Switching Fields
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) Another thing I don't understand is why is it assumed that Fields has tremendous power and Sweeney has none? Fields has 5 more homers than Sweeney in about 40 more plate appearances. Maybe because this is the first year that Sweeney has shown any power at all and he's playing in a park where Willie Harris regularly homered. That could have something to do with it. Personally speaking, I'm not very concerned with Sweeney's power (or lack thereof) at this point. If he can hit for average, get on base, run the bases well and play good defense, that's fine by me. We've got enough players who hit the ball out of the park.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) So, considering we get someone to take on Garcia's contract, we'd have $6 million there, and I doubt Crede gets a raise of that much in one offseason. Crede is making 2.6 mil this year, I'd say based on his numbers this year he'll get 5.5 million easily next season if he went to arbitration with the Sox. And in all likelihood it could be more.

Switching Fields
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Well, trading any one of our starters would free up about $10 million, depending on whether or not the other team takes on the whole contract. I'm not sure exactly how much Crawford makes, and I know Crede won't be getting a ridiculous amount of money. So, I doubt the payroll would have to increase that much. Here's Crawford's deal: Set to make 4 Mil in 2007 5.25 Mil in 2008 Team Option for 2009 worth 8.25 Mil with a 2.5 million buyout

Playoff Chances
Pretty cool little chart they have going on here, updated daily: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php Has us at 12% to win the division, 45% for the Wild Card and 57% chance overall to get to the postseason.

Just listen to my advice, it's the best in the thread so far.

Switching Fields
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) I think their FO is a little more trade-friendly than they were last year with that douchebag GM they had. Sure, it's going to be a steep price, but it'd be for a premier LF and leadoff hitter in baseball who's only getting better. It'd take at least one of our best prospects, but hopefully we'd get some good prospects in return for Freddy. I'd rather have the s***ty offense of Uribe than the s***ty defense of Lugo. The Angels tried to get Crawford this year and were told that they'd need to give up Ervin Santana and Brandon Wood. We'd have to give up more than one prospect. It'd probably cost 2 of our best prospects plus B-Mac.

Denorfia is not worth Freddy Garcia. Not even close.

Root for Boston or Detroit?
I'd never root for Boston under any circumstance. I dispise them more than anything in sports.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) I just checked and we are supposed to get the Sox-Tigers as well. Good stuff. I was going to be pissed if I had to miss Friday and Saturday's game. I hate WCIU and Fox games.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) So KOKI, FOX23 out of Tulsa....ya know, the tulsa that sits directly in the middle of the country, has decided that "regional coverage" means Yankees vs. Angels instead of, say, a couple midwest teams like Chicago and Detriot. Seems completely logical to me. Luckily here in Louisville we are getting the Sox. Usually we get the Yankees, Reds, Red Sox, Cardinals or Cubs above all else.

Switching Fields
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) It's an odd scenario. Do you want a guy in LF next year that will hit .260ish with lots of k's/walks, 20+ homers, 15 SBs, big-time RBI potential, but possibly a few errors in left or a guy who will hit .300, walk little, strike out little, play great D, steal 10 bases and have 10-14 HRs? It's an interesting decision that will have to be made. I don't think Sweeney would hit 10-14 at the MLB level. He does project as a solid AVG guy who will hit a lot of doubles though. His highest HR totals have come this year (11) at Charlotte and that's a big time hitters park. It's a nice problem for us to have though with both of these guys coming along nicely. It also puts the heat on BA to step it up offensively going into next year with a guy like Sweeney waiting in the wings who is capable of playing CF. I am cautiously optimistic the Sox will lock up Crede, but with Boras you just never know. Its nice to know we have a possible stud in Fields that will be able to play 3B but hopefully also learn the OF.

WCIU is a joke. I've had Extra Innings for a long time now and its frustrating that there are 20-30 games each year you cannot see. (now granted some of them are shown on the opposing team's feed, but last night's wasn't on at all.) Hopefully this is resolved before next season as has been mentioned in this thread. Luckily I got to listen to the game on XM.

Freddy Bracing for Exit
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) I'd be happy with a legitimate bullpen arm and starting pitcher prospect. I'd be happy if we got the first thing you mention and estatic if some team was dumb enough to throw in a legit SP prospect in the deal.

Yankees Series: Has it Been a Confidence Builder?
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) not quitting is admirable. rather see this team put the hammer down and punish some good teams on occasion. They've got the best record in baseball against teams with an above .500 record if I saw the stat correctly on ESPN last night.

Freddy Bracing for Exit
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Huh? Freddy is not going anywhere this season. He was replying to my call to remove Garcia from the rotation and replace him with McCarthy.

Who, in your opinion is...
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) I forgot all about that, he's in MVP talk this year Jeter would be the 5th best player in our everyday lineup this year, yet is in MVP talks. Flat out awesome. 5th best? How do you figure? In fact I would make an argument that if we had a guy like him at the top of our lineup who can steal a base when he needs to and hit for a higher average than anyone else on our roster (.346) would be pretty damn valuable. I mean are you basing this all on HRs and RBI because I believe his average and runs scored (sans Thome) would be just as good if not better than anyone on our roster. His OBP would also rank first, by the way.

Who, in your opinion is...
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) "Respectable" and "Consistently solid" do not equate with being one of the top players in baseball, having his name up in MVP talk, or having the highest salary of any player who's being paid entirely by 1 team in all of baseball. Not to mention his defense. Let me rephrase this, a .316 career average is great. In fact, I can't think of any current Sox player who has a career average near that. It's even higher than Frank's average and he's considered one of the best hitters of the 90's. Also I'm hearing a lot about how bad his defense is, but what stats back that up? Whenever I've watched him he's always made the plays when he's needed to. Teams don't win 4 world titles with mediocre defense at shortstop. He's easily a hall of famer even if he retired today.

Freddy Bracing for Exit
Garcia basically just said he's quit on the team. I've got a better solution for him. Take him out of the rotation and go with someone who gives us a chance to win consistently and let him rot out in the pen. You can't be saying stuff like that during the season. Might be the dumbest thing I've heard all year.

Who, in your opinion is...
Calling Jeter overrated is ignorant. He has 4 rings and he's posted consistently solid numbers throughout his career. I'd say a .316 career batting average is awfully good. His OPS for his career is also in the mid .800's which for a SS is respectable. How is he overrated?
