OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
Our insurance at work went up another 20 percent today for next year. And we have a s***ty company, United. Our country is f***ed, folks. Healthcare is a big time joke.

Read a good op/ed column tonight saying the mean spirited asshole Republicans who desperately want to impeach Obama ought to go try and do it. It said it will show the Republicans for what they are, incapable of trying to lead, just to make life hell on Obama. It challenged the Repubs saying, "You know you want to do it; just do it. Impeach him at your own risk cause the public will see you for what you are." I think it was NY Times columnist but I forget.

Elvis Andrus
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) He is on a perfectly acceptable contract. He plays good defense and can hit a little bit. That's about about the going rate at this point for a player with Andrus' skill set. Also, small thing, but it's only 8 years. His contract is acceptable at 15 mill a year yet Soxtalk freaks out whenever we discuss acquiring guys who make a decent buck like that. Are the Sox different from all other teams? I say acquire Buehrle now and make Danks a reliever. And acquire some other guys as well.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:12 AM) here is a question I been meaning to ask. why do we need a closer. the sox have another yr of grooming in Jake Petricka - Zach Putnam. In answer to your question ... cause those two guys are not good enough. You can try both of them again next year; hopefully they are the answer but I would doubt it.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
I want a whole new bullpen next season. Miller sounds great. I will say this. Please please Mr. Hahn, before you make any offseason moves (and I hope you make TONS) please get your scouts together (without Buddy Bell) and discuss these guys (like Miller) and how you project them to play next season and seasons to come. Surely these scouts have opinions on CURRENT players as well as draft prospects. I mean I do blame the Sox for acquiring/signing stiffs like Keppinger and that starting pitcher whose name escapes me for last season (the guy who was a KC Royal) and Teahen and all the hacks who have sucked. If Andrew Miller projects to remain good, then sign him. If not, pass. Same with the other free agents. Don't just sign guys without PROJECTING.

Jeong-Ho Kang
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) "Do you think you can compete with the Tigers this year? "The question should be, 'do I think the Tigers can compete with us!'" The Sox are in a slump where they can't compete with anybody in the division in head to head games. Did finish ahead of Minnie though. And with Gardenhire gone, that team should be buried for a while.

Jeong-Ho Kang
Who is this guy? Is he available? I want him on the Sox NOW. What power!! He'll be a fan favorite with the glove and the bat. Is he a legit signee? Does Hahn know of him?
-
Elvis Andrus
So Andrus is another grossly overpaid guy? What's going to happen when every team except the truly low budget teams have 6-7 Andruses on the roster?
-
Alex Rios
Rios is no good but it would be funny to have him playing for the Sox at MLB minimum at least.

Hillary
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) I don't hate Hillary, but she's toward the bottom of the list of Dems that may or may not be contemplating a presidential run. What she is though is tough, experienced, and probably the most thoroughly vetted candidate to ever run. I don't expect any big surprises or mistakes. I do wonder if Dem voters, particularly the sort that vote in primaries, may be tired of her by then. The left has been growing more and more worried about her whole not-really-being-all-that-much-of-a-leftist thing. They were worried about that with Obama too, though, and he still won - of course, I don't think people knew that much about where he fit into the spectrum when he was getting elected. I thought it was interesting in that quote I posted that the guy said people are tired of her speaking down to them and her sense of entitlement. It said that hasn't worked in the past. I feel like those are legitimate points to make about Hillary. She doesn't deserve the presidency just because it's her turn. Give her some lifetime achievement award; not the presidency.

Jose Abreu wins Rookie of the Year 2014
Congrats to Abreu; quite a season. Congrats to Sox front office for signing him as well.

Hanh vs KW
QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 07:50 AM) Fill in the blanks: Rich Hanh is to _____________ as Kenny Williams is to _________________. Your selections can be factual, comical, senseless, or down right out in left field. I'll go first with an obvious one: Rick Hanh is to patience as Kenny Williams is to rapid trading like a speed freak turned GM. Rick Hahn is to (be judged at a still to be determined date) as Kenny Williams is to (continue to gaze lovingly at his WS championship ring) I'm being extremely nice to Kenny here since he brought us fans a title, even though we've stunk in several other of the seasons.

