  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) There are some things that can be decided on a state by state basis, others it just is not practical. Ask anyone who has travelled with guns, keeping up with each state's laws is a pain in the ass. Same with motorcycle helmets. The RV example was perfect. Crossing seven or eight states and being in compliance in all states must be a pain. Simple solution, then don't bring your gun(s) with you. If you still want to, do your research/homework and do what you gotta do to prepare for it. Certain countries require tourist visas, some don't let you in at all. Wouldn't it be a lot easier if there was just one set of guidelines to international travel? It must be a pain in the ass if you are going around the world.
  2. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Not just stoners. Yeah I 1 million percent support marijuana legalization (and then tax the s*** out of it) but I can possibly count on two hands the number of times I've smoked in my life.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) I'm all about concealed carry but this is flagrantly taking a s*** on states' rights. If, for a relatively extreme example, I choose to live in a state with liberal laws that include more gun control measures, why should Texas or Arizona be able to override my state's laws? Ding ding ding! I fully support the right to own rifles and handguns. Always will. I don't like the idea of carry/conceal permits but I can live with them. But, this really would have bothered me. I'm glad it was voted down. To my knowledge, everyone in Vermont who gets a handgun permit automatically get's a carry/conceal, Illinois doesnt even allow handguns (right?) and some states don't allow carry/conceals. Also, most states don't honor permits from others. And that's the way it should be, IMO. Each state should make their own rules and should not be told by the federal government what they should and should not have to do here.
  4. Last I heard he was in the instructional leagues. Apparently it was a pretty bad break. He's still young enough where he can come back from this.

  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Is it fiction, or non-fiction/conspiracy theory? Non-fiction/conspiracy theory. A lot of conjecture but also a lot that makes you think.
  7. Read "Pirates and the Lost Templar Fleet: The Secret Naval War Between the Knights Templar and the Vatican" by David Hatcher Childress, it's a good read easy to follow. He isn't a great writer and it's obvious (IMO he needs an editor) but the content is fascinating.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) There were a number of groups who were in the Americas before Columbus. Corte-Real landed in Nova Scotia in like 1481, the Irish priest whose name escapes me has a pretty believable story a few centuries before that, of course the Vikings are now thought to have gotten as far south as Massachussets in the 10th century or so, the Chinese have some good evidence they were there. And of course since the whole Bering Land Bridge thing is no longer a viable explanation for most Indian groups (other than the Eskimo/Aleut cultures), they came from somewhere else, with the best theory I have seen talking about Asian-spawned Pacific Islander cultures. Columbus really wasn't much of a first, at all. Saint Brendan, but he was before the Vikings. You may be thinking of Madoc, who was Welsh. But ya, i've written a couple papers on the subject for history classes when I was in college and there is so much evidence. It's just when you say it to people they think you're a nut.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Day game after a night game thing. Right, but he should be getting some more ABs at DH. The more at bats he gets in the minors the better at this point.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Lucas Harrell with 6 shutout innings so far. Charlotte leading big. Anderson not in the lineup. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...94&sid=t494 It's surprising that Flowers has been benched as often as he has been up there so far. Don't like that.
  11. All somewhat connected: Christopher Columbus had knowledge of the New World, at the least, and at the most possibly even maps. Henry Sinclair landed in present day Canada roughly 100 years before Columbus landed in Hispaniola The Templars were not eradicated in 1307 and the survivors fled to Portugal and Scotland.
  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) if i wanted to, i could drive while eating a big mac and not even take my eyes of the road. a more realistic comparison to texting while driving is to reading the newspaper while you drive around. i know what you are trying to say , that there's a lot of things which cause distractions while driving. thats true. i just think staring at a phone and typing in messages while your going 60 miles an hour is more dangerous than most. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,519856,00.html also according to AAA I just don't agree with cracking down on one thing and leaving so many essentially the same activities unregulated. Look, if i'm driving into NYC or it's a windy road or it's raining/snowing I don't take my eyes off the road for a second. But if I'm on the highway and not many people are around me or I'm on some side street I have no qualms responding to a text. I don't type out novels but if it's quick I'll do it and while I'm doing so I am not endangering anyone, including myself. I can see how at times it can be dangerous, but not moreso than countless other activities that are not being cracked down upon. But as for talking on a cellphone, I really don't see why people get so up in arms about that. You're watching the road afterall. It's no different than the mother yelling at her young children in the back seat, the woman late for work so doing her makeup in the mirror, the guy too proud to ask for directions trying to read a map and drive or anyone adjusting CD's in the stereo, fiddling with the GPS, searching through the iPod, trying to light a cigarette, etc...I rarely have a need to talk on the cell while driving, but it really bugs me that when I do I have to try and do so incognito and get all paranoid about getting pulled over for it. In my opinion, it is too regulated, especially since you can do pretty much anything else you'd like while driving, some of which IMO is much more dangerous.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) you could go that direction with 'driving while sleepy' 'driving while mad' 'driving after watching too much NASCAR'. major offenders, such as drunk drivers and idiot texting drivers need to get busted. Whats the difference between "idiot texting drivers" and drivers trying to eat their big mac and fries with a sprite and occasionally lighting up a cigarette?
