White Sox vs. Dodgers game #2
Looks like Tank has fallen under .270. Wasn't he hitting .330 not too long ago?

White Sox vs. Dodgers game #2
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 04:40 AM) "Back to back walks. That is not good." No s***, Hawk. Your announcing is not good. I can't believe that hack still has a job. It's been so long since we've had a decent announcer that I can't remember what a good one sounds like. "That's not good." Thanks, Ken, thanks. Why did that bother you so much? Have you heard other announcers not named Scully? They are horrific for the most part. Total homers for the team they work for. Hawk and Stoney were awesome telling it like it is last night when the Sox pissed away that game. Other crews don't go there. Hawk always points out s***ty play.

White Sox vs. Dodgers game #2
QUOTE (StillMissOzzie @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 04:34 AM) With the widely held theory that Hawk is JR's mouthpiece, does anyone else here think that the Hawk love for Beckham is preparing us all for the great news that Beckham will be re-signed? SMO Does Jerry care enough about day to day stuff that he'd demand the Sox lock up Beckham? As a baseball fan Jerry can't think Beckham is all that.

Oops the dreaded walks and no lefties left in the pen since we only got one.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 04:28 AM) Hawk being ridiculous again mentioning Avi Garcia in the same breath with Abreu and Puig. He better learn how to slide and dive for balls or he'll be hurt as much as Carlos Q.

White Sox vs. Dodgers game #2
I see Tyler homered again. It's still early but it looks like he's turned himself into a serviceable big leaguer. s***, he's probably got more homers than anybody on the Royals this season. I wonder if Tyler has assured himself at the worst being a backup for 10 years or more. Some good money to be made if he can hit like this. He's hitting .280 with a decent on base percentage and five homers. Less than 20 RBIs.

2013-2014 NHL thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) At worst, the puck was contacted level with the cross bar. Do you know a board we can go to where people who've liked the sport longer than 4 years and tune in beyond the playoffs go? I can't stand it in this thread any longer. I played pick up hockey for years in Mt. Greenwood at the park on 103rd and Central. I went to a ton of Hawks games. Magnuson, Mikita, Hull, Hull, Nesterenko, DeJardens, Esposito, Savard, etc., including Lloyd Pettit. Yes I lost interest many of the those years the Hawks stunk. But if you are referring to me and others as bandwagoners shame on you. I know hockey, just didn't give a s*** for many of the Wertz years when the Hawks got taken off TV, etc. I know hockey is a funny game, but I thought it was reasonably to be somewhat pissed the day after Game Seven in thinking the Hawks let a golden opportunity slip away (2-0 lead at home and not mustering a goal in OT to win it). I'm not mad at the Hawks cause it'd take a pretty big ingrate to be pissed at the team or organization for merely losing after so many Cup titles and parades.

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Then he still would have left because the Marlins offered a lot more than that. I just think it's kind of sad that all that money that's gone to Dunn could have gone to Mark. Arguably having a stud like him in the rotation would have kept the Sox in contention during this "rebuilding." All Dunn has provided is ... well, I won't go into that again.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 05:21 AM) Exactly, and it also look like he might have short-armed the throw cause he didn't want to hit Kershaw running in front of him. I don't get you guys. You field the ball and jog to the bag. Elementary. It was a huge gaffe.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:26 AM) No one wanted to see Buehrle leave until they saw that contract. Then people realized that is was a f***ing stupid contract, and wished him well. Yet as the one person pointed out, he's lived up to his contract. I know you didn't bring up other bad contracts, but I shall invoke the name of Adam Dunn here. If only Buehrle had been given THAT chunk of money instead of the big fella.

2013-2014 NHL thread
Anybody wake up today pissed off about the Hawks? I can hardly believe they lost Game Seven at home. Hawks looked like they were going to roll when it was 2-0. As great as the Kings are ... I feel like it was a pretty big choke to blow that 2-0 lead in Chicago. Opportunity lost when you have home ice in Game 7. Man. Tell me if I'm wrong. If you experts tell me the Kings are that much better of a team, then I'll shut up. Admittedly I'm no hockey expert but damn, home ice in Game Seven and a 2-0 lead to boot ...

