QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) So what is left for the Yankees to match up with the sox? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/07/yank...medium=facebook So ask for Sanchez

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) Chicago to the east coast is a pretty boring trip... ugh. Nothing on those toll roads thru Indiana and Ohio, you don't go through any actual cities, nothing to see. Well, you do go through Cleveland. And there's a nice casino in Erie. Guess it depends where on the east coast you're going to.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 01:04 AM) One of the best Curb;s ever tonight! Completely hysterical. Agreed one of their better episodes of the series.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Yup. In hindsight, the rainout sucks cause I was not impressed by the Tribe's play against us. A four-game series the third week of September? In Cleveland? Wow. That series could mean a ton for both of the teams, one of the teams or none of the teams. I wonder which scenario will be true? Way to really step out on a limb there

I'll say it - I wouldn't vote for him on his first ballot. If Joe DiMaggio, Jimmy Foxx and Roberto Alomar aren't first ballot Hall of Famers then neither is Jeter.

Sox "uncharacteristically quiet" on trade front

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) You're not taking into account salary relief. We really have no idea where the Sox stand on that. They say they are broke, they bring in guys making 8 figures. They say the checks will clear, maybe they make salary dumps. They'd save 2.5M...pretty minimal -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) Dexter is such an awful show. Worst post ever.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) With him looking to hit the market I think your going to get what you get even if there is a lack of pitching. As far as Carlos I think the only way you will see Viciedo soon is if he is traded. Jackson will be a type B free agent so the prospect return would have to be better than the draft pick we'd receive. -

QUOTE (bulokis @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) I will be driving to New Jersey next week and need some tips if anyone here has done it. I enjoy driving and like to stop in places to see other states and see what they have. Any suggestions on must see places that is along the drive? Thanks in advance. I live in NY so I've done this trip a couple times. Not much to see in northern Indiana or Ohio, although stopping in South Bend to see Notre Dame is a nice experience. You're probably gonna go through the middle of PA, where there's not much. If you're going to southern Jersey you'll be close to Philly and not far from Gettysburg if you'd like to stop there. It's going to be a fairly boring trip.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) Players still haven't voted on the deal nothing official yet. Owners approved it 31-0, Sqwert's favorite owner abstained as I guess he usually does for some reason Because Al Davis is a giant douche. I hate everything about the Raiders -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) Who has the minor league contacts to know when a player is coming up? I heard a rumor that this may actually be happening. Coming from you, I just got really excited -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Methinks Charlotte numbers are bloated. Hell, T-Flow was rocking a .390 obp down there. We shall see, though, as a lot of sticks down there are performing. His numbers on the road are just as good.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) To be fair, Ozzie Guillen gets national pub and finds his way to Sportscenter more than any other manager in the game, and he's not affiliated with the Red Sox or Yankees. Clearly, anyone who has followed Oz the last 8 years knows the dude is at least a few levels more foul-mouthed and ridiculous than any other manager in the game. He's just one person, talking about our staff as a whole is different, which is what I was getting at. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) His point was that it's time to make some changes. Adam Dunn boasted he never picks up a bat in the off-season. That's fine and dandy until you start setting records for awfulness. Also, I don't think you realize how strong the word "ignorant" is, or if you do, that was uncalled for... his statement had plenty of merit based in fact. First of all, ignorant and naive I don't view as inherently negative terms. It's just most people don't actually understand what they mean (not saying you don't) He said "Hopefully next winter he will actually prepare for the season" or something like that. What did he do differently? By all accounts nothing, he did the same thing he always has. And just because he doesnt pick up a bat, doesn't mean he doesnt prepare or train. I hate people using those kind of hindsight jabs and reasons for player's struggles when it is foolish to do so. If he had picked a bat this off-season and was going through problems you know people would be all over him changing his routine (or blaming Walker for making him) etc... Look at it this way in a simple form We can assume that Event A has led to Event B for 7 or 8 years since that is a large sample size. Event A occurred again this year and right now we are seeing Event C. To now assume that Event A is the cause of Event C is presumptuous at best, ignorant at worst. I don't believe that his off-season workout has much significance in this. You don't just forget how to hit a baseball. One of my degrees is in statistical analysis, and to make a claim that Event A now leads to Event C is kind of ignorant. Even without getting all 'mathy' I find it ridiculous to think what he did or did not do in January is the cause of this. His spring wasn't great but it was far from disastrous. Something is wrong with him and I think at this point there has to be something hugely mental about it. This was just one example, but this board just loves the hindsight blame game and it's incredibly annoying.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) Does management of any other team in baseball get away with being jerks as much as the Sox? I swear, these guys get away with, to put it lightly, being less than civil much more than any other organization I've ever heard about. Our manager routinely either flat-out calls people morons, often the fans, or very strongly hints at it and acts as though he's unquestionable. Our pitching coach cannot take even the slightest amount of criticism, and our GM is the same way, plus he also acts like he could never be wrong. To be fair, how often do you listen to or check out other team's daily/routine media relations? -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) MLPA would never let Dunn just walk away from his contract. They don't have a choice in the matter

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) its not an ingorant statement, if im stating a known fact about his offseason preparations. sorry bud! If it worked before for the NL- awesome. Take this as a learning experience and actually work out and train in the offseason this year. Yes, bud, blaming his struggles on an off-season workout routine that has worked for him every other single year of his uncannily consistent career is ignorant if you think this is some new thing he's trying out and bragging about because he doesnt give a s*** or whatever. If that's not the case, and you're blaming his struggles on that anyways, it still fails to make sense seeing as how it has always worked for him before. And not just one or two times, but every single year of his career. I'm gonna say that years upon years of results would (should) weigh more and be taken into consideration. And he said he doesn't swing a bat, he never said he doesn't work out or train his body. It's no secret he's having an historically pitiful season, but I highly doubt this has anything to do with what he was and was not doing back in January.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) And this is why Coop will not be offered the manager position if it becomes opened. He can't handle the media well at all. That's fine to me. Just leave him where he's at, he actually does his job well. -
Paraguay advanced past Venezuela in PKs. Apparently there was some sort of altercation with punches being thrown afterwards and security had to get involved. Don't know any of the details or what set it off though

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Save the fact that Adam Dunn has stated he doesn't pick up a baseball bat in the offseason. There's some merit there... I'd reckon picking up a baseball bat might assist in his not sucking so much. But he's done it his whole career and has arguably been the most consistent player in baseball for the past 7 or so years. It's not like he just decided to not give a s*** this off-season, he just continued to do what he always has, which has always worked. I've seen people mention that a bunch of times now and it's just not a good reason.
