I've been thinking that the Sox have a bunch of bodies in the bullpen. They don't have the flamethrowers u need nowadays. Those 3 guys the Royals trot out there from the seventh on, all can throw 95 and all have nasty offspeed crap.
-
Micah if he wins the job and opens 1-for-35 or some such horrible start. Seriously ... Flowers of course. Third would be the new guys (at least that's been my style in the past) if they pull a Dunn and start oh, so slowly.

My phone has thunderstorm icons three days in a row, Mon through Wednesday. We could use some rainouts early counting days to Sale.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) I love this addition. Best addition of the offseason, in my opinion. Another good sign management wants to contend this season. Keep bringing in bodies in case it's like last year and guys are effective for 1-2 appearances then get lit up. Hope Coop is enthused and ready to manage some bodies.

Speaking of opening day weather ... it made me think about how this board has seasonal analogies. Fathom hibernates all winter, not posting on this board and then he blooms in the spring, like the leaves on the trees, the ivy on the walls, etc. The arrival of Fathom is the arrival of spring and baseball.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) I'm not sure who will be more hated this year, LaRoche or Gillaspie. Both are going to be whipping boys, along with Danks. Is LaRoche destined to suck? Does he look like he's done this spring?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) I was doing some fact checking on winning teams and found this interesting tidbit: at the end of the season and the playoffs and World Series only one team out of thirty ends up winning it all. Begs the question "in the end how do you judge success?" Well, I would say great success for this team would be to finish 10 over .500. Pure and simple. That would mean the Sox have taken care of their problem of getting owned by teams in their own division and it would mean they are damn competitive again. Let's face it. On paper, our defense is below average to lousy; our starting pitching is promising (Sale, Samargia, Q must be all-star caliber though) and our bullpen is average to lousy. Our hitting looks good to very good unless 2B and C are totally automatic outs. Defense and pitching win divisional games. We shall see if Sox defense and pitching is good. My prediction: We're going to be more disappointed than happy this season. HOPE I"M WRONG

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) According to Reifort he was hurt a lot of spring training. They were all pulling for him, it just wasn't there. Did Brian get any at bats? His legacy is he couldn't hit big league pitching.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) It's not though. That's the intended consequence in a limited, specific circumstance, but the point of the law is to provide protection to Christians that don't want to work gay weddings or in some way support gay weddings. As some people have already come out and said, they'll serve gay people, they won't serve at a gay function. There is a distinction there, whether you agree with it or not. I'm just happy the s*** has hit the fan because lawmakers can't write laws in simple English. Nobody can understand the fricking law. However, I'm also getting pissed off at the vocal left in this issue forcing a pizzeria to close its doors. People need to fricking chill out. The governor supposedly is dumbing down the law, putting it in simple English which should be a lesson to all lawmakers. I have no sympathy for politicos who write mumbo jumbo laws, but I also feel for the pizzeria owners. They shouldn't be harassed and denied a living over THEIR beliefs. Live and let live the Beatles once said. https://www.yahoo.com/tech/indiana-pizzeria...5307450604.html

Folks, I am all for gay rights. For sure. But I think people are overreacting. This law isn't mean to deny gays service. The problem, and I'm glad the governor is getting fried, is nobody can understand how to read a f***ing law. The mumbo jumbo legalese is impossible to understand. So this is a lesson to governors everywhere. Write your damn laws in words we can all understand!

The official, Predict the 2015 White Sox record thread
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Five or so below .500. I hope the team is much better, though. I bought mlb.com package. Nothing would surprise me. I've said it time and again ... can this team start winning series in the Central? I hope we get one in KC to open the season. It would be buzzkill to get swept by the AL Champs who will be playing with house money as everybody honors them opening series. -
I hope he makes their team. Would love to see him get a chance.

