  1. Is DeAza one of the worst baserunners in Sox history?
  2. Nice pick by Paulie at first. Love watching him pick grounders and bad throws.
  3. What a country. Obama's big health care plan is a disaster. Obama can't get any support for anything, including this plan. He's been a big fat zero with the economy a total disaster. Yet if he was eligible to run for president in three years again, he'd win big again. I just don't get it anymore.
  4. Thank goodness. Some accountability finally. Please fire some more guys and get rid of some of our awful position players.
  5. Not that it matters, but it's good to see the Sox continue their losing formula they've had all year. Sox hold a 4-0 lead (a rare lead early in a game) ... Second and third one out. Semien foolishly does not try to score from second when third baseman Moustakas fires a throw past Hosmer. Semien and third base coach probably didn't want to risk it, figuring we had two more bats to score with second and third and one out. Well L. Garcia whiffs. Two out. And Beckham feebly grounds out again failing in an RBI situation; three outs. Sox fail to break the game open. Still a very good chance they'll blow the 4-0 lead. Bad baseball from Chicago all the way til the final out of the season. Hope next year when they have a chance to put a game away, they do it (of course we blew a six-run lead vs. Detroit in the ninth as well).
  6. Somebody just turned on a pitch beautifully. Was that Semien? I'm at work and the sound is down. Beautiful stroke!
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 12:09 AM) He hit a ball like 420 feet a few days ago...there's still some power there If the power is still there, then that makes me feel better he will return.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 12:06 AM) greg, PK got jammed on that pitch by a plus-plus fastball If you are right, my bad. I thought it was a cookie. From my view, I was waiting for it to skyrocket over the wall.
  9. I wonder if that last at bat is why Paulie MIGHT retire. That was a cookie pitch and he hit it on the meat part of the bat and it was still to just shallow to medium deep left field. Then Dunn gets the same pitch and strokes it over the fence. Poor Paulie has no pop anymore. Why??? That is the question. Is it age? Bad back? Lack of power suddenly is wild. One thing for sure. A guy as proud as Paulie has to watch tape of that last at bat of his and wonder, WTF? Am I that weak now, suddenly? Folks, it was a cookie and he barely got it out to medium left field. Wow.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 02:45 AM) Not a negative at all, just stating a fact. I have no issue at all. As we discussed earlier, Thome wanted a ring so bad, he was willing to be a full time pinch hitter full time anywhere. Paulie has his ring and just wants to be comfortable, good for him. Good post.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 01:27 AM) I hate this season. This f***ing team has done nothing but make my day worse all summer. I can't even relax and drink a beer and watch our f***ing ace throw a half decent game. Thank god these bums are almost done. Horrible year. I can't wait for baseball season to end. Hopefully I won't be thinking that in May again next season. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 02:15 AM) Konerko had a line today about 20 guys in the clubhouse right now that don't want to play anymore. I hope Robin sees the quote. That is a direct slap in his face. Some of you say he's "tough" behind closed doors. Where did you hear that??
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 12:16 AM) I'm fine with Ventura getting one more shot. We took him off the street and made him a major league manager. A learning curve should have always been expected. I'd like to see some serious growth in year 3 or else consider other options prior to 2015. Now, I'd like to see Manto get canned and quite frankly I expect it to happen. I'm sure plenty of people will claim hitting coaches don't matter and to that I will say that firing him has no downside then. Clearly the offense was an epic disaster on all levels and whatever Manto was doing probably wasn't helping, so bring some fresh blood in and hope they can connect with a hitter or two. Fair post. I would definitely fire Manto for the reasons you gave. And like somebody else said, let Robin break the tie next year. One good year (albeit a collapse at the end) and one embarrassing, pathetic season. Year Three breaks the tie like the one poster said.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) So winning another ring is not a priority to him. Are you saying that as a negative toward Paulie? He mentioned family a few times. Unless I'm mistaken he said his kids love Chicago and he won't be moving. The interview was very low key and he talked in a conversational tone. He was very honest saying he's talked to a lot of players about it and said something like there's 40 reasons to retire; 40 reasons to return. Anybody dissing Paulie ought to listen to the interview. He was humble. He said he's always been a player who deserved playing time. He said that might not be the case next season and that is a thing that would bother him. He said a lot of things. It sounds to me like he would like to keep going but he doesn't want to go to another city to play and he doesn't want to be a burden/lousy hitter as a White Sox. My guess is if he retires it's because the Sox tell him they don't think he's got the talent to be a productive hitter anymore. My guess the deciding factor would be the tone of his conversation with Hahn. And of course money. Isn't he a free agent? He might not want to prove himself for minimum (baseball) wage. Hahn seems like a good guy and judge of talent. I believe whatever he says to Paulie will ultimately force Paulie's hand either way.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Nothing at all Do you understand news? It is news that he's going to need some time to decide his White Sox future. Don't you want to know the update?
