're in a position to add & have reinforcements come to contribute for a champ'ship run I used to approve of statements like this in never giving up on the season, only to see the team stink in August and September. I've learned when you have a sub-par team, that's a ridiculous stance to take. You just know this team is going to stagger in September again and you know it's not good enough to make the playoffs. Hahn has to know this. At the very least he should be planning a trade of Shark to start the ball rolling, and getting ready to finalize it.
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 01:51 AM) Hope that is the case, but do not be shocked If it is the status quo at Catcher in 2016. There's no way. They'll go with two new catchers next year even if it's somebody else's third catcher. Soto and Flowers have to be gone.
  14. That's the kind of game the Sox play to make sure they stay firmly below .500. Not a very good game. Pitching not so good; hitting better than normal but still sucky enough to lose.
  15. I never thought it'd happen. As we all know, give him 550 at bats he'll rake 20 homers. But he'll do nothing else. Maybe if those 20 homers are hit at the right time, he'll be worth having around as DH.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) And in the case of a dozen cops talking to people by a pool, neither of them is fine. OR necessary. As shown by the other 11 policemen on the scene. Exactly. The other 11 cops acted professionally. The moron who got fired looked like he was on drugs. I don't understand why some cop-backers in these many threads can't admit some of these cops have been trigger happy. I am not expecting too much when saying cops don't need to shoot people all the time just because a person is not obeying their orders. Personally I'd obey a cop at all times. When they stop me late at night driving home from work (thinking they've got a drunk driver) I'm polite as hell and they always let me go without a ticket when they claim I rolled a stop sign or turned in the wrong lane or something as an excuse to stop a potential drunk driver. I'd never show attitude. But those who do show attitudes shouldn't be stomped on like the 14 year old in the bikini. Cops need to show restraint or be shown the door. p.s. I know somebody who used to work as a cop back in the day in Chicago and there were beatings galore. Just no cellphone cams. Some cops may wish those days were still here. They are not.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Cut taxes for the wealthy, raise them where they primarily impact the poor and middle class. It's crazy. They passed the measure today to s*** on the poor and middle class and help the rich business owners. But ... we the people re-elected Brownback just a few months ago. I need to get out of this godforsaken state. Or do all states suck?
  18. Golden State finally woke up and played some ball. I disagree with all the crap about the Cavs being worn out. I still think Cavs win the series.
  19. This proves what a 'bum' (in baseball terms) Viciedo is. You'd think he'd go to the minors and learn how to take a walk once a month. If he'd learn how to play baseball the right way, and be more selective at the plate, and at least average in left field, he might get a job. s*** if he'd learn to hit he might be a DH for 10 years. But he refuses like he's some productive hitter. He's not. He swings at everything, has a huge hole in his swing and can't play D.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Basically, he said Robin offered to fly overnight from LA (or whatever) to St. Pete, manage Sunday, and fly to Pittsburgh with the team. Rick told him that was too much, enjoy his time off, and join the team on Monday in Pittsburgh refreshed. Pretty simple decision. Moving on... Damn. This shows true work ethic. Robin offered to fly back to manage on Sunday. Kudos to Hahn for telling him to take the whole weekend off. I wish the people on here would reconsider their position on Robin missing these games. The guy normally works more than 70 hours a week easy during baseball season and gets paid for 40 hours. The guy is going to his daughter's graduation and volunteered to come back for Sunday's game. If he came back Sunday he would be a complete idiot. The Scrooges should just admit they were wrong and wish Robin well. Finally, I repeat: Robin managing the games means nothing. A trained chimp could manage a baseball game. He's an average to rotten manager to begin with. Cut the guy some slack. Admit you were wrong, please!
  21. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 04:41 AM) My own father didn't go to my graduation from college because he was playing golf... Oh wait I didn't go either was on Sunday... not missing NFL games! Can't blame someone for wanting 3 days off from a pressure job... but be expecting some grumbles.. I'm sure Robin can handle it. Anybody who has a daughter will not be grumbling.