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 05:52 AM) Sox lose 5-2...................This loss pissed me off more than any other this year because Sox gave LA 5 F'N runs. I feel so bad for Q. I would smack Beckham in the mouth after the game If I was Q. Normally I'd blame the first guy, only. But geezus, Gillaspie made the worst mental error I've ever seen in a game (except for the Dybber vs. the O's in the playoffs). I mean, my god. He could have stopped and tagged Kershaw or ran to the base. You HAVE to blame Gillaspie as well. Beckham was miserable, don't get me wrong, but Gillaspie??? Horrific as well.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 04:11 AM) If Beckham fields that DP ground ball the play with Gillaspie never happens. Beckham and Gillaspie need to go get good and drunk after this game, sleep in tomorrow, then try again tomorrow night. What a joke.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 03:57 AM) The funniest thing all night was when Hawk said that if someone on the Sox didn't play the game the right way, they might get benched for a while. If Hawk said that, and I trust you (I haven't been watching the whole game), then he's having an awful game, too. No way Robin would even say something to a player, much less bench him. It's against some unwritten baseball rule I'm sure to ask Gillaspie what the f*** he was thinking there.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 03:56 AM) Q should have been out of the inning, but he's going to have to find a way to pitch better the 3rd time through the order. very true, but I think tonight he should exempt from any criticism. Rarely do you see a big leaguer make as horrific a judgment as Gillaspie there. Hopefully he'll learn and never ever do that again. Though how many times in his life has he been in that exact same situation?

I don't know how Conor could be that f***ing stupid to not tag the base. If I was Robin I'd say something to him, rather than some f***ing unwritten rule where you can't call out a player. Ridiculous, Gillaspie! Get a clue out there at third base.

Poor Q. Even a 3-run homer here would not be his fault.

June 2 Game Thread Sox vs Dodgers
Inexcusable to not go step on third, Conor. WTF? He pretty much cost Q the game. What a joke. They teach you in Little League to think about what to do if the ball is hit to you. Conor with the braincramp there. Inexcusable. Poor Q.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Not to take anything away from Buehrle or Konerko, but there is another guy sitting in that Sox dugout that takes a lot of grief and was a better ballplayer than either one of them. Who, Harold? I don't understand how anybody can't be a HUGE Buehrle fan and not as upset as me that the Sox let him go. To me his greatness is a no brainer.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) They have to cut down the time. Have to. I don't know what best way is to speed up pitchers, but it needs to be done. Bmags, all the umps have to do is enforce the 12 second rule, and the rule where batters can't leave the box, but they won't do it. They should all be fired and start over with umps. They are the one organization that does whatever the f*** they want to do. It amazes me.

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) First of all, Buehrle seems like the kind of guy who will get as far away from baseball fields as possible upon retiring. Secondly, while "ace" is a subjective measure, I think you can at least say that he has not had the consistency you would like from an ace. In 13 full seasons, he has had: An ERA+ of 130+ 3 times An ERA+ of 115-129 6 times An ERA+ of 100-114 4 times An ERA+ below 100 1 time I don't think of a guy with 38% of his seasons with an ERA+ below 115 as an ace. We all remember 2001, 2005 and 2007 really well but seem to gloss over 2003, 2006 and 2010. Since Mark has been in the league, who have been defined as "aces?" Aside from the 5-6 huge money teams, Boston, NYY, etc., name the aces. How many have been as consistent as Mark? Also, if you made a list of players that actually have earned huge contracts, he'd be on a short list of guys who have earned all the money.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) Putting this here since a lot of discussion in this thread has been about pace of play: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/...action/related/ Good article. If the umps would enforce the fricking rules as well as call the correct strike zone, baseball would be watchable again. 12 seconds to deliver a pitch? Yeah, right. Good luck with that. Umps won't enforce it unfortunately.

Why isn't Buehrle an ace? In my mind he's better than an ace. He's f***ing unbelievable is what he is. Whoever let him walk and not pay him on the South Side should be ashamed. I can't believe some of the snide comments about Buehrle and Paulie, by far two of the greatest players in White Sox history. When Coop decides to retire, I hope Mark replaces him as pitching coach for the Sox.
