Very sad day. I'll have a lot of time to get used to this guy being a White Sox and try to get over it. Sad.

Glad the cop who shot a 12 year old boy who had an air gun is in trouble over this senseless death. Renews my faith. Glad the authorities agree you don't shoot down a 12 year old kid who is holding a toy gun. http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/04/justice/clev....html?hpt=hp_c2

"threats" on facebook turns into Supreme Court case
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 01:47 AM) As a teacher of children who are growing up in a digital world, this is serious stuff. The choices when being bullied are to isolate yourself from the rest of your peers and society and stay offline, or face some terrible crap. Amen, Tex. This is serious. My take is if people are going to use "social media" as a forum to bully and act like irresponsible assholes, I hope they get the book thrown at them. -
Speaking of Democrats and Obama ... Did anybody see that AWESOME skit on Sat. Night Live a week or so ago where they had that funny cast member, don't know his name, the chubby (fat?) guy as host of a panel discussion. The gist of it was he asks his black guests questions about Obama failures and the guest comments on them and agrees that Obama is a joke, then the host asks the guest, "Does he lose your vote??" The guest immediately says, "No." He repeats it with 3-4 guests and they all say "no," when the host says, "does he lose your vote?" It's really funny and backs what I've said all along that Obama would be president the next 20 years or so if we had no term limits and he could keep running. No matter what he does and how inept he is ... he'd keep winning. It's a big LOL on our entire country. s***, it's like Kansas. Brownback is the worst government official probably in U.S. history (did you see the cuts he announced this week; slashing all sorts of organizations who do good things for citizens; and he'll kill all the programs for the elderly, etc) and what do KANSANS do ... they re-elect him. Shakin my head.

As it stands now, we might need to give Viciedo one more year. I wish he'd turn into at least an average defender, though. It's possible he'll start to emerge as a star now that we on paper have a contending team. Guys like Eaton, LaRoche, Abreu, Lexi might rub off on him. And Shark is a veteran pitcher as well as our new closer.
-
Three good starting pitchers are enough. If Q, Sale and Shark do well, that's more than enough because Danks is fine for a No. 4. Surely somebody in the organization is good enough to be our righty starter No. 5 because we need at least 2 righties.
-
Like Beckham, his Sox ship has sailed. He's got to go. I'd suspect Hahn dumps him for very little in return.
-
It's obvious Micah's presence made the Sox mighty comfortable in getting rid of Semien. So Micah ... fulfill the promise Hawk has for you NOW. Should be nice to have him in there.
-
Can you imagine if we got Masterson? We might have the best rotation in Sox history, OK modern Sox history. Sale, Q, Samardja, Masterson (if he rebounds), Danks (if he continues to rebound). All those other guys in the bullpen? Robin could have some amazing options.

QUOTE (glangon @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:39 PM) 23 blown saves we had last year. Robertson saved 39 out of 44 chances last year, Take that he blows 5 of the 23 we blew. Simplistically, we'd have won 18 more games with Robertson as closer. That would have taken us 91 wins. That is worth the $11.5 million a year we are paying him. Great post. It's always good to have a closer with a track record. Not meaning to start a fight here, but is this guy a LOT better than Addison Reed? But having a closer is great cause we can put some of those other guys in the battle for setup guys. It really was annoying last year seeing our guys blow game after game. I hope he gets off to a good start and is an effective closer all year. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:53 PM) What would be great is if Davidson bounces back and wins the 3b job, which is not out of the realm of possibility, and that allows Gillaspie to fill that role. Great point. Just imagine if Davidson wins the job and fulfills the promise the Sox obviously thought he had. Would be amazing if we had a power bat at third and he could field at least as good as Gillaspie.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
greg775 replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:00 AM) For us out of town White Sox fans you have to tell us more about his rep in Chicago. Most baseball fans outside of Chicago know Robertson but the Shark is just some guy whose name no one can pronounce. Till the Cubs traded him to Oakland, I thought he was a reliever. I can not read this whole thread. Tell me about Michael Ynoa please. Who is he? I love all of Hahn's moves, but I can't pretend these guys will pan out. You never know nowadays. But I've always been a free agent guy, Dunn notwithstanding, so bring em in and let em play. Interesting that Beane thinks Phegs and Semien can play. Could really backfire on the Sox if they are stars. -
So we got a closer, we got a righthanded starter to go with our other 2 great starters and Danks, we got a slugger. i'll hand it to Hahn. ON PAPER, he's turned the Sox into division favorites. How can you not win with 3 good starters (I'm not sold on the ex-Cub), a new bullpen set-up guy, a closer and a slugger to go with Abreu? Now it's up to the f***ing players to produce. Sox are division favorites now, even with the bad defense. p.s. sorry to see Semien go. Not convinced the ex-Cub is great. I'll give Hahn the benefit of the doubt. He's made moves that on paper make us the favorites. We'll see if in reality it happens. Getting greedy, it'd be nice to see an upgrade at one of these two spots (catcher and/or third base).

