Ventura on his job status
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) When it comes to slow pitching speeds, Mark Buehrle is always the first pitcher I think of today. He's still the same Buehrle. He can throw a fastball by a guy or catch a guy looking when he needs to. I just find it odd you'd single out him in such an analogy when he's still in the top 1/4 of pitchers in the league.

Ventura on his job status
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) In a brawl, I am taking Nolan Ryan every time... even at 70 years old, or whatever he is today. Heck the dude probably could still throw harder than Mark Buehrle. Why did you have to bring Buehrle still into this? He's 2-0 and still excelling and still can rear back and throw a fastball when needed. You could have picked plenty of Sox pitchers and not the great Mark to bring into this discussion of Robin getting owned by Nolan Ryan.

4/15 - White Sox vs Indians
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) I dont ever remember assuming we would get better at any point last year. I remember a lot of people having no sense of urgency. Like, "it's only May." "It's only June." It's still only mid July type stuff. The season is over before ya know it. I'm starting to believe the cliche that games you lose in April and May are just as important as Sept.

4/15 - White Sox vs Indians
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) Even though the Wins havent quite been there so far I am feeling really encouraged. 1. Because I think the bullpen is going to be really good for the Sox this year. And it will likely get better by later additions of young arms or another key trade before the ASB. That keeps you in things alone. 2. Mostly the whole lineup has greatly underachieved so far. They will get better. 3. Abreu is going to put up manly numbers sooner rather than later. 4. Eaton will come out of this funk and provide a lift to the offense, I hope. The lead off spot is sooo freaking important as we have come to know over the years and when he comes around the whole lineup will likely come around. 5. Rodon will be here soon to replace Noesi in the rotation. Thing is, so far its just like last year; assuming we'll get better while we throw away games now. Gonna have to be way better than .500 to win this division and Sox are looking like a .500 ceiling club.

Ventura on his job status
Now Dick Allen knows how I felt during the Ozzie era. I felt like I was the only true Ozzie supporter. Dick is pretty much the only Robin supporter. I could go either way on Robin but it's pretty obvious he's just another guy at best.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) Im glad this is over so this lady can cease getting the attention that she obviously craves. Put her in her cell, and forget about her Yeah, I watched a video tour of the jail/compound. Man, what a life she's going to have. I think she gets to shower 3 days a week and go outside maybe 2 days a week. Rest of the time in this little cell. I don't know if they get TV. Maybe they do. Can you imagine how all the days morph together. You never get to drive anywhere; you never get to go do anything. Just eat, sleep. When you do get a shower it's in some miserable setting. It's probably timed where the water turns off in four minutes or something. Let her start her new life in obscurity like u said.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) All you have heard is that the media in general is in love with Hillary. Most of them are die hard Democrats anyway, so not such a stretch. True.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) I don't mind playing for the tie so much as the fact that everyone that even follows the sox casually knows that Adam Eaton cannot sac bunt. Yea, he's a 5-8 speedy slap hitter -- but he can't sac bunt! You can expect him to bunt because 5-8 slap hitters are supposed to be Good Solid Fundamental Players but the reality is that Eaton is a .300 hitter that had the platoon advantage. Let him f***ing swing. Put your guys in a position to succeed. I remember one time Ozzie made somebody bunt with 2 strikes and the same thing happened and all the outrage. I remember thinking at the time that it was to prove a point to the front office or something. That they got him players who should be able to bunt who can't even f***ing bunt.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) You asked that question like two days ago and it was answered. It must have been in a popular thread. I missed it I guess.

David Robertson is a f***ing beast.
I heard an analyst on the score last night say he has stuff so good it's like a video game. I hadn't seen anything like his stuff the game before last.

4/15 - White Sox vs Indians
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) I think Robin likes his bullpen. Playing for a tie on the road isn't necessarily wrong anymore. Yeah, I actually thought of that seconds after I posted. Good take. You might be right about the end of that baseball axiom. I'd like some proof, though, of how many managers are now playing to tie on the road.

Adam Eaton
Is DeAza still excelling with the O's? Why do players do so well when they LEAVE Chicago?? Rios had eight RBIs when he got hurt the other day, etc. Eaton needs to get his head out or he'll lose his leadoff spot. He isn't hitting.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) Not that much. He deserved the strikeout with that effort. But it is comforting to know he would have reached base if Robin didn't put the bunt on. I used to use the same argument when Oz called for the bunt and people fried him. I'd blame the player. But nobody is addressing what caufield said: Why was Robin playing for the tie on the road??? That's wild.

Ventura on his job status
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) Yost is an awful tactician but his guys play sharp. Robin is an awful tactician and his guys' play is about as sharp as those disposable razors they give away at the Hotel front desk. Most manager's have good and bad traits. The only, honest to goodness trait I see in Robin is ability to handle the media. And of course, when you're expected to contend and this is what we see the first week even that is going to get a helluva lot harder. I hope he gets grilled over that bunt. Grill him. I get a kick out of the Yost criticism which pretty much stems from the fact he calls for the bunt a lot, or at least did last year. I mean, critics should say that's why they hate him. He utilizes the bunt and the average fan hates the bunt. But I don't think he's the buffoon people portray him to be. He's the guy who created the Herrara-Davis-Holland trio to close games and his team is very crisp. I guess his GM got him players who can field, but the Royals look professional when they play if that's the right word. Sox often look like a bunch of airheads. I don't get the Yost criticism, but he gets it in KC, too.

