QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) Stewart is not the prospect he once was. Old for AA with a bad WHIP and is at best a back of the rotation guy. He was their #5 prospect coming into the season. He still projects as a #3-4 starter. Salary relief, a solid 7th inning guy and someone who immediately enters our top 3 prospects for Edwin Jackson, who was going to walk anyways? We actually did not do too badly here. And as an added bonus, the loss of Teahen's roster spot has allowed us to call up and now start De Aza. -
Seemed like a good guy, pitched well his time here - wish him the best.

Very, very important for De Aza to have a good game today. He does that and with any luck we won't have to deal with watching Rios suck 5 days a week -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Edwin Jackson has been the Sox's 2nd best pitcher this season? At best he's been the team's 3rd best starter. I believe he has the highest WAR -

Keep in mind, if the Jays flip him to St Louis for Rasmus, they also have much nicer pieces down on the farm they can send along with him. Just because they are able to get Rasmus out of Jackson, does not mean we necessarily could have as well -
De Aza supposedly getting the start in CF. Beats the hell out of Rios that's for sure

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) I was somewhat surprised to read that only 57 undrafted free agents made the opening day roster last year in the NFL. We always hear about these hidden gems that fell through the cracks and while that is true for a handful or so, most will be nothing more than practice players filling in for a roster spot here and there. NFL.com had an analyst do a top 20 list of UFA's. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d820e...h-sudden-impact Chiefs grabbed Brandon Bair, the number 10 on that list. Read a little about him and like that signing a lot based on their 3-4 system. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) If that happened to your team, wouldn't you just keep your mouth shut about it? The ump has to know he made a mistake already. Absolutely not. He makes a close check swing call today and you don't think there are gonna be some calls from the Pirates dugout?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:17 AM) I saw the reactions on twitter and I was looking forward to seeing the play. Then I saw it on ESPN and I was even shocked it was THAT bad. I'm still in awe. Like, I knew something awful was coming, and I was still surprised. The worst call I have ever seen in all of professional sports. Some stills: http://yfrog.com/khss0caj http://i.imgur.com/JiMyv.jpg Yeah I saw it this morning and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Just atrocious. He's got the 3B assignment in the game today. Think he'll be hearing anything from the Pirates bench over there?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:13 AM) This is so incredibly hypocritical it boggles my mind. You obviously dislike KW for some reason. Just say it. Because there's no sensible reason for you to be saying any of this. You can't pretend you know so much as a fan and then turn around and say, "Well, I'm not a GM!" "Boy, I really liked what KW did with this team. Should be a hell of a ballclub." "Oh wait, the guys are underachieving and a lot of them are having the worst years of their careers. KW sucks!" -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Is the app good from year to year, or do you have to pay again? It's called At Bat '11 so i'm guessing I'll need a new one next year. But for someone like myself who always pays for MLB.tv, paying an additional $10 to be able to watch and listen to any game I want for an entire season on my cell phone is a no brainer.
-
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Does anyone know of an app for the Droid that I can listen to the game? I have an mlb.tv account but I don't want to spend the additional $10 to be able to use that on my phone (I don't really need the video, just the radio feed as I want it for when I'm driving). Any input? Just buy the app. It's $10. It's one million percent worth it.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) Not at the expense of a top prospect. You trade elite prospects for Cliff Lee's and CC Sabathia's. Not Edwin Jackson. If you're the Yankees would you trade Austin Romine for him then? Knowing you still have Montero and Sanchez down there? Supply and demand dictates that players don't always get equal value in return, in either direction.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) I think you missed my point. I know they don't give a s*** about just making the playoffs. They're already in the playoffs. Now it's about matching up with the Red Sox and Rangers. If you're Cashman, do you feel Edwin Jackson, the same guy that's been traded four times in 5-6 years or whatever, the same guy who's really only put together one great half of consistent pitching in his career, gives you a better chance against two powerhouse offenses? And if that's worth a top prospect. I'm not saying they wouldn't have any interest. But some of the names being thrown around here. Please. Discounting April, he's actually been really, really solid this year. Burnett couldn't handle it last year and I honestly wouldn't count on anything from Hughes at the moment. Colon and Garcia have been great, but counting on them for three more months is risky. It's undeniable Edwin has the talent. Basically the Yankees would be gambling on him harnessing it for another couple months, which he has done before. It'd be a risk, but for a team like NY, they've taken risks in the past and anything other than a WS is a failure for them most years. And if any team can afford to lose a top prospect, it's them, since they have so much capital to spend on free agent acquisitions. I really think Edwin would wind up the #2-3 starter for them come playoff time. And if Jackson truly becomes the best pitcher available on July 31st, they're gonna have to think about it

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) I thought it was nuts to even suggest. But honestly, if you're the Mariners, do you at least consider trading Felix? That organization is in complete shambles right now. Their lineup rivals any from the dead ball era. Not much of a system to speak of. Ackley/Pineda appear to be legitimate building blocks. But they're so far away right now that Felix could possibly mean more to you in a trade than he does pitching for you every fifth day with no realistic chance of competing. What team wouldn't empty out their farm for him? I believe he's signed through 2015 at a relative bargain. Even if they don't plan on competing until 2013/2014 that would still give them 2-3 years with him on their team. He's just so good already that I don't know if you can do that. Even if the Yankees offered Banuelos, Betances and Nova, can you really make the trade? Hernandez is barely older than them as is and at the end of teh day they are all still question marks. Even their catching trio have their questions. As good as the Yankee prospects are, none are considered close to sure things I don't think. Just a really hard deal to make if you're Seattle. You'd have to get an absolute king's ransom (no pun intended) to deal him

Complete White Sox draft and signings list
