  1. Don't get me wrong. I worship Abreu. He's one of the best hitters in baseball. My question, though, is ... is there a problem with him playing first base? Is he so bad defensively, that coupled with Gillaspie being average defensively at best; Micah average at best and Lexi excellent but known to bounce in a throw or two, that it is going to be a huge problem? Should the Sox turn Abreu into a full time DH because of defensive concerns?
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 04:25 AM) Surprised to see the defending 2014 AL Champs starting a petty fight with a 4th place team. Sure he hit you on purpose, Sox still haven't beat you yet. The Royals have been throwing at the Sox for years and acting as if the game is against a rival. I know getting "fired up" for teams isn't really common in the cool world of baseball (the season is a marathon, you know), but I think the Royals do perk up a bit when they play the Sox. They've owned the Sox for a bit now and it certainly seems like they get a kick out of having the upper hand. It's nice that Shark showed a little fire in throwing at the Royals. Now the Sox have to have his back because KC will want to sweep our ass after that incident.
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) Facial Hair is the reason. LOL The facial hair looks really stupid when you get beat down as the Sox did today. It's like they are neanderthal men trying to hit a baseball with a club. Oh well, got to take one of three. 0-3 after last year's 6-13 vs. KC would be pretty lousy. Say what you want, KC does expect to beat the Sox now every time they take the field. You could see it in Hosmer's cocky face before the game when he was joking around. Sox are gonna have to do something about that. 1-2 in this series would be OK.
  4. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) Don't you think "powerhouse" is a bit of a stretch? Probably. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) If they come home 0-3, Reinsdorf should have them shave and get haircuts before Friday's game. Clean it up, losers. That's a pretty good take.
  5. KC built this powerhouse with pitching and defense. Will somebody assure me Sox will be fine in those areas this year?
  6. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) Well, Alex Rios is still a stud. Doesn't he kill the White Sox? Sad for me cause all my Royals fans friends know I despise Rios. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) Haha, Drabek has no business being on an MLB roster. Why did he make the team? At least Jennings looked good vs a good lefty in Hosmer.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 11:29 PM) This defense very well might be worse than last year. Melky is nothing special in LF, and Johnson's going to be a huge downgrade. Yeah, I've been pessimistic when friends ask me about the Sox cause I don't see our defense as being any good and the pitching is a big question mark in terms of bullpen. PItching and defense is a true cliche. Hope it doesn't take too long to get the bats going.
  8. I see this as a 1-1 tradeoff as long as we win our home opener. This is a playoff type atmosphere.
  9. Just tuned in. Looks like we're getting whipped on pretty good. Not much of a game cept for Abreu. Hate to see relievers walk guys even on Opening Day.
  10. Aside from 8 and 9, isn't this a decent lineup? Cmon Robin, let's have a team that scores a lot of runs and is not totally disfunctional like the last 2 seasons pissing away so many games. Good luck, White Sox. It's a new season. Let's develop some guys who care about winning (Eaton and LaRoche and Shark and Robertson take control of this team, please) and win, win, win a lot of series this year instead of the obligatory 0-3 on the road or 1-2 or 0-4 or 1-3.
  11. What do you think of Kentucky's behavior after the loss? • Fans burn stuff in the streets of Lexington; 31 arrested. Some injured. (Why do fans throw bottles in the f***ing air after their team loses? Guess what? If a bottle hits somebody and the person dies, you go to jail for, oh, 50 years to life. Morons. • Andrew Harrison calls Kaminsky a racial slur and has to apologize. Then, that's it. Why no outrage? He should be suspended by the school. • Cauley-Stein walks off without shaking hands. (Ridiculous; stay and shake the hand of Kaminsky and Co. Glad to see Kentucky lose after all this. I'd have to think Duke is gonna win another national title. Will be tough for Wisconsin to beat Kentucky, then Duke in a 3 day span.

Somebody pointed out during the Ferguson riots that "white people" do their rioting after sports games. Once again, living up to the stereotype, about 20 Kentucky fans have been arrested so far for rioting after the UK loss to Wisconsin. People that set couches and their own shirts on fire in the streets after a sporting event really bother me. I was going to say they are scum, but I'll leave it that they bother me and I hope the judge throws the book at those who started fires and destroyed property after a f***ing basketball game. First loss of the year and they act like spoiled hooligans.