  15. One thing is obvious listening to this ... PAUL KONERKO IS A GREAT GREAT MAN!
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 09:52 PM) He said if he comes back, it will be his last year. Actually he did say 'probably' ... listen to it again.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) This is terrible treatment by the Sox. Call a press conference a day in advance, so the media can broadcast it live... to tell them the exact same thing they've been saying for months? Either we are all being faked out here, or the Sox completely bungled this. They didn't bungle it. Fathom is right. He's doing a normal press session. Blame the media for televising it. He doesn't want to do 40 one on one interviews. This happens a lot on BIG STORIES and Paulie giving the end of season update on his status is a pretty big story. Blame the media for putting it on the radio; Paulie and the Sox didn't ask for that.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) I think quite the opposite. What more is Konerko going to accomplish? At the rate he's on, he's going to have to play a minimum of 5 more years to get to 500 homers. He's not going to win any individual awards. He's got a World Series ring. Thome stuck around as long as he did to try and get a ring. He never was able to. But he got plenty of accolades - a silver slugger, 600+ homers - and decided that it was time to go (and also, no teams would sign him because he wanted to play this year too). In other words, Thome played til they ripped the jersey off his back. they told him he couldn't play any more, ala Fisk. Some players are like that. Is Paulie? We shall see. I think he might be. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) Why is comcast showing this one then? Cause it's the end of the season and he's PAUL KONERKO. Everybody wants an update.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Jim Thome played for 6 different franchises in his last 4 years. I doubt those were really "his terms". As I recall, there was a reason for his going to every one of those teams except Baltimore, really. He chose Minnie on his own and did well. Dodgers wanted him as a pinch hitter deluxe. He didn't mind going back to Cleveland for a love fest of sorts. Philly actually wanted him as well. I think Baltimore was the only weird stop, his final stop. Call me crazy, but I think Paulie will choose the Thome route rather than the George Brett route. Brett up and quit cause he wasn't putting up Brett-like numbers. I hope he makes the right decision. I'd say he's by far my favorite Sox player ever and that's saying a lot, considering I'm overlooking how slow he is on the bathpaths. Consummate professional, good slugger, amazing digger of throws in the dirt, and a smart player. Adds up to my favorite Sox ever.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) I think it's his time to retire. Announce it now, and be able to get the proper ovation from the fans But nobody is giving reasons why, though whitesox said if his body can't handle it. I would agree with that. I've listed a lot of reasons why he should stay. I'm not saying you feel this way, but IMO too many people refuse to accept the possibility Paulie could have a solid to very good comeback season. Or if he's healthy he might want to go on and on. How long did Thome wind up playing?? Forever. By the end he was just a pinch hitter. Did it ruin his legacy? Not really. Guys like Thome and Konerko go out on their own terms.
  21. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) Swing for the fences this weekend, next HR hit, walk off and be done. Hopefully last night wasn't the last one. That would be wild and fitting, to end it this season on a home run, and enter his offseason of decision making knowing he hit a homer in what might be his final at bat. Does anybody else have as strong a vibe as me that Paulie is not ready to quit and really not wanting to quit? My vibe on Paulie (without ever meeting him) is he loves the game of baseball, but is also a very smart person and knows he'll be going out on a very sour note if his power numbers remain the same next year and hit BA dips to Dunn-like levels. Paulie hitting .205 or .210 or .195 with 8 home runs and 40 RBIs in 450 at bats would be a bad way to end a career. Paulie with this year's numbers would not be good, but not utterly embarrassing. But a healthy Paulie going .280 with 17-25 homers and 80-90 RBIs ... what a way to go out!!! Do all of you agree with me he does not look or act like a guy who is ready to quit? His demeanor playing first, etc?
  22. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) Sad to see him go even though he definitely should. Very sad, but I don't think he's going anywhere. Even if somehow the Sox pull off a miraculous recovery and compete next year with Abreu, look at it this way, Paulie, Abreu and Dunn can platoon between DH and 1B. If Paulie is healthy and rocking, he can play first and Dunn/Abreu can platoon at DH. If Paulie stinks, he can platoon just with Dunn and let Abreu play every single day. We owe Dunn nothing in his final year of his deal. We owe Paulie the right to end on his own terms. I personally think the guy knows he can still play the game of baseball. Whether the Sox let him do it in Chicago or he goes somewhere else, we shall see. He's not gonna retire (unless his injuries are Urlacher-like where he just can't compete well).
  23. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 06:21 PM) If it were nothing, then why even call it? What gain is there? Why not wait until the season is over in a few days? Something's definitely up. He's either announcing this is his last year with the Sox, or he's flat out retiring. You call it because everybody wants to talk to him this weekend about his future plans and he might as well do it on one day for all the media so a.) nobody gets any scoop and b.) he gets it over with and doesn't have to repeat himself 15 times. Everybody wants things cut and dried. Paul Konerko is hitting .250ish. He has never told the media about his physical problems, he's never made excuses. He deserves a chance to assess his body, which is what I believe it comes down to. If he's going to remain banged up and only capable of .245, .250 and 8-10 homers he'll probably reluctantly quit. My vibe as a total Paulie lover is he wants to keep going. I know that disappoints some of you who want him to go out somewhat on top, but if he's healthy, he's coming back. That's my take and I'm sticking with it.
  24. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 04:34 AM) this team is dead Just heard this is the Sox worst season since 1970. How come the reporters haven't talked to Jerry? Is he refusing to comment on his pathetic team and Robin? The owner should speak about this historically bad season. Worst team in over 40 years? Pathetic, Jerry. Raise those ticket prices some more.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) ahhh...thats a great one. What a beaut. He called me an idiot. This proves I'm not. So what's the problem? Idiot is a pretty strong word so I figured I'd defend myself.
