QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) I also hear he sucks at sliding, unlike Juan Pierre. But what is his Grinder %?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) He has eight homers and 40 ribbies in 200 at bats. His OPS is north of 900

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) With the Sox, you never take any game for granted. It's not like Manny is assured of pulling a Rios and going 4-for-5 tonight. His stats this year, in fact, suck. Well that's not true, at all.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) If Manny doesnt play, I will overreact (in some people's opinion) and claim that Ozzie needs to go. IMO, its obvious that Manny not playing today is Ozzie saying "f*** you" to KW. Manny was KW's idea, and either the players didnt want Manny, and/or Ozzie didnt because there is no reason, not with the timing of this claim, that Manny should not be in this lineup. Well that's pretty ridiculous. I love the outrage assuming Ozzie is just choosing not to play Manny here. It's comical.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) It would mean he was not a part of the roster and thus make him unavailable, rendering that the worst idea of all-time! Because we have players on the DL there are ways around that rule. Remember the K-Rod situation years ago?

QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) The office I work out of is a client's call center. They handle car accidents and whatnot. The lady across from me calls 2010 models "Oh-ten's", (IE: so you hit an Oh-Ten Camry? )it drives me CRAZY. I work in finance and I hear people say "oh-ten", "oh-eleven", "oh-twelve" etc all the time. It doesnt bother me, I just think it sounds odd. And being that it is clearly wrong, it makes the person saying it seem somewhat ignorant.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) It's Yankee fans. I expect nothing more from them. This. The Yankee dugout was classy about it, I noticed. Frank got a pretty good applause from them which was nice to see. Also, loved that Hawk paused after announcing Gaimbi's name to allow the crowd to properly boo haha

I'm on my phone right now so I can't read through this whole thing and it seems the conversation has nothing to do with the topic anymore. So could someone just summarize what the latest is here for me? Thanks

QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) You better lose yourself in the music the moment you own it...never let it go! Kenny only gets one shot! This opportunity only comes once in a lifetime. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Final round of Champions League qualifying underway today. BSC Young Boys is killing Spurs right now. 3-1 at half, it was 3-0 before a half hour. I always love rooting against the English teams in the Champs League, but it would be extra hilarious for Spurs to not even make the group phase. Pavlyuchenko scored a huge goal for Tottenham late to make it a 3-2 finish. Gives them a much easier shot in the second leg -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Right now, Viciedo is not making a strong case for keeping him up. He needs to go down for a few weeks and play every day and then come back up on September 1st. Love what i've seen out of him all things considered, and am still excited about his potential, but the past week it's been made clear he isnt ready for every day major league duties.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) But this is a direct correlation, taking away citizenship. I'm not advocating taking anything away, it's just a matter of determining how it is given out. To me, those are two totally different concepts.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) And the counterpoint is, I never said that this would ultimately lead to another holocaust. I merely showed that people must be very careful when giving govt this type of power. Because in the past this power has been misused. So when you act like there is absolutely nothing bad that can ever happen from this, you need to remind people that Germany didnt start with gas chambers. They started by slowly eroding rights. Not to nitpick just a single thing from your post, but based on what you're saying then almost anything the government takes over or decides it will do or enact could have the same argument thrown against it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) lol Insightful as usual. Shocking. Yes, it all stems back to them not allowing them to be citizens based on the sole fact that they were born on French soil.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Yeah just as fair and logically as the guy who in 1930 Germany stated: "Why should we be letting the Jews own land and have property. They arent "citizens", why should they have the same rights as us!" I know that people will say that its not comparable, but in 1935 this is what was happening. In 1935 these were the exact same arguments for why Jews should be treated differently. It is not comparable because it just flat out isn't. Godwin's Law got invoked earlier than expected here. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) The creation of a permanent underclass of non-citizens with limited job or life prospects has been absolutely key to those events. Are you seriously trying to argue that as a main reason? GMAB. That's a stretch and you know it.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Link I don't think I really need citations for the riots in France or the development of Islamic Terrorism in London and how those events have been linked to groups excluded by those laws. Riiiight. Because THAT'S the reason for Islamic terrorism/extremism in certain parts of the Western World... edit: Regarding France, you may have a more valid point, but that can also be attributed to their imperial ways of the early-mid twentieth century, in particular Algeria, coming back to bite them in the ass. Also, they are trying to enact laws/reforms that seem to target specific groups, which can be argued has little do with the policy being discussed in this thread.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) It is enforced by 33 countries, including Mexico and Canada. Furthermore...I think right now, Western Europe is a great example of the societal problems that come up when you start extracting significant barriers to assimilation of immigrants and a strong argument in favor of retaining the status quo. It is enforced by a whole 2 "developed nations"* *As determined by the International Monetary Fund

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) I'd be OK with changing it to be that children born to people who are in the country illegally do not gain citizenship. Seems pretty fair to me. Fair and logical. I don't even know how that doesn't make sense. And for reference, since everyone always loves comparing us to our friends in Europe, jus soli is not observed by most European countries nor many other "western" nations.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 06:17 AM) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kamala-d-har...f_b_677090.html Lindsay Graham and Mitch McConnell want to look at eliminating the fourteenth amendment Wouldn't removing the fourteenth amendment technically make it so that anyone born in the US period is an illegal immigrant? First off, it said this: That doesn't mean the entire amendment. There are several clauses in the 14th amendment, not just the citizenship one. And secondly to the bolded, no it wouldn't. The clause was added to ensure that freed slaves and their children were guaranteed citizenship. Prior to this, if you were born to American parent(s) you were a citizen. And frankly, I'd have no problem with tweaking this a bit, because after everyone get's done complaining about it, the thought behind makes sense. It has definitely been exploited in ways this was not meant for in recent years.

Game Thread 8/10: MIN v CWS, 7:10pm
ChiSox_Sonix replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
To be fair, Kotsay has had a good 7 or 8 past games. I'd rather he not be on the team altogether (where is Mark Teahen? - he was supposed to be back for the homestand), but Quentin is struggling and Kotsay has had a good week. And we all know Oz loves the lefty bat breaking up the string of righties.