  13. I'm pretty sure Kansas has the same law as Indiana. Why no outrage here? I bet nobody has noticed since Brownback has implemented so much crap here
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 05:55 PM) i'm prepared for this team to be better than last season, if nothing else, simply for the changes in the bullpen to start the season. But I think people are selling KC short, and as much as I dislike that team I think it's going to own this division for the next couple of years. The bullpen is so critical. It has to do a complete turnaround from last year for the Sox to sniff .500. Other factors then have to combine for the Sox to finish 10 over.
  15. If the Sox win 2 of 3 against KC, I'll start believing. If the Sox win 1 of 3 against KC, I will try not to get mad. Somebody remind me I said this if we go 1-2. If the Sox get swept, it will be very annoying and the only reason I might not freak out is because the Royals did reach the World Series. Right now would I take 1-2 if it was offered to me as a certainty? Probably not. I'd want to play it out and see if the Sox can scratch out 2 of 3. That said ... will any of you absolutely freak out if Sox go 0-3?
  16. On paper, we don't want to play this opener. Shark vs. Superstar Kid.
  17. I've been thinking that the Sox have a bunch of bodies in the bullpen. They don't have the flamethrowers u need nowadays. Those 3 guys the Royals trot out there from the seventh on, all can throw 95 and all have nasty offspeed crap.
  18. Micah if he wins the job and opens 1-for-35 or some such horrible start. Seriously ... Flowers of course. Third would be the new guys (at least that's been my style in the past) if they pull a Dunn and start oh, so slowly.
  19. My phone has thunderstorm icons three days in a row, Mon through Wednesday. We could use some rainouts early counting days to Sale.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) I love this addition. Best addition of the offseason, in my opinion. Another good sign management wants to contend this season. Keep bringing in bodies in case it's like last year and guys are effective for 1-2 appearances then get lit up. Hope Coop is enthused and ready to manage some bodies.
  21. Speaking of opening day weather ... it made me think about how this board has seasonal analogies. Fathom hibernates all winter, not posting on this board and then he blooms in the spring, like the leaves on the trees, the ivy on the walls, etc. The arrival of Fathom is the arrival of spring and baseball.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) I'm not sure who will be more hated this year, LaRoche or Gillaspie. Both are going to be whipping boys, along with Danks. Is LaRoche destined to suck? Does he look like he's done this spring?
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) I was doing some fact checking on winning teams and found this interesting tidbit: at the end of the season and the playoffs and World Series only one team out of thirty ends up winning it all. Begs the question "in the end how do you judge success?" Well, I would say great success for this team would be to finish 10 over .500. Pure and simple. That would mean the Sox have taken care of their problem of getting owned by teams in their own division and it would mean they are damn competitive again. Let's face it. On paper, our defense is below average to lousy; our starting pitching is promising (Sale, Samargia, Q must be all-star caliber though) and our bullpen is average to lousy. Our hitting looks good to very good unless 2B and C are totally automatic outs. Defense and pitching win divisional games. We shall see if Sox defense and pitching is good. My prediction: We're going to be more disappointed than happy this season. HOPE I"M WRONG
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) According to Reifort he was hurt a lot of spring training. They were all pulling for him, it just wasn't there. Did Brian get any at bats? His legacy is he couldn't hit big league pitching.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) It's not though. That's the intended consequence in a limited, specific circumstance, but the point of the law is to provide protection to Christians that don't want to work gay weddings or in some way support gay weddings. As some people have already come out and said, they'll serve gay people, they won't serve at a gay function. There is a distinction there, whether you agree with it or not. I'm just happy the s*** has hit the fan because lawmakers can't write laws in simple English. Nobody can understand the fricking law. However, I'm also getting pissed off at the vocal left in this issue forcing a pizzeria to close its doors. People need to fricking chill out. The governor supposedly is dumbing down the law, putting it in simple English which should be a lesson to all lawmakers. I have no sympathy for politicos who write mumbo jumbo laws, but I also feel for the pizzeria owners. They shouldn't be harassed and denied a living over THEIR beliefs. Live and let live the Beatles once said. https://www.yahoo.com/tech/indiana-pizzeria...5307450604.html
