Are these Melky rumors really valid? Thought of him being on the team is already ruining my offseason.

Vanished from radar - the Erik Johnson enigma
greg775 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 02:10 AM) Who cares? He vanished from the radar because he was REALLY bad. THe odds of that suddenly changing aren't good. Sign somebody, with a track record who is righthanded, and move on. Erik Johnson was so bad. Man. Sox have money to spend and could easily swipe needed righty Shields from the Royals' grasp. In fact, it might be wise to steal Shields, Aoki and Butler and take away their mojo. Suddenly we have to worry about the Royals being the new Tigers. Hahn could really strip the mojo by signing those three Royals. Shields ... 3 years 45 million. Butler ... 2 years 12 million with option year. Aoki ... 2 years 10 million. Is it worth the risk? Throwing 67 million at Royals over 7 years? It's just 26 million to Royals for next season. Sox payroll is fine after adding the 26 mill. -
Please no Melky. Somebody tell the White Sox we fans will be sickened and saddened if the Sox acquire that bum. Please no Melky. I'd rather have Aoki if it means Melky is a White Sox. Believe it or not I'd rather have Adam Dunn next season than cheater Melky. Yes I am totally serious. Sign Dunn if it keeps Melky away.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:56 AM) Loved the Bartman rip on Cubs fans Think about what we witnessed. The fans actually helped Moustakas and didn't foolishly impede him for a f***ing baseball. There could easily have been another fan made infamous tonight in a different scenario. The Bartman thing remains amazing. All for a damn baseball. Fans can be so fricking stupid. And Bartman wasn't the only guy going for the ball. Slo mo showed that other moron who actually ended up with the ball and sold it was trying to impede Alou as well. Only the Cubs could lose two straight to the Marlins at home like that -- the Marlins. Wow it must be tough to be a Cub fan.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) O's just need to find a way to break the mojo that KC has going. Seed some doubt. These are still young guys with zero playoff experience and their riding a high of invincibility. And they're still the Royals. Actually KC fans are scared to death. They feel once they lose a game the mojo will be all gone. A talk show host was trying to talk them off the ledge saying it's not the case, that they can survive the shock of a loss. Tonight, DeAza goes 3-5 and Baltimore wins, 9-3.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) In the wake of pretty epic failures of that hospital (medical professionals), and people brazenly ignoring protocols, quarantine, etc., it may be time to instate some temporary drastic measures to curb what will become mass hysteria in the coming weeks of flu season, and instate these protocols before this thing falls off the rails. The last thing we need right now are full ER's because someone has the sniffles, because they read something about Ebola, etc, but it's exactly where we are headed. For example, I know someone working at the hospital by O'Hare that has been designated "the hospital where Ebola patients/threats will be transported too", and everything is confusion, nobody at the hospital knows what to do if/when it happens, nor do they have the equipment on hand to tackle the situation. They don't have the clean/hazmat suits because they're on backorder (lol), among many other issues of personnel and complete lack of training. While I'd urge people to stay calm and understand exactly what Ebola is and how it sperads, there are already plenty of reasons to be on alert at this point, and IMO, the medical professionals of the US have dropped the ball thus far. Great post. One thing is for sure. This story is developing, far from finished.

I'll keep it short: I don't think you should trade a guy if there's absolutely no one to replace him. Reed was a suitable closer. I happen to think he was a good 25-year-old closer (40 saves in 2013), many say he was average to bad in spite of his save totals. The same people say Hahn had a replacement in Nate Jones, who got hurt. I feel about Jones the way many feel about Reed, that he was never the answer. The guy the Sox got for Reed (Davidson) doesn't bother me near as much as we traded a guy who was not effectively replaced. I think the Sox reached 2 over .500 at one point after a good amount of games this past season despite having no bullpen. My contention is not having a closer and other bullpen pieces finally was the reason this team got buried back into oblivion. Yes, I'd feel a lot different about the trade if Nate Jones replaced Reed and been lights out with 30-50 saves. In actuality, nobody replaced Reed. As far as Davidson, he appears to be a huge bust, but some insist he had to be devastated after not getting the job in spring training and it sent him into a season-long tailspin. Maybe he'll make the team next spring training and be the answer at third for 10-15 years to come. We shall see. I am not a Reed hater, though. Even though many on here say he sucks, I like his save totals. So what if he has some shaky saves. So does Greg Holland of the Royals. He puts guys on base in many of his saves but usually gets the save. So far I'd say Arizona won the trade; that could change if Davidson turns into a good to great hitter/fielder.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 05:07 AM) Greg were you also a member there? the night I left, someone was going to be suspend for a simple joke. then oh hell broke lose. was that you? maybe head22 or someone else can answer. I totally forgot. Not me. I never went over there. I think when I got suspended for three or six months here I checked it out over there and wasn't into it. This board looks good, is easy to navigate and I didn't need to get involved in two boards. This was enough Sox discussion for me, especially since I ofttimes would be involved in intense dialogue over here.

