  1. The Cards giving Pujols a roster spot at this point is pretty sentimental. And probably not so productive.
  2. I guess this means AV back to regular RF play when he returns.
  3. The problem with seeing the world through Sox-colored glasses is that the Sox color is black (mostly.) pcq seems to have a good handle on this.
  4. What;s the opposite of a Cassandra?
  5. So if AV does come back after a two-three week layoff (crossing fingers), does he go back into RF? Or even a two-three month layoff for that matter.
  6. Between Keuchel and Kimbrel - the Sox have a $34M pie smacking them in the face every morning they walk into the kitchen. I can only shake my head wondering at how many alternate ways there could be to slice and parse that pie. Sigh. With this pie in mid air, they almost have to go the Leury route.
  7. I'm pretty much onboard with well, what the board thinks of the Kimbrel move. We didn't need another closer last year, we needed a 6th-7th-8th inning type of reliever. Picking up his option and painting the team into a corner was boneheaded and the boneheadedness has compounded into a slow market on him. From an outsiders POV, I have my doubts the Sox get anything approaching the value of his contract (+ the loss of prospects) in the near term. I get the fact that Kimbrel was the hottest pitcher in the NL at the time of last year's trade, but considering his overall tenure with the Cubs, was he really more than a flavor of the month? Hindsight is almost always 20-20, but even at the time there were real reservations regarding his value and the fit into what the Sox were doing. Both the Kimbrel and Cesar trades have had unforeseen negative effects over time. Mostly unforeseen that is. As for moving him - face has been lost, it's time to live with it and get him gone..
  8. KW was still very active in Sox trades at the time of those moves. JH was still in at least a partial understudy role at that time. I agree on the Manaea thing , but there is still the rental angle on that. Are the Sox ready to give up significant equity to get a rental?
  9. These trades are entirely a matter of Beane vs KW. Beane ate KW's lunch on a regular basis and then took away his milk money. Not dealing with the A's now and in the future based on a track record like that would be ridiculous. Entirely different dynamic at work here. Just watch out for 'in your ear'.
  10. I think it's another case of the Sox rushing pitchers into the majors. Likely a case of not trusting their developmental process in the minors. In an organization that emphasizes development, Crochet would probably be a rookie this year working long relief with spot starts on the near-term horizon.
  11. And then the A's could turn him around for 2-3 top 100 prospects. Win all around.
  12. If I'm the Phillies or Dawjahs, I want to see him pitch at least a little.
  13. I'm only surprised they didn't bring Dave Stewart into the chain of command with TLR.
  14. He would be a good get, but not for Vaughn. I don't keep up with the D-Backs, but never saw much to indicate they were shopping him for much short of a boatload of prospects.
  15. On Leury - Ya think? Maybe so, if TLR keeps the halo on him. I'd say Stone was saying that the signing of Conforto was a pipedream.
  16. Which takes PA's away from Vaughn/Sheets. That darn Vaughn. lol
  17. Angels. I missed Joc's signing with the Giants. Not exactly headline news.
  18. Maybe better posted in the Spring Training thread. This thread is pretty much locked into rants about the off-season moves, or lack thereof at the MLB level. Rants not especially over the top - but still rants.
  19. RE: Vaughn, the Sox have the advantage of playing in the rebuilding ALCD (Correa will provide some wins but Twins still a work in progress), combined with a lack of a proven RF/LF leaves the opening(s) for AV. If either of those two conditions didn't exist, there would be real benefit in sending Vaughn to Charlotte to hit as many righties as possible and get as many innings in LF/RF as he could stand for 2-3 months. Seeing that those two conditions do exist - yeah AV going OJT in the bigs is probably the best choice. At least some of this is psychological. Vaughn appears to have the maturity and character to handle it, but it's still not a sure thing.
  20. I like Burger a lot - on a different team, playing his natural position and bringing an equal talent to the Sox at another position.
