  1. "I’ll take nine singles and a blast. Three hard hit balls all day. First pitch swings, ground balls, I mean, really all I wanted." Keuchel This is a bizarre thing to say. His 'day' consisted of getting through one inning on 48 pitches with 'only' three hard hits. Yes the errors were his bane today but it's not as if he had anything like an acceptable outing.
  2. This lineup and today's team-play reminds me of the tanking years. Where is the rebuild?
  3. After going into a fair amount of research and consulting with others, James was ambivalent on the topic. i.e. New Age lineups matter, until they don't - which is often. He did make a case for batting your best hitter in the #2 slot, but even then the numbers favoring that positioning are small .
  4. I could /would say something about Lance here --- but I won't.
  5. Just about all teams are leaning heavily on RP thus far. Not many starters are going past 5 innings. At least VV got 4+ innings.

  7. Geeze Pollack at 80-85%, Moncada at ??% and Kelly not even at a 'percent'. I'm not pining for Ye Olden Days when guys would hit the field with broken limbs, but I dunno - the sheer volume of IL required injuries at any one time in 21st Century MLB is just bizarre. But I did turn 69 a few days ago...
  8. Moncada might be out for awhile. Burger looks workable into May and possibly til the deadline. Burger + somebody might bring a decent #4=#5 starter, but pitching will be at a premium then. An interesting case would be for Burger to really shine in a month+ long stretch and some team taking an interest in Moncada - contract and all. The FO not likely to seriously consider anything short of a *very* good offer, but seeing that much of what we (as fans), are thinking about Burger is spitballing, it's worth a minute of consideration over morning coffee.
  9. One run wins, either at home or on the road, mean something.
  10. I still like radio broadcasts. Obviously, the announcers make all the difference. I have to say - the Cardinals radio network has been really solid for as long as I can remember.
  11. I'm not screwing around with this, just not interested enough to jump through the hoops. The way I'm reading this: You have to get an Apple ID and then provide payment info even if the stream is free, ostensibly for future Apple streams. IOW a modified bait-and-switch. Is that about the way this is working?
  12. Grandal is a good catcher. Great framer and all, but there is no reason to play him as if he's Yogi, Pudge or Yadi. Catch him 80-90 games a season and get 650 PA's from him. IMO in his case, the best of both worlds.
  13. 1965 Sox - Lopez' last full regular season. Horlen didn't get the wins he should have considering his numbers. 39 BB/219 innings (BB9 -1.6). 2.90 FIP. Check out Fisher and Wilhelm's numbers. Fisher (listed as closer), led the team in wins! Both of them went over 140 innings. Not a bad hitting team either, 6 of 8 position starters with OPS+ over 104 (an off year for Ward.) https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/1965.shtml
  14. I wailed and gnashed my teeth all off-season about getting a #2 catcher to little avail until we got McGuire (that's his name right?) If he can he a batter, he looks like the real deal.
  15. Getting a #4-5 starter should have been a priority in the off-season. But the FO didn't seem to see it that way. Sigh If I didn't know better, all the guys out of action would lead me to believe that some players just don't take to playing in Chicago in April. That is - if I didn't know better. I wonder how Correa is taking to playing in Minnesota in early Spring? As for working to stay healthy - doesn't Chicago have some Pilates or Sportstretch training teams in the Metro area? I'm only half-joking with this.
  16. I would think Cespedes + somebody would be of some interest to the A's. The Cuban Connection is strong with the Sox but I doubt that trading Cespedes would be a morale sinking move for Pito, Robert et al. Of course the A's would likely want Colas instead and that's a non-starter at this point. As for Vaughn in a trade for pretty much anyone ---pfftt. Make Katz do his work, even if it is making silk purses out of sow's ears.
  17. I didn't know he had that many. Now as for Harrison, some of the venom on this board is completely irrational. And has been since the day we signed him.
  18. Same here. That's the third time I've heard 'Nationside is on your side' slipped into the stream.
  19. If a runner is called out on interference etc., thus ending an inning, on the play that a HR is hit, does the HR count? Two homers not counting in a game would be highly unlikely. Do the homers count or not? If they don't count - they are not HR.
  20. On McClure - how can he give up 0 ER and yet have surrendered 2 HR?