Awful. No words. -
Didn't Obama or his press secretary actually praise OU for kicking those guys out of school? I thought I saw that somewhere. I wonder if there's any update on this story.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) Northern weather. It snowed 2 inches yesterday, it's 60 with T-Storms on Wednesday, then it will go down to 15 on Saturday. That's really insane. I hate the March/April snowstorms. Hate to get in an accident or something when it should be 60 every day as a minimum.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) They didn't rule out 8 in the bullpen to start the year earlier this spring. I don't think it'd be a great idea either. If Sox have eight relievers, let's see if they have the longest games in the majors during that span.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 06:03 AM) I love Q, he absolutely deserves it, but Shark makes sense on the match-ups and Sale coming back plus that extra respect card to get him to re-sign with us. No issue with this at all, I've anticipated this all along when Sale went down. I think he will eat up the "new" KC (FU Rios), not as much as Sale would but Ventura vs. our new line up against Big Game Shields' vs. last years line up doesn't phase me. Sox will be 1-0 at the end of the day. Book it. Don't be so confident. That team is talking about doing in the regular season what it did in the postseason last year. Lead after six innings then bring in those 3 untouchable relievers. Also you still have to contain Hosmer, Moose, Cain and Perez who can put up the 3-4 runs that they need to win most games. Sox need to end the hex vs. KC.

Poor Andy Wilkins. Shouldn't they trade him somewhere he's got a chance to play?

Hey who won large class state in Illinois? I lost interest when my beloved Benet team fell out and my beloved Brother Rice team had no chance this season.

Hoiberg 60% chance hes going to replace Thibs

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) That's not at all what it says. He's been part of searches with the Cavs, Warriors and Timberwolves. I think he goes to the NBA at some point, but there's nothing to suggest he's ready to leave yet with a Final Four caliber team returning. College coaches have to be in it for more than the slight chance they'll win it all. They make great money as Hoiberg does and they, if successful, are icons in their towns and on their campuses. I know you NBA fans think the NBA is the top and all that, but for the most part, NBA coaches are buffoons and caretakers of the big egos. I have a friend who is a very important NBA official and he told me all the NBA wants nowadays are guys who can make the players laugh. They don't give a f*** about Xs and Os. If Hoiberg and some other college coaches like Self want to coach in that league, more power to them, but coaching in that league is all about the payday, not the experience (unless u get LeBron, Durant on your roster). Fred Hoiberg has a heart history and is beloved in Ames. He has a family. He should stay put, but will he? p.s. What is the Bulls' problem in not appreciating Thibs? He seems dandy to me. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 05:09 AM) They match up well vs Kansas, but Kansas is still a much tougher out than WSU. I know it's a cliche, but Notre Dame really wanted it today in a game against an equally fiery Butler team. We will find out Sunday how much Kansas wants it. Will their sometimes zombielike turnover prone team play balls out basketball as Butler and ND did? We shall see. From what I've seen, ND is a FAR superior team over Kansas.

Brad Penny touching 94, leading candidate for 5th starter
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 02:14 AM) Brad Penny gets $100,000 if he goes to Triple-A for the #WhiteSox. He has an opt out on 6/1 if he's not in the majors. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/579420985671041024 My prediction is they dont hand him 100,000 bucks to go to the minors. He either makes the team or they release him. Giving him the ball is no worse than giving it to Carroll as the fifth starter for one start or two to see if he can pitch. They won't donate 100,000 to him IMO. It's big league team or release. -
MLB's "demise" is greatly premature to declare

It's amazing the money in the TV contracts. Are TV networks the only businesses that are thriving during the lean economic years/current recession? All you hear about are the huge network contracts. -
He's only 21. Nice to have a bright prospect.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 18, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I don't agree that expulsion from a public university was appropriate. It seems like a pretty clear violation of their first amendment rights. I have no idea why you're talking about video games, but if they made a game that was explicitly racist as the song they sang and was essentially a pro-KKK game set in 1920's Mississippi or something, it would be even worse than the song just based on the effort of that versus singing a song. It seems like you're still thinking the biggest problems with the song are that they used "n*****" or that it was somehow speaking approvingly of generic, non-racist lynching or something. At least that's the only way I can get to you video game comparison. The problem with the song isn't some sort of generalized approval of violence, it's specifically the racially targeted, white supremacist violence. Your first paragraph ... expulsion was the best decision, a great decision. Top administrators have the right to kick people out of their institutions. The frat members didn't deny that it was them on tape. Unlike a court of law where it's in the courts forever even if it's on tape that a crime was committed, university leaders, high school leaders can boot kids off campus if they do something incredibly asinine. Now maybe a high school would merely suspend the kid a month, but I believe it was full within the president's right to kick the frat boys out of school. Freedom of speech rights? Not in this case. It's a school. They did something terribly infammatory and the president of course had the right to boot their asses back to Texas.
