QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Could be, but I don't think so. Keppinger is having an outlier of a year. Gillaspie is actually good against RHP. The problem is, Would the manager only play Keppinger vs LHP and Gillaspie vs RHP? If Ventura did this and they upgraded in other spots, it would be fine. If he plays Keppinger 55-65 games vs RHP and Gillaspie in a number of games against LHP he would just be setting both players up to fail. Not a flame, but why do some people think Kepp is "having an outlier of a year" and can bounce back and they think Paulie can't? Paulie is hitting just under .250, it's not like he's hitting .140 or something. I know, age. I don't care if Paulie comes back or not at this point, but I don't see why some players get the benefit of the doubt. Paulie actually is hitting almost identically to Beckham, isn't he? About .250.
-
Good posts, A. Dog and Reddy. Something has to be done. My gawd. This is just bulls*** in our country. We have enough trouble with terrorists, who still haven't struck inside a packed sports venue yet.
-
Semien's still hitting 340ish. DeAza back up to .265 or so. Addison Reed with another save.
-
Why do U.S. citizens continue to pull this s*** and take out strangers? What possessed that guy to go onto a Naval facility and kill 12 people? He was standing and shooting from up top into a cafeteria or something with a shotgun? What are we going to do about random violence? It's bad enough terrorists want to kill us? But we are killing our own people in a lot of cases. Why didn't this guy just kill himself if he was so angry/troubled at the U.S.? So many innocent people are getting murdered in our country. And that's not to mention all the deaths of people in Chicago the past few years. WTF? I'm outraged and saddened ... again.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) I'll say again I'm not opposed to a major upgrade at 3b if we can find one that's available, but for the money, Gillaspie and Keppinger on paper shouldn't be a bad platoon at 3b. I think Kepp/Gillaspie would be one of the worst 3B combos in baseball, befitting our 60-win team.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) The thing is, there just aren't a lot of guys with a 5:1 K/BB that are ever highly successful. That's too little contact and too much bad pitch swinging. That's something that can and almost certainly will improve, especially from a young player, but something closer to Starling Marte's .282/.343/.443 is probably more likely with those peripherals, especially once he starts actually hitting for power. If he can be the defender and baserunner that Marte is, than a 4-5 WAR player is OK by me. I sure hope A. Garcia is willing to tinker and learn how to hit. If he's another guy who swings at everything, like you said, it doesn't bode well for his career. Guys should copy Paulie in his prime. He seemed so calm at the plate. He'd take some pitches, be a professional hitter. Even Dunn at least will draw some walks. Viciedo and A. Garcia need to take some pitches. Lexi's the same way, isn't he? He never learned to be patient, thus he's going to go down in Sox lore as an average hitter. This would be another reason to bring Big Hurt back in some instructional capacity.
-
I can't believe the Sox are 30 below .500 with all this young pitching that is better than average to good. Our pitching is a solid B to B-plus and yet we are 32 under .500 or something.
-
Lexi has so much talent. Hopefully this was just an off season. I'd be OK with keeping him in the infield while letting go Gillaspie, Becks and Paulie and of course making Phegs the backup to McCann or AJP or somebody.
-
If he's still under Sox control they'll trade him in a minor transaction before just releasing him, right? At this point, it will be a very very minor trade as Beckham is yet another failed hitting prospect.

Cmon Soxtalk, I'm doing a survey. Do you use Twitter and Facebook and please give me a few comments on what you think of each. Greg says re. Twitter: Hilarious to read all the second-guessing of coaches and quarterbacks on Twitter over the weekend. If you like negativity in your life, you embrace Twitter. My gosh. Greg says re Facebook: I have some family members scared to death of putting their "personal information" and pictures on there. They say they don't want people in their past knowing what they are doing. I say I LOVE letting people in my past know what I'm doing. Do you folks use Twitter and Facebook? Do you like them? I wish both would go away, but use both.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 01:37 AM) I know, pretty lame after sweeping 3 four-game series from the Sox. That's almost impossible to do. I am pretty sure a AAA team could win one or two out of 12. It's impossible to go 0-12 against a team. Isn't it?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:25 AM) Beckham now batting .202 since the ASB. It pains me to say this, but there's really no reason to bring him back next season. Arguably he's as bad a player as Chris Getz. Flame me all you want, but I'm pretty serious. Gordon Beckham is officially a bust. Unless his highlight film defensive plays take him out of the bust category.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 03:35 AM) It's ugly how many players we probably could make arguments not to come back or be the starter... 1) DeAza 2) Viciedo 3) Beckham 4) Ramirez 5) Flowers/Phegley or Phegley/Flowers (based on your perspective) 6) Gillaspie (unless platooning) and Keppinger That pretty much leaves Avisail Garcia, Dunn, Leury Garcia (utility) and Semien as the only "interesting" position players from any standpoint, although I'm still cautiously optimistic about Viciedo. With DeAza, he's getting more expensive and the defensive shortcomings and wear and tear sort of are weighing him down in my mind...he's gone from more of a leadoff guy to a bottom of the order hitter, IMO. Or the perfect 4th outfielder on a playoff caliber team. Maybe he's a starter for the Pirates or Reds, a couple of NL teams. Good post. I would agree with you. Most of our everyday players and subs aside from the new young guys we've added have presented the case that they are finished as White Sox. Given a choice, I'd rebuild the infield first before the outfield (I'm assuming they can't totally overhaul the roster). But for next year, new 3B, Lexi or new ss, definitely a new 2B and new 1B. So that could be four new infielders or three new ones minimum. Plus a new starting catcher. That's quite a bit of work for Hahn. Obviously Simien is the new 2B. I'd recommend dumping Viciedo No. 1 and DeAza No. 2 but if the Sox have to wait another offseason to rebuild the outfield, so be it. For now, new 3B, 2B, 1B and catcher, please!!!! Although I won't cuss if Paulie returns.
