Farewell to Dayan Viciedo
Obviously the Sox want no part of Dayan anymore. I credit him for hitting a few bombs. But with his excess weight, lousy lousy defense and inability to do anything but hit those 20 bombs a season, he's worthless if that's the right word. I just loved those homers he hit. Rockets. Don't know the guy. Don't know if he's uncoachable, but I'm guessing "he is what he is" and has no intention of doing anything but swinging balls out at every pitch near the strike zone, rarely walking and giving a rat's ass about defense. Somebody with a hitter friendly park (yes I know we have one) ought to give him a chance if they are desperate for a DH.

Victor Martinez tears meniscus
Damn. Feel bad for the guy. Once again this shows the danger of signing these guys as they age to mega buck deals. Lot of Sox fans wanted him. This injury could start a rapid decline. Rapid.

Why the heck does she want a photographer at the proposal? Will there be any suspense/surprise at all? I don't get this one very well.

Give me an off-season you enjoyed more than this 2014-2015...
Fun offseason for fans. But all we need to remember is Adam Dunn. The Sox acquisitions could all suck and the Sox could quickly resemble the Phillies or some team like that. I hope for the best and applaud Hahn. I just hope all these new guys are motivated and talented.

Sox sign Gordon Beckham, designate Viciedo for Assignment
QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) Maybe this is Beckham's time to finally right his ship on get back on his true Hall of Fame path.... It's coming......Believe The fact he moved to the Angels and stunk has to be an eye opening experience. This is it for Beckham. I would think he'd be flat out MOTIVATED to become something. Maybe not, but it's worth one last chance with him especially since we have nobody at 2B. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) I'm optimistic about the team and this year. Totally. But that said, those of you thinking about upper 80s to 90 wins are - in my mind - completely out of touch with reality. BP is projecting 78 wins, and while we usually beat PECOTA by an average of 7 wins/season, that STILL only puts us at 85 wins. Things would have to swing astronomically in the right direction for us to be in the playoff picture. 5 more wins is a lot to get out of this lineup/pitching staff. Not impossible - it happened in '05 - but unlikely. I don't think there's any world in which Robin gets fired this year UNLESS the team does worse than last year, which I also don't see happening. Side note. Gordon Beckham is a better baseball player than Emilio Bonafacio, so in that regard, I like the move. I don't know why people are unwilling to say this team should win the division. If it doesn't contend, Robin definitely should be on the hot seat. If it continues to suck in division play, etc., something's wrong. Team on paper has contender written all over it.

Reasons on Not Signing any Long Term FAs
Shields would be a decent signing if he'd go for 2-3 years. I thought he sucked late last season but he's a veteran innings guy. How bout two years 10 mill a year and sign him up?

Sox sign Gordon Beckham, designate Viciedo for Assignment
This is going to shock those who know Greg (and his hatred for Becks), but I like it. Micah isn't ready and I don't like the other options at 2B. The guy is a great fielder. He's maddening to watch hit, but guess what? If this first rounder is EVER going to make it big, this is it for him. He no longer can be cocky or complacent (if he was those things). Perhaps he'll listen to his hitting coaches and drill the ball to the opposite field. My point is, the Sox have lousy options at second right now, and if Beckham is ever going to do squat in the bigs, it might as well be THIS season for the White Sox. After all the additions the Sox have made, I don't mind Beckham starting at second.

Boras: World Series should be held at a neutral site for better marke
The neutral site idea is awful. Fans won't buy season tix. Dull atmospheres. No civic pride puff pieces. Bad

New MLB Commish suggests ban on shifts
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:03 AM) Exactly what I was coming to post. They want to increase scoring, and this is far less drastic than lowering the mounds or changing the baseballs or bats. Although, those changes probably wouldn't even be noticed by the average fan either. I don't really mind if they eliminate shifts. It will make the game more exciting for those casual fans who think games can be boring. Another positive would be it will help with defensive metrics because the thought now is that some shifts more hurt or help players unfairly in the defensive systems due to them being out of position. Keep shifts or get rid of them, I won't really be affected either way. I despise shifts but will defend a team's right to use them

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 02:04 AM) So the past few months, Ive become close friends to a girl at the club I work at. She started going out with our group when he would hang out and we have a lot in common. I started having feelings for but she's married with 2 kids. She's only 36, a year older than me. Awhile ago she started texting me about how her marriage was probably ending because they just didn't get along. We text a lot and have a lot in common. She recently moved out and got her own townhouse. We've gone out to lunch a few times but I respect her boundaries right now. I think she sensed that I was rather fond of her so we started talking about us. She said that she has feelings me but doesn't feel ready to date anyone right now. I told her that I assumed she wouldn't until her divorce was final and maybe longer than that. She then said that if we ever started dating than she would have to be honest with me about something and I may not like her when she tells me. Turns out one of the reasons she is getting divorced is because she cheated on her husband with my buddy I work with. I was taken back but she said the usual stuff how it was a mistake, blah blah, and how she hated my buddy because she wasn't the only married woman he had slept with from the club. He has a gf for the last few years, is sort of a player, but never thought he would go as far as to sleep with married women. He doesn't know I know and in the past I've talked about her to him. She told me to stop doing that, and for good reason. I'm trying to be understanding about that, it's not like she cheated on me, but it's just awkward. I think by the time she's ready to start dating, I'll probably be over it. I've been friends with guy from work for 9'years and have lost respect for him a bit, but still like hanging out with him. Sorry for the long story. Sleep with her once if you want, but that's it. You are asking for a rotten life if you take it any farther than that with her. She is trouble.