  22. Thanks to Brownback, who promised to not raise taxes, Kansas is about to have the highest sales tax of any state pretty soon to get out of a budget mess. You can't make this stuff up.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 02:34 AM) Some packages I think I would accept for Samardzija. Boston- SP Michael Kopech and OF Manuel Margot Houston- C Jacob Nottingham, SP Mark Appel, and OF Derek Fisher Toronto- SP Sean Reid-Foley, SS Richard Urena, and OF DJ Davis Yankees- OF Aaron Judge and SP Ian Clarkin Pirates- C Reese McGuire, SP Mitch Keller, and OF Willy Garcia Dodgers- SP Grant Holmes and OF Alex Verdugo Rangers- OF Nick Williams, SS Ti'Quan Forbes, and SP Anthony Raunado Some packages I would accept for Alexei. San Diego- OF Rymer Liriano, 2B Jedd Gyrko, and SP Justin Hancock Mets- SP Marcos Molina and SS Gavin Cecchini Thoughts? Realistic? It'd be very nice to acquire the best catcher possible for Shark. No reason to not do that trade ASAP.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) Cooper missed time earlier this season for I believe the same thing. As far as players, MLB does now have a Paternity Leave policy, which covers 72 hours. But in the grand scheme of things, Robin's #1 job is being a dad, not making out the White Sox line up, and it's pretty likely he would have been back Sunday if it wasn't a coast to coast, west to east, day game. It's nice that the organization understands this as well. Exactly. Kudos to Sox management. It'd be ridiculous for him to come back cross country for the last game of the series. His daughter will remember this forever. The Sox? Cmon. Like they need Robin Ventura in the dugout for these three games? They don't need him; his daughter does. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) Here's one man's humble opinion: Only a lunatic detached from reality would have a problem with a father taking 3 days off of work to fly thousands of miles from one coast of the USA to the other for a big once-in-a-lifetime family event like a daughter's graduation. Exactly! How can anybody have a problem with this? QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 12:40 AM) Let's be real, most working class fathers would kill for 3 days off in a row to attend their daughter's graduation halfway across the country. Robin could have easily taken a travel day, a day for his daughter, and been back after 2 days. That he took 3 says something about something IMO. I agree, be there for your daughter, but 3 days? I mean, come on. With great privilege comes great responsibility. You have one of 30 MLB managing jobs, how about you act like it? Of course, he has a lifetime job so he could probably take a week off and nobody would mind. Oh well, I can't stand his managing Parent will probably do a better job. Chitown. You really are grumpy regarding this issue. Robin rocks in wanting to be with daughter for 3 days. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:37 AM) Again, most fathers are not public faces of multi billion dollar operations. Here, go on one of your google hunts Southsider, what other managers have taken two, three day breaks during their tenure for graduations. Good luck, don't think you'll find many. Forget RV, he never even wanted the job in the first place I'm not going to cut him any slack. He's getting paid damn well he can take my abuse on a message board. EDIT: only thing I could find was Bud Black, who yea, didn't miss 3 days: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=2010...b&fext=.jsp You are getting worked up over nothing. Robin is a hero in this situation; so are the White Sox for not making him come back for a meaningless Game 3 of the series. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 02:34 AM) Yep, those are the kind of posts that embarrass a fan base. Seriously, can we at least pretend that we are in the 21st century, and things like being a father are important? Who cares what his job is. Can Bill Gates not take a few days off because he is the face of Microsoft? Seriously if it bothers a person bad enough where they have to personally attack a person, your priorities are seriously out of whack. With all of the truly bad people in sports who really should be called out, this is the opposite of that. This is a father showing his daughter that she is the most important thing in the world to him, not some game. Bravo. If more men were like this with their daughers and sons, this world would be a much better place. This does deserve national press. Some fans mad at manager for taking 3 games off to be with daughter. It's not like Robin is some great baseball mind who will win the games with his great managerial moves. They should let a different coach manage the three games. That'd be fun and a great competition in staff to see who wins, who loses.
  25. To the hockey experts: How is the matchup going? Do u think the Hawks have what it takes to win a best 2 of 3 not having home ice? Give me your impressions of the 2 of 3 series. Is it all on Crawford? I say the odds are heavily in favor of TB.