I don't understand all your repsonses so I'll make the point again and try again. If a group of protestors are going to sit in the middle of the street and not let traffic pass and sit in the front of Quik Trip and not let people in, I think a.) they should be warned they have to move via loudspeaker. b.) be warned that in 10 minutes they will be arrested with the possibility of mace. And c.) ultimately get arrested and if they fight, they must get cuffed or maced. You can't block traffic like that. It's not safe for anybody.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 03:59 AM) I agree. Those people at that counter should be maced and beaten with clubs. That's america. I'm slow tonight. I have no idea what your last two posts meant.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) I understand the scaring part, the faux threats, the treasure hunts that could get you in trouble, even th drinking competitions. But the sodomy stuff, what THE f***. Not only would I never want that done to me, but I would never ever in a million years want to do that to someone else Yeah, that's how I feel. That's why I posted that about evil coming out in these cases. To want to do that to someone else means the perpetrator is depraved. Is a sexual deviant. I guess they are out there and when you are allowed to turn the lights off as a senior and scare the freshmen, the deviants in the group apparently see it as a way to perhaps get away with a sexual crime. Weird and sad and sickening cause like you say a normal person doesn't want to sodomize a freshman football player. I'm glad they canceled the season. The innocent kids ... yes I"m sad for them, but hopefully they can go out of basketball. Or some of 'em can, or track in the spring.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) I know. Could you imagine preventing a business from being able to serve customers just because of unfair treatment? How horrible that would be. That's totally un-American. Thing is, once the protestors start doing stuff to impede other people's rights ... that's when the protestors are gonna get maced and beaten with clubs, etc. You can't block entrances to stores, and prevent traffic from going through lights, etc. Seems like the protestors are getting antsy and causing some commotion rather than being peaceful.

TMZ caught the NBC employee who was quarantined out shopping. So you could see how selfish stupid people could help spread this rather quickly.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) The coming of age and membership rituals go back centuries. From long periods of fasting and isolation to debutante balls they all are part of the same ritual behavior arc. We have graduations, retirement parties, swearing in ceremonies, and dedications. Think about the blood brother rituals, the fight your way in, or sex your way in to certain groups. Prove you are tough, can take pain, be silent, respect the traditions, etc. Now why do some groups take these to extremes? Great post. A pessimist could say man is inherently evil or evil exists and if perverted people are included in the group the ritual makes it easy to bring out the evil. If those 7 perpetrators are sexually depraved people this gives them an opportunity to commit violent sex acts and maybe get away with them. The evil comes out in the ritual. These acts are definitely crimes and it should be interesting to see if those 7 kids go to jail or get only probation. Intersting quote in the Yahoo article today... "Getting to the root of the problem is difficult when victims, for the most part, are trying to become part of an inner group," said Brendan Dwyer, assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University's Center For Sport Leadership and a former college football coach. "They're willing to be part of a hazing ritual if they're going to be accepted on a team."

Lot of arrests last night. Protestors are getting more aggressive. Holding a sit in front of a place of business and preventing people from people going in is not a good idea. St. Louis police chief says rocks were thrown at cops. That's another good way to have mass arrests happen.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) Hospital stated it was due to a violation of treatment protocol without saying what the violation was. This hospital isn't covering themselves in dignity. This article really states how serious this is. They quarantined the woman's pet and have put fliers on the doors of a lot of people's apartments in a four-block radius. There just has to be a good chance some more who were in contact with the hospital worker come down with symptoms.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 05:01 AM) People on here absolutely s*** on De Aza whenever they got the opportunity, you included. We're frustrated cause he stunk in Chicago. Who is to blame is the question.