You are probably right. It figures to be a national lovefest again but that story got me wondering a bit

Hillary
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) Not to burst your hope bubble or anything, but the same people that elected Obama the second time (and would elect him a third time if they could), WILL elect Hillary. And not for nothing, but maybe that's because the only other party that stands a chance in our glorious two party system hasn't or can't offer anyone better. In either case, when the primary dust clears, I'm betting this election comes down to choosing between another Clinton or another Bush. Awesome.

Hillary
GEORGE WILL had a nice column today indicating it may not be all smooth sailing for Hillary in her quest to land what many believe is "entitlted" to be hers ... the Presidency. This gives me hope maybe she could lose. Will writes these two paragraphs. ... Please give me your comments. Yuval Levin, whose sharp thinking was honed at the University of Chicago’s Committee on Social Thought, is editor of the National Affairs quarterly and author of two books on science and public policy and, most recently, of The Great Debate: Edmund Burke, Thomas Paine, and the Birth of Right and Left. He is one of conservatism’s most sophisticated and measured explicators, so his biting assessment of Clinton is especially notable. He writes: She is smart, tough and savvy and has a capacity to learn from failure and adjust. But . . . people are bored of her and feel like she has been talking at them forever. . . . She is a dull, grating, inauthentic, over-eager, insipid elitist with ideological blinders yet no particular vision and is likely to be reduced to running on a dubious promise of experience and competence while faking idealism and hope — a very common type of presidential contender in both parties, but one that almost always loses. Greg says: Hmmmmm. This type of candidate almost always loses! Things could get interesting. My guess is if Hilly thinks there is ANY chance of her losing she won't run. Now if she gets what she is entitled to have, the presidency, she'll go ahead and be coronated. That's my take. Yours?

Dodgers OFs
It seems like we're destined to get one of their outfielders or more.

Official Recruiting Thread II
Seems like most of the top 15-20 players have wised up and will sign late if they "sign" at all. They realize it's not to their advantage to sign early. Zimmerman's mom says he won't sign a letter in case he needs to get out of it if the coach takes another job.

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread

From what I can tell, Oregon and TCU have incredible team speed. Amazed at all the dropped passes in Alabama-LSU.

Law/Legal Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) My wife fell into an unrepaired hole around a manhole cover last night and fractured her ankle. Should we sue the city like a bunch of money crazy mf'ers? Yeah, you've got to sue. It's like the poor guy who gets bit by a dog while jogging. He feels like a dick suing the person who owns the mutt, but you gotta do it. Sue the city. And tell your GF Soxtalk feels for her.

Michael Saunders
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) Here was what Alejandro De Aza did in June of 2014. I do not recall which team he was playing for at the time or who his manager was, but I believe it was the Chicago White Sox and Robin Ventura. .365/.423/.540/.962, 71 plate appearances Here is what he did with the Baltimore Orioles. .293/.341/.537/.878, 89 plate appearances Interesting. So the bottom line is DeAza is a better option than anybody we've been discussing.
-
What would be interesting
So Troy is another bad contract guy? Keep signing these guys to mega deals, baseball owners.
-
Michael Saunders
This is off topic a little bit, but i'm appalled at DeAza's improvement once he got to a team with a good manager. WTF. I mean if DeAza was going to do that we could have kept him another five years. Something has to give with our team, folks. Something may be amiss. Anyhow, Saunders for Viciedo might be a decent flip flop; we shall see.
-
Michael Saunders
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) That would be a coup for us. Saunders > Viciedo without question. Have you looked at Saunders' stats? It hardly would be a coup. It'd be two change of scenery guys like somebody stated on here. Saunders gets hurt a lot and that article made it sound like he's lazy. Another fourth outfielder type.

Dave Cameron Predicts the Free Agents
I won't print their stats, but all four of those guys mentioned stunk last year. I know baseball is full of bad players, but the Sox probably should keep their own if it means picking up any one of those four guys. Rasmus and Kendrys Morales simply aren't the answer; they aren't even full time players. Young has never done it and don't we have enough Bonifacio types on our team already?