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Hey if the Sox do lose Semien ,which you would be upset about ,how would you feel if the Sox re-signed Gordon Beckham as Semien's replacemnt ? After all Gordon hit lefties for a .293 BA last year and might even play a better 3rd base than Marcus The Beckham ship mercifully has sailed away from the South Side. -

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) "White Sox: Micah Johnson, Trey Michalczewski, Nolan Sanburn" I think I would be OK with that deal considering I do not think Hahn would acquire Shark unless he was very confident in resigning him. Sounds like Sox are going to overpay to get this guy. Dumb. -
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 05:03 AM) No, I want to add the penalty if you can prove she made the whole damn thing up. Not being able to prove they did it is one thing. but when it can be shown that you just plain outright lied, because the guy didn't call you back, you saw deep pockets or some feminist group convinced you you had repressed memories, you are the one deserving of punishment, not the person you FALSELY accused. And FYI, being wrongly accused is also pretty traumatic, I can attest from first hand experience back in 1987. I am just glad they didn't have the kangaroo court s*** back then that they do now, even though I was still not allowed in any dorm except mine and was suspended from my sports teams. I was able to show that I was with other people the night in question and even out of town the next two days, justin case she had her days messed up. (She had made the claim saying it happened the prior weekend, so I can't imagine her messing the days up that badly) I had stopped dating the person over a month prior, and she had tried to get us together again more than once, with me saying no each time. I guess she just got mad or something, I don't know, was never allowed to ask or know what her replies were when shown proof that I wasn't there any time she claimed I was, or even near it. But I still got a lot of weird looks the rest of my junior year and even the next. I did nothing wrong, yet my senior year dating was pretty much non-existent and I still heard whispers at parties. That's rotten you got falsely accused. And awful it ruined your senior year as well. I'm not trying to be insensitive to women, but yes, some will make the s*** up to get even with a guy who breaks up with them when they don't want to break up. If it's proven the woman is lying, yes she should face consequences. Your case proves not all allegations are true.
-
There are two sides to every story. The frat should have had a chance to deny or say no comment. It's just one person's allegations, apparently. You can't run the story without contacting the frat's lawyer or dig a little deeper.

"threats" on facebook turns into Supreme Court case
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
I think a ton of people have gotten in trouble over "social media" posts. It's easy to be a tough guy on the internet. I hope tons of people get arrested/thrown in jail for internet threats. -
QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 01:20 AM) Thank you. I got one more; Send Robin Ventura to an improv class at Second City so his press conferences become slightly entertaining. One thing the Sox front office has to love about Robin is how boring he is. After Ozzeroo, whom I love of course, the franchise still is enjoying the calm water I'm sure. Ozzie on a daily basis could say ANYTHING as we all know.
-
I don't know why Melky is a possibility. Sox shouldn't touch that guy IMO. I hope somebody else signs him so he gets off the board soon.

Protestors forced some stores to close on Black Friday. America is pretty pissed and protesting.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) No work today, but working tomorrow. Have 7 employees who don't have any vacation time to use tomorrow so they have to work. I opted to come in so the supervisors could take the day off. Favorite thanksgiving foods are mashed potatoes and fresh rolls. That's cool so many soxtalkers work hard. Also neat you go for mashed potatoes. Seems too ordinary to be a favorite, but I have to agree I get psyched for mashed pots and rolls, too. Can't beat a hot roll.
-
Makes sense as one of the cheaper free agents.

I'm in Florida for Thanksgiving, but I wondered why we have no holiday threads on Soxtalk. Year went by awfully fast. Happy Thanksgiving. My question to you is: What is the favorite food you cook and eat today, or your wife cooks and you eat today or your mom cooks or your in laws cook that you eat today. I will say pumplin pie is gross and I hate sweet potatoes. I love my mom's dressing and mashed pots probably more than anything. Also like her rolls and my sister's green bean casserole. If I could have only one thing it'd be mom's dressing. GO SOX!

QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 06:14 AM) For fast food 5 guys is the best. There is a place here where the owner takes a ball of Blue cheese, wraps it in hamburger then wraps it in bacon. After he cooks it it is about the size of a 12 inch softball. You need to let it cool for 20 miutes then pop it. It deflates to an inch and a half patty. It is the best bacon blue burger created. Five guys is damn good, but a tad greasy. I know, greasy is good. And the fries there suck. Don't get me wrong, still like it. Best burgers: InNOut burger is damn good. Good shakes too. Funny how many people still go to McDonald's. I must say if I'm starving I can wolf down one of those double quarterpounders. I hate Smashburger.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Rioters are going after other cops families and homes. Sounds like a reasonable reaction. I do not wish to say Greg told you so, but some of you blasted me for predicting the riots that would happen after the verdict. Since nobody is patting me on the back I thought I'd remind you that I'm not always wrong about stuff. I still stand by my statement they should have announced the verdict at 9 a.m. I think that makes a lot of sense.
