Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?
greg775 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) and that is the bullcrap that gets to me. wash has a viable 6 man rotation, bos is signing a pitcher i really like in eveland (sp) padres are looking to adding arms. the sox have a 1 yr rental in jeff s, many are expecting rodon to come in lights out and pitch. the 4/5 of the rotation has question marks. what happen an injury happens, what happen if hector doesn't perform like last yr. what happen if erik johnson or beck does not come thru. this is basically what happen last yr. i am not being overally negative, more like cautious. but this is what JR does, just spend enuf to entice, to get the fans hype, to bring in advance ticket sales. I was going to mention Danks as well cause I still like him. Your post makes me add him. So you got Sale, Q, Shark, Danks and maybe Rodon at some point? The Sox still could suck, but I don't think you can argue that the pieces are there. Even if Gillaspie sucks we have a realistic option to put in to replace him. p.s. Why am I forgetting second base? With Semien gone, who starts there? Funny that such a dime a dozen position we have no automatic starter yet. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) 2015 is going to be a great season.... do not get me wrong on this. i can't wait for the start of the season. but at the same time, lets not pull the wool over our eyes. There are more than enough good players on this team to where Robin 'should' get axed if we don't finish over .500 at least. I mean geez. You got Shark, Sale and Q (though somebody I trust told me today Q is overrated). You got Abreu, Melky, A. Garcia, Eaton, Alexei and LaRoche for gosh sakes. You got a catcher who is pretty good defensively. And you got a strong closer and enough candidates where you should be able to piece together a bullpen (cmon Coop, do it!). Sox don't NEED to make any more moves. Players need to perform. -
Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?

This is definitely not the time to be disappointed at all. The Christmas analogy was great. People are being brats if they want more right now. Time for players to achieve -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 11:34 PM) I pride myself in trying them all, lol. Yeah, I'm not actually raw dogging that was just a joke. Well I was put she was on BC. I know about precum and everything. So her dad found out we were dating and told her she had to get on BC because her sister got knocked up by her now brother-in-law. She said she didn't want to get on it because it was going to make her all moody. So she got on it and I was excited but then she started getting nauseous all the time and became incredibly moody. In the five years of knowing her I never saw anything like it. It was making us fight for the first time and I just wanted to know if anyone had experienced anything similar. She's going to go to the doctor to get on a different type of BC. I hope the craziness levels. Interesting it makes her moody. I didn't know that was a side effect. That sucks.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
greg775 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd trade Melky in a blockbuster and acquire some pieces for him. -

greg775 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not disappointed because they made an attempt to improve the disastrous bullpen and added Shark to the rotation. Can't really ask for too much more in addition to the two good hitters they got. Signing everybody off the free agent list doesn't guarantee squat as the Red Sox and Yankees and Angels and Dodgers will tell you. -
Phil Rogers argues for Buehrle to the Hall of Fame case building
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You know what would be a good tradeoff: Dump Danks for Buehrle in our rotation. Mark's style of pitching rubs off on others and he always sets a good example. Danks arguably has better stuff, but I'd take the tradeoff. I realize Mark makes a ton of money now, though. I can't rip the Sox front office since they've added a lot of salary already since last season, but in theory ... -
I'm not a big Obama fan, but I can understand why he wouldn't want to go to the service in France. I won't criticize him for that decision.

There is no doubt if you are rich it changes the playing field. There's no way in hell these guys 50 and over would be dating red hot 21-25 year olds if not for the cold, hard cash. Now do the young women find some things to like about the geezers besides the cash? Sure. But they'd never ever give the geezers a chance without the fat fat wallet/bank account/portfolio.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) My girl has been on and off birth control for the last couple months and changed from very relaxed to up my ass. I am writing it off as just hormonal s*** but I'm annoyed but we've been fighting more than I'd like. I got yelled at for going to the bar and not telling her last week. I sent her a picture of my buddy when we were at the bar and she's like "why didn't you tell me you were there?" And it didn't end there. Birth control is just a bag of pros and cons. I am slow, but why is she off birth control? Did she tell you to use condoms? I think if she's getting on your case, that's a big time red flag. But then in another post you said she cleans your place all the time. That is pretty cool. So I'm torn.

Phil Rogers argues for Buehrle to the Hall of Fame case building
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) I loved Coopers quote and I love every bit of how Buehrle pitched. He is one of my all time favorite pitchers to watch for the way he did things. Maybe that is just something that stat people can't appreciate but he was awesome to watch pitch. He was and is extremely unique on the mound. Amen! Of course he'll deserve the Hall but he won't get in. The Hall of Fame will be ignoring starting pitchers in the future. Not enough wins over a long enough period of time because of injuries and starters getting pulled early too. Mark Buehrle won't have to feel badly for not getting the honor he deserves. Cause no starters will be getting in the Hall. Their numbers just won't compare to the golden oldie guys who defined the high high standard of hall of Fame pitcher. But is Mark a Hall of Famer? Of course. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) You are one of my favorite posters. Not kidding. If nothing else, you keep it interesting around here. Thanks. I hope all these moves the Sox made all work out. It does seem like there are a lot of good players on the South Side at this time.

Soxtalk is a true delight. I think I'm the best poster. Kidding.

