  1. I feel pretty good saying this was indeed the worst team ever to win the whole thing... I've only been watching since about 1990, but I can't remember anyone as bad in my short time. There certainly can't be many 83 win teams go that far, if any, since the Wild Card just began in the Mid 90's. Detroit handed these guys a ring with piss poor defense. Just plain pathetic to watch two teams (the winning team was an average team at best) play that bad on the biggest stage. What makes it even worse is how bad the Sox swatted these guys around back in June. 20-6 13-5 and then 1-0.
  2. 1. I'm sure Buehrle nor his wife said anything about not wanting the Sox to pick up his contract option. That hurts the credibility of this right off the bat. 2. Regardless, the Sox are picking up his option. 3. I think Buehrle wants to be on the Sox, but it does bother me after a while that he openly roots for St. Louis. 4. There's no way he's had discussions with St. Louis since the season ended. They've been busy playing and I'm sure neither Buehrle or the Cardinals would even risk talking. Buehrle would lose all credibility with Sox brass and the Cardinals could be fined or have action taken against them by MLB if they were to tamper. If it looks like s*** and smells like s***, it's s***. That's what I think overall about this "blog".
  3. Uribe had 13 walks all of last season. That's just plain disgusting. Get rid of him please, KW.
  4. Rose is one and done. He's the best pure PG to come out of HS in a long time. If he came out this season, he'd be a top 5 pick, maybe top 2 or 3. Barring an injury or unforseen problem, he'll be playing college for one season.
  5. Beane had to fire Macha just to save his gigantic ego. That's all the move was. There's no way Macha was at fault for the A's losing, they just got beat. Beane had to find someone to blame.
  6. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Doing it a year in advance because you know'll he'll be gone after one year? Actually that's EJ's message to Rose.... And that's one more year than he'll be playing at Illinois, unless I'm missing something. Go back to recruiting 2 and 3 star recruits, Bruce.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) I like it. Like your avatar better, however. Who is it, by the way? Ashlee Simpson, post nose-job.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Interesting. IU also received a verbal from a 2008 guard yesterday. Bud Mackey (SG); 6'4, 180 lbs; Georgetown (KY) Scott County: Rivals Profile (3 stars) Scout Profile (4 stars) He'll be a top 50 player after next summer. I believe he just grew a couple of inches and didn't really play at many national events this past summer. Compares favorably with another kid from KY, Scotty Hopson, who is the No. 10 player in the class of 2008 according to Rivals, also being recruited by IU. There's some speculation that Mackey and Hopson may want to play together in college. IU was in on Mackey very early and was able to get him to commit early despite offers from UK, Xavier and heavy interest from South Carolina, Louisville and Florida. Great pickup by Sampson.
  9. EJ ending up where he belongs is just how it needs to be. Had KS been with us to begin with, he would have never even committed to Illinois. This is so BIG.
  10. I still think Aramis is right up there with Crede, at least offensively.
  11. Riske is just about done. When he was a stud with Cleveland, he was throwing in the mid 90's. Now he's lucky to top 90 and his slider just isn't that good anymore. ERA nearing 4, WHIP 1.30. Strikeouts are way down from where they used to be. No thanks on retaining him.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) I wouldn't be totally surprised if Tracey wound up in the big leagues also, if he has a good spring training. If he's in our pen, you'll know right off the bat that the pen is weak. Tracey can't throw strikes and his delivery is horrible. Plus we already know he's not high on Ozzie's list. I'd say the chances he's in the big leagues next year are about, well, ZERO.
  13. Justin Morneau ran his mouth about how the Twins were gonna keep the Sox out of the playoffs, yada, yada, yada. What did Minnesota do when they got there? Nothing. Have fun in 4th place next year Minny. This is hilarious.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Boz.. just curious why you brought up a Rowand comparison. Because I think a lot of people believe that Rowand was a lot better than BA, which to me just isn't the case. I love A Row and all, but I think BA has the potential to be a much better player.
