  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:37 AM) Maybe it's time I change my mind and start thinking this is a good idea. Get rid of Sale and the org won't be tempted to make all-in moves with an org unprepared for them. Yeah, if we can get 5-6 "Can't miss" big leaguers, maybe I would accept it, too. I heard Hawk tell somebody on the air recently that this current team will win a WS w/in the next 2-3 years, though. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:44 AM) As soon as I saw the temp I knew it was over. I didn't want to say it before the game and be that guy I believe you, truly do. I don't like to jinx the team, either.
  2. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:32 AM) One thing is for sure, f*** Robin. Hire a new manager. At some point these guys have to perform but I'm tired of having an inexperienced manager. Thing is, the only managers Sox could hire to make me happy are Leyland, LaRussa, Francona and Madden and none of those things can/will happen. I guess I'd be happy with Gardenhire, too. If we can't get him, then keep Robin as the team scapegoat.
  3. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:30 AM) It's a good question, would you take our last decade including '05 or the Tigers' last decade? I'd have to take it the way it worked out because of Chicago's sports history in baseball. Nobody had won a WS since the great depression so we had to get that out of the way for the city's sake. Undeniably there's been a lot of bad baseball, though, to go with the title.
  4. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) I remember hearing on a sports radio show. Would you rather see your team win a championship then suck for 15 years, or be good for 15 years and never win a championship? That's kind of been us lol. Won it all in '05 and had some good playoff teams but lately it's been full out suck. Sox are only down 3-0 at home. But it's like it's 7-0. Learn how to manufacture some base runners. Geez.
  5. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:24 AM) 6IP 3ER. Good enough to win but the offense has sucked...again. Thanx, Bigsoxhurt. Appreciate it.
  6. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) How long can we keep saying its early? That excuse is going to run out soon. 6+ games back in the first two weeks. That's f***ing sad. The one time I'm excited for the season were f***ing terrible. It's like Hawk said in a recent telecast, "We need a mulligan." Stoney: "A do over on the season?" Hawk: "Yes, sure." Stoney: "I don't think they'll let us do that."
  7. Boy, the Sox predictably are off to a s*** start, considering all the games in April are against the Central. What's wrong with the bats? Pretty anemic. I assume Danks pitched well? Just now tuning in and checking the box score.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) wow, wasn't expecting this. Have a feeling if Noesi has a bad start, Rodon will then be in the rotation. What I don't get is that there's absolutely no need for him in the bullpen right now, as lefty relief and Robertson is the only thing going well for the team. I agree. This is beyond weird. So I guess he comes in the sixth or seventh if we can get a starter besides Sale/Shark to go that long. So he'll pitch the sixth and seventh or seventh and eighth? But how's he gonna get enough work to stretch himself to be a starter? Unless Sox are making him the powerful 8th inning guy to get to the ninth, which is weird cause this team doesn't figure to be leading going into the 8th all that much. I don't see why he doesn't just start but maybe they plan to pitch him a lot.
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) Well Quintana sucked today. Not much you can do about that. Sometimes you just have these games. People love to blast me for living in the past, but Buehrle was a great example for guys like Quintana. Wish he was here to teach him how to pitch more efficiently and reach the next level.
  10. Lost five of six to Detroit and KC. Nice job so far stepping up. If only Sale could be cloned times four.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) If Drabek threw 97 like he did in HS, he may be someone you must keep around to see if you can make something out of him. But 27 year olds who throw 91 with little control have very small upside. I think there is an excellent chance he clears waivers and goes to Charlotte, but if not, I can't imagine Hahn losing any sleep over it. Meanwhile, he gets to pitch almost every day in the big leagues cause we're in so many blowouts.
  12. Ho hum. Lose another series. Give 'em a participation trophy. This team is stuck in non-excellence land.
  13. Hey, the bats got going. Nice. I deserve an assist for benching Melky on my fantasy team. Superstition helped him whack four hits. Isn't it amazing how 3-4 hits in one game this time of year skyrockets the batting averages? Glad to see LaRoche hitting it out of the park a lot already. Abreu too. 3 homers for each. Bats need to keep rolling. No reason our lineup shouldn't score a s***ton of runs and help make up for the lousy defense. At any rate, nice to beat the Tigers and notch another divisional win. I never take a win for granted.
  14. Is this Drabek guy worthy of being on the Sox roster? I'm not a fan.
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 04:40 AM) He got a straight up no tag from the guy whose job is to tell him whether or not to challenge. It's a damn good reason to not challenge, but ...