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) for some reason when I think of Jordan Danks, I think of Jimmy Landis. About the same build. Jimmy was the better hitter but not by much. When I think of Viviedo I think of thick between the ears, no basis for fact, but I suspect his IQ is not very high. thanks, douglas I think my Brian Anderson comparison is the true one. Wasn't Jim Landis a damn good hitter/player? I don't know about Viciedo being dumb. That's a new one. It's pretty annoying that he's not more selective at the plate. When he connects he hits them so hard and far, but he rarely connects.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 08:19 PM) Yes, but was all on him? i'm looking at the whole career not just a couple of years. You can look at the few, if you wish. I'm partially jaded in that he was a fun person the few times I had the chance to hang out with him and most everyone likes him as a person. Everyone can have their own opinion, I just happen to think that he did an awful lot for this team and was a key component in the success of the team for a number of years. He's like most ballplayers in that he's all about the buck. Big deal. It ended badly. You can't tell me, though, that Ozzie Guillen doesn't care about Jerry and the White Sox. I mean sure Guillen is a spoiled-rotten ex-ballplayer. But in the big picture, he bleeds White Sox black. You can't convince me otherwise of that. The bottom line is it was a Kenny-Ozzie war and Kenny won the war. Kenny won decisively cause Ozzie doesn't figure to manage ever again. Will he work in baseball again in any capacity?? Not so sure except in broadcasting. Kenny does deserve credit, for lauding Ozzie publicly in the press all the time, when he clearly could rub it in after winning the war. As much as I worship Ozzie, I think if he'd have won the war, he'd probably still be needling Kenny in the press.

This didn't surprise me about Danks. Doesn't look like he's going to make it. I hope some lousy team gives him a chance to play every day one season to see if he's a major leaguer or just Brian Anderson.
-
I would have passed on Melky and signed Ioki. And I'd sign one more great starter like Shields. We're going to be good though on paper with Sale, Smardj, Q and Danks. Who's our fifth starter?

I still can't believe the lousy Christmas I had and how selfish the people I was with in Chicago happened to be. Two of the three days I was home I had to hear and try to calm down my grown sister who was screaming at the top of her lungs. And I still can't believe I heard one of my close relatives scream "Merry f***ing Christmas" at my mom as they settled their issues. I thought only these dysfunctional families appeared on Springer and only appeared on there to earn a buck. My family is suburbia all the way (after they moved from Mt. Greenwood many moonsa ago), with my close relatives all making big bucks and my mom sitting on a fortune (knock on wood for her, you could always lose your fortune). I mean, WTF. I hadn't been in Chicago in a year and I'm still shaking my head over the behavior I witnessed. I'll get over it, but geezus. Happy f***ing New Year (I had to say it before my relative did, I guess). Glad I'm in my safe haven in Kansas where I worked and went to church twice today (once during day for Holy Day) and midnight celebration.

Another "Ozzie wants to get back into baseball" article
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The pressure definitely is on Robin/Coop this year. With the improved roster (no excuses, these new bullpen pieces should be so much better than last year) I'm sure Soxtalk will be aflame against Robin if the Sox fall out of contention early. This team has bonafide stars in Sale, Abreu, Melky and our new closer. The lineup is good enough to contend (on paper), the starting pitching is definitely good enough to contend (on paper), the bullpen is good enough to contend (on paper). The only huge weakness remains defense. If the Sox stink after all these moves, I would think Hahn would be very pissed at Robin (assuming he thinks managers mean anything). -

After reading every word of that article, I am now a big fan of Robin and Kenny Williams. Read their words closely. They praise Ozzie incessantly. Class acts of them to praise Ozzie. I wonder if Maddon would bring in Ozzie as Cubs 3B coach or if he has a problem with Ozzie. I think Robin would do it but can't because of his mouth. Just the chance he might do even one interview is too risky. His words obviously would come out as second-guessing Robin even if he didn't mean that. 3B coaches rarely get interviewed once the season starts, but it'd happen with Ozzie occasionally and one interview would be too many. I loved Ozzie's quotes about the Marlins ruining his career. It's amazing how that owner quickly soured on Oz. Man, when Ozzie made those comments about the owner, that was that. I do worship Ozzie and I say that knowing if I ever met him, he might offfend me or get in my face. He's that unpredictable. -
No. It should be shelved forever. The man managed the White Sox to a WS title for gawd sakes. Sometimes I think people think that's an easy accomplishment on the South Side. It's almost impossible, folks, and he did it!

Should The Sox Buy the Old Post Office For A New Stadium?
greg775 replied to nitetrain8601's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) The only "crack" going on here is you cracking me up by continuing to suggest the location at 35th and Shields is the "best spot" for this franchise. I don't know why you keep saying this. It. Is. Not. The decades of poor attendance records proves that beyond a doubt. Not to mention, but the current location wasn't even in the current ownership's top three choices back in the 80s when they were looking for a place to build the new park. As has been mentioned ad nauseum, the area lacks the surrounding nightlife options that so many other ballparks have, and there remains a carryover stigma from many years ago that the area around the ballpark isn't the safest. You combine those two considerable factors, and you can have the best rail service, the most amazing traffic patterns, and all the parking in the world, and it won't matter. As long as the destination itself remains as it is today - uninspiring with no attractions - no one is going to go there unless there is a bona fide winner on the field. That hardly defines the current location as the "best spot" for the Sox. Good post. It's time for suburbia, folks. Build a palace. We're talking Jerry Jones/Dallas Cowboys-like palace. Obviously will never happen, but I thought I'd throw that out there. Sox will never move out of the Cell cause it will take government money to build the new stadium and that will never be approved again. They'll let the Sox move next time.