-
OMG we got swept again? Semien is hitting .346 though. If he keeps this up another 2 weeks, he's the ONE bright spot this season. Plus A. Garcia and a lot of pitchers.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) That's not that harsh. If you wanted to really go after Leury you could compare him to your post. I can be pretty slow, I guess. I don't understand your post. I thought garbage was a pretty bad way to describe a player. I wouldn't call Dunn garbage. I wouldn't go that far. It seems a little too rude.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 05:20 PM) It wasn't too long ago we had folks complaining about Ozzie. Yeah, but it wasn't me. I loved Ozzie. So I'm making up for lost time. Robin may be a good manager. If he is, his players have really let him down with all the mental mistakes and physical mistakes. That dropped fly by Viciedo the other day really made me give up.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) anybody putting dunn in the 2014 lineup must be under the assumption that he has a bodyguard. if not, his life is in serious danger. greg just might order a hit on him or take him out himself. Ugh. I already said I liked Dunn the person. Dunn the player is who angers me. I personally don't like jokes like this.
-
QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) leury = piece of garbage That's not called for. The guy is a likeable fast little player. I'm negative myself, but geez.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 07:30 AM) But the Royals are the best one, so it doesn't matter right? I'm sick of getting owned by teams in this division. Sox lineup has to be totally rebuilt. I can't imagine Hahn wanting to keep any of these guys except A. Garcia and maybe Lexi. Maybe keep Jordan Danks as a backup and of course Phegs and Semien.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 02:29 AM) Why would anybody boo today? The season was over 3 months ago, who cares? Cause they might have paid 80 bucks for a gawddarn ticket and tons more for beer? Booooooooo. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 02:55 AM) It's a joke that Ventura is being brought back next season. Amen, brother. He has done one of the worst jobs in baseball history this season. Teams in our division are NOT that good. They are AVERAGE. And we lose to all of them daily except one, the Royals. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 02:57 AM) If he has any self respect he will walk away. Please quit, Robin. You are not cut out for this job. Loved you as a player, but just quit. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 03:53 AM) That's fine but Sox better not expect fans to care and come to games either. It is a two way street. Best post of the month!
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 03:20 AM) Someone should be canned just on that BS alone! Don't we have equally horrendous figures against everybody else in our division 'cept the Royals?
-
Sox are losing 8-1? Hope the fans are booing them out of the stadium tonight. Wonder if Robin will pat the boys on the back and give them participation trophies after the game/season. He's done such a good job with this team.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) Only in Greg's world is Dunn's .754 OPS so bad that he should retire, but Konerko's .685 is so good he is deserving of a 3 year contract. At this point you have to be trolling right? The wall I punched a hole in regarding Dunn's at bat the other day in which he fouled off a meatball on the first pitch on the outside part of the plate, one he should have drilled to left to score the runner from second, proves I'm not trolling. Also, once again, incorrect. I never said Paulie should get a 3 year deal. WTF? I said I want him back. He's at the stage he gets no more than the one year Thome type deals when Thome was at the end. I also have said I can understand if the Sox don't want him back. But I think Mr. White Sox deserves a fair sendoff. Plus he might bounce back. The man has been excellent until this season. Why do some Sox fans discount the possibility of a Paulie comeback? You could reduce his bats and he'll still connect vs. lefties I'd bet you. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) Greg, since you like google things like "Hilary Clinton is a b****" and they sway your opinion, how about you google "Strikeouts are overrated".....There's A TON of articles so it must be true right? (Thats right, I peep the filibuster from time to time) My gosh you guys are so inaccurate. I googled Hillary Clinton is a b**** to try to find things that might support my supposition that she treats "commoners" poorly. I posted stats how badly Dunn has been in April and May and how he has 10 homers the last 2 1/2 months. But to each his own. If you like Dunn the hitter, fine. I only like Dunn the person; I despise Dunn the hitter.I stand by my statement that I am like the Pied Piper to newbies on here. They seem to have greg's positions on everything memorized. I can't utter anybody's positions on anything except Caufield used to like to talk about attendance (he hasn't since he returned from traveling the globe for a month) and fathom likes to point out technical things in people's swings and pitching deliveries.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) He's been bad the last few weeks, this is true, do I expect him to produce that little next year? not at all. I'm not gonna "pray" he's off the team because he's had a bad few weeks to end the season. Do I think he'll be the hitter he was from June-August? No probably not. Do I think he's still a valuable player even if he hits .210 with 30+ HRs 90+ HRs and Ks 200+ times? Absolutely. If Dunn didn't K so much he'd be a superstar, instead he's merely a good productive player. He leads the team in HRs, RBIs, OPS, and he's 2nd in runs. Oh well. You must not have read my stats I posted. I can't blame you for not listening; I often times don't listen in regards to my favorite players, but seriously, what do you see in Dunn that I don't? He angers me beyond belief if "angers" is the right word.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Rienzo vs Jimenez Dunn sits. Gillaspie DH. Semien 3B. A's beat the Rangers again. Yankees lost. Rick Hahn taking calls on WSW at 5pm. Somebody please call and ask Hahn about Adam Dunn in a respectful manner. "Q - Rick, Adam Dunn received a lot of positive publicity for his new approach in going the other way with pitches. I may be mistaken, but it appears as of late that's not the case and he's also hit just one home run all month and four the previous month. Has the approach of pulling everything returned and are you concerned about this? Also a general comment on Dunn's future with the Sox and I'll hang up and listen off the air."