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 01:31 AM) The video guys told him he missed the tag. That is why. Why not challege a random play in the 3rd innimg if it leads to scoring? I don't understand when someome is told by people looking at the replay, actually getting paid for it, that the tag was missed, why even though you haven't seen the replay, you are an idiot for not blowing them off. I doubt anyone holds themselves to this standard. But just remember if anything ever goes wrong because you were given bad information, you are a stooge. It is all yoir fault, and unacceptable. Robin isn't a 'stooge.' He's not that bad. But his handling of the ninth was really bad. First of all, even though Hawk and Stoney kept ripping Lexi and saying you have to get your nose dirty and make a hard tag and everybody thought he missed the tag, hey it's the ninth inning and you are going to lose if the call is not overturned so you might as well challenge it regardless. Second, not walking one batter with a runner on third was really weird. It's like Robin had a dinner appointment and wanted the game to end. No way lefty Duke was going to get that righty hitter to strike out or pop up. Now against an equally bad team like the Twins, maybe that would work. Not against the perennial division champs. But I hate when it seems like the Sox are conceding and I felt the Sox were conceding by not challenging the play and not walking at least one batter, maybe two to have FORCE OUT possibilities or DP possibility. Weird.
  17. It's funny how times change. Dick Allen is the new Soxtalk defender of the manager. He's about the only one who truly loves Robin. Years ago, I was the whipping boy who defended Oz's every move.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) This was talked about ad naseum during his rehab process. They were trying to teach him the Maggs slide so he didn't hurt himself. Think of it this way. What hurts more, losing this one game, or losing Avi for 120 games last year? It isn't about being a (and seriously can we with the 21st century and stopping using female derogatory terms as insults?) "p****", it is about being smart enough to realize that 1 game Southsider is right. Hopefully the Maggs slide will work more in the future. He can't be diving balls out with his injury history.
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) So Robin didnt listen to Alexei when he said he had him 100 percent? Glad the manager has trust in his players....what a crock of s*** Yeah, this one is not playing out well. Lexi in retrospect tagged him right on the foot which isn't a bad way to tag a guy and not get yourself hurt. It was a simple tag and Lexi made it. The fact Robin a.) didn't challenge. b.) didn't trust Lexi. c.) didn't even walk the batter to give the team a shot at a fluke double play, makes this game one the team is gonna have to forget in a hurry. I mean what was Robin thinking having Duke pitch to the righty with a man on third and one out in a tie game in bottom of ninth? Somebody educate me on that one. ONLY HOPE is the K or popup with a lefty against a righty who plays for a first-place team and is not going to f*** up.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:17 PM) I just want to make sure I'm understanding this right, I can be watching the game in California on MLB.TV and clearly see Alexei placed the tag on the runner, yet the Sox video crew, paid employees in Detroit, don't have access to that angle? What is happening??? Lot of great posts in game threads lately. Damn, that's spot on.
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) You challenge because you have literally nothing to lose. That he didn't realize that is moronic. Agreed. I'm not disputing that. I agree a challenge was 100 percent the right call no matter what the video guy says. For my reason as well. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Greg talking about trading pitchers for prospects now...I think that's enough of baseball for today I was just agreeing with fathom this time. It's easy for me to mentally agree to dump a guy when a.) he's not signed for next year and b.) we just got him. Now if it was a Buehrle, I'd be kicking and screaming.
  22. Seems managers are putting a lot of heat on video crews in determining whether or not to challenge. In my mind, since the throw beat the runner by so much and umps used to call that an automatic out when the throw beat the runner, I'd challenge 100 percent of those type plays no matter what my video guy told me. I mean s***, the throw beat the runner by so much, u gotta challenge.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Guess I missed Samardzijas good innings. Boost that stock buddy! Normally I'd get mad at such a suggestion this early. But Shark is so new to the team I won't care if we dump him at the break for 3-4 prospects or 2 prospects mighty close to the bigs.
  24. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) This is the dumbest f***ing post, Avi will not dive for a ball bc his coaches and him have decided that it's not worth the risk of reinjuring himself. To top that off, Robin should have intentially walked 1 if not 2 batters there. Alexei needs to be taught how to tag people. Can Avi slide for the balls at least? I agree on the walk(s). It's obvious the game was over with a man on third and one out and no DP option set up. Hell, the Tigers are not the White Sox who would have stranded the guy. I'm surprised they didn't squeeze on the first pitch and win it. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) I stand corrected. Tito my apologies. He got him on the foot. Someone text that to rongey. Please send to Rongey quickly! QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) At that point matchups don't even matter. You have to put a guy on first so you can move your infield back to double play depth. Although, once the decision was made by Robin to pitch to him, Zach shouldn't be giving him such a hittable pitch on 0-2. As for the Alexei tag, it doesn't really matter if he got him or not. Robin has nothing to lose by challenging. I agree completely. I was just saying if he's not going to set up a DP then he has to at least go righty/righty to get the pop up or K.