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:18 PM) It means Brian Anderson doesn't want anything to do with the Sox and wants to be playing someplace else. Can't really blame him. He's made his own bed somewhat and has blown opportunities but he has gotten the shaft from this organization more than a few times now.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) I don't think Restovich can play CF, so its really Hopper or Cook. And Hopper looks like another Wise to me, or similar. And Cook is of course an unknown, though he has put up far better minor league numbers than either of the other two have. They're different players. Hopper has a .316 BA in almost 400 major league AB's and also has a career .300+ BA in AAA. He has virtually no power, but he has speed and gets on base. I'd rather have someone like that over Cook. We have enough guys who can hit the long ball. I dont want to see either of them this year, but if we had to I think Hopper would be our best bet for what this team needs.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) Wise? Anderson? What's the diff if Quentin, Podsednik, and Dye are playing everyday? Not really a big story here, in my opinion. Well having one of them around who can play gold glove caliber 'D' would be nice considering Q/Pods/Dye are pretty terrible defensively
  17. Terrible. There is absolutely no justification for taking Wise over BA.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) Texting or talking on a cell phone while driving should result in consequences equal to that of drunk driving. Only if eating, reading a map, changing a CD in the CD player, smoking, etc...while driving are treated the same way
  19. QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) Was this post necessary? Was that?
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) It needs to be made clear that Brandon Allen is NOT just a 1B/DH type. I, and anybody whose seen him play, know that he is a talented athlete. In debating the merit of the trade, please do not call him a "1B/DH" type. That's the thing that bothers me. When you can only play 1B or DH what else are you supposed to be called???
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) At least we got rid of that soulless bastard Swisher! Right? Right? Right? Also, I really like what I’m seeing from Jared Mitchell. So we're still on this. Still. Wow....
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) I had an incredible history prof in college who taught some of the most interesting classes. He was actually versed in Russian, and taught classes on that and SE Asia. The guy knew his stuff so well he edited college textbooks. It was one of the most incredible courses I ever took. I had a teacher who was like that. Very funny and knew a ton. She called herself a "medeval sexologist" because her doctoral thesis was on that subject. She knew everything about the middle ages. She could actually speak and write Anglo-Saxon which I thought was very cool. She was going to teach it as a class but not enough people signed up, which was upsetting b/c I was gonna take it as a pass/fail just for fun my last year. I had her for several classes. She made classes interesting. I still remember a lot of random facts she passed along to us, such as in Viking society wives could petition for divorce for three reasons and only these reasons: Caught husband with another woman in the house and in their bed; impotence; bad breath. The last one always makes me laugh.
  23. You're a liar Earl! You're a liar!
  24. Ok so earlier this week one of my friends proposed an idea to go to South Bend for a ND game Labor Day weekend (i have a few friends who are big ND fans). Being as I've never been out that way I was able to convince everyone to agree to go into Chicago the next day and go to the White Sox game (to my amazement). So I'm pumped as it's the first time I'll be there. Been to a bnuch of Sox games on the East coast but this'll be first time in Chicago. So anyways, I have a bunch of questions and I could probably find a bunch online but figured this was easier and probably better. So any help would be greatly appreciated. It's still 6-7 weeks away but we're going to do some planning/booking soon. So here goes: - We plan on driving from NY to Michigan City on that friday (stopping in Cleveland on the way)...that's where we're going to stay and come back to NY on Monday. Anyone from that area have recommendations on where to stay? I know there's a couple casinos out there but I'm sure there are better places to stay. Also, we're all early-mid 20's, where would be a fun place to go out Fri/Sat night? I'm hearing the Casino in New Buffalo is very nice. - For the ND game on Saturday. When do people usually start tailgating? Is there an easy way to get there from Mich City? Train/Amtrak/Bus or should we drive? Like is the traffic gonna be ridiculously nuts? - On Sunday when we go to Chicago we were gonna take the train in from Mich City. Is there an easy way to get to the Cell that way. Amtrak runs out there, can we take that in? And for a 3 o'clock game when should we leave? And does the train run back out there afterwards? - If we have a group (8-10) is there a way to get a group rate for tickets and where (section) does everyone recommend we get tickets in? Also, what are the good places to grab a drink/food before and after the game. I know it's a ways away still but we will probably be buying the ND tickets, Sox tickets and hotel rooms within the next couple of weeks. Everything else I could ask again as we get closer to going. Also, are the time zones in those places all the same, because I know there are some oddities out there concerning them. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I'd love to spend more than a day in Chicago but I'll settle for this. Thanks again.
  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Believes if you collect welfare and do not have a physical disability, you should be forced to do community service. +1 Believes abortion should be banned in the constitution... it's murder. Should be a state's rights issue Believes in a single payer universal healthcare system... but I dont think it's very feasible to implement. Believes marijuana should be legalized, but taxed the hell out of. Extreme agreement and I basically have never smoked. Same should apply to prostitution. Believes in a "pre-egyptian" advanced society + eleventy million Believes in a maximum wag... but set it high. Believes DUI laws should be WAY tougher. Mandatory jail time. Disagree. I think they are fine as is Believes the DH should be required in both leagues... unless you choose to opt out of it for a game. Agreed but it will never happen IMO Believes that affirmative action was once positive, but is now anti-productive. Couldn't agree more Believes Jessie Jackson is a hindrance to the cause of African Americas... white people dont respect/listen to him. Believes the Electoral College should be disbanded and all presidents are elected by straight popular vote. Believes it would be good to have the loser of the presidential election be the VP. Believes we need to completely pull out of the middle east and let them fend for themselves... Israel included. Strong disagreement, we need Israel Believes in "America first" where all foreign goods (minus maybe oil) should have excessively high tariffs and most products are made in America. Believe the 2nd Amendment will never be properly implemented because the original intent was lost in the constant revisions made to the amendment before its final passage.