I've never understood these hazing crimes. Seven high school football upperclassmen in Jersey are likely facing prison time for basically raping freshmen in the locker room. Four kids would allegedly pin the freshman player down while others did bad sexual stuff to the freshman. I've read stories in the past about high school and even college teams doing this kind of stuff. If I'm a head football coach the first day of practice or at a team meeting the day before practice I read the players the riot act. I tell them "there is no f***ing hazing in my program. I don't care if it's a "tradition" to haze, it will not happen. We are a team, freshmen through seniors. If I get word of anybody doing anything improper you are not only off the team but the cops will be notified immediately." Geezus. WTF were these 7 kids thinking. Thankfully my frat didn't haze in college aside from the seniors throwing eggs at us after we returned from Walkout. I'd have quit that frat before I let anybody haze me. I don't let anybody abuse me physically even if its tradition passed down. Also no sports teams I ever played on pulled this bulls***. Any of u been "hazed?" http://www.nj.com/middlesex/index.ssf/2014...al_assault.html

Kenny Williams a possible GM for Dodgers?
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) A few million dollars a year could change anyone's mind. Yep. Great post. Money talks. Why the Dodgers think they have to pay him a ton of money though is beyond me. He's just another guy IMO although I will give him props for '05. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 12:21 AM) De Aza is just a good ballplayer. Shame a lot on here couldn't see it. A lot "on here?" Blame the White Sox front office and coaches. He was a headcase in Chicago with all those mental mistakes on the basepaths and miscues in the outfield. The Sox pretty much were forced to dump him for little to nothing in return. Even Hawk and Stoney got on him on TV he was so bad. If he's a great ballplayer, it doesn't look good that the Sox were not able to bring it out of him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 06:39 AM) Bud Norris will go in Game 2. Here's why, 18/79 (current Royals) against him, just one homer, six RBI's (Ibanez has hit him the best and most, and is likely to get the nod over Butler IMO at DH), .228/.274/.291/.565 slash line. Likely Game 3 starter Wei-Yin Chen has been battered and bruised by KC. 41/129, 6 homers, 17 RBI's, Hosmer and Butler with two homers each, .318/.343/.535/.878 slash line. Seems quite obvious, but the Orioles simply have to win behind Norris, because the loudest stadium in MLB history and those startling career statistics against Chen equals doom if they go to KC down 2-0 in a best of 7. Think it's a good thing for KC that Ventura gets to go in the daytime/late afternoon instead of the primetime lights. The glare/shadows will definitely help him out a lot. This is why all the advanced stats don't matter much of the time. Norris gave up nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. Norris sucked today. One thing is for sure. Tigers fans have to be wondering how the Sox (2005) and Royals (this year) have had no problems winning postseason games compared to their poor Tigers who more often than not, choke.

Ventura unlikely to be fired this off season
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 03:07 AM) It's not outrageous to think Ned Yost should be fired after the playoffs. I chuckle at all the criticism of managers. He implements the bunt. Big deal. Lots of teams still bunt. His one mistake this year IMO was bringing in Ventura in relief the other night. Other than that it's just fans being fans in criticizing him. If you lose you can always blame the manager. People are blaming Robin for certain moves he makes with the historically inept bullpen. So dumb IMO. -
Kenny Williams a possible GM for Dodgers?

Makes sense. He'd have more money to work with. No biggie either way. -
This has all spread to St. Louis. Protestors stopping cars, stopping traffic, some rock throwing. This is starting to heat up on ustream tonight. My guess is once the gangs get involved in this it could get ugly. Something's got to be done. This situation in the St. Louis area is a powerderkeg. It could go either way right now, but people seem to be getting more violent. You might call me an alarmist, but from the video I've seen I wouldn't want to be in those cars stopped by the mobs. The mobs have been yelling at people in the cars and wouldn't let an ambulance through for a while finally relenting. Once somebody sets one of these cars on fire, or tips one over, look out. Obama is going to have to get involved. This is tipping toward violence. Ferguson protests on a nightly basis were becoming "routine" with lots of chanting, no violence. This St. Louis stuff is a much tenser deal.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) There is a huge, huge difference between baiting law enforcement and/or other government officials into reacting a certain way and baiting asshole Cardinals fans into reacting a certain way. Yeah, last night's video was pretty compelling. Any pictures of the scene have to be award winners. One of the video bloggers had shots of black women about a foot from the faces from a white cop, yelling at him and screaming at him. He didn't do anything and tried not to look at them. They were so close to his face it was creepy.