  15. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) sorry. I'm not on the Surfer Dude bandwagon in CF. don't see him having any plus offensive tools. Modest power, not a base stealer. he's a solid fielder, but he didn't blow me away with his range or arm. If we can trade him for a SS or a starter, I'm all for it. BA just doesn't play with enough urgency for me -- and Ozzie certainly doesn't seem to love the guy either. Already a top 5 defensive centerfielder in all of baseball. Is he better than Rowand in CF? Yes. Rowand made what are routine plays for BA look difficult because he got poor jumps at times. BA pretty much can get to as many balls as anyone. His arm is above average as well. As far as his offense goes, it was his first full season in the major leagues. If we threw away everyone after their first full year (Crede, Rowand are guys who everyone wanted to get rid of), we'd miss out on a lot of players. Besides, look at BA's 2nd half splits in 2006 and compare them to Rowand's in 2005. BA 2006 .257 .301 .393 Rowand 2005 .264 .326 .431 Not much difference there if you ask me. And this was BA's first season and that was what, the 3rd or 4th year for Rowand? Maybe if our manager quit riding BA in the press and actually played him everyday instead of a joke like Mackowiak in CF, he'd get rolling.
  16. No way would I pay Crede 5 years and 50 million. We'd be better off just riding out next year with arbitration, go to arbitration the following year (2008) and trade him before that season. Hopefully Fields would be ready for sure after next season.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Why are you so confident he would be pitching well here? 2006 Away: 6-,6 5.95 ERA, 1.40 WHIP Career away: 9-11 6.46 ERA, 1.53 WHIP Why are you so confident he couldn't turn it around? Just wondering. I'd never be against acquiring a good young arm like Ervin. I think there's a reason that Anaheim wouldn't give him up for Carl Crawford.
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Santana sucks donkey balls away from LAAAAAAAAA. I'm sure he'd be fine pitching on the Southside. I'd surely take him.
  19. As much as I like Crede, I also realize a couple of things about his situation. 1. We have a MLB ready 3B in the wings in Josh Fields. 2. He has an agent who could POSSIBLY get in the way of a long term deal being reached. Up to this point, we've been forced to go year by year with Crede. I don't really see a scenario where he wouldn't test the FA waters, possibly burning the Sox by taking huge money elsewhere. 3. The uncertainty of his back injuries. Will this continue to be a problem for as long as he plays if he chooses not to have the surgery? 4. His value may never be higher. This is by far the best season he's had and there's no guarantee he can do it again. He may continue to get better or he may go back to a .250 or .260 average. No one really knows. So pretty much I like the leverage we have in this situation. If we can make a deal that makes sense as far as now and for in the future, we'll make it. Williams realizes this. Right now he is posturing for Crede to have the surgery. If he chooses not to, don't be surprised if the Sox shop around and see if a deal is out there.
  20. What teams would be interested in Crede? I think the Angels could possibly be one and if they were willing to talk a deal that involved Figgins and Kendrick, I'd be all ears. KW would probably also ask about Ervin Santana.
  21. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) I was thinking about that as well. There might be some strong hints in the lineups this last week. Such as yesterday when Owens was in CF, hitting #2, Iguchi down in the lineup. Not that Owens is the answer. But that there are/ might be questions in CF. Or having Haeger in relief. I think you can expect to see most of the regulars this weekend as the Sox want to prevent Minnesota from winning the division so they have to play the Yankees. And we all know the Yankees have owned the Twins for a while now. I also wouldn't mind seeing the Sox bean Morneau this weekend. I think we all remember his comments from a month or so ago. I'm sure the Sox do as well. I'd like nothing better than to see Minnesota get in a tussle with the Sox this weekend costing them not only the division but maybe a game or two by certain players in the playoffs.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Remember if you trade Mark Buehrle, next season you will most likely have 5 RHP's in your rotation, and that can't be good when you have the likes of Justin Morneau and Travis Hafner in your division. And Joe Mauer.
