  1. Who are you even talking about, I am totally lost here.
  2. Why would they concede the division to us now that we have Garcia? We had Colon last year and they still took us down... We need to take 2 out of 3 in this series and it starts tonight with Buehrle getting back on track.
  3. Any deal involving Borchard with an albatross contract like Kendall's would be completely stupid.
  4. You are obviously not listening to the points expressed in this thread, so I'll stop trying to convince you of anything. All you really need to know is that a stud pitcher is more important NOW than Olivo's potential down the line. A catcher doesn't need to do much besides hit .250 and call a good game with good D. We have guys capable of doing that.
  5. And that won a ton of games for us... When you look at the keys to the season, Miguel Olivo's OPS versus left handed pitching is not a glaring key. Get me a guy who can call a good game, lay down the bunt when needed and play good defense with an occasional clutch hit and we are fine. As I've said, if we don't keep Garcia beyond the season, we got burned on this deal. But look at it this way, would you rather have Jon Rauch throwing to Miguel Olivo for the rest of the year or Freddy Garcia throwing to Burke/Alomar/Davis? Pitching wins. We needed pitching, our starters ERA was like 24th in MLB and we are the best offensive team in baseball. Miguel's OPS versus LHP is nice, but a front line starter is more important.
  6. Very good points from the Twins fan. And he is exactly right, this trade working out for the Sox has a lot to do with the shaping of this division over the next few years. We make a nice run in the playoffs, open the checkbook and we have a great shot of controlling the division. If we falter and do nothing, we are going to be going into rebuilding mode.
  7. Okay, so explain to me what Olivo was doing that Davis or Burke won't have a chance to step in and do? He wasn't setting the world on fire and you will be hard pressed to find anyone that says, damn, we're contending because of Miguel Olivo. The guy has potential to be great, but he wasn't going to make or break our season.

    Maggs

Well, there have been so many different reports out there it's beginning to get repetitive discussing what Maggs wants. And quite frankly, I am tired of worrying about it. We can analyze it all we want and it won't make a bit of difference. If he leaves, he leaves. And if he stays, he stays. Just enjoy the rest of the season and worry about this stuff after the year is over.
  9. Why exactly do we need to go out and get a catcher? Our offense is good enough to compensate for a catcher who hits just .250. After all, Olivo was hitting .270 and only playing roughly 2 to 3 times per week. We will surely miss him on defense, but Alomar is a veteran with postseason experience and Burke and/or Davis are ample backups. I like Olivo for his potential, but right now he really had little to do with our success this season up to this point.
  10. Uribe doesn't have to play and neither does Harris, they can split time at 2B. We need Jose's left handed bat in the lineup.
  11. So explain to me, if you can, how this is any different than having Bart last year?
  12. No to Kendall on all counts. We will be fine finishing the year with the Alomar/Burke/Davis platoon.
  13. We fleeced NY and Expos on the Bart deal...Osuna, Liefer and Biddle... Now we've dealt Big MO, Reed and Morse...Hmmm.
  14. There is no justification for dealing Olivo, so no, I won't quit complaining about the trade. We had Colon last season, what's the difference between having him last year and now Garcia this year? Someone please explain. And we didn't have to give up two young studs for Colon either.
  15. IMO trading Valentin now would be a bad move, he's been clutch since he's arrived on the scene and although everyone has ripped him for his glove, it's been solid last season and this season and he's going to hit 30 bombs this year if we keep him all season. Don't trade Val for Ortiz.
  16. I am not happy at all actually. After I've had time to think of it, how is it any different than having a guy like Colon last year? I don't think Garcia is that much better than Bartolo, if even better at all. And we had to give up our best prospect and young stud catcher to make it happen. If Garcia doesn't resign, this deal is the final straw for KW in my eyes. He'll have a lot of explaining to do on a cold weekend in early February if we are left without Garcia after the season. And I will be one of the main participants in the questioning.

    holy cow

All hype? I believe he won a WS series in 96 becoming the youngest player ever to homer in a WS game. Rowand has no rings. And he's won the gold glove every season since what, 1999? Rowand has no gold gloves, unless you count little league. And he's got better power numbers over his career than Ordonez. He might not hustle all the time, that's because he doesn't have to in the field. He's just that good out there. I am not saying I advocate this deal because I don't like the contract, but Andruw Jones is not all hype, he's won a World Series and several gold gloves and he's an all-star caliber player entering his prime.
  18. Yes he didn't post for 2 hours...

If he can hit .275 and put those power numbers up, he's worth it because he is a game saver in CF.

If they're going to fork up part of the money for Jones's contract and we know we can't afford Maggs after the season, I would look into this deal. I like A Jones, he is the best CF in baseball and he is capable of putting up 35 HR a year, especially in our park.
  21. Met him when he was here in Louisville in OVW and he's a very nice guy. Best of luck.
  22. Don't get carried away, check our Ortiz's postseason stats from 2002. He was the Giants best pitcher and helped them reach the WS. Ortiz is far from a piece of s***... He owns a career era under 4 and has 95 wins. I believe that would be more career wins than anyone on our staff.
  23. Being traded is part of the game. I am sure Olivo will take it like the man he is and go to Seattle, put that smile we saw so often on his face for the great Seattle baseball fans and perform. I really hate losing him, I think he's one of the top 5 catchers in the AL right now, but in order to acquire a front line starter, you've got to give. Great post CW