4/15 - White Sox vs Indians
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) Eaton's AB did not help. As I stated, I don't agree with having him bunt with 2 strikes, but the fact is the player should be able to execute the bunt. When I saw him square with two strikes, I had to laugh. First of all, I knew he was gonna bunt it foul. Second, when he did, I thought, 'Man, the manager just put the goat horns squarely on one guy.' I mean Eaton is a huge goat there. The problem is like you all said the manager blew it. With two strikes at least let him hit. What happened after the buzzkill bunt was deflating, even if the ss made a dandy play. Abreu's at bat was absurd. I must have glanced away on the pitch everybody said was a mistake pitch on 2-1. Cause his swings on the junk pitches were horrible.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 07:44 PM) I don't get what problem people have with Beckham. He's had good at bats and played solid defense. Bonifacio, on the other hand, has looked like he's done with baseball since the second Spring Training games started. Simple. Beckham is old news; Bonifacio the mystery new guy. People always want the mystery guy. Like you said, Beckham has been OK so far. Too many guys in the lineup aren't hitting yet. Some horrific averages. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) First person who defends that decision gets kicked in the teeth. Also, EATON. You're a professional baseball player, time to act like it. Yeah it was dumb to bunt with two strikes. But at least execute the bunt and see what happens. Don't have three miserable attempts and strike 3. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) A 5'4 lead off hitter can't execute a bunt? Jesus. Great post. I mean, he's already overpaid if he can't bunt and he's a short guy like that. I mean, if you can't bunt, work on it, Eaton. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) That 2-1 pitch should have been crushed. Oh well, bad defense, don't take advantage of scoring opps, that's a loss. I noticed Francona was mad during postgame after Game One of the series. He said he made a "mistake to a guy you can't make a mistake to." Sounds like there was another mistake pitch today? I didn't see it, but he could have crushed it again? QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Eaton may be he dumbest baseball player to ever roam the earth. Crashing into the wall on a ball that was not catchable last year was my first indication, getting thrown out at home to end a game you are 6 runs down in was another and today is just icing on the cake. Cabreara is not doing the things he was brought in to do but then eaton is not helping him Abreu looks a 20 year old that is mystified by the breaking pitch Garcia better have some reason why he could not bat today. The offense really should have pounded the ball yesterday and then today after bauer left. Again this team was not ready for the season to start and still is not. Nice post. I know you can't win 'em all, but this team still looks .500ish at best unless the pitching becomes so damn good it makes up for lousy defense, bad baserunning and bad fielding. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 08:23 PM) You should never play for the tie on the road...what happened to that tried-and-true axiom of baseball? That is a GREAT question. You rarely see managers not do the old baseball cliche, "Play to tie at home and win on the road." Very interesting. Even if you tie it, Cleveland wins it on the walk off in theory. Weird.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) I think her fatal flaw, right now, is that her last name is Clinton. Just as Jeb's is Bush. They're the Yankees...and only Yankee fans like to see the Yankees win. Why is that her fatal flaw? Everything I've heard is the country is in love with the Clintons and Hillary will win by one of the greatest landslides in history.

And That's a White Sox Winner !!
Love watching Robertson pitch so far. He looks elite to me. Guys, Tyler Flowers isn't as bad as some people think on here. He's no John E. Bench or Carlton Fisk but he's an average catcher who gets big hits now and then. I think he's gonna hit 15-20 home runs a year and hit about .240 to .250. Now he's allegedly a better thrower than he's been so far this year, but he's not a complete hack like some portray him to be.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 03:02 AM) God I can't wait for Rodon to get into this rotation and Sox pitching to become damn near untouchable. Robertson...worth every penny. But don't spend on a bullpen right? So far he's been nasty. The eye test says unhittable so far.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 03:16 AM) Real nice having two good lefties in the pen too. That's a rarity. Definitely, especially after how bad the Sox lefties have been the last few seasons. Hope these guys keep it up.

4/14 - White sox vs Indians
You guys who didn't panic at 0-4 deserve credit. Impressed tonight with bullpen. Been awed by Robertson in all his save outings. If the bullpen is actually good and the starting pitching is good, uh, yes the Sox will be good. One series at a time, baby.

To start Noesi or skip Noesi
I'd skip Noesi whenever possible.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) Can't say enough what an amazing job Hahn did fixing pretty much every weakness, including bench utility guy. Man, you think our roster is that good? I would beg to differ. Every weakness is fixed on this team?

Adam Eaton
I won't turn on him yet, but he needs to relax and get on base. He seems awfully hyper.