Ernie has died
Even though we are Sox fans, I'd like to say rest in peace to Ernie Banks. By all accounts a class act. Any memories? Chicago's Mt. Rushmore in Sports: Ernie, Payton, Jordan and Bobby Hull? With Big Hurt honorable mention and Sayers?

White Sox sign Jesse Crain
Another candidate for the pen. There are some bodies to choose from this year.
-
Sox sign Geo Soto
Wasn't Soto a big time prospect a few years ago? Like somebody said we usually sign pitchers like this. About time we signed a reclamation project at a position like catcher. If Soto is healthy, couldn't he beat out Flowers?

Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) 2B will be Sanchez or Johnson, barring some last minute change. I'd prefer Micah. If it's Sanchez, he better be a whiz defensively cause he ain't a hitter, right?
-
Avisail Garcia
I like Avi, but weren't their reports Detroit wasn't sold on him at all and more than willing to give him up? We'll see what happens. Isn't his upside the "good" Carlos Quinton and downside the bad Alex Rios?

Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) and that is the bullcrap that gets to me. wash has a viable 6 man rotation, bos is signing a pitcher i really like in eveland (sp) padres are looking to adding arms. the sox have a 1 yr rental in jeff s, many are expecting rodon to come in lights out and pitch. the 4/5 of the rotation has question marks. what happen an injury happens, what happen if hector doesn't perform like last yr. what happen if erik johnson or beck does not come thru. this is basically what happen last yr. i am not being overally negative, more like cautious. but this is what JR does, just spend enuf to entice, to get the fans hype, to bring in advance ticket sales. I was going to mention Danks as well cause I still like him. Your post makes me add him. So you got Sale, Q, Shark, Danks and maybe Rodon at some point? The Sox still could suck, but I don't think you can argue that the pieces are there. Even if Gillaspie sucks we have a realistic option to put in to replace him. p.s. Why am I forgetting second base? With Semien gone, who starts there? Funny that such a dime a dozen position we have no automatic starter yet.

Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) 2015 is going to be a great season.... do not get me wrong on this. i can't wait for the start of the season. but at the same time, lets not pull the wool over our eyes. There are more than enough good players on this team to where Robin 'should' get axed if we don't finish over .500 at least. I mean geez. You got Shark, Sale and Q (though somebody I trust told me today Q is overrated). You got Abreu, Melky, A. Garcia, Eaton, Alexei and LaRoche for gosh sakes. You got a catcher who is pretty good defensively. And you got a strong closer and enough candidates where you should be able to piece together a bullpen (cmon Coop, do it!). Sox don't NEED to make any more moves. Players need to perform.

This is definitely not the time to be disappointed at all. The Christmas analogy was great. People are being brats if they want more right now. Time for players to achieve

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 11:34 PM) I pride myself in trying them all, lol. Yeah, I'm not actually raw dogging that was just a joke. Well I was put she was on BC. I know about precum and everything. So her dad found out we were dating and told her she had to get on BC because her sister got knocked up by her now brother-in-law. She said she didn't want to get on it because it was going to make her all moody. So she got on it and I was excited but then she started getting nauseous all the time and became incredibly moody. In the five years of knowing her I never saw anything like it. It was making us fight for the first time and I just wanted to know if anyone had experienced anything similar. She's going to go to the doctor to get on a different type of BC. I hope the craziness levels. Interesting it makes her moody. I didn't know that was a side effect. That sucks.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
I'd trade Melky in a blockbuster and acquire some pieces for him.
-
Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?
Not disappointed because they made an attempt to improve the disastrous bullpen and added Shark to the rotation. Can't really ask for too much more in addition to the two good hitters they got. Signing everybody off the free agent list doesn't guarantee squat as the Red Sox and Yankees and Angels and Dodgers will tell you.

Phil Rogers argues for Buehrle to the Hall of Fame case building
You know what would be a good tradeoff: Dump Danks for Buehrle in our rotation. Mark's style of pitching rubs off on others and he always sets a good example. Danks arguably has better stuff, but I'd take the tradeoff. I realize Mark makes a ton of money now, though. I can't rip the Sox front office since they've added a lot of salary already since last season, but in theory ...

I'm not a big Obama fan, but I can understand why he wouldn't want to go to the service in France. I won't criticize him for that decision.

Can You Make Someone Fall in Love with you?
There is no doubt if you are rich it changes the playing field. There's no way in hell these guys 50 and over would be dating red hot 21-25 year olds if not for the cold, hard cash. Now do the young women find some things to like about the geezers besides the cash? Sure. But they'd never ever give the geezers a chance without the fat fat wallet/bank account/portfolio.
